The most famous Pennywise actor, Bill Skarsgård, has already made his name as a brilliant horror performer while starring not only in the two It movies, but also in the chilling series Hemlock Grove (2013–2015) and Castle Rock (2018–2019).
Continuing his major career trend, he also took part in a smaller-scale project, which didn’t suffer from its modest budget at all. On the contrary, it received lots of hype and even now, two years after its release, it is holding the second place in Netflix’s chart.
The movie’s plot revolves around the haunted house, and this trope is obviously used in an enormous number of horrors. However, here the monster, typically hiding in the basement, doesn’t turn out to be the main evil, damaging the characters the most.

There is always a new video game enthusiast emerging from Hollywood that people don’t know about. In this case, it is Tim Curry, the legendary actor who gave life to the first version of Pennywise, the famous evil clown from Stephen King’s novels.
In an interview with PC Format back in the 1990s, the actor revealed that he was a fan of the Game Boy and that he really used to play between takes while he was waiting for his next scene. He even told the interviewer that he suffered a robbery on set and that his console went missing, which made him really mad.

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however, they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized on Ranker.

The source of many children’s nightmares, the original Pennywise was absolutely amazing and Tim Curry’s performance is still so memorable. Undoubtedly one of the best TV villains of all time, we’d put him even higher on the list.

The Joker is considered by many to be the greatest villain with respect to not only Batman, but all of DC, or even the superhero industry. Some even go to the length of calling him the most iconic villain in all of fiction. He is a villain so legendary, that his maniacal laugh and twisted sense of humor are instantly recognizable.
A still from Batman: The Animated Series
Among many names that have taken the role of The Joker, Mark Hamill remains the most surprising one. The good guy of the Galaxy Far, Far Away has been voicing Batman’s biggest enemy for many years now. Bill Skarsgård, son of Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård, has proven his talent as an actor with his performance in numerous projects. He made his first professional notable appearance as an actor in the lead role of the Swedish movie Simple Simon, released in 2011. His acting proficiency won him the European Film Academy’s Shooting Stars Award in 2012 when he was only 21 years old.
Different people have different talents. Although Skarsgård’s talent is undoubtedly acting, some might argue that he is good at it because it is in his blood since he is Stellan Skarsgård’s son. However, if there is one thing that remains undisputed about the actor, it is that he specializes in the horror genre.

In 2017, director Andy Muschietti helmed "It Chapter One," adapted from the first half of Stephen King's massive horror tome, which had previously only been seen as a 1990 television miniseries starring Tim Curry as the terrifying Pennywise the Clown. Somewhat to the surprise of production company Warner Bros., it was not just a hit, but a huge box office phenomenon that blew financial projections out of the water. Although "It Chapter Two," released in 2019, couldn't match the critical or box office success of the first film, the franchise is nonetheless regarded as one of the most creatively ambitious adaptations of King's horror novels.
On the surface, "It" doesn't seem like it would need a tremendous amount of special effects work. The wildly unnerving story revolves around an evil clown murdering children in suburban Maine, which might require some extensive makeup but little else. That is, however, before you begin to...

Jenny Hagel is “obsessed” with giving people advice – whether people ask or not. “I’m sure it’s everybody’s least favorite thing about me, but I can’t stop,” she admits. “It’s like a facial tic, except in my personality.”
While this could be annoying in the hands of a lesser talent, Hagel happens to be a gifted comedian and writer with a talent for showmanship. Case in point, her Emmy-nominated work as a a writer and performer on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” where she is perhaps best known for a recurring segment called “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell” with her frequent collaborator Amber Ruffin. Because Ruffin is Black and Hagel is gay, they appear every so often to recite punchlines that are off-limits to the host. What are the highest grossing horror movies of all time? More specifically, what are the highest grossing horror franchises of all time? On the list of the Top 20, only Five franchises in the history of the genre have crossed the $1 billion mark. Can you guess which ones?
Franchises including The Purge, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Final Destination, The Exorcist, Insidious and Halloween are some of the biggest of all time, but even they haven’t yet been able to crack that massive billion dollar milestone. Other franchises including Paranormal Activity and Scream come even closer, but haven’t yet crossed over into the billions.

The question of how to get the most authenticity possible out of actors has been riling up filmmakers for as long as the film medium has existed. William Wyler ("Ben-Hur") did 40 takes; Robert Bresson ("Pickpocket") insisted on simple movements and monotone line deliveries; Italian Neorealists cast people off the street; Robert Altman ("Nashville") let actors improvise; Andrei Tarkovsky ("Solaris") kept them in the dark about how the story would end.
When it comes to horror, the quest becomes even more daunting: How do you convince viewers that the people they're seeing on screen are genuinely disturbed and terrified, while also securing enough distance between actors and characters to keep the shoot sustainable? Some films have attempted to split the difference by instilling genuine scares, discomfort, and emotional distress on their actors. Others assembled their respective violent scenarios to within an inch of their lives, placing performers into circumstances that were...

Horror villains may terrify us and give us countless nightmares but that doesn't stop us from shelling out our hard-earned cash to see them hack their way through innocent victims on the big screen. There are innumerable reasons why these murderous figures have become pop culture icons: their signature modus operandi, their unique looks, the one-liners they spout before causing some serious bloodshed, whatever. From Leatherface to Ghostface, from Pinhead to Pumpkinhead, we simply can't take our eyes off the screen when these legendary monsters make their appearance.
However, there's no better way to undermine the terror and mystery of horror villains than by watching the actors who play them goof around behind the scenes. Not only does it destroy the illusion by revealing that these maniacs and monsters are just people in costumes and makeup but it shows that, in reality, they are about as harmless as Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Off the heels — or the fangs, rather — of the first image from Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, the director has commented on lead Bill Skarsgård, who plays Count Orlok.
Speaking with Empire, Robert Eggers said his star is so immersed in the role that he might slip through the cracks when it comes to proper recognition. “I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just…he’s not there…He felt like honouring who had come before him. It’s all very subtle.” Those that came before him most notably include Max Schreck in the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu and Klaus Kinski in Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979). Eggers’ comments call to mind 2000’s Shadow of the Vampire, which saw Willem Dafoe playing original Orlock Max Schreck and wondered if Schreck — who was so convincing in...

It's a wonder that horror filmmakers don't scare themselves senseless all the time. Whenever I see creepy set pieces like the freaky clowns from "Hell House LLC" or monster designs like the one brought to life by Bonnie Aarons in "The Nun," I imagine I'd be running for the hills after spending too much time on set -- like Bill Hader sprinting away from Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise on the set of "It: Chapter 2." It's no wonder, then, that the life-sized animatronic puppets and costumes used on the set of the new "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie gave some of the cast and crew the willies.

One of the most celebrated cinematic interpretations of Stephen King is the two-film adaptation of his seminal horror novel "It." Directed by Andy Muschietti, with the movies released in 2017 and 2019, "It" follows the twisted coming-of-age of a group of childhood friends in Derry, Maine. While the seven kids are harassed by neighborhood bully Henry Bowers (Nicholas Hamilton) and his gang of teenage ne'er-do-wells, a different kind of evil festers under Derry. Primarily appearing in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård), this otherworldly monster instills fear in its young victims before consuming them entirely.
Though the creature has haunted the region since ancient times, the first chapter takes place in the summer of 1989. That's when Pennywise surfaces to claim new victims around Derry while setting its sights on the main characters. There are ominous clouds gathering over the opening weekend of "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," which is rather appropriate for a film about a ship's crew who are doomed to become a mid-journey vampire snack. Made for a steep (for a horror movie) budget of $45 million, "Last Voyage of the Demeter" is set to fall short of expectations that were already set very low. Though Variety reported in the wake of Thursday previews that the film was heading for an opening weekend between $7 million and $9 million, Friday's numbers are now pointing to a debut of just $6.5 million, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on a chapter from Bram Stoker's "Dracula," the film was directed by André Øvredal, who has some great horror movies already under his belt, including "Troll Hunter," "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," and "The Autopsy of Jane Doe." But mixed reviews indicate that "The Last Voyage of the Demeter...

The "Twisted Metal" video games were truly unique for their era, bringing players into brutal vehicular combat with a variety of colorful characters to choose from. There wasn't ever particularly great continuity between the games, so each had its own unique story and reason for the Twisted Metal competition, but many of the characters returned again and again, allowing fans of the franchise to really develop their favorites. Of all of the characters in the games, from motorcycle-riding reaper Mr. Grimm to tank-driving serial killer Kane to Dragula-driving musician Rob Zombie, perhaps the most famous is the killer clown Sweet Tooth, who drives a tricked-out ice cream truck.
The upcoming "Twisted Metal" live-action series on Peacock looks like it's just as wild as its video game counterparts, and that means they needed a Sweet Tooth to match. The creepy killer clown is portrayed physically by wrestler Samoa Joe, with...

(Welcome to Scariest Scene Ever, a column dedicated to the most pulse-pounding moments in horror with your tour guides, horror experts Chris Evangelista and Matt Donato. In this edition, Chris sails a boat with "It" 2017.)
If you're afraid of clowns, there's a good chance you have Stephen King to blame. King practically gave birth to the killer clown horror story with his massive tome of terror "It," the story of a small Maine town cursed by a Lovecraftian monster who just happens to be able to take the shape of anything it wants — including a clown. The novel was famously adapted into a miniseries in the '90s, and in 2017, a new version of "It" hit the big screen. Despite some changes — it's set primarily in the '80s instead of the '50s like King's novel, and only has one timeline instead of two as King jumps back and...

The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards 2023 streamed live on Shudder last night – if you missed the show, you can watch it right now! – honoring the best in horror from the past year.
While the Academy Awards may have ignored 2022’s best horror, including The Black Phone, Prey, and Nope, the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards once again served as horror’s own celebration of another incredible year for the genre. And Bloody Disgusting/Cinedigm are thrilled to report that our movies took home Chainsaw Awards in five different categories this year!
Damien Leone’s Terrifier 2 was the biggest winner of the night, winning a whopping four Chainsaw Awards. Horror fans selected Terrifier 2 as the Best Limited Release Movie of 2022, while the film also won for Best Makeup FX and Best Kill. The latter award was won for the gruesome bedroom kill of Allie, a new high water mark for practical gore effects.

When McFarlane Toys resurrected their Movie Maniacs line earlier this year, it included very few maniacs. There was the Wicked Witch of the West, who is undoubtedly one of the most iconic villains in cinema history, but the rest of the lineup included Harry Potter, Bugs Bunny and Ted Lasso. Come on, they could have at least gone with Snape, Wile E. Coyote and Nate! Now, wave two of Movie Maniacs has been announced…and there isn’t a single maniac to be found.
The next line of Movie Maniacs from McFarlane Toys features Gandalf the Grey (from The Lord of the Rings), Sloth (from The Goonies) and Alan (from The Hangover). So we’ve got a wise wizard, a deformed man with a heart of gold and the guy from The Goonies…None of these characters meets the qualifications of “maniac”, but it does make us want a Mama Fratelli figure.

Filming kicked off this month on the HBO Max series “Welcome to Derry,” an official prequel to the two Stephen King-based It movies from Andy Muschietti. Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Muschietti shared a first-look behind the scenes photo from the set.
The photo, which you’ll find below, shows us the office door of Derry’s Chief of Police Clint Bowers, a new member of the Bowers family we’ll be meeting in “Welcome to Derry.”
Henry Bowers was of course the leader of the Bowers Gang that tormented the Losers’ Club in Stephen King’s classic horror story, and we’ve also met Butch Bowers (Henry’s father) and Connor Bowers (Henry’s cousin) in Muschietti’s movie adaptations. Butch Bowers was a cop, so it makes sense that another family member was the Chief of Police some years prior.
But who exactly is Clint Bowers?...

In early 2022, a reoccurring, annoying discourse was circulating Horror Twitter: “There are no original horror icons anymore.” In particular, these people were discussing slashers, and how bored they were of the just-about-to-be-released Scream and Ghostface, as well as Michael Myers, off the heels of Halloween Kills, released a few months prior. Fast forward to just over a year later, and this writer is hoping those Tweeters have since eaten their words.
According to the elementary description for slasher movies spoken by Samara Weaving’s doomed Film Studies-teaching character in Scream VI, slashers are indicative of the era in which they are made, which is also true of any horror subgenre, to be fair. The Golden Age of Slashers of the ’80s are a product of its Reagan-era conservative values to which they either mocked or preached. We assume that Pennywise the Dancing Clown is going to show up on the HBO Max series Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), at some point. We’re just not sure who would be playing Pennywise, as just a week ago Bill Skarsgard, who played the evil clown in those two movies, said he isn’t involved with the show. As we wait to hear the Pennywise details, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the names of four actors who will be seen in the show: they are Taylour Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), and James Remar (Dexter).
Details on the roles Paige, Adepo, Chalk, and Remar will be playing are being kept under wraps. So for all we know, Pennywise could be lurking in their midst.

Coming soon from HBO Max, the series “Welcome to Derry” will serve as a prequel to the two Stephen King movies from Andy Muschietti, but will Bill Skarsgård be returning?

“We’ll see what they come up with and what they do with it. This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4."
"John Wick" is our greatest modern action franchise, but the movies have become more and more complicated as they have progressed, and some of the plot points in Chad Stahelski's "John Wick: Chapter 4" will only resonate with those who were taking notes in the last few chapters.
But the basics are all one really needs to follow the films: "John Wick" takes place in a fantasy universe where a measurable percentage of the human population are professional assassins. To accommodate them all, a complex underground society has formed, complete with its own bylaws and codes of honor. Assassins can gather in specially designated hotels where murder is off limits, and where they will be connected with sommeliers and tailors who will feed and dress them well, but also provide high-tech firearms and formal ware that is also bulletproof.

On the way from HBO Max is a series titled “Welcome to Derry,” which will serve as a prequel to the two Stephen King movies from Andy Muschietti, and THR reports this afternoon that the project has now officially been given a straight-to-series order!
Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs are on board the Pennywise prequel project from Warner Bros. Television, THR also notes today. “Andy Muschietti will direct multiple episodes of the series, including the first episode.”
Variety had reported last year, “The series will begin in the 1960s in the time leading up to the events of It: Part One, the 2017 film based on the Stephen King horror novel. The story is also said to include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown.”
Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman, Ice Age: Continental Drift) and Brad Caleb Kane (“Moonhaven,” “Black Sails,” “Fringe”) will serve as co-showrunners for the prequel series.

Death and the horror genre go hand in hand. Not every scary movie features the death of a character, and horror is certainly not the only type of film in which characters die, but terrifying films deal with the business of death (i.e. the realms both near and beyond the grave). Once the cameras stop rolling and the director yells "cut," most actors walk back into the sunlight and leave the terrifying scenes they're creating behind. Every once in a while, the shadow of death seems to follow actors home, claiming them shortly after they've finished making their films. Sometimes these deaths lead to rumors of curses and jinxed productions, but they are simply one part of life's vicious circle. However, unsettling coincidences and the eerieness of seeing an actor in a role after passing on often lead to the feeling that something darker is afoot.
