Another year of Tiff came to a close this weekend, and by all accounts it was another resounding success. A few final premieres lit up Toronto, and the highly coveted (and often highly predictive for further awards contention) People’s Choice awards were announced. Ellen Page and Kate Mara were in attendance for the premiere of My Days of Mercy, which tells the story of two women on opposite sides of a criminal case who fall in love. While Tiff was inevitably coming to a close, Halifax native Ellen Page made sure to step out during Canada's biggest film festival. The closing night film of Tiff was C'est la vie, a French film about the staff's role...

Wim Wenders’s globe-trotting tale of two lovers separated by circumstance is handsomely told but stilted dialogue and genre confusion weigh it down
There’s a lot going on in Wim Wenders’s latest, and arguably most accessible, film, Submergence. It’s a love story, it’s a spy thriller, it’s an underwater adventure, it’s about terrorism, it’s about climate change, it’s about being ghosted by text (!). But ultimately – sadly, predictably – it’s also a bit of a mess.

Are you ready to get a little nostalgic on this fine Throwback Thursday?! We at the E! News offices like to play this little game of seeing who can remember the lyrics to old pop songs from the '90s, which got us thinking of some of the bands who made those hits...most of which we've forgotten existed at this point. For example, do you remember B*Witched and "C'est la Vie"? Or how about Omarion's boy band B2K and their club hit "Bump Bump Bump"? 3Lw and "No More"? We could go on and on, but now that we've got you hooked (just admit it!), let's take a look at some of those long-lost groups and pay tribute to the fact that music definitely peaked in...

Titling a film is no trivial matter, especially from a marketing perspective. As history has proven, there have been numerous films made which have little more to offer than a cracking title. A really sharp one can help sell the poorest product, conversely a stellar piece of movie-making can be undermined by something uninspired. When you're trying to make your movie stand out in a marketplace awash with alternatives, an attention-grabbing title is a crucial consideration and you'll probably be aiming for something that harbours intrigue, allure, and is capable of fostering curiosity and anticipation. When it was first unleashed theatrically in 1985, Howling II: Stirba – Werewolf Bitch was certainly an attention-grabber. Whether the film itself turned out to be good, bad or indifferent, as enticing titles go the suffix Stirba – Werewolf Bitch sure did the job, sending out a premium come and see me you know you...

George Gilbey treated Edele Lynch to a family caravan holiday. The 'Gogglebox' actor had a ''little bit of a thing'' with the B*Witched singer when he was on 'Celebrity Big Brother' with her in 2014 and, although their relationship didn't work out, they have remained good friends since. He said: ''Edele and I had a little bit of a thing and we're good friends now. She came to visit once and we took her to this really nice caravan park. When we went to a ferryboat for some drinks, mum arranged for her to sing 'C'est La Vie' on karaoke. She didn't...

A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I ask about your eyepatch... "Do you want to get out of here?" -Kevin "A Matter of Geography" opens with a scene that almost plays as a scathing parody of Damon Lindelof's body of work, and on the larger swath of TV dramas that lean heavily on secrets and mysteries for conflict. Remember all those times on "Lost" when you wanted to throw a shoe at the TV because two characters who had information that could mutually help each other somehow never had a real conversation about it? Well, we got everything we could have possibly wanted from the impromptu, hilariously candid family meeting, as Kevin told his daughter and girlfriend about what he did with Patti in the woods, while Nora bluntly explained, "I hire prostitutes to shoot me." These four (counting baby Lily) are a...

Countess Luann de Lesseps is serving up another life lesson through song. The "Real Housewives of New York City" star debuted her latest track, "Girl Code (Don't Be So Uncool)," on "Watch What Happens Live" on Tuesday night, grooving on stage with her band and her daughter, Victoria. The Countess says the lyrics stem from a feud with her costars during a disastrous trip to Turks and Caicos, where she famously told her gal pals, "Be cool. Don't be all, like, uncool." "I really felt violated, so that really inspired me to do the song," she told E! Online, saying that tune refers to "when friends who you think are friends don't really turn out to be friends, and they break that certain girl code." Check out the clip above to see Luann and her daughter perform the song -- host Andy Cohen and Lu's "Rhony" costars, Sonia Morgan and Dorinda Medley,...

Countess Luann de Lesseps has gifted the world with "Girl Code (Don't Be So Uncool)," her third single and first with daughter Victoria de Lesseps. And what a gift it is. "Girl Code (Don't Be So Uncool)" joins the legendary "Tardy for the Party," "On Display" and Luann's own "Money Can't Buy You Class" as singles from stars of Bravo's Real Housewives franchise. It's been a year since viewers were treated to a single from a Real Housewives star—the last one, "Flatline," came from Real Housewives of Atlanta's Porsha Williams—and four years since the Countess released "Chic, C'est La Vie." Not many people agree with Rachel Dolezal's decision to lie about her race, but there's one person who has her back — her sister. Tom Petty has written many greatest-hits albums full of radio classics. Now, thanks to a legal settlement, he’s earned a co-writing credit on a new one: Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.” The Sun reported that, thanks to unintentional similarities between Smith and his co-writers’ (James Napier and William Phillips) ballad about emotional vulnerability and Petty and his co-writer Jeff Lynne’s sorta-ballad about stoic perseverance, “I Won’t Back Down,” the latter duo will start earning a 12.5 percent credit on the royalties for “Stay With Me.”This is both old and new hat for Petty. Back in 2001, some reasonably keen-eared listeners noticed that the Strokes’ “Last Nite” sure sounded a lot like Petty’s “American Girl.” C'est la vie, said Petty. “The Strokes took ‘American Girl’ [for ‘Last Nite’],” Petty told Rolling Stone, “and I saw an interview with them where they actually admitted it. That made me laugh out loud.

Polly Bergen: 'Desperate Housewives' Emmy nominee; winner for 'The Helen Morgan Story' (photo: Felicity Huffman, Doug Savant, and Polly Bergen in 'Desperate Housewives') (See previous article: "Polly Bergen: Actress on Richard Nixon 'Enemies List'.") Polly Bergen began her lengthy — and to some extent prestigious — television career in 1950, making sporadic appearances in anthology series. She won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Single Performance – Lead or Supporting — beating Julie Andrews, Helen Hayes, Teresa Wright, and Piper Laurie — for playing troubled torch singer Helen Morgan (Show Boat) in the 1957 Playhouse 90 episode "The Helen Morgan Story," featuring veteran Sylvia Sidney as Morgan's mother. Curiously, Bergen's retelling of Helen Morgan's story was broadcast the same year that Ann Blyth starred in Michael Curtiz's Morgan biopic. Also titled The Helen Morgan Story, the film focused on the relationship between the singer and a...

Celebrity Big Brother's Leslie Jordan has chosen to send fellow housemate David McIntosh to the Scrapheap.
Kellie Maloney, Angelique 'Frenchy' Morgan and Gary Busey were previously banished to the garden residence by 'Star of the Show' Leslie.
Edele Lynch, Claire King and David were forced to compete against one another in a talent competition judged by Leslie earlier today (August 23).
Edele sang the B*Witched hit 'C'est La Vie', Claire acted out Romeo and Juliet and David flexed his muscles, before Leslie made his decision.
"From the heart, Edele had at her disposal many, many years of doing this routine. David has at his disposal this… body," Leslie joked.
He continued: "Claire was at somewhat of a disadvantage… As an actor, I know what it's like to do a cold read in which there are no costumes, there are no lights [and] there's no anything! You're just up there naked.

Tonight's Celebrity Big Brother will see three housemates battle it out to avoid the Scrapheap.
Edele Lynch, Claire King and David McIntosh have been voted the least entertaining housemates so must put on a performance to prove they don't belong in the Scrapheap.
They will be given 30 minutes to prepare after which they will be called on stage one at a time to put their talents on show in front of the other housemates.
Edele will be singing 'C'est La Vie', Claire will be acting out a scene from Romeo and Juliet and David will be flexing his muscles.
Leslie Jordan, who was voted 'Star of the Show', will then be given the power to decide which one will join Angelique 'Frenchy' Morgan and Gary Busey in the grim Garden residence.
The pair have already been forced to change into jumpsuits and haven't had any access to their beds or suitcases.

The Festival de Cannes closing ceremony makes for a fun and festive night, particularly, I suspect, if you get to watch it live from the Lumiere, the largest theater in the Palais de Festival complex and the spot where all the major events take place. Most journalists watch a simulcast from the smaller theater, the Debussy, and that's usually plenty of fun by itself -- provided the technology works, which it didn't last night: The feed kept cutting out, leaving us literally in the dark for long stretches of the ceremony. No, she played it better – she has been disciplined and smart. Look at IMDb.com: Bethenny has 41 credits as herself. Jill Zarin has only 25.
And, yes, LuAnn de Lesseps acted on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and released a single called "Chic, C'est La Vie." However, the ultimate reality star is she who builds the strongest career for herself as herself.

We saw an awful lot of lows in the first series of Big Reunion. Were there ever any happy moments for pop bands in the '90s?
"The work does consume you and you kind of live in a kind of bubble in a pop band. It can be difficult mentally after a certain amount of time. Add that to the fact we were very young and more often than not, when you get into a pop group like that you are very young, and that can cause problems. It's quite a surreal environment to be in.

Frankly, I'm not certain what Q-Tip's temper tantrum was all about, because there's really nothing in this that I'd say is damning, or paints him or his crew in a negative light. They (A Tribe Called Quest - Q-tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi) were, for all intents and purposes, a family. And families are in conflict from time to time. It's the natural order of things. Peaks and valleys, I-Ching, ying and yang; there'll be good times and there'll be not-so good times. And with maturity comes some sense of solace. You face, head-on, whatever differences divide you, squash them and move on. C'est la vie. Unless, as some suggested, it was all a publicity stunt by Tip,...

This is the first disc of tropical music that the New Yorker, winner of two Grammys and three Latin Grammys, has made in almost 10 years, since.

Kid Rock made waves by supporting Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election, but that doesn't mean he always toes the party line. In an new interview with Rolling Stone, the rocker says one point in particular had him foaming at the mouth.
As previously reported, Kid Rock is planning a tour and trying to keep ticket prices at $20. He hasn't been completely successful, however, because of ticketing fees and states that have outlawed paperless ticketing. Guess who is to blame:
"That's one of the times I'm f--king embarrassed to be a Republican," Rock said. "It's f--king Republican lawmakers passing those laws, you dumbasses. They already did it in New York and they're trying to do it in Michigan. I've even called some of those guys to try and stop it."
But the musician's rage wasn't only directed at Republican legislators. "They're taking a f--king five-dollar service charge," he said of concert retailer Ticketmaster.

Here's a lush, breezy short film that shows what happens when every single aspect of life receives "the French touch." That means "eau de toilette" and croissants in the morning, quirky threesomes in the afternoon and art films at night. As someone who lives in Paris, I was amused by how many cliches about the French are still relatively true, even when pushed to this extreme. The only thing I'd respectfully disagree with is the part where the lead character goes to the gym. French women generally prefer cigarettes and small portions to maintain their figure, and there are barely any gyms in Paris. Still, it all sounds romantic, right? Well, It is... to a point. But, as C'est La Vie slowly reveals, even the...

A parody video joining two of Martin Freeman's finest roles has been released online. The Office: An Unexpected Journey superimposes characters from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's classic sitcom The Office onto faces from the first Hobbit movie from Peter Jackson. Freeman is seen as Tim Canterbury talking about his boring job in the guise of Bilbo Baggins, while David Brent has been transformed into Gandalf the Grey. "People say I'm the best boss, they go, 'Oh you get the best out of us', and I go 'C'est la vie'," Brent says while wearing Gandalf's wizard hat and beard. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Crook appears as Gareth Keenan's new form of Gollum, and there's (more)...

There have been a lot of cool stories to come out of Hollywood in the last couple of years, but for our money one of the coolest is the sudden and unexpected career resurgence of Dolph Lundgren, who came out of nowhere (aka Europe) to reclaim his action star title with his turn as the despicable Gunnar Jensen in 2010's "The Expendables."
Now, Lundgren is kicking it into even higher gear with "Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning," which reunites him with his "Expendables 2" co-star Jean-Claude Van Damme for the sixth (!) installment of their long-running sci-fi series.
All of which got us wondering: What is it about Dolph Lundgren that makes him so cool?
Well, after doing a little research, we discovered the answer: Pretty much everything. With that in mind, we thought we'd present the top 10 Things You Didn't Know About Dolph Lundgren and help reveal the mysteries of the...

Taylor Swift is so happy she's "Never Ever Getting Back Together" with one of her exes that she threw a dance party.
In sneak preview of the breakup anthem's video, Swift looks like she's having a blast dancing exuberantly along with a group of friends -- including a dude in a donkey costume. The 22-year-old singer wears a vintage-inspired, daisy-printed dress and bright red lipstick, which only emphasizes her smile and how thrilled she is to have kicked her ex to the curb.
The full video, directed by Declan Whitebloom, will premiere at 7:49 p.m. Et on MTV, Cmt and TeenNick on Aug. 30.
The song is the first single off of Swift's forthcoming album "Red" and has already broken records, as the best-selling digital single in a week by a woman with 636,000 paid downloads, reports MTV News.

This week's The Secret Life of the American Teenager was all about "Girlfriends."Not the kind you date, the kind you bond with, share gossip with and spill your feelings to.
Amy encouraged Kathy to make some pals outside of Ethan. Making friends isn't always the easiest task, but Kathy did pretty well for herself. They may not be the nicest girls, but, hey, teenagers can be sassy. C'est la vie!
Was this episode so "friend" heavy because normal Secret Life is all about raging hormones and sex? Maybe Brenda Hampton and the writers got the memo that they drop the word "sex" about 50 times an episode? And when that got tired they subbed in the word "gay." Maybe they thought they'd go back to basics and just explore "friends."
I'm actually interested in them delving into other friendships on this show. For years it was just Amy, Lauren and...

Slow news day today folks; lots of Cannes Film Festival/Market activity, but very, very little for us to write about. C'est la vie... And as I'm about to get into some project reasearch, which will likely take me away from the site for a little bit (unless something breaks, or my research is immediately fruitful), riddle me this in the meantime... In an effort to get to the heart of it all, because that's what we like to do around here... consider these 2 items: variety and volume. If we had more of those 2 key things with regards to representations of people of African descent on screen (big and small), would most (if not all) the issues we constantly debate (not...

"Detachment" could be read as an indictment of the public school system -- thanks to the bleak portrayal of a school where no parents show up for parents' night, where students threaten each other as well as their teachers with violence, and where the only "good" student commits suicide in public. But director Tony Kaye and lead actor Adrien Brody also intended "Detachment" to be an "homage" to teachers, who are played in the film with varying levels of despair by Christina Hendricks, Tim Blake Nelson, Blythe Danner, James Caan, and Marcia Gay Harden. Kaye and Brody explained to The Playlist how the film came together in a not-by-the-book style.
Brody's father was a teacher.
Adrien Brody's father Elliot was a public school teacher, who taught history at the junior high level before he retired. And while Brody's substitute teacher Henry Barthes is not like him or his father,...

The Great Magician only qualifies as a good film. It has a great director, great cast and great production values, and it starts off great but in the end it sadly falls short of being a great film. Director Derek Yee is best known in the West for his crime thrillers such as PROTÉGÉ and One Nite In Mongkok, but he actually has a large and varied filmography. His 1993 classic C'est La Vie, Mon Cheri, for example, is a bittersweet romance drama; while his 2005 hit Drink-drank-drunk, just like his latest film, is a comedy. With The Great Magician, Yee again proves that he is pretty good at doing comedies, as most of the jokes work, and some of them are even very...

The good news for all Asian film lovers in Australia and New Zealand (myself included) is that the year is off to a flying start with the upcoming releases of two of the latest and biggest Hong Kong blockbusters in Australian and Nz cinemas. The first is The Great Magician from director Derek Yee with Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan and Zhou Xun in the cast. While director Yee's last film Triple Tap was very much a disappointment, when he is in good form, he gives us films like One Nite In Mongkok and (my favorite film) C'est La Vie, Mon Cheri. Plus this time, he is working with a top cast. So hopefully this will be another great film from the...

"I have to say, nowadays, anybody can be a singer," Teresa told sister-in-law Melissa Gorga on a recent episode of "Real Housewives of New Jersey," and while indeed true, the adjective "good" is conspicuously missing. "Kim Kardashian came out with a song," Teresa said in her weird spit-shrug way, and then attempted to put Gorga on the spot: "Yeah, Sing!"
Well now that time has come: the newest addition to the hit Bravo reality show has released her single, "On Display," a sort Janet Jackson-esque dance track without the dance. The song might actually have a shot if it didn't have a first-grader's idea of rhyme in place of actual lyrics:
"Cause I'm on display, display, display/ Each and every day, every day, every day."
Or be overly self-conscious about being watched:
"Everybody's waiting on me to fall."

"Real Housewives" star Melissa Gorga is following in Kim Zolciak , LuAnn de Lesseps and Danielle Staub's footsteps and releasing a new single. The New Jersey reality star/aspiring singer debuted her new single "On Display" on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Friday morning. Listen to it below: Fans of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" will recognize "On Display" as the single Melissa has been working on all season. Her husband Joe Gorga -- who's in construction management -- even built a recording studio in the basement of their home so Melissa could record her single at home. Like her fellow Housewives' tracks, "On Display" features a heavy dance beat and generous AutoTune use. At least she's actually singing, unlike LuAnn de Lessep's spoken word "songs." For the record, there's at least one "Housewives" star that can *actually* sing. Atlanta's Kandi Burruss was a member of the successful girl...

Countess LuAnn the musician is back. She's got a new song, "Chic C'est La Vie," and she invites all the ladies to take part in the music video shoot for the track.
Amazingly, the countess doesn't get the takers she had hoped for.
Sonja invites Cindy to her home for another try at friendship, but Cindy surprises her by taking a business call in the middle of breakfast, which ticks off Sonja.
Meanwhile, Ramona and Sonja head to Brooklyn for an art party the Van Kempens are throwing at their home. Sounds awesome, right? How did it all play out?

By the time shooting day came for LuAnn's new music video for 'Chic, C'est La Vie' on 'The Real Housewives of New York City' (Thu., 10Pm Et on Bravo), it was down to LuAnn, Jill and Kelly who were still willing to appear in the video.
The women, nevertheless had a lot of fun, though it seemed to drive the director crazy. The Countess hung on to some advice she'd received in the past to "just go in there and do it."
That meant no script and very little preparation. Which meant the director had to do a lot of heavy lifting to keep things running smoothly and making any sort of sense, particularly with Jill. It was great that Jill was so excited to be there, but she clearly was trying too hard and perhaps not taking it seriously enough at the same time.
