Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was on top of the world Thursday as she celebrated the fourth and final season of Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever”.
The 21-year-old actress prepares to say goodbye to Devi Vishwakumar in the new season of Mindy Kaling‘s coming-of-age comedy, which finds the titular heroine entering her senior year of high school. But before she and her friends say sayonara to Sherman Oaks High, they have a few loose ends to tie up, including the aftermath of Devi and Ben’s “one free boink.”
While season 4 is mere days away from premiering on Netflix, Ramakrishnan and her castmates wrapped filming nearly a year ago in August 2022. For the Canadian actress, who made her screen debut with “Never Have I Ever”, she’s “over the bittersweet” emotions about closing this chapter in her life. “[It’s] just nothing but sweet,” Ramakrishnan exclusively told Et’s Denny Directo on the...

No sitcom is complete without an occasional guest star popping in to shake things up. When it comes to "The Simpsons," they've booked almost everyone in Hollywood at some point, whether it be Meryl Streep, Phil Hartman, Johnny Cash, Neil Gaiman, Billie Eilish, or Tom Hiddleston. Throw a rock in Los Angeles and you'll likely hit someone who has done a guest spot on the animated sitcom.
These spots usually fluctuate between a celebrity playing a character that impacts the family in some way, such as Dustin Hoffman's Mr. Bergstrom, or an uninspired one-and-done playing themselves like Elon Musk. This does not, nor will it ever, apply to Mark Hamill.
When asked by IGN if the show had any guest stars they had been pulling for, executive producer Al Jean revealed that they had tried to arrange a U.S. President to no avail:

This year's Tribeca Film Festival has hosted projects involving Tom Hanks, photographer Mick Rock, Ricky Gervais, Kevin Spacey — and, oh yes, the Grateful Dead. Premiering at the downtown New York film fest this week, Grateful Dead: Truckin' is a slice of concert footage from one of the reunited band's "Fare Thee Well" shows last summer.
Starting with 1977's The Grateful Dead Movie, the Dead are hardly newcomers to the performance-movie world, but Truckin' adds a new twist: It was shot in virtual reality. "You're not just looking at a screen,...

Ufc on Fox 12 had a fair number of big names spread throughout its card: Robbie Lawler, Matt Brown, Anthony Johnson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (a.k.a. Lil Nog). Bobby Green, Josh Thompson, and Clay Guida are all guys who are capable of headlining or co-headlining an event, and all of them were packed onto the main card last night.
Some fighters, like Lawler and Thompson, are still cashing in on Strikeforce contracts, while others, like Brown and Guida, have worked their way up through the Ufc ranks to get to the point where they can earn a decent wage.
A number of fighters went home happy even in defeat, while others, despite hefty win bonuses, might not have banked what you would expect for a top draw.
Payouts in the Ufc are always an interesting situation, since so much depends on how good a contract an agent can procure for a fighter,...

On a few occasions, many writers have labeled a Ufc event on Fox as the best card of the year on paper. We heard it for Ufc on Fox 5 and just recently for Ufc on Fox 11. Now the Ufc is on their twelfth show for Fox and it’s being considered as the best card on paper. That is completely understandable given the matchups on the card.
Besides Michael Johnson, no injuries have derailed this card unlike past Fox events. It will be headlined by a number one contender’s bout in the welterweight division between Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown. I’m ecstatic that the Ufc is using Fox to showcase number one contender fights in popular divisions. That is the best way to keep fans interested, if you can’t have a title fight on the card.
Anthony Johnson is back to face the returning Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Live from San Jose, California, Ufc on Fox 12 (though it’s still being called Fight Night by the Ufc, it’s a Ufc on Fox event) features the billed main event of Robbie Lawler vs. Matt “The Immortal” Brown, a welterweight title eliminator which will determine who meets champion Johny Hendricks in the octagon later this year.
In a co-main event that also holds possible title implications, recently returned light heavyweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson meets “Lil Nog” – Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. It’s new breed against old guard in this bout, and it might not last long.
Rounding out the four-fight main card are matches between the popular Clay Guida against Dennis Bermudez, and Josh Thompson versus Bobby Green, in his first fight back since the murder of his younger brother. Whether Green can keep his focus in the cage remains to be seen, but it will no doubt be an...

The St. Louis Globe-Democrat is a monthly newspaper run by Steve DeBellis, a well know St. Louis historian, and it’s the largest one-man newspaper in the world. The concept of The Globe is that there is an old historic headline, then all the articles in that issue are written as though it’s the year that the headline is from. It’s an unusual concept but the paper is now in its 27th successful year! Steve and I collaborated in 2011 on an all-Vincent Price issue of The Globe and I have been writing a regular monthly movie-related column since. Our working alliance is simple: Steve tells me a year and I pick a movie from that year and write about it. Last month Steve threw me the year 1963. Since I was hosting a Ray Harryhausen tribute event at the St. Louis International Film Festival and was eager to...

As Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons, Marcia Wallace may be the only 4th-grade teacher to have the same student for 24 years. Before that, she was beloved as Carol Kester, the lovelorn, wisecracking secretary on The Bob Newhart Show.
Wallace, who was a breast cancer survivor for 28 years, has died at age 70, according to the showrunner of The Simpsons. “I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace,” producer Al Jean said in a statement to EW. “She was beloved by all at The Simpsons and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character.

Alex Karpovsky's Red Flag and Rubberneck Films have both landed at Tribeca Film The distributor plans to release the films in February, 2013 in theaters and via VOD, reports Variety. The Rubberneck thriller was seen at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, and also stars Karpovsky, as well as Jaime Ray Newman, Dennis Starselsky and Amanda Good Hennessey. Garth Donovan scripted alongside Karpovsky, the film that follows Paul Harris (Karpovsky) a scientist at a small research facility on the outskirts of Boston. After a weekend tryst with Danielle, an attractive co-worker, leaves him wanting more, his unreciprocated desires gradually mold into an acute infatuation over the following months. Paul's suppressed resentments and perverse delusions become unhinged, triggering a horrific course of events that mercilessly engulf a tortured past and fugitive present.

For some years now Tom Prasek and I have commiserated about the need for a serious networking solution and overview organization about (for lack of a better term) 'the film festival world'.
I think Ffa might be on to something and I am really glad to lend support. I urge filmmakers, market participants and festival folks and press to pay close attention.
Where: Amphitheater, Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, Lincoln Center, NYC
When: 27th/28th September 2012
As each industry event produced by the Film Festival Academy is specifically curated in light of the requirements of the hosting festival or organisation, the first theme of our event in New York is New York film programming, looking at all the very many different institutions – festivals, cinemas, museums, galleries – involved in programming specifically for New York audiences.
The second theme focuses on film festival form, and here again we're looking to kick-start a debate that will run on longer via the Film Festival Academy website and related blogs etc.
Confirmed speakers and timetable:
Thursday 27th – Focus on New York-specific Film Programming
09:30–10:00 Registration, coffee
10:00–10:15 Welcome
10:15–12:15 Mapping the Landscape of New York Programming and Connecting with Audiences
Comprising a panel of NYC-based film programmers and moving image museum/gallery curators discussing various aspects of their responsibilities programming specifically for NYC audiences, and the various institutional freedoms and constraints they have, ie a general introduction to the practical context of NYC-specific film programming.
– Scott Foundas (New York Film Festival)
– David Schwartz (Museum of the Moving Image)
– Thom Powers (Doc NYC)
– Cristina Cacciopo (92Y Tribeca)
– Jon Dieringer (Screen Slate)
12:15–13:30 Lunch (provided, for all participants/attendees)
13:30–14:45 A Detailed Look at New York Cinephilia
A moderated conversation between Richard Peña (New York Film Festival) and Lisa Schwartzbaum (Entertainment Weekly) discussing in greater depth the theory and practice behind NYC-specific programming and festival programming more generally, from viewpoints that encompass experience in actual programming as well as academia/film history and film criticism.
14:45–15:00 Coffee
15:15–16:45 Programming for Niche Audiences
A session focusing on the specific issues involved in programming for target constituents, and exploring issues of reach and retention of interest from core communities, whether 'genre' focused or more 'ethnically/culturally' defined.
– Chair: Brian Gordon (festival consultant)
– Lisa Vandever (CineKink)
– Basil Tsiokos (festival consultant)
– Stephen Kent Jusick (Mix)
– Bradford Nordeen (Dirty Looks)
16:45–17:00 Coffee
17:00–18:30 Exploring the Nature of Contemporary Scholarly Film Festival Studies
Comprising a panel of scholars working in the fast-growing area of academic film festival studies, providing an overview of their area of research and thereby shedding light on more theoretical, historical issues, and developing the specific focus on NYC back out to wider considerations; note, these will Not be academic papers in any conventional sense, but rather informal accounts given by people professionally engaged in researching this field, providing insight into what, and why, and so balancing the NYC-specific practical considerations above with more theoretical considerations of the nature and role of film festivals generally.
– Faye Ginsburg (New York University)
– Toby Lee (Harvard University)
– Dennis Broe (Long Island University)
Friday 28th – Focus on Film Festival Form
09:45–10:00 Coffee
10:00–12:00 An Interrogation of Film Festival Form
A focus on theoretical and practical considerations of film festival form; this will be instigated by a manifesto on film festival form proposed by Mark Cousins that will then responded to by a panel that, again, represents the various interested constituents from festival programming, film criticism, and academic film festival studies, but will very much be an open session.
– Chair: Sean Farnel (festival consultant)
– David Sterritt (Columbia University)
– Ingrid Kopp (Tribeca Film Institute Digital Initiatives)
– Dan Nuxoll (Rooftop Films)
12:00 Closing remarks
Free registration is available to all Premium Members of the Film Festival Academy. Places currently remaining:32

Band's halftime performance at Lions' annual Thanksgiving game 'is completely unfair' to the team's fans, online petition says.

It's not exactly breaking news that Nickelback tend to elicit a certain level of, uh, acrimony from music fans (perhaps they've never heard "Bottoms Up"?), but up until now, we thought they were pretty cool with fans of the Detroit Lions.
Apparently not. Or at least not with Lions backer Dennis Guttman, who has started an online petition asking the team to scrap a planned Nickelback performance during halftime of their annual Thanksgiving game — mostly because, for the first time since the Barry Sanders heyday, the Lions are not abysmally awful (they're 6-2), and their Turkey Day tilt against the undefeated, Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers will have the eyes of the nation firmly fixed on the Motor City.

The Music Room (Criterion) Satyajit Ray’s 1958 masterpiece looks at the life of a fallen aristocrat as a metaphor for an India that is not only becoming Westernized, but modernized technologically and culturally beyond recognition. When the beloved music room, where he has hosted lavish concerts in the past, starts falling into disrepair as attendance drops steadily, the man realizes his way of life is vanishing. Stunningly shot in black & white, one of Ray’s finest works. Bonuses: Documentary on Ray from 1984 by Shyam Benegal; Interviews with Ray biographer Andrew Robinson and filmmaker Mira Nair; Excerpt from 1981 roundtable discussion between Ray, critic Michael Ciment, director Claude Sautet. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Full screen. Dolby 1.0 mono.
Beauty And The Beast (Criterion) Jean Cocteau’s sublime adaptation of the classic fairy tale become a beloved classic upon its 1946 release, and hasn’t faded since.

Wheneverwe’re asked to give our opinion about the greatest Saturday Night Live cast members of all time, people are alwayssurprised by our picks. While many SNLfans love Kristin Wig, we cite Gilda Radner as the show’s greatest female NotReady for Primetime Player. Yes Will Ferrell is funny but he couldn’t hold acandle to Phil Hartman’s comedic range. And while some might like Dennis Milleror Chevy Chase at the Weekend Updatenews desk, we will always stand firmly behind the choice that no one did snarkysatire quite like Norm MacDonald. Granted he had the added advantage ofanchoring the spots at the height of both the Michael Jackson molestationinvestigation and O.J. Simpson murder trial. But no anchor before or sense haspushed the limits far enough to get fired from the sketch comedy series likegood old Norm.
To ourtastes, TV has been without Norm for far too long.

As we told you back in November, Cyndi Lauper and Lady GaGa are teaming up with Mac Viva Glam cosmetics with two custom color lipsticks to raise money for AIDS awareness in women. They appeared together on Good Morning America today to formally launch the campaign, and my inner fanboy wasn't the only one going Squee! George Stephanopoulos tripped over himself gushing about Lady GaGa. George, you had a living legend on that stage, and you gushed at the legend-to-be.
I found an extended version of the promo for Modern Family tonight, and sadly, it's Phil-heavy. Still, it's fairly racy for network television. Enjoy what television you can this week, because come Friday, it's Winter Olympics or reruns for two weeks.
