Entertainment Weekly recently made its (multiple) cover story the return of the TV show Twin Peaks. I don’t know if that’s a good thing, or even if I want to watch it. This is surprising to me since I was a big fan for most of the show’s run.
The show was set in the Pacific Northwest in a small town and was created by David Lynch (writer and director of the movie Blue Velvet) and Mark Frost (one of the main writers of the TV series Hill Street Blues). The show took place in the mythical small town of Twin Peaks, nestled in lumber country, and deals with the townsfolk, many of whom are, well, odd. The show starts with the discovery of high school homecoming queen Laura Palmer who has been murdered. Circumstances draw in the FBI in the person of Special Agent Dale Cooper,...

Many things divide the city of Chicago, including the perennial schism between its two baseball teams. The White Sox overcame a prospective franchise-ending scandal (the Black Sox) and various embarrassments (Michael Jordan at the bat) to become a fairly successful ball club, winning the World Series as recently as 2005. The Cubs have piled disappointment on top of disappointment, to the point where any playoff hope now inspires almost as much dread as cautious optimism. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me 87 times, let’s go Cubbies. Even though their last World Series win was now over a century ago (1908), the North Siders remain beloved, and this year, just like last, a Cubs playoff entry has turned into absolute mania for Chicago.
It helps that the Cubs curse started with an actual goat in 1945, heaped on us by a baseball fan upset that his smelly pet ...

Fool me once...or twice... Ben Affleck is busy in production on Justice League, where he is functioning as both one of the leads and an executive producer. The actor has taken on a larger role in Warner Brothers' DC Cinematic Universe following his turn as Batman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the shake-ups in the wake of that film's release. Perhaps most notably he's set to star in and direct WB's solo Batman movie from a script he's co-writing with DC Films' Geoff Johns, but he won't do so until he thinks it'll be one he can be proud of. Good for him. A group of reporters recently visited the set of Justice League where Affleck was present to give an update on the progress on the Batman movie. IGN reports that when asked about a release, Affleck conceded that he's not yet ready to move forward,...

So, DC Comics is vowing – once again – to reset-ish their universe via the “Rebirth” event coming soon to a comics shoppe near you. And DC’s Cco Geoff Johns posted a heartfelt mission statement into the back of the current crop of DC comics to reannounce it, since Dan Didio announcing it doesn’t count or something. Well, knowing that some of us snarky malcontents have long abandoned the ship, Newsarama was happy enough to reprint his plea. Let me paraphrase:
Dear Fans, remember when I wrote great books, and you loved DC? Well, pretend the New 52 never happened, and come back. We totally get that some of you got mad and left, but because of reasons… we’re making good books again. Because our creators have passion. Let's try to cover everything we haven't mentioned lately (whew). The biggest and most obvious is that Sofia Coppola, whose plans to follow up Bling Ring with a live action Little Mermaid are no more, is now supposedly working on a remake of the Clint Eastwood romantic drama The Beguiled (1971). The film will star two darlings of Tfe Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst. Plus Elle Fanning so Coppola already sold all the tickets to our crowd. The Clint role is as yet uncast. They're said to be looking for a 'Chris Pratt' type but what this surely calls for is a watch of the original film to familiarize ourselves.

Because it’s almost like he’s been through this before, and he can’t believe he let himself go through it again." How does the old saying go? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Dear Marvel and DC,
It’s been too long since I’ve written you, and for that I am very sorry. I’d think it awkward, given that I was once a weekly reviewer of your monthly publications, but I’ve essentially all but given up on them over the last six months. And it’s not because of financial concerns, or even a matter of proximity. Certainly sparing ten to twenty bucks a week for a decent load of your wares from one of the fine comic shops mere blocks from my office was once a weekly delight. But over time, my pull list dwindled and dwindled. Each book in your respective repertoire began to feel repetitive, dull, or forced. And as insult to the injury… the shop I frequented only carried indie books they “knew would actually sell” unless I specifically sought them to be ordered and held.

Kass is displeased by the way things played out. "Anyone who crosses Tony gets their cement shoes and gets thrown in the pond," Kass says of Jefra's sin, which was contemplating backstabbing The Don. Kass reckons that the lesson of her own flip was that you shouldn't leave anybody out and she's tired of being confused at Tribal Council. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me," Kass grumbles. She calls Tony a hothead and he protests that he keeps his promises until people conspire against him. Kass tells Tony that she's sick of his condescending attitude and warns him about a Jury. Spencer loves watching Tony and Kass fighting, as Kass refuses Tony's half-hearted apology. But what does Tony think about Edgar Allan Poe?...

Futures & Pasts: Wild Things by Nick Pinkerton:
“In Pierre Bayard’s 1998 Who Killed Roger Ackroyd?: The Mystery Behind the Agatha Christie Mystery, a closer-than-close reading of Agatha Christie’s 1926 The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, psychoanalyst and literature professor Bayard expends considerable space on the subject of the book’s narrative ellipses, its lies by omission. These are the spaces in which Christie’s narrator, Dr. James Sheppard, who is eventually unmasked as the book’s murderer, can conceal his guilt. They are also, for Bayard, indicators of a far larger world which exists beyond the parsimonious few details that Christie, by way of Sheppard and investigator Hercule Poirot, have chosen to share with the reader.” - Keynote: The multi-level stereotypes of The Cabin In The Woods by Tasha Robinson: - “Stereotypes are a real time-saver.

The Feb. 18 episode of ‘Pretty Little Liars’ revealed that Ezra is not the villainous ‘A,’ which creator Marlene King confirmed in a follow-up interview. And while some fans are hailing this as a brilliant plot twist, I’m choosing to call foul.
Let me begin by saying how much I love Pretty Little Liars. I’ve been riding the Rosewood Roller Coaster since day one, and I don’t plan on getting off until the ride comes to a complete stop. But you know what I don’t love? Spending months being told who the show’s villain is, only to have the rug pulled illogically out from under me — and this isn’t the first time that’s happened.
When Ezra (Ian Harding) “came clean” to Aria (Lucy Hale) on last night’s episode, I didn’t buy a word he was saying. Like, we’re supposed to believe...

Misha Collins just can't catch a break during his first outing as a director on "Supernatural." First Jared Padalecki pied him in the face on set ...
And now Jensen Ackles pied him in the face on set. Those "Supernatural" boys sure love their pie (although Dean would probably cry at all the wasted pie).
On Wednesday (Feb. 12), Collins shared the video of the prank on Twitter once again for our enjoyment. "Fool me once shame on you," Collins writes. "Fool me twice, I'll hunt u down and make u wish you were never born. You betters sleep with one eye open because revenge is a dish best served without frosting."
Watch the on-set shenanigans continue below. "Supernatural" returns with new episodes on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. Et on The CW.

He slammed Disney for putting so much pressure on his family during shoots for "Jonas” and now Joe Jonas is at the heart of harsh criticism from studio alum Dylan Sprouse.
The former star of Disney’s "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" pitched in his two cents about Joe’s interview calling it nothing more than "bulls**t."
"First, I think it's bulls**t that they were being robbed of choice or creativity," Dylan stated on his Tumblr account. "If they wanted to, they could have told Disney 'No.' Cole and I did this hundreds of times and we ended up all right. The only reason they didn't is because, like many of the people on that channel, I think they fell for the allure of fame."
Sprouse continued, "Granted [my brother] Cole and I had been acting our entire lives, so we saw it as a means to...

Odd List Shiromi Arserio 3 Oct 2013 - 07:00
Shiromi talks us through ten of the least expected sci-fi crossovers in the geek TV world...
Who would win in a fight? The crew of Babylon 5 or the crew of Deep Space Nine? While often reserved for the realm of fan fiction, two established franchises crossing over does happen from time to time. Typically you'll see this when the properties are owned by the same company, like Superman meeting Batman. While other times it's an intentional crossover of two very different properties like Star Trek characters crossing over into the X-Men universe. Yes, you read that right.
This list is devoted to the top franchise crossovers. I've tried to steer clear from shows that obviously exist in the same universe, like Tng characters showing up on DS9, or Buffy appearing on Angel, and instead focus on crossovers from separate franchises. Some of...

This website was created several years ago to promote indie horror titles. But, every so often, a potential, terrible movie will come along; and then, this site acts more as a warning for horror fans. Brian T. Jaynes is probably this critic's least favourite director, in horror (and Larry Fessenden this critic's favourite). Jaynes has continued to create uninspiring and lackluster titles, for several years now. The first film this reviewer saw, by Jaynes, was Boggy Creek (2010). This film was a non-event, with very little happening in the film's eighty-seven minute run time (Boggy Creek Review). This film fan mistakenly believed that Jaynes would improve in his next title, Humans Versus Zombies (2011). Instead, the script for Humans Versus Zombies was very messy and the conclusion was an add-on (Humans Versus Zombies Review). Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. This film fanatic no longer reviews Jaynes' work,...

I don’t do well with death on television. It’s why I spend the majority of my time watching Breaking Bad or Homeland incredibly stressed out. It’s why I had to stop watching The Tudors after season 3, and why – while my brain knows it’s a great show – I’m unable to watch most of Game of Thrones. But that’s on me: All of the shows’ premises strongly imply that you shouldn’t get too attached to anyone; anyone’s head could be on a metaphorical or physical chopping block any day now.
But I had no such expectations with Downton Abbey.

It was shocking to see Huma Adebin stand by her husband, Anthony Weiner, after a second sexting scandal emerged on July 23. A number of experts tell HollywoodLife.com exclusively that Huma may be denial. Keep reading for all the details!
Huna Adebin told the world that she fully supports her husband, Anthony Weiner, even though he found himself involved in a second sexting scandal, on July 23. Is she really forgiving or just in denial? Experts weigh in!
Anthony Weiner — Huma Adebin May Be Co-Dependent & In Denial Of Husband’s Sexting
“Perhaps Huma is in denial. She may be co-dependent in the relationship. Many significant others of addicts are co-dependent. They don’t undertsand that they Cannot control the addict’s behavior. They put the addict’s needs first. Huma definitely needs professional help to examine her part in the relationship and why she wants to remain in this marriage,” addiction expert Steven Orenstein,...

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. But are viewers about to be fooled a third time by AMC's "The Killing"? Two years ago, "The Killing" premiered with so much promise. It would take the familiar, stale format of the TV police procedural and give it greater depth and power and artistry by devoting an entire season to the investigation of a single murder case. Though the creative team (mainly writer/producer Veena Sud) and AMC publicity were very careful to never say that the murder of Seattle teen Rosie Larsen would be solved during that first...

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. That’s likely the thought Rob is mulling over after reportedly finding texts from Kristen’s ex-fling, Rupert Sanders, on her phone. According to a new report, Rob realized he can’t trust K-Stew and that’s why he moved his stuff out of her home.
Robert Pattinson certainly had an unhappy birthday. Not only did he and Kristen Stewart allegedly have a huge argument on his big day, but according to a new report, it was caused by a text exchange between K-Stew and her ex-fling Rupert Sanders.

“Rob was looking at her phone on the morning of his birthday as he wanted to take a picture of something when she was in the shower. Suddenly this message flashes up and it’s not what he wanted to see. He got straight up and left.

Within the 30,000 or so words I’ve written about Arrow since it premiered in the way, way back of 2012, I don’t know if I ever gave the show proper credit for just how good it’s been at making you want to see another episode, week after week. The 11th hour conspiracy twist that closed out the pilot was the moment that I realized I was in for at least one more hour of Arrow, a moment that would repeat itself often during the uneven early days of the first season. Few weeks of the show ever opened half so strongly as they closed, so the intriguing teases at the end of even particularly bad weeks became like a cruel joke. Fool me once with a good cliffhanger, Arrow, shame on you; fool me twenty-two times, shame on me.

Listen, America. I can't blame you for not tuning in to "The Carrie Diaries" when it first started.
Even I, a tried-and-true teen drama lover who cried a bucket of tears when "One Tree Hill" ended and still harbors anger issues regarding Rory Gilmore's love life, had my doubts about this show.
I was very skeptical when The CW first announced plans for the "Sex and the City" prequel. Would fans care about the beginning of Carrie Bradshaw's story when they already knew the end of it? Then, after the fiasco that was the "Gossip Girl" series finale, I had my reservations about getting invested in another teen-centric series from Fake Empire. (Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, and... I'm just the idiot that invested a hundred precious hours in two shows that made absolutely no sense.)
My concerns were unfounded. Trust me when I tell you...

Warning: Massive Spoiler Alerts!!!! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, what the hell’s wrong with you, American Horror Story? Tonight’s Season 2 finale, “Madness Ends,” which airs at 10pm on FX, has me feeling some familiar frustrations. Last season I willfully and gladly went along with the big ball of crazy that befell the Harmon family, not caring that the rules were established, then seemingly broken at will. Just what the heck ghosts were capable of, anyway? I thought they couldn’t leave the house, but then I see one riding in the back of a squad car? [...]...

No doubt those of you who troll the Internets or saw The Hobbit were privy to the new trailer for Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel. My Facebook feed was deluged with tons of praise, mirth, and, most scary to me… hope. Maybe it’s being in the company (and five-a-day e-mail chains) of Mike Gold, but color me doubtful. Not that Mike isn’t anything short of a ray of sunshine mind you… but I digress; I’m none-to-impressed with the footage. That is to say, I didn’t see anything that makes me less uneasy about the future of the Dcu on film.
Before I get into the nitty gritty, let me first state: the trailer looks good. Great even. There’s a metric ton of things to like about it. Much like it’s Darker-Knightier cousin, the film embraces a realism that the House of Mouse is way to scared (or smart,...

Another interview, another rumor about the possibilities of a Ghostbusters 3, more than 20 years after part two. Dan Aykroyd gave a recent interview to Esquire magazine and, naturally, one of the first topics to come up was Ghostbusters 3, especially seeing as how Aykroyd has been the sequel's "biggest cheerleader."
"I've worked on every draft in the last three years, as Ivan [Reitman, the director] has, and now we have a story and a draft that everybody seems to agree would make the third movie," Aykroyd tells Esquire. "At this point, I think we're closer than we ever have been. And because of the ever-shifting sands and nature of the motion-picture business, I will just say that hopefully, at some point, it will be morphing into what is known in the business as a [Aykroyd mimes air quotes] "production number XP39789." Then I will begin to rent cars, get hotel rooms, and bill for writing. But that point hasn't come.

Let's jump forward two minutes into the future when you read this article before seeing "Looper" and complain about spoilers. We've come back from the future and inserted this warning that you're gonna be mildly spoiled. You're welcome.
Now, within that spoiler warning (seriously, don't read on unless you've already seen the movie), we've also honed in on the central paradox of time travel in writer/director Rian Johnson's fantastic new sci-fi action fiesta, which is that if you go back in time as Bruce Willis does, you're changing the future, so how could you have ever gone back in time? Just like if you discovered we spoiled the movie, but then we went in and put a warning, you wouldn't be spoiled and why would we go back in the first place?...
