"Are you hunting this thing?!" Brainstorm Media has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror movie called Consumed, the latest from the genre filmmaker Mitchell Altieri. It's set for a direct-to-vod release in August later this summer if anyone's curious. This horror is the new creature feature from The Butcher Brothers – also known as director / producer Mitchell Altieri and producer Phil Flores – and it stars Courtney Halverson, Mark Famiglietti, and Devon Sawa. Consumed is a horror thriller that follows a married couple out camping who encounter something horrifying. Trapped between a madman (played by Sawa) seeking revenge and a skin-stealing monster, a married couple must find the strength to fight and make it out of the woods alive. There's a nice cosmic sci-fi horror tinge to this trailer, with a creepy tease of the gross as monster that's in it. // Continue Reading ›...

A recent documentary about caregiving for frail family members was called “It’s Not a Burden,” but that cheerful attitude isn’t shared by the principal figures in “My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To.” They’re adult siblings tethered to a reclusive existence because one of them has a wee abnormality, which demands flesh blood from unfortunate victims the others must scrounge up for him.
Placing more emphasis on dysfunctional domestic drama than thrills, Jonathan Cuartas’ Utah-shot first feature may be too low-key for mainstream horror fans. So: We need to talk about the Teens. The decade that’s about to end. The one that began with Katy Perry doing an unironic Kenny G revival and is ending with Kanye West doing an unironic Kenny G revival. A decade full of iconic stars: Beyoncé, Taylor, Rihanna, Kendrick, Kacey, Robyn, Cardi, Lorde. But there’s a question haunting the Twenty-Teens: Was this a decade or not? It’s certainly been an era — no question about that. The Teens were loaded with eras, trends, moments, stories, generations, heroes, villains.

Don’t go around chasing monsters, because they might be real.
In Victor Mathieu’s directorial debut, The Monster Project is a very creative and scary film presented in the first-person point of view.
It follows a group of aspiring horror filmmakers, eager to raise their YouTube subscriber count, who post an online casting call for “real life” monsters to interview for their documentary. They find three participants and choose to film them sharing their haunted experiences in a mansion in the woods on the night of a lunar eclipse.
The film stars Toby Hemingway, Justin Bruening, Murielle Zuker, Jamal Quezaire, Yvonne Zima, Steven Flores and Shiori Ideta.
Lrm had an exclusive phone interview with Victor Mathieu for The Monster Project. Being a monster lover, he extensively talked about making these creatures come to life and the found footage style of filming in particular with night vision.

One look at the image above and you’d be forgiven for expecting the accompanying film to be something along the lines of 8Mm 3: Shaving Leather, but looks can often be deceiving. A Beginners Guide to Snuff is actually a dark comedy, and this synopsis should clarify if it’s dark or comedic enough for your own personal tastes. Mitchell Altieri (The Hamiltons, The Violent Kind, Holy Ghost People) channels the filmmakers of the ’70s and ’80s in this homage to splatter exploitation films. Two brothers, desperate to break into the world of television and film, decide to enter a horror movie contest. And what could be more horrifying than the elusive snuff film? Of course, they won’t actually kill someone on camera—all they’re going to do is kidnap an actress, torture her, and make her think she’s going to die. What could possibly go wrong? Charming...

Just a few weeks ago, Mitchell Altieri's (one half of The Butcher Brothers) Holy Ghost People (review) celebrated its world premiere at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival.
Starring Emma Greenwell, Joe Egender, Brendan McCarthy, Cameron Richardson and Don Harvey, Holy Ghost People follows a young girl named Charlotte (Greenwell) who enlists the help of an ex-Marine (McCarthy) in locating her missing sister, who last contacted her while living on a religious compound tucked away in the Appalachian Mountains.
Holy Ghost People was co-written by Altieri, Phil Flores (the other half of The Butcher Brothers), Egender and Kevin Artigue. Dread Central recently chatted with both Altieri and Flores about their latest collaboration and their experiences working with their cast in the mountains of Tennessee. The duo also discussed their next feature project, Raised by Wolves, which is currently being wrapped up in post-production.

It was only a matter of time before the filmmaking team known as "The Butcher Brothers" would drop the slightly silly moniker and start crediting themselves as normal guys, and it only seems fitting that Mitch Altieri and Phil Flores would choose to do it with a film like Holy Ghost People. The duo has shown some skill and (better yet) improvement with each successive movie -- The Hamiltons, The Violent Kind, The Thompsons (and yes I left out April Fools Day to be kind) -- but their latest is easily their most complete, cohesive, and compelling thriller yet.
The simple gritty film works as both a dramatic piece and a thriller at the same time, and tonally it seems to borrow a little from the early indie films of David Gordon Green, which is meant as a compliment to all involved. At its best moments Holy Ghost People provides...

In this psychological thriller, nineteen-year old Charlotte enlists the help of alcoholic ex-Marine Wayne to find her estranged sister who has gone missing deep in the Appalachian Mountains. Their search leads them to the Church of One Accord and an enigmatic snake-handling preacher named Brother Billy, who’s devoted congregation of outcasts knowingly risk injury or death seeking salvation in the Holy Ghost. What Wayne and Charlotte uncover during their time on the mountain - about themselves and the nature of faith - will shake them to their core, as the mystery of Charlotte’s sister and her fate unravels…

Let’s face it… vampires have been done to death. Whether it’s the hundreds of Dracula films, the Twilight franchise or True Blood and The Vampire Diaries on TV, the fanged ones have had their time in the sun. Back in 2006, the independent feature titled The Hamiltons was released as part of the After Dark Horror Festival.
Having watched almost every entry in the After Dark series up to that point, I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Now some six years later, directors “The Butcher Brothers” (Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores) have returned with most of the first film’s cast to give us The Thompsons, the sequel to The Hamiltons.
Picking up after a particularly unpleasant event between the two films (dramatized here for exposition), The Hamiltons have changed their name yet again, to The Thompsons and leave for England fleeing the law.

A sequel to The Hamiltons, The Thompsons is an indie horror film directed by Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores aka the Butcher Brothers, which premiered at the London FrightFest Film Festival on August 26th, 2012.
We have an exclusive clip if you’re interested learning more about a sequel to 2006s fugitive vampire clan movie, which is being described as ‘Twilight meets Tarantino’.
Now available on DVD and Blu-ray, a movie about pretty teenage vampires stars Corey Knauf, Samuel Child, Joseph McKelheer, Mackenzie Firgens, Ryan Hartwig, Elizabeth Henstridge, Sean Browne, and Tim Holloway.
The effects are a mixture of practical and digital and have been upgraded from the original. However, the action sequences are still very unrealistic, as well as the fight scenes were poorly put together.
Check out the exclusive clip along with the official trailer and cover art below.

I may have been a little too tough on the 2007 indie vampire flick The Hamiltons. Reviewing it for another website, I said this: "Feeling more like an angsty indie drama than any sort of horrific piece of cinema, the movie is jam-packed with all the things that make 'homemade' movies so irritating: Clumsy screenwriting, wooden acting, and a sense of self-importance run rampant throughout The Hamiltons. Not even the few moments of grim humor and bloodletting can salvage the flick's leaden pacing and overbaked narrative."
Yikes. Pretty rough. And then once co-directors Mitch Altieri and Phil Flores presented us with April Fools Day (2008) and The Violent Kind (2010), I figured I would just leave the "Butcher Brothers" to their fans and focus on indie horror films I actually enjoyed. So here's some good news for all involved: The Thompsons (aka The Hamiltons Part 2, although you need not have seen (or liked!

Directors/writers: The Butcher Brothers (Mitchell Altieri, Phil Flores). Cast: Cory Knauf, Samuel Child, Elizabeth Henstridge, Daniel O'Meara, Mackenzie Firgens, Ryan Hartwig, Sean Browne, Tom Holloway, Joseph McKelheer, and Selina Giles. The Thompsons is a sequel to the 2006 film The Hamiltons. Both films deal with a vampire clan in search of ever more blood to drink. This reviewer is unfamiliar with the first film, but this second title can be seen on its own. Centrally, The Thompsons is a story of Francis (Cory Knauf). His voice over narration guides the story from the United States over to the United Kingdom. His journey is full of violence with his brothers and sisters looking for aid for the fallen Lenny (Ryan Hartwig). They do not find help, but they do find a malevolent vampire clan bent on destroying them. The Butcher Brothers (Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores) have created a fantastic tale...

We're starting to hear the name XLrator Media a lot lately, and with good reason: They've been snapping up primo horror properties left and right! Today they announced some VOD/DVD release dates we've been waiting for.
First out of the gate, and currently playing on VOD since November 2nd, is Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes (review here). The film is directed by Corey Grant and stars Drew Rausch, Rich McDonald, Ashley Wood, Noah Weisberg, and Frank Ashmore. Look for it on DVD beginning February 5, 2013.
Synopsis
After a "Bigfoot Hunter" claims to possess the body of a dead Sasquatch, a disgraced investigative journalist stakes his comeback -- and the lives of his documentary film crew -- on proving the find to be a hoax.
Next is The Thompson, The Butcher Brothers' sequel to The Hamiltons, for which all the originals -- Cory Knauf, Samuel Child, Joseph McKelheer, and Mackenzie Firgens -- return.
