We asked Den Of Geek’s writers to recommend brilliant comedy shows that deserve to have more of a fuss made about them. Here they are...
Banging a drum about stuff we love is more or less our remit on Den Of Geek - hence what many readers have started referring to as the ‘inexplicably regular' appearance of Statham, squirrels and Harold Bishop from Neighbours on these pages.
To that end then, we asked our writers which comedy shows (past and present, UK or otherwise, on TV, radio, or online…) deserved more praise, and here are the ones they chose. You might already like them too, or you might discover something new to dig out and enjoy. That’s the fun of it.
Please note that this list isn’t ranked in any order, nor is it exhaustive. It’s compiled from the opinions of a group of different people,...

An arthouse cinema that 'balances a sense of arty affectation with a homey, accessible vibe'

Every week we invite our readers to tell us about where they go to watch films. This week it's the turn of Edwin Davies, who writes about film at A Mighty Fine Blog.
Location
Based opposite the train station in Sheffield, the Showroom manages to be right at the centre of the city yet just far enough away to feel like it's off the beaten track. That sense of being accessible but also outside the mainstream extends to the whole feel of the cinema, which balances a sense of arty affectation with a homey, accessible vibe.

Update: Deadline reveals that the film will shoot in July (leaving plenty of room for "Anna Karenina") with the film drawing comparisons to "Heat." Of the current generation of leading men, James McAvoy might be one of our favorites. We first noticed him doing sterling British TV work on top-quality projects like "Early Doors," "Shameless" and "State of Play," but he went on to prove his big-screen chops with a trio of strong, diverse performances in "Starter For Ten," "The Last King Of Scotland" and "Atonement." Since then, he's worked carefully across a broad range of projects--even in the unpleasant,…...

… but the Shallow Grave actor is considering a move into comedy after primal scream soul-baring of Lennon Naked
Back in 1994, when Christopher Eccleston was playing a psychotic chartered accountant in Shallow Grave, he spent the best part of a day in a working mortuary pretending to be dead. There wasn't enough money to recreate the mortuary in a studio and, anyway, director Danny Boyle wanted to keep it real. So Eccleston, then 30 and best known for playing Derek Bentley in Let Him Have It three years earlier, was put in a drawer with a Glaswegian member of the crew.
"I was stark bollock naked and the Glaswegian, who was dressed in a parka, Doc Martens and jeans, kept saying, 'Are we finished? 'Cos I'm fucking freezing, by the way.' And all this time, I'm lying not only naked but next to a head that had recently been fished out of the River Clyde.

Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver has admitted that she is terrified after deciding to return to the stage for the first time in 13 years. Cleaver, best known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw on the ITV1 show, is to appear in Marriages Made In Heaven at the Joshua Brooks pub in Princess Street, Manchester from tomorrow night. The 15-minute production will be performed for a short run alongside five other plays at the venue. Cleaver's ex-husband James Quinn, who appeared in the BBC sitcom Early Doors, will star opposite her. She told the Manchester Evening News: "I had a real hankering to go back to the theatre.
