A Useful Episode to Season 3
Rcwilkinson1234 December 2007
Christopher Reeve makes second appearance on the show 25 episodes after his first appearance the previous year in this great episode.

Jonathan Kent's heart problems are worsening. What's worse, the key calls out to him the way it did to Clark in the past. This causes an accident at the farm, prompting Clark to discover why Jor-El is calling out to his adoptive father. Searching for answers, he comes into contact with the evil Lionel Luthor in the caves, making Lionel even more suspicious of who Clark is and where he comes from. Lionel, knowing that Clark had met with Dr. Swann (Reeve) in the past, goes to New York to see if Swann will help him discover who Clark is. Swann refuses, but mysteriously offers Lionel a bit of assistance at the end of their conversation. Jonathan and Lionel end up in major conflict in the cave, and the key gets lost in the process, only to end up in unexpected hands by episodes' end.

This episode is one of the stronger ones of season three. Christopher Reeve brings so much credibility to the show, and the story gets closer to completely unveiling Lionel's evil intentions.

3x17 - Rewatch (Luthor-Clark-centric)
DCSassyQueen21 July 2016
You know, I really hate how they make Jor-El seem like a terrible father. He sent his son to earth to save him for goodness sake... that is enough in my book for me to love Jor-El. Plus, Russell Crowe plays that character so I have a whole new level of bias for Jor-El.

Lionel Luthor finds Clark in the cave & tells Lex that they need to get to the bottom of the Clark Kent mystery.

Throughout all of season 3, Lex has really been trying to protect Clark, Chloe & Lana. Give that man some love & some friends.

Clark's stupidity is getting unreal. The dude is always zooming away & expecting everyone to turn a blind eye at his sudden disappearance. Also, the way he accuses & attacks Lex is low-key pissing me off. He is on some Barry Allen-type (The Flash TV show) shite.

Clark & Lana share a kiss. Well, that just open an unhealthy can of worms. Smh. These people have got to stop with this relationship. It is toxic & unhealthy AF. Also, the way Lana went to Lex about Clark... she might as well get with Lex.

I am ready for this season to be over because I am so damn tired of Clark & Lana, the caves & the Kents. I am over here preparing myself for season 4 when Queen Lois Lane makes her presence known.

The beginning of the end of the friendship

Warning: Spoilers
After Clark tries to kiss Lana she is at Lex's house where he is paying the Talon's bills. He sees she's upset and tells her she can tell him anything. She asks if he thinks people can change. Talking briefly about Clark kissing her earlier. She is crying. Lex has moved from across from her to next to her on the couch and proceeds to say in so many words, no...Clark can't change. He says people aren't one thing they've done but the sum of things they've done knowing Clark has a history of letting her down. He has begun to try to take Lana. He has begun his turn on Clark.

Boring and Pointless Episode
claudio_carvalho15 May 2006
While in the roof of the barn, Jonathan Kent is contacted though the octagonal key and Clark Kent saves him from a fall. Clark goes to the Kawatche caves with the key trying to find an explanation for what happened, when Lionel Luthor unexpectedly appears. Lionel Luthor meets Dr. Virgil Swann (Christopher Reeves) and proposes an association to investigate Clark. The FBI bugs Lex to make a surveillance and get evidences against Lionel Luhtor, and Clark becomes a suspect due to the interest of Lionel in an apparently simple "farm boy". Lana Lang does not decide whether she wants to stay with Clark or not.

I found "Legacy" a boring and pointless episode, with many inconsistent situations spread everywhere and none of them satisfactorily resolved. The romance of the mumbling crybaby Lana Lang and Clark Kent is very irritating. My vote is six.

Two major problems with this episode
LittleStorpingInTheSwuff16 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The first one is the fight in the cave between Jonathan and Lionel. Didn't Jonathan just have triple bypass surgery two episodes ago? I seriously doubt Jonathan would have recovered enough to be able to engage in such a fight with Lionel.

The second, and biggest, problem with this episode is that stupid key. Or rather, Clark's total stupidity safekeeping the key. Come on, wrapped in a cloth in a tool box locked with a 50 cent lock? After the first time Clark so carelessly hid the key he should have learned his lesson and put it somewhere really safe. But then again, if Clark did the smart thing with the key that story arc would have to come to an end, wouldn't it?
