A heart touching short film
mcenteea1 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The short film Lamb written by Emma Freeman is a heart touching film about friendship, poverty and love. It is no surprise it won best screen play, best original score and first prize at tropfest in 2002.The duration of the film is only seven minutes but those seven minutes cover all the topics brilliantly.

The main characters in the short film are a young boy and his father alongside their pet dog and the last living animal on their farm which is a lamb. The family lives on a farm in Australia in a very sandy dry area.

The family is very poor and struggle to have any food put on their table. Their house is very small and dark and their farm is very plain as they only have one lamb left on their farm.

The young boy in the film is blind and he uses a rope to walk around outside. At the end of this rope is his lamb. The boy loves this lamb and treats he treats him like he one of his friends. This shows friendship comes in all different shapes, sizes and species.

The acting and camera work in the film is exquisite. The lighting in the film is dark and this emphasises the poverty and hard life the family has. The close up shot on their food really shows that they can only eat the bare minimum . The crescendo in the end of the film fits in brilliantly and the background music adds a nice touch.

The only negatives I would have is that there could of been a little bit more dialogue in the script but besides from that I thought the short film was excellent.

Near the end of the film the father is faced with a difficult

Lamb review

It is no wonder that Emma Freeman's film was the 2002 winner of the world's largest short film festival .The story line is very deep and thought provoking, producing and overall is full of dull images ,conveying a very poor kind of setting.

The short film gives insight into the dark lives of a young blind boy and his father. They live in a very dark and dull looking house with a dog and a lamb. The young blind boy goes out ti the lamb everyday to pet it and give it affection, but the father has to make a very tough decision in order for them to survive.

I liked this movie because it shows that there are a lot of people in the world who are poor .It also shows the powerful friendship that a human can have with an animal.Seeing how caring, enjoyable and comforting the boy was to the animal .

I didn't like the music in this short film. Overall i don't think the soundtrack reached it's potential at all.

I like this short film although i thought the soundtrack was disappointing. I loved the way such a strong massage about friendship and poverty was put across. The dark and dull colors in the short film give a very sad and depressing effect witch made the story line so effective.

Lamb, a short film which won Tropfest 2002 and explores many touching themes and has a very emotional plot.

Written and directed by Emma Freeman, 'Lamb' was the 2002 winner of the world's largest short film festival, Tropfest. 'Lamb' explore many touching themes such as friendship and poverty. It will have you both smiling and tearing up during its seven minute duration. This short film gives insight to the life of a young, blind boy living with his farmer father in the rural countryside of Australia during a devastating drought. His father is struggling to feed himself and his son as his crops won't grow on the dehydrated land and the only animal left on his farm is a small lamb who is the lonely boy's only friend. The boy finds solace in the lamb and everyday spends time running his hands through the lambs soft wool. What lengths will the father go to in order to ensure that him and his son survive in this devastating time of crisis? The good points I found about this short film is that the score is very effective. The composer has done an excellent job in making scenes even more emotional with a very interesting soundtrack. The crescendo is very intense and you are always wondering what will happen next in the lives of the father and his son. The actors' performance's are excellent and the short film includes a lot of close-ups so the characters' emotions are even more visible to the viewers. The only bad point i found about this short film is that some scenes are emotional and somewhat dramatic which makes them hard to watch especially for young audiences. In conclusion, I rate this short film 'Lamb' a 9 star rating as it is emotional, explores a lot of touching themes, the acting is excellent and the score is very effective

lamb review
connorsl-717051 October 2019
The director of lamb must be very proud of herself on this short film as it won one of the biggest short film competitions .Allthough it is a heart touching story of a father trying his best to try and salvage what he can while there is a terribale drought ,and he doing his best for his young son who is blind . The young father must try his best to get as much food as possibale but the crops keep failing .The son has created a close bond to a little lamb wich the father has made a road like rope wich leadfs the little boy to his bestfriened . The sound track to this film is somehow AWFULL!! it is very depressing and i think it does not help with the short film! Allthough the sound track is not the grateest the seven minute duration that is very heart touching. The short film gives insight into the dark lives of a poor family. Of a farmer father and a blind boy. The blind boy has a strong freindship with a lamb until the farther gets into the picture

lamb,a short film which won tropfest 2002 and explores the theme of friendship
oladipof1 October 2019
Sometimes friendship comes in the most unexpected forms. The seven minute film centre around a farmer and his young son who finds solace in his pet lamb , the last living animal on their deserted farm. The short film gives insight into the dark times of a young blind boy and his farmer father going through a drought.. The boy finds comfort in one of their last animals .He becomes loyal friends with the animal and every day he plays with it .A tragedy soon knocks him down but redemption is at hand . The music in the background at some parts improve the mood of this short film, making it more dramatic or sad in some scenes. The colours are brighter in happy moments and add to the audiences emotion. Unfortunately ,the film slips off the rail a little in its later stages as it turns into a disaster .The dull lighting in some scenes ruins this as it is hard to see whats going on in the house etc. To conclude i think this is a really good short film and its no surprise it was the 2002 winner of the worlds largest short film festival ,Tropfest

It is no wonder that Emma Freeman's film was the 2002 winer of the world's largest short film festival, trop fest. Lamb explores themes such as friendship ad poverty, and will have you both smiling and tearing up during its seven minute duration The sort film gives insight into the dark lives of a young blind boy and his famer father...How will this family survive through the clrought? The story is about 1 family(father and his soon), that they live in a farm with a sheep and a dog. The boy was blind and every day he went outside with the sheep and spent hours and hours there The short film is very well done and the characters are very good. Music is a super important thing in short films. Music in this is super good. The landscape is very dark but it fits perfectly with with the story The only bad thing about this short film is that it would be very sad. There is no problem to put because everything is quite well done I think it is one of the best shorts I have seen. Nor is it that I have seen many but this is very good for everything

It is no wonder that Emma Freeman's film was the 2002 winer of the world's largest short film festival, tropfest. Lamb explores themes such as friendship ad poverty, and will have you both smiling and tearing up durng its seven minutes duration. "Lamb",the short film, gives us insight into the lives of a young blind boy and his farmer father. They both live in a farm shaped house with no electricity and hardly any food or water. All they have left is a scraggy dog and the boys best friend a baby lamb. The music is very effective as it is dull and depressing . It really sucks the audience in, especially during scenes of great intensity The actors performance are very well and great camera work . Overall i would rate this short film a 8 out of 10. i would recommend this short film for mature teenagers

A heart touching short film
morrina-288972 October 2019
There is a saying 'what goes up must come down.'When your life is going good at some stage it will have to go bad. For the main characters in lamb the bling boy and the farmer father it is the opposite. How many bad things have to happen in their life for it to go up?

Filmed in 2002 by Emma Freeman this 7 minute short film explores a lot of themes, such as friendship, betrayal l and guilt. Set in an Australian desert at the time of drought, what dilemmas a cure when the father of the blind boy realise that the boy's pet lamb is the last living creature on their farm. What risk will the father make to keep him and his son alive?

The visual images are capturing. The dull, dark colours inside the house show how poor they are add too the emotion. The mood of hopelessness, of endless days filled with poverty. The music is also very effective. it makes scene very emotional and hard to watch. There is a very effective crescendo in this film. The talented camerawork brings you into the film, helping you feel like you're one of the characters there. The angle of the camerawork is very impressive and the close - ups give you an insight into their lives, how the father is stressed and the boy sad but is very happy when he is with his lamb.

On the other hand, the performance of the two actors is very disappointing. Even though this is a short film I think some scenes could have been extended. I wonder how it won an award at tropfest 2002.

Overall, 'Lamb' is a very good short film with excellent visuals, amazing sound track but a massive let down with performance. I give 'Lamb' 8 stars.

how did this film win trophest?

It is a wonder that Emmas Freemans short film was the 2002 winner of the worlds largest short film festival, Trophest. "Lamb" explores themes such as friendship, sympathy, poverty and cruelty will have you on the edge of your seat both laughing and crying during the intense duration of the short film.

The short film gives insight into the dark and sad lives of a poor farmer and his his young blind son will their pet dog and lamb in a drought stricken countryside in Australia.

The music during the film is very intense during the film at certain parts which would have you on the edge of your seat holding in your breath afraid of what will happen. the colours give you a good insight of what it looked like to be poor in a drought stricken country in 2002. You will experience colours such as mustardy, creamy, dull, dark and sad colours.

However I do not think that the film is very suitable for young children with some intense seens.

''Lamb'' couldn't have been more intense and dramatic''
darcyj-494821 October 2019
Emma Freeman's emotion-packed film ''Lamb'' won the 2002 Tropefest movie festival. ''Lamb'' explores themes such as friendship and poverty, and will have you on the edge of your seat during the seven minute duration.

The short film gives insight into a poor father and his young blind son with barley any crops growing during the drought. They have to survive on very little. The only living animal left om the farm is a lamb, the boy's best friend, while their dog limps around weak from hunger.

What I really like about this film is how well Emma Freeman considered the characters costumes, the music and the setting. It really makes you believe that there is a bad drought and that the characters are in such poverty and without food, and that's what i like about Emma Freeman's work in ''Lamb'' it makes you think that it is happening right now, it makes you want to know what happens next...

There are many things to be criticized about ''Lamb''. The music in some scenes was very unsuited, it was like it didn't fit in some scenes in ''Lamb''. The scene where the father and son were having dinner, it looked very disgusting and if I were to be put in that situation I wouldn't eat the stew, I would rather starve, but maybe that is what Emma Freeman planned to succeed in the scene.

I really like the film. It's not the ''Hollywood made'' style but it's not too ''cringe'' to hate and I personally would give it 5 stars even though some scenes weren't comfortable to watch...

Saddest movie ever
ldunphy-076451 October 2019
It's a wonder that Emma Freemans film was the 2002 winner of the worlds largest short film "Tropfest"."Lamb" explores themes such as friendship and poverty, and will have you both smiling and tearing up during its seven minute duration. The short film gives insight into the dark lives of a young blind boy and his farmer father, living in a dull, dark and gloomy barn with their dog. They live in a part of Australia where there's a drought. The boy has a great friendship with the lamb, but in a shock turn of events the father will go to any cost to survive the drought. The good points in Lamb is that the setting is well portrayed. The dark and dull blacks and browns that dominate the world of the short film refleck the sad and hungry life of the boy and the farmer. The bad points is that there is a lot of gruesome scenes that can be hard to watch at times.I also think that the close ups add up to how gruesome the scenes are. Overall,Lamb is a sad and thouching short film with very gruesome scenes and a sad story.

It is a wonder that Emma Freeman's film was 2002 winner of the largest shot film festival ,Tropfest "lamb" explores themes such as friendship and poverty, and will have you both smiling and tearing up during its seven minute duration.

The short film gives insight into the dark lives of a young blind boy and his farmer father who are poor. How will this family survive.Sometimes friendship comes in the most unexpected forms. the short film you will watch, lamb, is set on rural farm in Australia during a drought. The plot is simple but powerful. The seven minute film centres around a farmer and his young son who finds living a solace in his pet lamb, the last living animal on their farm.

The music and theme is great because it really added both emotion and happiness to the film. The colours are brown, black and cream which really added to the fact that they are poor. This film would be really suitable for secondary schools. The angle of the camera is also very exposing of the characters expressions.

The only bad thing was that there could have a bit more talking as there was not much interaction as sometimes you don't understand whats happening.

So over all the short film was good but could of being better as it was very graphic in some scenes.I would give 'Lamb' three stars.

It is a wonder why the short film "Lamb" won the Trofest in 2002."Lamb" explores themes such as friendship and poverty, and will have you both tearing and smiling at the same time.

The short film gives insight into the dark lives of a poor family. Of a farmer father and a blind boy. The blind boy has a strong friendship with a lamb until the farther gets into the picture.

The music is great and very intense it will leave you on the edge of your seat ! The theme is also very good it has colours such as creme ,brown and gray. It shows how poor they are.

The only thing bad was that there could have been and bit more talking as there was not much communication . It"s difficult to get to know the characters because of this.

Over all, the short film was good but could have been better. I would give "Lamb" overall three stars.

Lamb is a short film that is directed byn emma freeman ,which shows the realationship between a father and son who are under alot of pressure, and how one decision affects lots of different people and changes the circumstances dramatically.Lamb is a short film that would leave you quite shocked. This short fim will leave you happy and sad all at the same time.

The short film is opened with a boy enjoying the small things in life, and his father who is a farmer struggling through a drought living in a dark dismal barn-like house which is surrounded by nothing but faded dry ,yellowand brown coloured feilds that stretchfor miles.Ther is not a drop of refreshing water in sight. The boy who is around 9 or 10 is blind which makes the film both dramatic and sad espically when his father is faced with a difficult decision. What will he do to survive.

Ireally enjoyed how the music really carries this filmand makes all the scences really over dramatic and accentuates the mood of each scence particulary in the final scence the music gets loader and more upbeat at each step the boy takes towards what he thinks is familiar but he will never really know ......

It is no wonder that Emma Freeman's film was the 2002 winner of the worlds largest short film festival, Tropfest. 'Lamb' exploresthemes such as friendship, poverty and will have you both smiling and tearing up during its seven minute duration. The short film gives insight into the dark lives of a young, little blind boy and his farmer father who are living in Austrailia at the time of the droughtwith no one around them . The son's best friend is a little lamb who he gose out to every day. Then one day the father dose something and betrays the son . There is notting wrong with this film. The boy looked like a sweet little boy with a loud and angry father. The poor farmer and his son wear the same clothes every day. They cannot grow crops in the time of the drought . It is set in the middle of a dessert in Austrailia. In this short film their is alot of close-ups and all the angles chatch everything. Unfortunatilly, the short film slips of the rails a little in the later stages as the score got more depressing and the scenes got darker. In one scene, there was animal cruelty. There was saddness in nearly all of the scenes. Still it was a good short film but I wouldn't recomend it. I won't watch it againn. I wouldn't give it ten out of ten.
