Off-beat flick about what happens after a man commits suicide.
Havan_IronOak27 July 2003
This bleak film recounts the moments after a man commits suicide in what appears to be a seedy hotel.

He soon awakens in a woods where he is pursued by unseen hunters and encounters a young woman who's not not completely revealing in her comments.

This is another of those films that screams "film school" and has just enough of an arty air that some folks are afraid to criticize it.

Nevertheless, this film proceeds with a haunting air and just enough unexplained detail to keep the viewer watching but ultimately fails to satisfy. Again, the audience is strung along by a story told in a cryptic manner that keeps you hanging in there waiting for some clarity but which, when it ends, leaves the viewer wondering why they didn't tune out sooner.

Beautifully composed short

I caught this film while watching the IFC short film block. Out of the four or five shorts shown, this was the one that actually engaged me. I thought the shots were beautiful and the color use was really interesting.

I do agree with the previous comment of it seeming art school. It did have its moments that were a little pretentious. The fact that the dialogue was cryptic or non-existant did keep the viewer from easily guessing what was going on, however, compared to the horrid dialogue in most of the other shorts, the fact that the writers were kept at bay i appreciated.

And although this type of story-telling has been done before, I found the whole film enjoyable. I really thought the composition in some of the shots was amazing. So, if you're flicking around looking for something to watch and you see this, tune in.

sophisticated art-house quickie

This is the type of film where you ask "What's going on?" while it's going on and then you ask "What just went on??" when it's over. But its striking look, perfect musical touch, and mysterious dialogue and plot will leave you haunted. It has a surreal and foreign feel executed with style and taste. The lack of explanation or obvious denouement enhances the otherworldly effect and compels the viewer to watch it again, whether on the screen or in the head.

Not nearly as artsy and confusing as the other comments make it out to be.

The ending (actually the entire film) is very easy to understand. Sure you watch it and don't really understand all that you are seeing while you are seeing it, but if you pay attention even a little bit it is all clear at the end. I would compare this film to the Twilight Zone in feel. It is more concerned with the artistic aspects and emotional impact of film making than the average Twilight Zone was, but it is basically the same type of story. And to think that the Twilight Zone was once not only a mainstream idea of storytelling, but a rather popular one at that. Now anything along those lines is seen as confusing and "artsy". What ever happened to being able to remember things seen over twenty minutes (the length of this film) and put two and two together on your own without being spoon fed every little bit of meaning directly? I, for one, would rather be treated like a more intelligent viewer than I may actually be than to instantly have it assumed that I am a dullard who can't figure out the meaning of a story without it being laid out plainly, and explained completely.
