The Island wastes no time in establishing just how evil its villain, Manuel is. As he’s talking to Nora, a singer auditioning at one of his properties, the waiter spills her drink on her. His response isn’t to fire the man but to stab him in the neck and tell the shocked woman, “Go get cleaned up, you work for me now.”
In Los Angeles Mark and his partner Phil are working undercover setting up a drug bust. This being an action film it naturally goes bad, but that’s not the worst thing Mark is going to have to deal with today. He gets a call telling him his brother has been murdered on the island where they grew up.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s new record PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation is finally here. Stream it below.
King Gizzard clocked back into somewhat familiar instrumentation with PetroDragonic Apocalypse, which marks their 24th studio album. Self-described as “heavy as fuck,” the new record harks back to 2019’s Infest the Rat’s Nest by diving into the metal pools of experimentally hard-hitting riffs and songs about witches and wizards. They teased the album with lead single “Gila Monster.”
PetroDragonic Apocalypse arrives an unusually long time after King Gizzard’s most recent LP Changes; that one was released last October, just weeks after their back-to-back albums Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava and Laminated Denim.

Based on its setup, The New Daughter would appear to be a ghost story. A troubled novelist moves his two children into a large and isolated house in rural South Carolina, and immediately they start to experience things that cannot be so readily explained. The audience might soon expect to see spirits of the dead haunting the film’s family, yet the fact is, something else entirely lurks on this cursed property.
Kevin Costner was coming off positive reviews for his villainous role in the psychological thriller Mr. Brooks when he was cast as the father in The New Daughter. Also joining the first directorial feature from Rec screenwriter Luis Berdejo was Pan’s Labyrinth star Ivana Baquero. The talent behind this adaptation of author John Connolly’s short story piqued an interest at the time, but upon its release in 2009, critics largely panned the film, singling out the pacing, the...

San Francisco, April 16 (Ians) Google has announced that it will shut down Currents, the platform that was introduced in 2019 as a replacement for Google Plus for G Suite users. According to The Verge, the company will begin winding down Currents on July 5, with data available for export until August 8, 2023, when it will no longer be available.
Moreover, the tech giant in a blogpost said that it will discontinue Currents and will replace it with Spaces.
“With Spaces now available, starting in 2023 we are planning to wind down Google Currents and bring remaining content and communities over to the new Spaces experience,” Google said.
According to the company, the reason behind the change is to eliminate the need for users to navigate to a separate platform. Instead, they can conveniently use Chat and Spaces, which will soon be seamlessly integrated into Gmail.

San Francisco, April 9 (Ians) Google has said that it will end the support for the Nest Secure and the Dropcam home security system starting April 8, 2024. Until that date, all current features will remain available and users can continue using their Nest Secure and Dropcam as they do now.
“All features will remain available until April 8, 2024. Dropcam will no longer work after that date, and you will no longer be able to use your Nest app to check status,” Google said in a blogpost.
Moreover, the company said that it will also shut down its “Works with Nest” programme starting September 29.
Google created Works with Nest in 2014, an initiative that allowed third-party devices to connect and work seamlessly with Nest products, creating a more integrated smart home experience.

Saurav Rai’s 2019 film ”Invitation” featured a child protagonist and once again the filmmaker centers a film on a young person.
Rai’s “Guras,” a Nepali and Hindi-language film, is a work-in-progress selection at the Hong Kong — Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf). It follows 9-year-old Guras, who lives in a mountain village in India’s Darjeeling district. Her pet dog goes missing and she embarks on a journey that soon turns mystical as she meets otherworldly beings along the way.
“I always had this fascination with my grandma’s real-life incident during her childhood when she stole someone’s vegetables from their garden. She ended up having chest pain after that and when her mother figured it out, she took her to the owner of the farmland. The owner immediately knew what had happened, so she smiled and prayed to her ancestors and relieved my grandma of the pain,” Rai says.

Are we to believe there really aren't any long-standing arcs on this show?
There's barely been time for the news to circulate through the family that Emily's killer is free and the convicted man innocent.
But, by the end of Walker Season 1 Episode 9, Walker thought he'd caught the killer again.
The bad news is that Walker didn't get to kill Emily's murderer, which was the episode's whole point. Unless, of course, that blonde wasn't the killer, after all.
Geri returned, and Walker bought her explanation about taking a bad loan so easily that I couldn't believe it. Sure, they were old friends, but this isn't passing the sniff test.
Why?
Because while Walker and Capt. James had the blonde on the edge, with James urging Walker to let her live so they could find out what else she knew, she pulled a gun, and a lurking Geri killed her.

If you have a computer, a cell phone, an Alexa or a Google Nest, you might be interested in the new Fox series, Next.
Maybe you just have an onboard computer in your car. You should still be interested.
We've seen the damage hacking can do on a small level and on a larger scale.
But what if the AI we've given to these computers to make our days easier begins to grow on its own?
Do we know for sure that it's not possible? Of course, we don't.
That's why shows like Westworld capture the imagination.
Now, Fox is going there with Next, and the full trailer for the new series looks tremendous.
Starring John Slattery as a Silicon Valley pioneer, Mr. LeBlanc, who founded one of the largest tech companies in the world.

Solo: A Star Wars story brought Lando Calrissian into the new canon in a big way. Donald Glover wore the cape for the prequel, and was lauded as one of the highlights of the film. However, Solo didn’t perform well enough at the box office to warrant any big screen sequels or additional spinoffs.
But with The Mandalorian a major success on Disney+, rumors about upcoming Star Wars live-action shows are booming. Lando is no exception. Glover is rumored to be returning to the role of for his own Disney+ series. Officially, nothing has been said about the possibility (and representatives for Mr. Glover have not responded to inquiries from Den of Geek as of this writing). As of July 14, Solo star Alden Ehrenreich said he had only heard rumors of upcoming Solo-related spinoffs.

The book world already has a term for Scotland-set detective novels – Tartan Noir. There’s an increasing need for similar to describe the emerging genre of glossy BBC domestic thrillers set north of the border. Trust Me, The Replacement, The Victim, The Cry and now The Nest… all miniseries, all stories about women, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the highlands and the steel-glass shine of regenerated city centres and architect-designed residences.
Visit Scotland Noir, maybe? Minted-Lassie Thrillers?
The Nest’s minted lassie is Emily (Sophie Rundle), a Glasgow music teacher married to local-boy-done-good Dan (Martin Compston). They live in a dream loch-side house and appear to have it all. Labor Day is a bit of romance and plenty of drama.
Kate Winslet (Carnage) stars as single mother Adele, who with her son Henry (Gatlin Griffith, The New Daughter) offers a ride to a wounded man, Frank (Josh Brolin, Gangster Squad), only to find out that he’s an escaped conflict. Kevin Costner's waning appeal
He had a small but significant role in last summer's hit Man of Steel, but Kevin Costner has shown that these days he cannot be relied upon to carry a movie. The last time he headlined a movie was in 2008, with the lighthearted drama Swing Vote, which earned $16.3m (£9.72m) at the box office. That same year Costner starred in The New Daughter. What? Exactly. So it came as little surprise to see Costner's latest, 3 Days to Kill, debuted at No 2 on $12.3m (£7.38m). Suddenly the $55m (£33m) final gross of seafaring action-adventure The Guardian, which was hardly a massive achievement back in 2006, begins to look relatively impressive. It’s been some time since the heyday of Kevin Costner’s prime. I’m talking about those sweet years between 1987 (The Untouchables) and 1994 (Wyatt Earp), when he was a regular box office draw, an award-winning director, and the president of sports movies. It’s not that he disappeared exactly. In fact, Costner’s been remarkably consistent in appearing in almost a movie a year. It’s more that the quality and profile of those films has diminished, and him a bit too in the process. There have been exceptions of course – Thirteen Days, Open Range, The Upside of Anger, TV’s Hatfields & McCoys. But a look at his projects between 2006 and 2013 – The Guardian, Mr. Brooks, Swing Vote, The New Daughter, The Company Men &ndash...

Under The Bed (2012) “The Aggression Scale” director Steven C. Miller returns with “Under the Bed”, an homage to the much loved creature features and Amblin films of the 1980s, in particular “The Goonies” and “Poltergeist”. Of course, with Miller being one of the rising stars of Us indie horror, the film unsurprisingly also has a nightmarish quality, making for an intriguing mix that should catch the attention of genre fans who grew up during those heady days of kiddie danger cinema. The film follows a troubled youth called Neal (Jonny Weston, “John Dies at the End”) who returns to live with his father and younger brother Paulie (Gattlin Griffith, “The New Daughter”) in the house where their mother died years back – an event which Neal blamed on a monster under the bed which only Paulie has seen too. In the years since, his father has come to believe him to be mentally ill,...

Kevin Costner hasn’t worked as much as he should have since his career faltered during the late 90s (around the time The Postman was released to a frankly astonishing amount of bilious criticism), and yet for a while, during that decade mostly, he cemented his position as one of the most genuinely likeable leading men. The ability is still there – more recent films like Open Range and particularly Mr Brooks confirm as much, and his work has also included under-rated films like 3000 Miles to Graceland, 13 Days and The Guardian – and some in Hollywood are still clearly willing to give him a chance. Hopefully Man of Steel will reannounce Costner as a viable Hollywood commodity, and not a relic of fifteen years ago.
But for now (well two years ago in fact), his “comeback” is prologued by this horror film from Luis Berdejo, which won’t quite do what Man of Steel will for Costner,...

We gave the Hollywood Reporter an exclusive first look at Jonny Weston (John Dies at the End) and Gattlin Griffith (The New Daughter, Changeling, Green Lantern) in Under The Bed, a new horror film produced by both Tom and myself announced last week. Now in post, THR has a few more details: Weston and Griffith "play brothers who team up to battle a creature in what is being described as a "suburban nightmare" tale," adding that it's "a love letter to early Steven Spielberg films." Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion) directs from a screenplay penned by Eric Stolze. As previously announced, Peter Holden (The Social Network), Musetta Vander (Sindel in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) and Kelcie Stranahan round out the cast. Holden plays Terry, the brothers' father, while Vander stars as the stepmother Angela. Stranahan plays Cara, Neal's love interest.

Outside of Bloody Disgusting, both Tom and myself produced a horror movie that we're pretty damn proud of. Over the past few month's we've been working insane hours on both the website and Under The Bed, our horror film inspired by classic Steven Spielberg films such as Poltergeist. Jonny Weston (John Dies at the End) and Gattlin Griffith (The New Daughter, Changeling, Green Lantern) topline the latest indie from up and coming genre producing outfit Site B. The duo will play brothers, Neal and Pauly, respectively. Ever since we discovered his $30k zombie feature Automaton Transfusion back in '05/'06, we've been huge fans of director Steven C. Miller, which is why we approached him to helm this love letter to the 1980's. The script was penned by Eric Stolze from a story we co-developed together. Peter Holden, Musetta Vander and Kelcie Stranahan round out the cast.

Twin brothers Gary and Edmund Entin dropped DC a quick line about their wicked roles in the After Dark Original Seconds Apart. Read on for the synopsis and the twins’ dual thoughts along with an exclusive new image from the flick!
Synopsis:
Seth and Jonah are murderous twins who share an evil kinship. Damned from the moment of their births, the brothers possess a talent for telekinesis – a power they are suspected of misusing in the most horrific ways imaginable. As fellow students meet gory fates, a local investigator suspects the twins are connected to these gruesome murders, culminating in one final showdown of brother against brother, evil against evil.
Says Producer Solomon, “Everyone’s heard about that creepy ‘twin thing.’” You just can’t under-estimate the power of twins, and this film is seasoned by the exceptional performances of Gary and Edmund Entin”.
Chris Haberman: What attracted you to the roles?...
