Sherwood Schwartz's 1964 sitcom "Gilligan's Island" was a pop-cultural powerhouse, attracting a mass audience larger than any of the CBS executives expected. While many critics and audience members criticized the show for being silly, unrealistic, and simplistic, it nonetheless lasted for three hit seasons, and was put into eternal syndication, staying alive in reruns for decades. What's more, the series warranted numerous TV movie sequels and spinoffs, including a 1981 TV movie wherein Gilligan (Bob Denver) and the other castaways met the Harlem Globetrotters -- called, helpfully, "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" -- and an animated series wherein the castaways became stranded on a distant planet (!). Yes, "Gilligan's Planet" is a thing.
The spinoffs retained all the original cast members, with the exception of Tina Louise, whose character, Ginger, was played by various other actors. Curiously, the Globetrotters movie was the last time an original "Gilligan's Island" project graced the screen.

NeNe Leakes is spilling the tea from her time as an original castmember on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and this time she sharing her experience with someone who can relate, Bethenny Frankel (“The Real Housewives of New York”).
During her two-part conversation with Frankel on her podcast “Just B,” Leakes dished on some old and new items like feeling like she was blacklisted following her lawsuit against NBCUniversal, Bravo, and production companies True Entertainment and Truly Original, and how Black “housewives” were not given the same privileges as their white counterparts.
But there were new revelations, like Frankel’s attempt to pitch a show starring her and Leakes called “Ebony and Ivory,” and Leakes admitting she felt executive producer/host Andy Cohen never liked her.
Leakes also recognized the jumpstart that “Housewives” gave her TV career but now wants to return to her real passion — acting. Here’s a...

The star of Disney’s big-budget live action remake of The Little Mermaid, due in theaters on May 26, says seeing a black mermaid on screen when she was younger would have “changed my whole life.”
Halle Bailey told the UK’s Guardian:
“If I would have had a black mermaid, that would have been insane, that would have changed my whole perspective, my whole life, my confidence, my self-worth. You’re able to see a person who looks like you, when you’re young? Some people are just like, oh, it’s whatever, because they’ve had it their whole life. It’s nothing to them. But it’s so important.”
When it was announced, back in 2019, that Bailey had won the role, #NotMyAriel started trending on social media and has continued to be a response to new posters and trailers for the film, which also stars Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs,...

After making more than $1.4 billion at the box office, producer Will Packer has gotten into the streaming game with “Praise This.”
The Peacock original marks Packer’s first time producing a movie that wasn’t destined for cinemas. While the new distribution plan might seem like a reaction to the hit or miss theatrical business — or the kind of pivot that would happen after a box office bomb, which Packer has yet to suffer, by the way — that’s not what’s behind the change in strategy.
“Malleable” is a word Packer has found himself using quite often in reference to the current state of moviemaking.
“I’ve had a lot of success with movies that were moderately-budgeted breakout theatrical hits,” he tells Variety over tea at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City. “But there are some of my movies that were successful theatrically five to 10 years ago that...

Chlöe's mentor and confidant Beyoncé once said, "You know you that b*tch when you cause all this conversation." These days, Chlöe is used to being a trending topic on social media. Not that the 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and actor pays attention to it, seeing as she occasionally removes apps like Twitter and Instagram from her phone when the negative comments get overwhelming.

"I could go down the whole negative path but I have to learn to not really care and to know that as long as I am being authentically and unapologetically myself, then I'm good."

Thank You, Tina Knowles, For Praising Chloe x Halle the Way They Deserve: "They Will Be Unstoppable"
Chloe and Halle Bailey might've been snubbed at the 2021 Grammys, but Tina Knowles is one of many people who understand that their prolific journey is just getting started. On March 18, Tina shared a heartfelt post on Instagram praising the dynamic duo alongside a photo of Chloe and daughter Beyoncé on set during the 2003 movie The Fighting Temptations. "How cute and prophetic is this that Chloe played Beyoncé's character as a child in the movie Fighting Temptations," Tina wrote. "Who would have ever thought that one day Chloe would be signed to Beyoncé's label?"
In 2015, Chloe x Halle were signed to Beyoncé's label, Parkwood Entertainment, after the singer discovered their YouTube videos, and she's continued as their mentor ever since. We've seen the gratitude and deep admiration they have for each other over the last few years, but Tina's words hold a profound meaning less than one week after the Grammys.

The sister duo kicked things off by recalling how they first got into Beyoncé’s music. Beyoncé is notorious for being hush-hush when it comes to her private life. Writer-producer Saladin K. Patterson has signed a new multi-year, overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Under the pact, Patterson, who currently is an executive producer on FX comedy Untitled Lil Dickey, will develop, write and produce comedy series for network, cable and streaming platforms. Untitled Lil Dicky, based on the life of comedian and rapper Lil Dicky, received a series order at FX earlier this year.
“The studio’s history with Saladin began more than sixteen years ago, and we’re so happy to welcome him back,” said Carolyn Cassidy, 20th Century Fox TV President of Creative Affairs. “His writing is as smart as it is hilarious, two adjectives that pretty well sum up Saladin himself. He’s also as versatile a writer as there is, having worked in single cam and multicam, live action and animation. He can pretty much do anything, and we’re very glad that...

“A Star Is Born” opens this weekend as one of the most anticipated releases of 2018. The film’s title may as well refer to its lead actress, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lady Gaga, whose previous movie experience came from brief appearances in two Robert Rodriguez films. Her reviews are rapturous and she’s a leading contender for a Best Actress Oscar nomination, all of which could make her the biggest singing crossover since Barbra Streisand.
Hollywood hasn’t seen a singer become a breakout success since Whitney Houston in 1992 — although many have tried. John Singleton’s 1993 “Poetic Justice” featured Janet Jackson opposite Tupac Shakur, which grossed $61 million. She costarred with Eddie Murphy in “The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps” ($212 million), and was part of a Tyler Perry ensemble in two “Why Did I Get Married” films.

Jeff Pollack, director of Booty Call and Above the Rim, was found dead on Monday morning. He was 54.
Jeff Pollock Dies
Pollack had been at Hermosa Beach, Calif., on Monday in the Greenbelt jogging area when it’s believed he collapsed. A fellow jogger discovered Pollack and subsequently called police. He’d been sporting jogging clothes and had his iPod with him. No foul play is suspected.
“He was already deceased,” Hermosa Beach Police Department Capt. Tommy Thompson told the Hermosa Beach Easy Reader. “He was very cold and had been there a bit. It's still unknown how he died. We're not sure if it was a heart attack, but there were no signs of foul play."
In addition to his directing work, Pollack served as both a writer and producer on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. His other producing credits include The Fighting Temptations, Jennifer Lopez in Concert and The Tyra Banks Show.

This week we lost producer-director Jeff Pollack, who died suddenly while jogging in Hermosa Beach at the age of 54. Few knew him better than longtime friend and business partner Benny Medina. The two met at a card game in the 1980s and bonded over their mutual love of film, television and music. They went to create the format for the hit 1990 NBC comedy series The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, whose central character played by Will Smith was based on Medina. Three years later, they formed management/production company Medina/Pollack Entertainment, renamed Handprint Entertainment in 1995, with Smith as their first client. Pollack and Medina collaborated on a slew of film and TV projects, including the features Above the Rim, based on a story by the duo with Pollack directing, The Fighting Temptations and The Tyra Banks Show. While Handprint closed its doors in 2008, Pollack and Medina remained close. Here is...

Just call Beyoncé an overachiever. Despite having a shelf full of Grammys (16, to be exact), a string of movie roles under her belt and a catalog of sing-a-long hits, the pop superstar has recently scored the lead role in Clint Eastwood's remake of "A Star Is Born," an opportunity she calls "the biggest opportunity of my life."
Speaking with Reuters, B opened up about the iconic movie role (previously played by Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland), sharing her jitters about the first time she met Hollywood heavyweight Eastwood.
"I met with Clint and I was so nervous and I know that it is the biggest opportunity of my life," she said. "I will work as hard as I can, because I can't wait. And I am so happy that he trusts me and I am in good hands and I am so fortunate."

Our favorite actors come and go as newer and younger stars replace them. This process happens every 10 to 20 years, while some actors continue to hold on strong well into their death. What we’ve got for you is a list of actors and actresses that were huge in the 1990s, but that are now ever hardly seen, and what movie killed their career. The list of actors and actresses we have for you below appear in random order, as the amount of “Fail” in each one of them is too great to rank.

A star was born 30 years ago in Beyoncé Knowles, but she is finally ready to proclaim it to the world with the help of none other than director Clint Eastwood.
Deadline has the news that Knowles will be starring in the long-gestating Warner Bros. adaptation of the classic film(s) "A Star Is Born." Knowles has starred in several other musical adaptations ("Dreamgirls," "The Fighting Temptations," "Cadillac Records"), but this will unquestionably be her most high-profile film to date.
Eastwood is also no stranger to the musical genre, though he has been focusing more on directing gritty dramas in recent years. He's done everything from "Paint Your Wagon" to "Play Misty For Me" to "Honkytonk Man," and has scored many of his recent films, including "Mystic River," "Million Dollar Baby" and "Changeling."

Beyoncé Knowles is headed back to the big screen and into the familiar territory of playing an aspiring singer-turned-superstar. According to Deadline, Knowles will star in a remake of "A Star Is Born," to be directed and produced by Oscar winner Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros.
The remake will be the fourth telling of the "A Star Is Born" tale, the most memorable in recent years being the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as star-crossed lovers of sorts. It is also worth mentioning that the producers of that film, Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, are also attached to this new project. It is said to be a full-on musical with production set to begin sometime in the fall.

I Am Number Four
Opens: February 18th 2011
Cast: Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Dianna Agron, Kevin Durand, Teresa Palmer
Director: D.J. Caruso
Summary: Nine infant aliens flee their home planet to hide out on Earth. The species that destroyed their planet however has followed them and sets out to hunt them down. As the infants grow into teenagers with special powers, three of them are killed. A fourth has fallen in love and now has something to stand up and fight for.
Analysis: In premise and look, this sounds like a big budget and more action-oriented reboot of late sci-fi teen drama "Roswell". Though based on a young adult novel series, it was another title in this category that was the impetus for this adaptation - Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series. Any novels with a focus on teen romance and an other worldly touch are presently being bought up right and...

Jeff Mitchell on Rue McClanahanI was working on a movie for Paramount called "The Fighting Temptations," directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Cuba Gooding Jr. We were doing the New York casting. Rue McClanahan was pitched for it by her agent. She was doing a lot of television, but she wanted to do film very badly. We had her in to meet the director, who was British and didn't know her or understand she was a huge star in the United States. Rue took the material and she did her best. We knew what the scene was about and what the director wanted, but the communication between actor and director wasn't working properly. No matter what he was asking, he wasn't getting what he wanted. The casting director has to take a back seat when the director is running the casting session. Even though I thought I could be a...

McClanahan starred in 180 episodes of the hit show "The Golden Girls" from 1985-1992 and is now the third of the group to pass away in recent years. Wild Target is what you get when you combine British deadpan, a hitman with a conscience, Ron Weasley, a con artist on the run, mobsters, a lot of shooting, and the world of artistic forgery. In other words, something real funny. Bill Nighy (Valkyrie) plays hitman Victor Maynard who.s sent to kill a con-lady played by Emily Blunt (The Wolfman) after she ripped off a mobster. Before you know it they.ve hit Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) with a car, and the three are on the run from the mob. It looks like director Jonathan Lynn (The Fighting Temptations) has taken an unlikely trio and put them together to form a fairly adept comedy team. Nighy looks the part of a...

If you’re a fan of DC Comics, especially if you’re an ardent fan of Wonder Woman, you may want to take a seat… at least, assuming there’s any meat to this slice of comic book movie news pie.

She stated she had met with writers Stuart Beatti and David Elliot (GI Joe: Rise Of Cobra) and director John Moore (Max Payne) and that they plan to start production by mid-2010 with a release expected for late 2011.

Rhymer rewrites 'Honeymooners'
Don Rhymer has been hired to rewrite Paramount Pictures/Deep River Prods.' feature film The Honeymooners, an urban version of the classic TV series with Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps toplining in the Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton roles, respectively. Sources said the studio hired Rhymer to retool the script in an attempt to bring the film's original $35 million budget down to a range of $25 million-$30 million. The move, which will push the film's start date from December to early next year, is said to come on the heels of what the studio deems a disappointing boxoffice performance of its most recent urban feature, The Fighting Temptations, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Beyonce Knowles and Epps.
