Failing to win the Manhunt: The Search for America’s Most Gorgeous Male Model reality show competition in 2004 may have been the best thing that could have happened to Matt Lanter, because between that year and 2006 he had recurring or starring roles in the series Point Pleasant, Commander in Chief, Heroes, and Shark. Besides guest roles, he’d star in a number of films, voiced the character of Aquaman in a variety of animated productions from Warner Bros/DC Comics and was a series regular on the cult favorite Timeless.
All of that was eclipsed, however, by his voicing the character of Anakin Skywalker on the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which he began doing in 2008 and continues to do periodically. Now he is taking on the role of George Hutchence, aka Skyfox, on Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy, which will elevate him even higher...

This week on Myth or Monster, author Patrick Rothfuss goes in search of the local legend that has inspired a book series, appeared in The X-Files and even has a festival of its own…the Mothman. Rothfuss is keen to find out more about the legend of the Mothman, especially as a recent sighting has renewed local interest in this fascinating local folktale. The reports of sightings first emerged in West Virginia near Charleston and Point Pleasant back in 1966 and 1967. The first one to be published in the press was a sighting by Roger and Linda Scarberry who were out...read more...

The girls of Jersey Shore sure have changed a lot from their time on MTV's popular reality series -- and it looks like some of the show's biggest names are hanging out again to film an as-of-yet unannounced TV project.
Back in late June, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, and Deena Cortese all got together in Point Pleasant Beach and Asbury Park in New Jersey, where they were followed by camera crews, the Asbury Park Press reported last week.
However, the App also reported that the mini-reunion wasn't organized by MTV, and permits for the project were obtained by a different production company than the original reality series -- which means it may not be not an official Jersey Shore reunion series.

40 Percent of Boardwalk Games Are Rigged, NJ Attorney General Finds – But He's Trying to Change That
If you feel like those carnival games at the Jersey Shore are impossible to win, you’re right — but the state attorney general is working to change that.
Officials have begun an initiative to inspect arcades along New Jersey boardwalks, ensuring the house doesn’t have an unfair advantage preventing players from bringing home a prize.
“These games of chance, in order for it to be fun, people actually have to have a chance of winning,” state Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino told reporters, according to the Asbury Park Press. “If you don’t have a chance of winning, that’s just not playing fair.

Welcome to the "Point Pleasant Police Department," this time starring Jimmy Fallon and Bill Hader as two spitting cops. This has to be our favorite recurring "Tonight Show" skit of all time, so watch it and make your Friday that much better.
Amy Schumer just got nominated for all the Emmy Awards ever, so she swung by "Late Night" to celebrate. By which we mean she talked about how she lives alone and is "super lonely." But like, in a funny way, because this is Amy Schumer.
Amy was also honored at the Time 100 Gala, and she spoke to Seth about how massively unimportant she is. Please, we beg to differ.

Bill Hader stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night, where he kind of, sort of celebrated Throwback Thursday. When we say kind of, we mean the two "threw it back" to a fake cop show they used to star in together, called Point Pleasant Police Department. If the name of the show is any indication, there are a lot of hard P sounds, and there's a lot of spitting. Watch the hilarious video above, and you'll find just as much trouble keeping a straight face as Jimmy and Bill do.

There's something more chilling about movies based on true events. Knowing that at least some version of what you're seeing on the screen actually happened in real life makes the movie more powerful. With the upcoming release of The Quiet Ones, we decided to reminisce about other movies based on horrific real life events.
The Quiet Ones is inspired by a true story of a university experiment done on a young girl that goes horribly, horribly wrong, so we focused on movies based on claims of supernatural true events.
There is a huge list of honorable mentions in this category. We could even break it down into sub-categories, like movies based on the antics of Ed Gein: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Silence of the Lambs, Psycho and Deranged. True crime reenactments: In Cold Blood, Helter Skelter and Zodiac just to name a few of the best. Even real...

They both love a good laugh, and last night (October 21) Alec Baldwin dropped by “Late Night” for some crazy cop fun with Jimmy Fallon.
During his segment on the show, the “30 Rock” hunk pretended that he and the NBC host had starred together on a police drama back in the 1980s.
Using the “Point Pleasant Police Department” moniker, Alec and Jimmy posed as officers of the law and essentially spat food all over the set.
Of their tendency for snacking on the job, Baldwin joked, “We get into a lot of, you know, messy situations!”

Did you know that Jimmy Fallon and Alec Baldwin starred in their own 1980s cop drama, "Point Pleasant Police Department"? Well, that's because they didn't. However, they did pretend to be in one for a "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" sketch.
The clips shown were light on the drama, but heavy on them spitting food in each other's faces. Not really an effective way to fight crime, but the audience was having a wonderful time.
By the end of the third clip, there wasn't anything they hadn't spit on each other. From apples, to cheese in a can, rice cakes. The best bit was their soda duel, Mr. Pibb vs. Dr. Pepper.

Talk about a spit-take.
Alec Baldwin stopped by Monday night’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and the duo revealed some “found footage” of their late, questionably great ’80s cop sitcom, Point Pleasant Police Department.
“We get into a lot of, you know, messy situations,” Baldwin teased as Fallon rolled the clip.
And Baldwin’s right, though the two don’t solve any crimes. Instead, they snack — a lot — and, well, let’s just say they get into each other’s faces. Perhaps they were simply trying to enunciate?

What’s funnier than Jimmy Fallon and Alec Baldwin wearing fake mustaches in cop outfits? Spitting food in each other’s faces. On Monday’s “Late Night,” the two showed off three clips from their ’80s cop show, “Point Pleasant Police Department,” in which Fallon and Baldwin star as a pair of cops who can’t stop eating — and can’t stop pronouncing their Ps. We return with the latest edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes release details for A Resurrection, the first teaser trailer for Ten, a review of Smiley, and much more:
First Teaser Trailer for Ten: “Ten is a collectivist, post-exploitation psychological thriller devised as a possible explanation for the events of the 1972 Spektor Island Massacre. On a cold December afternoon, ten women arrive at a mansion on Spektor Island, famed for years of reported hauntings and strange activities. Will they live through the night?
The all-female cast film is a response to exploitation, slasher, and thriller films, with particular focus on the kind of storytelling prominent in b-movies and genre films from the 1950s to the 1980s. It explores the meaning and fluidity of identity and takes a number of surprising turns, paying homage to filmmakers and producers such as Alfred Hitchcock,...

Snooki & JWoww has been granted a New Jersey filming permit following a series of rejections. The MTV reality series was recently blocked from shooting scenes for the second season in both Point Pleasant Beach and Toms River. Point Pleasant's borough councilman William Mayer justified the ruling by saying Snooki & JWoww's production is "not what [the town needs] at this point", while Toms River has long banned shooting within its borders. Manchester, NJ Mayor Michael Fressola has now disclosed to The Asbury Park Press that Snooki & JWoww will move its (more)...

Manchester Township, N.J. -- Snooki and JWoww have finally found a New Jersey town that will let them tape the second season of their reality show.
He says there's nothing in local law to keep Jennifer "JWoww" Farley and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi from filming there.
In recent weeks, Point Pleasant Beach nixed taping there, and 495 Productions, which produces the show, decided against accepting conditions from local officials in Morristown.
Manchester Mayor Michael Fressola says he just wants the reality show stars to be good neighbors and obey the police department.

Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. -- The Jersey shore town that tried to close its bars early and restricts overnight parking has said no to "Snooki & JWoww."
The Point Pleasant Beach Council unanimously voted against 495 Productions' request to tape the "Jersey Shore" spinoff featuring Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jennifer "JWoww" Farley.
The request says the cast would be living outside the town.
The state's top liquor regulator is blocking the town from imposing a midnight bar closing. The time and overnight parking restrictions are designed to reduce noise near the beachfront.
Nearby Toms River also turned down the MTV reality series.

Snooki & JWoww has reportedly been refused permission to film in two New Jersey towns. The MTV show, a Jersey Shore spinoff featuring Nicole Polizzi and Jenni Farley, was recently renewed for a second season. However, the Borough Council at Point Pleasant Beach voted unanimously to refuse the show permission to film there, The Asbury Park Press says. Councilman William Mayer commented that it was "not what we need at this point", while the town's mayor Vincent Barrella suggested that the council made "a very wise decision". The show's production company 495 Productions originally revealed in their filming request that the cast would live outside of Point Pleasant, but would be shooting in locations throughout the borough (more)...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. How do you put that much action down on...

On "American Idol," we pick things back up with Adam Brock, whom the judges have really been putting through the wringer as he cries and cries and they keep peppering him with questions. After all this, he has to be through right? And then, yes, he is.
Jeremy Rosado is next and frankly, we've never been in love with him. We think he could get cut and that'd be Ok. But then, his final performance is pretty great. Hmm. That's a tough one. It makes J.Lo bounce up and down like she's having a fit. At his final judging, J.Lo says they watched him "vividly," which .... huh. And then she misuses "transcendental." She means "transcendent," we're pretty sure.
Now we have Shannon Magrane, who sings "The Trouble With Love" for her final performance, which is a great song, and she does really well on it. We'd like to see her make it,...

"American Idol" revealed its final 10 semifinalists Thursday (February 23), rounding out the Top 24 that will compete for America's votes during season 11's live episodes, which begin next week.
The remaining 10 contestants were chosen from the pool of 42 sent to Las Vegas to compete for the chance to perform on the live shows. The first 14, including Heejun Han (Heejun Han!), were unveiled during Wednesday's episode.
Thursday's show picked up with the cliffhanger from Wednesday, regarding the fate of 27-year-old Adam Brock. The teary-eyed Brock made it, of course; "American Idol" can be cruel (see last week's brutal "Gotcha!" twist), but it's not cruel enough to let a contestant hang in the balance for a full day and then not let him through.
