Could you describe the plot of the 2001 Julia Stiles movie "Save the Last Dance" while simultaneously performing Julia Stiles' final dance from the 2001 Julia Stiles movie "Save the Last Dance"? Not many people can answer "yes" to this questions, but one person who can is "Saturday Night Live" cast member Chloe Fineman, who did just that on this weekend's episode. She was even joined for the final portion of the dance by Julia Stiles herself, in a surprise cameo.
"Save the Last Dance" received mixed reviews when it was first released, and in the two decades since the "street ballet" dance that Stiles' character performs in her successful audition for Juilliard has become a recurring target of internet mockery. Still, whether you love, hate, or have never seen "Save the Last Dance," there's no denying that its $131.7 million box office gross helped reignite the Hollywood trend of dance movies. Without "Save the Last Dance,...

I’ve always had difficulty understanding where I fit in Black History Month. What do I represent? What communities do I belong to? And are they reflected in the narrative of the celebration? I think about the many unsung Black women who’ve paved the way throughout history, like Pauli Murray who spoke up for civil rights and the rights of Black queer women specifically. The truth is that only recently have Black women been given the space to be seen, heard and valued, which is why it’s now more important than ever to celebrate the fullness of what it means to be a Black woman.
A huge part of my struggle to own and reconcile my identity as a Black woman stemmed from how I saw myself through theater, TV, and movies. I grew up in a predominantly white household where I consumed all the classic films of...

It's the end of an era, and it's never easy to say goodbye.
Netflix's original romantic comedies The Kissing Booth and To All the Boys were popular since they began in 2018, but both high-school rom-coms closed out their adventures this year.
Based on teenage writer Beth Reekle's novels, The Kissing Booth franchise has been a hit. In the first two Netflix films, we watched Noah and Elle's secret love affair and how they dealt with long-distance when tempted with other crushes.
In The Kissing Booth 3, Elle Evans made one of the hardest decisions of her life and chose where to attend college and broke one of the Flynn brothers' hearts.
Picking up around two months after The Kissing Booth 2, a series of romantic montages caught us up on the lives of Noah and Elle and Lee and Rachel before heading into the film's main arc.

The fifth edition of EstAsia, a film festival in Reggio Emilia, Italy, dedicated to Asian culture, will begin on June 14, after a year of break due to the covid-19 epidemic.
The series of screenings aims to address, from a different angle, the current problems linked to interculturality and integration. Not a festival aimed only at the fanbase and the professionals therefore, but a moment of involvement and dialogue with the foreign communities present in the provincial and regional area.
The Golden Kaiju, a prize created by the artist Hu-Be, will be assigned this year by a jury composed of Nicola Cupperi (film critic), Lara Ferrari (journalist) and Xu Ying (communication professor at Renmin University in Beijing and Chinese director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Bologna). Then there will be the Audience Award and the Youth Award, allocated by a jury made up of students from the Ariosto Spallanzani High School.

Abbott & Costello perform at full strength in this very good, very silly jungle safari comedy. It’s definitely for kids and nostalgic fans — with equal parts slapstick, cornball repetitive vaudeville gags, and Lou Costello’s weirdly endearing infantile schtick. An impressively beautiful restoration has pulled it back from the pit of Public Domain ugliness. Plus ClassicFlix & the 3-D Archive appoint this 2-D movie with a tall stack of creative, relevant extras.

Producer Billy Peterson has formed a new production company, Racing Green Pictures, and announced production on “Seacole,” his first feature with the banner.
The film will star Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Belle”) and Sam Worthington (“Avatar”). It centers on a Mary Seacole, a pioneering Jamaican nurse who cared for wounded British soldiers during the Crimean War and found herself at odds with Florence Nightingale.
Racing Green Pictures says it is looking to back prestige films, many of which will have strong social messages. Peterson, the producer of the documentary “Shenandoah” and the dramedy “Ping Pong Summer,” also founded and led several film related entities such as Epic Match Media.
Along with Mbatha-Raw and Worthington, the cast includes Sylvia Hoeks (“Blade Runner: 2049”) and Sean Delaney (“Killing Eve”). Charlie Stratton (“In Secret”) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dianne Houston (“Take the Lead”) and Marnie Dickens (“Ripper Street”). Academy Award nominee Brunson Green...

Mwm Studios is joining poet-playwright Marcus Gardley on the upcoming film adaptation of his play “The House That Will Not Stand.”
Mwm producers Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane and producer Diane Nabatoff are on board Gardley’s historical comic drama. The play won Gardley the 2015 Glickman Award and was a finalist for the 2015 Kennedy Prize.
Set in Fauberg Treme in New Orleans in 1813, “The House That Will Not Stand” is loosely adapted from Garcia Lorca’s “House of Bernalda Alba” and examines the lives of the free women of color who became millionaires within the system of plaçage (the common-law marriages of white men and black Creole women) and fought against racial oppression.
“I am so excited to be working with Diane and the Mwm team to transform ‘The House That Will Not Stand’ into a film,” said Gardley. “I can’t wait to re-visit these characters and share more of their lives and world.

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Sundayfour bills designed to toughen the state’s enforcement of sexual harassment laws and make it easier for victims to pursue civil claims. The Golden State also enacted a law mandating that public companies based in California have at least one female board member by the end of next year.
The bills were part of a package heavily supported by entertainment industry figures in response to the outpouring of sexual misconduct claims during the past year. One component of the package that did not make it all the way to the governor’s signature was a bid to ban arbitration clauses in employment agreements — a common feature in entertainment industry contracts that has help shield harassment cases from public view.
Actors Rosanna Arquette, Mira Sorvino and Chantal Cousineau were among the industry players who lobbied for the legislation, dubbed the “Take the Lead...

It's Jenna Dewan-Tatum's birthday! The gorgeous actress turned 37 today, but she doesn't look a day older than when she got her start in the industry. Now, you may be thinking that was when she took on her major role in Step Up alongside her now-hubby Channing Tatum, but Jenna was deep in the entertainment world far before that. She danced competitively her whole life and eventually became a backup dancer for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson and Christina Aguilera in the early 2000s. She went on to dance her way through several music videos, television shows and movies, like 2006's Take the Lead, all before she landed Step Up in...

Becoming an adult is as tough a prospect as they come. Already on the edges of both adolescence and adulthood, being a teen is both a deeply exciting portion of one’s life, as well as a profoundly troubling one. Friends are coming and going, more freedom and thus more responsibility and a future in the “real world” that’s coming on like a speeding train, a lot is thrust on the shoulders of young adults, and sometimes these shoulders buckle under the weight.
Take the lead character in Lou Howe’s debut feature, Gabriel, for example.
Gabriel tells the story of a young man, our titular hero if you will, who is at a tipping point of sorts. Following his father’s suicide, things in his life are tied into knots, leading him to take drastic measures. Steadfast in his belief that his ex-girlfriend is anxiously awaiting his return...

Hilla Medalia captures ballroom dancer Pierre Dulaine as he uses fancy footwork to bring together Palestinian and Jewish children
Hilla Medalia’s modest, watchable documentary is about Pierre Dulaine, a ballroom dancer and teacher whose work with underprivileged New York schoolchildren was the inspiration for a fiction feature, Take the Lead (2006) starring Antonio Banderas as Pierre. This film is about Dulaine’s return to Jaffa, the city of his birth, and his attempt to set up a new school dance programme to get Jewish and Palestinian children to come together for the first time in their lives, and partner up for waltzes, tangoes and rumbas – a kind of Strictly Come Dancing-style kids’ version of Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. It’s a nice idea, and there is something touching and important in showing how the boys and girls are – of course – so shy and giggly with each other at first.
