Amitabh Bachchan’s Film With Subhash Ghai Was Shelved After A Showdown & Then Boney Kapoor Pitched Ram Lakhan (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Old-age Bollywood is an era where a lot happened and was never revealed. Most of the stories were slid under covers, and many of them were shared and remembered in memories but weren’t published ever. One such story happened on one of the elaborate sets of Subhash Ghai’s film that starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead.
The angry young man was the muse for the showman of the industry, and they were working on a film titled Devaa. The shoot began in 1987. The film also starred Raaj Kumar, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Shammi Kapoor, and Ila Arun, and the music was given by Laxmikant Pyarelal. However, the film was eventually shelved. Guess why? Because of Big B, cheating Ghai and their regular ego-clashes.

Anil Kapoor’s Fighting Spirit: On Four Decades of Film, the ‘Slumdog’ Effect, and One Heck of a Year
Anil Kapoor still gets meetings he can trace back to “Slumdog Millionaire.”
Chatting with IndieWire shortly after the premiere of Viacom18’s “Fighter,” the Indian actor is one of the rare global stars to enjoy “crossover success” — a buzzy term that, these days, seems to mean less crossing over and more crossing back-and-forth. Indian film stars, once compelled to journey West to Hollywood, now enjoy rich storytelling opportunities at home that also exist abroad. Between “Fighter,” “Animal,” a remake of “The Night Manager,” and daughter Rhea’s TIFF premiere, Kapoor’s last 12 months demonstrate the diversity of projects available for Indian actors today — though he still gets the most worldwide acknowledgement for “Slumdog.”
“I get really surprised sometimes at the kind of people who still know me, still remember me, and want to work with me. It’s still continuing,” Kapoor told IndieWire. “As a matter of fact, I insist...

Actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja will be seen in "The Zoya Factor" soon. She feels she does her best while acting in comedy films.
"I think I like to skip genres with every film so, my last few films have been 'Veere Di Wedding, 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga', 'Padman', 'Sanju', 'Khoobsurat' and 'Neerja'. In a career spanning three decades, Gulshan Grover has played the villain many times – but the film that earned him his nickname of “Badman”, and which set the tone for much of his Bollywood career, was that of villain Kesariya Vilayati in Subhash Ghai’s 1989 film Ram Lakhan. As traditional villain roles have become rarer in Bollywood (with heroes taking on roles with more shades of grey), Grover has found his way to working in other industries (in the U.S. and Canada), as well as appearing in films that find their way to the festival circuit, such as Soumik Sen’s Badman.
Director Sen (Gulaab Gang) allows the talented actor to step into a fictionalized version of himself – Gulshan Grover the Badman who longs to make a change in his career, to relaunch himself as a hero. The film is, quite frankly, a hoot, sending up a number of Bollywood tropes. This fictional Gulshan Grover has two hapless sons, Suresh (working as an assistant to director/choreographer Farah Khan and writing his own screenplay) and Gaurav (radio show host always looking for money to invest in questionable business schemes).
The film opens with the fictional Gulshan Grover celebrating his birthday – one of his birthday gifts is to be handed the reins of the Bollywood Villains Association by his friend and fellow villain Ranjeeth.
After suffering a sudden heart attack at his birthday party, and faced with his own mortality as well as the incompetence of his sons, Grover decides to liquidate his assets and set up a film fund which he will put at the disposal of his sons if – and only if – they work with him on a film launching a new hero: Gulshan Grover – “Gg” — himself, in a venture entitled, appropriately “Goodman”.
The film sends up contemporary Bollywood film and social media culture, from a nurse who asks to take a selfie with the star in his hospital bed, to the doctor treating him who brings his son to see his patient, to director/choreographer Farah Khan announcing Grover’s death on Twitter. It’s also a biting satire on the current state of filmmaking in Bollywood, where star kids are launched and where heroes in their forties play college students and woo women young enough to be their daughters, where women in their thirties are resigned to playing mothers to men hardly older than themselves, a world in which social media experts are hired in order to make films trend, where images are “refurbished” and hashtags rule.
The film follows Gg’s quest to put together the film that will launch this new, updated, 21st century version of himself, from the search for a director, a heroine, and, most importantly, for the actor who will agree to become the villain. The endless string of cameos are worth the price of admission alone; the turn by Chunkey Pandey, who agrees to become the film’s villain – hysterically, his costumes always match the furniture on which he’s sitting — is delicious.
But at the centre of it all is Gulshan Grover himself, anchoring everything that happens around him, by turns frustrated at the roadblocks he runs up against (veteran actor Rishi Kapoor advises him to forget about becoming a hero and focus on the underserved 90 to 100 year old man slot), frustrated at the stupidity and incompetence of his sons, accused of “corruption” by those in the Villains’ Assocation (who see both his desire to become a hero, and his willingness to cast Chunkey Pandey as his villain as a sell-out) and occasionally baffled by the events that go on around him as he works to create something new out of his life and career. “Badman” defined much of Gulshan Grover’s career, but Badman allows us to remember that he’s a fine actor with a gift for comedy, in a film that guarantees you will “Lol”.

When Rohit Shetty announced the remake of the 1989 cult film Ram Lakhan, to be produced by Dharma Productions, what followed was a series of speculations about the casting. With the names of several A-listers being tossed around, we believe that the makers may have found their perfect Ram and his brother Lakhan for the remake.
From what we hear, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are the current contenders for the role and the two will soon be signed for the same. In the original Subhash Ghai blockbuster, Ram, the sincere and honest cop was played by Jackie Shroff and the enthusiastic grey-shaded role of Lakhan was played by Anil Kapoor. In the upcoming remake it is being that Shahid Kapoor will play the elder brother Ram whilst Ranveer will be seen as the younger Lakhan. An official announcement on the same is being awaited.

You just know if over-the-top ridiculous movies are your kind of thing. If you’re not one of those people, you’ll find justification for your dislike in bits of Welcome Back that just try too hard. But if you are a lover of rapid-fire absurdities, you’ll mostly giggle and chuckle as the plot becomes increasingly convoluted.
Overall, Welcome Back is exactly the kind of ridiculous, zingy stuff you expect from writer-director Anees Bazmee, with the right amount of nods to other films (Bunty Aur Babli, Ram Lakhan and Pk, to name a few), insults (personal favorite “moochwala bean bag”) and physical gags. But the humor isn’t always as smoothly sustained as in the original Welcome, and on occasions, perhaps not unexpectedly, the movie tries reaching too far and goes well past the gleeful “did they really go there?” disbelief into “why did they go there?” disbelief. Ever since producer Karan Johar announced that he is remaking Subhash Ghai’s 1989 superhit film “Ram Lakhan” that starred Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit and Dimple Kapadia, there has been lot of excitement over the film’s casting. Many actor’s name also did the round in the middle time but no one has been finalized for the remake, to be directed by Rohit Shetty.
However when Jackie and Anil who played Ram and Lakhan respectively in the original, asked about who would be their choice to reprise their characters in the remake, they mentioned Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra’s name.
Anil who was recently seen in Zoya Akhtar’s “Dil Dhadakne Do”, recently said in an interview, “I feel who is best for the film commercially, they should cast him. But If I was a producer, I would cast Ranveer as Lakhan. Ram would be Sidharth Malhotra because of the intensity.

Out of all the various relationships (zillion in case you are an Indian including the door ke ristedaar) we have, the most special bond we share is with our siblings. They are our first best friend, first enemy and first love too (don't get us wrong). If it wouldn't have been for them, even we don't know how we could have survived in our crazy families. You fight, beat the sh*t out of each other, but at the end of the day, you are always there for each other. You treat them the way you want, but if somebody else misbehaves with your brother/sister, they will be in for big trouble. Let's admit it, you sometimes hate them to the core, but there is no way you can survive without them. Even in Bollywood movies, we have seen the crazily adorable relationship of the siblings. Here are 11 reasons...

Two of Ghai's blockbusters Hero and Ram Lakhan have been purchased to be remade by Salman Khan and Karan Johar, respectively. While welcoming the move by eminent filmmakers to revamp his successful films, Ghai says, "I respect Sanjay Leela Bhansali as a unique filmmaker who has also proved himself as an independent producer with Rowdy Rathore and Mary Kom. Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai had made inroads in the music industry way back when he launched his film Kisna's music under his banner Mukta Music. Apparently, Ghai, who is known for his film's music, is all set to re- launch his music label with his next directorial venture Kaanchi.
Mukta Music after successfully backing the music distribution of films like Kisna, Jogger's Park and Iqbal went silent and is now geared up to create a stir in the music market again. "My film's music has always been a hit. Our films - Karz, Hero, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Taal and Yaadein had very successful music. People told me long ago, when I first got into production, that I should launch a music arm for my company. But my focus was different then," said Ghai.
He further added, "The music industry has evolved a great deal since the '70s and '80s.

Music from Mukta films i.e Karz, Hero, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Taal and Yaadein has always topped the charts. Mukta Music was launched in partnership with Sony music for kisna after Ghai realized that music was a valuable aspect of the film and it had to be exploited to the fullest.
But Kisna didn’t do as expected and Ghai didn’t want to take risk on his next hence when T-series offered a good price for his next big budget film Yuvvraj he was happy to de-risk it.
Ghai plans to relaunch the label with his maiden venture Kaanchi which is a big musical thriller by going all out by ramping up the distribution, exhibition and production business a great deal. In Anees Bazmee's Welcome Back, Anil Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia would be seen reprising their famous 'Tera Saath Hai Kitna Pyara' tumble-in-the-hay song from Feroz Khan's Jaanbaaz. Both Anees and his producer Firoz Nadiadwala are huge Fk fans. In fact, Welcome even starred Feroz Khan. While the sequel now will have Naseeruddin Shah taking over the role. They were the quintessential screen scorchers of the 1970s and 80s. Dimple Kapadia's love-making sequence with a bare-chested Anil Kapoor in Feroz Khan's Jaanbaaz had set the screen on fire. It had also famously prompted Dimple to call Anil "a barber's nightmare." Remind him of this, and Anil, who is now shooting with Dimple again says, "Oh God! That was like ages ago. Dimple and I last worked together in Ram Lakhan, though in that film she was opposite Jackie Shroff. She is a fantastic person and such a good actress.

Mumbai, Oct 23: Actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik, known for his comic timing, plays a negative character in "Lakshmi" and confesses he was sceptical about playing the 'monstrous' role.
"I was very scared because to play a totally negative character which is not likeable is tough," said Kaushik, who is also the co-producer of "Lakshmi", which is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor.
"But this is what Nagesh wanted to do. In the beginning of the film you will see that man is quiet normal and lovable, but he turns out to be a monster," the actor known for his award winning funny roles in "Ram Lakhan" and "Saajan Chale Sasural", said.

Subhash Ghai has a tradition of building memorable characters on screen, from Ajit in Kalicharan to Anupam Kher in Karma to Simi Garewal in Karz. This stems from one of the core beliefs of Subhash Ghai, which is every character is important and no role is big or small.
One of the main reasons for the success of the characters in Subhash Ghai films is the excellent casting. “Saara shehar mujhe Lion ke naam se jaanta hai” is a line that one cannot imagine coming anyone else but Ajit . “Is thappad ki goonj suni tumne?” has been immortalized by Anupam Kher and has been repeated every time there has been a slap. Gulshan Grover who was an upcoming actor saw his career’s breakthrough performance as Kesariya Vilayati in Ram Lakhan and came to be known as the “Bad Man” in Bollywood after his lines from the film.
