If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

Exclusive: Blue Fox Entertainment announced it has acquired worldwide rights and will be launching sales on the sci-fi thriller Site at the upcoming American Film Market in November. The gripping and thought-provoking film is written and directed by the award-winning Jason Eric Perlman, who was recently named #4 in LA Weekly’s “Top 10 Entertainment Professionals to Watch in 2023.” His debut feature Threshold was released by Sony Pictures after a decorated festival run in 2017.
Blue Fox Entertainment is handling worldwide sales and will preview first look footage of the film for buyers at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). Blue Fox Entertainment’s US distribution division is planning a theatrical release for the film.
The film stars Jake McLaughlin, Arielle Kebbel, Theo Rossi, and Miki Ishikawa, and Yoson An.
In Site, Neil (Jake McLaughlin) experiences an inexplicable time distortion in an abandoned military test site while inspecting it with his business partner Garrison (Theo Rossi). Soon, Neil is having repeated traumatic flashes back to a WWII prison camp in China called Unit 731, which somehow holds the thread to his own unraveling present. Neil begins to realize that the past lives and events in this place of unspeakable brutality seem to mirror his own trauma with his son Wiley and his wife Elena (Arielle Kebbel). Desperate for answers, Neil enlists Naomi (Miki Ishikawa) to help him find the facility’s last surviving scientist. Ultimately, Neil awakens to a new redemptive responsibility, both within his own family and the greater society around him.
Site is produced by publicist and entrepreneur Benjamin Cooke, Sundance alum, Kelly Hayes, international businesswoman, Yvonne Supangkat, and Jason Eric Perlman.
Blue Fox Entertainment’s James Huntsman said, “Audiences are hungry for high quality science fiction thrillers, which have been scarce in the market recently. With Site, Jason and his talented cast and crew have created an exciting journey that has something relevant to say beneath the surface of the film.”
Director Jason Eric Perlman said, “We are thrilled to have this film beginning its journey in the viewing world. In this time of such unthinkable conflicts I believe it’s vital that creativity explores the interconnectedness of mankind, as well as the atrocities we are capable of inflicting upon one another. Site is intent upon doing both, but with the philosophical imperative that if we ignore history, or the darkness within each of us, we are doomed to repeat the same traumas over and over.
It has been an honor to work with our incredibly talented cast in bringing this story to life, and their commitment to the material elevates it to a remarkable plane. Our visionary crew is also to be credited with what I believe we’ve achieved. The cinematography of Eunah Lee and the brilliant production design of Gabor Norman were integral in the telling of this story to full potential. We are excited to team now with Blue Fox in launching this film into the world.”...

At one point, back in the noughties, it seemed like there was a mad craze for adapting Asian horror cinema for Western audiences. Beginning with the unexpected commercial and critical success of Gore Verbinski’s The Ring (based on Hideo Nakata’s Ringu and Koji Suzuki’s 1991 novel), the remake trend only grew but sadly not in quality. As pale imitators like The Eye, One Missed Call, Shutter and The Uninvited poured in, one of the most successful was The Grudge in 2004. Based on Takashi Shimizu’s Ju-On: The Grudge (2002), this remake was also directed by Shimizu and went on to earn mixed reviews but a near $200 million haul worldwide. Naturally a sequel followed in the puzzling The Grudge 2 (also from Shimizu) and even worse straight-to-disc film The Grudge 3. I mention this history for two reasons. One because this new film simply titled The Grudge was initially a...

The “Ju-On” movies are among the most influential and prolific horror franchises of the last 30 years, but good luck trying to watch them all. Created by Takashi Shimizu, they tell the story of a murder so horrendously violent and hateful that it leaves a house horrifically cursed, so that anyone who enters it takes the evil with them, like a supernatural virus. What began as a couple of short films and TV movies eventually became a full-blown feature film franchise, which then led to a hit American remake franchise, and recently a showdown spin-off in which the ghosts from “The Grudge” fight the little girl from the original “The Ring.”
But since most of the “Ju-On” movies are currently hard to find in America, the remakes are holding down the fort for the series. With a new “The Grudge” in theaters, let’s see how the American films rank up against each other.

NBC is bringing the murky murder mystery of The Bone Collector to television with a premium script – adapting Deaver’s original 1997 novel of the same name – by the duo of VJ Boyd and Mark Bianculli. The series – a production of Universal Television and Sony Pictures Television in association with Keshet Studios – will see the scribes joined by executive producers in Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, and Rachel Kaplan.

In true popcorn-season form, it’ll be a battle of the sequels at the domestic box office this weekend.
Universal’s “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is taking a chance at the top spot against fellow newcomers “The Equalizer 2” and “Unfriended: Dark Web.”
The follow-up to 2008’s jukebox musical “Mamma Mia!” is tracking for a three-day tally between $30 million and $36 million when it opens in over 3,200 locations. A $30 million-plus debut would be a jump on its predecessor’s $27 million start. Much like the hit Broadway musical it was based on, “Mamma Mia” became a box office smash, earning $615 million worldwide on a $52 million budget. Though it pocketed an impressive $144 million in North America, “Mamma Mia” found even greater success overseas, where Swedish pop group Abba has a huge following. At the time, it was the highest-grossing film directed by a woman (Phyllida Lloyd), until it was surpassed by...

“Unfriended” only cost $1 million to make and grossed $64 million, which is to say that a sequel was inevitable. Blumhouse has delivered three years later, with “Unfriended: Dark Web” premiering at South by Southwest a few months back. Watch the found-footage horror film’s first trailer below.
“Dark Web” concerns a teenager (Colin Woodell) who learns that his new laptop may have been stolen — and that its previous owner is watching his every move. In his SXSW review, IndieWire’s Eric Kohn wrote that the film — which, like its predecessor, takes place entirely on a desktop computer — “manages to turn the same gimmick into another jittery ride” and predicted that more “desktop thrillers” will be arriving soon.
Stephen Susco makes his directorial debut with the film after priving his horror bona fides by writing “The Grudge,” “The Grudge 2,” and “Texas Chainsaw 3D.” Betty Gabriel of “Get Out” and Rebecca Rittenhouse...

A classic horror trope: Secure, private spaces can be infiltrated by dreadful forces and when danger lurks in showers, bedrooms, and suburban neighborhoods, nothing’s really safe. Filmmakers inevitably came for the computer screen and that was 2014’s “Unfriended,” a new-age found-footage horror movie unfolding exclusively on a desktop screen. The unexpected commercial hit found a group of friends dealing with a ghostly threat over frantic Skype conversations and Facebook chats, reinventing old chills for the social media age. Made on the cheap and plugged into a millennial vernacular, it was only a matter of time before there was a sequel.

Shintaro Shimosawa, the producer of "The Grudge" and "The Grudge 2" and TV shows "The Following" and "Intelligence," has ventured behind the camera to make his directorial debut. The upside is that he has a helluva cast to work with. The downside is that the result is "Misconduct." Read More: The Curse Continues: 'The Grudge Gets Rebooted By Sam Raimi Starring Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Alice Eve and Julia Stiles, what starts out looking like a John Grisham-y legal thriller turns into a soap opera style tale of blackmail, deception, and a man accused of a crime he didn't commit. The prolific Teresa Palmer, who has six films in the can readying for release (including John Hillcoat crime drama Triple 9 and Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups), just signed on for the James Wan-produced horror pic Lights Out.
In a return to the horror genre, where she first made an impression in 2006’s The Grudge 2, Palmer will topline as an imperilled mother. Gabriel Bateman (CBS’ Stalker) was previously announced to be taking on the role of the young son in a family haunted by a supernatural entity that can only be seen in the dark. With everyone at risk, one family member is forced to battle the evil spirit head on.
David F. Sandberg will make his directorial debut on the pic, adapting his terrifying short of the same name. Lawrence Grey and Eric A. Heisserer are attached as producers, with Heisserer scripting an expansion of Sandberg’s story.

After seeing the trailer for Warm Bodies (2013), I made a mental note to steer clear of it in movie theaters. Zombies-- although they have had their popularity throughout horror history-- have become significantly trendy within the horror community for the past decade with movies such as 28 Weeks Later (2007), Zombieland (2009), and Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (2012). By the time the third season of The Walking Dead aired in 2012, it was clear that the end of the current zombie craze could be upon us. I suspected that Warm Bodies would be the last nail in the coffin of what started out as a delightfully gory ride.
I’m not entirely sure why I expected Warm Bodies to be such a failure. Perhaps I feared that it would be another teen romance movie with just a dash of horror elements. Or maybe I thought the leading lady, Teresa Palmer,...

More freaky-balls horror movies on the way: The Grudge is getting a reboot. According to Deadline, Midnight Meat Train screenwriter Jeff Buhler has been tapped to write the new installment in the franchise, which will be the first American Grudge movie since 2009. The Grudge, which spawned The Grudge 2 and The Grudge 3, is itself a remake of the Japanese horror movie Ju-on: The Grudge, which is the third of seven movies in the Ju-On franchise. That's a lot of Grudge! Plenty of Grudge to go around.

Fans of Japanese horror director Takashi Shimizu have been waiting quite a while for his return to English language cinema. And while I.m referring in part to it being 7 years since The Grudge 2 was released, this has more to do with his upcoming haunted plane flick 7500, which as been presumably gathering metaphorical dust over at CBS Films, who delayed the film.s 2012 release without following it up with a date that stuck. Coming off a few very slow weekends, the box office should recover a bit in the first weekend of March thanks to four new nationwide releases.Unfortunately, the same weekend last year saw the arrival of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and Project X, which combined to earn over $90 million through their first three days. Even if Jack the Giant Slayer, 21 and Over and The Last Exorcism Part II all overperform, there's no way they'll match that number, which means this will be the latest 2013 weekend that lags behind its 2012 equivalent.Jack the Giant Slayer is poised to open in first place this weekend, though it probably won't earn enough to avoid being dubbed the first big-budget disaster of 2013. The $195 million fantasy adventure*loosely based on the "Jack and the Beanstalk" folktale*has been plagued by issues for what feels like years now. Directed by X-Men's Bryan Singer, the...

Joe: Retaliation should deliver a late-month boost. Even if all of those movies over-perform, though, there's still no chance that March 2013 tops March 2012's record $943 million (led by The Hunger Games and The Lorax). March 1Four new nationwide releases hit theaters on the first weekend of March, though each one seems plagued by some kind of issue. The biggest one*and also the most problematic*is Jack the Giant Slayer, a mega-budget fantasy movie directed by X-Men's Bryan Singer. Originally titled Jack the Giant Killer and slated for June 2012, the movie was unceremoniously pushed...
