Two-time Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund’s highly anticipated next feature The Entertainment System Is Down might just have Keanu Reeves on board.
Given his unassailable pedigree as a filmmaker, the next film by Ruben Östlund was already highly anticipated, not least because he’s following up the acclaimed Triangle Of Sadness with another ambitious English-language project. It’s the central idea for the film that has garnered so much buzz up until this point: according to Variety, Östlund has ‘teased it several times as a social satire set on a long-haul flight on which the entertainment system isn’t working, sparking chaos and rages among passengers. The Swedish director has been collecting anecdotes for the last few years for the movie and recently finalised the script.’

Keanu Reeves is making headlines again after joining the cast of Paramount‘s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog by engaging in talks to star in Triangle of Sadness director Ruben Östlund’s next feature, The Entertainment System Is Down.
Variety broke the news on Friday. Still, details about the plot remain a mystery. Östlund says The Entertainment System Is Down is a social satire set on a long-haul flight with a faulty entertainment system. As boredom spreads throughout the cabin, rage starts to overwhelm the passengers. Chaos ensues. The idea for Östlund’s next feature is something he’s been building for years. The filmmaker says he’s been collecting anecdotes to use as inspiration for The Entertainment System Is Down, with several years of material at his disposal. Though it likely involves dark comedy and sharp humor, Reeves’s role remains a mystery.

Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was one visual treat that climbed to the status of the top-grossing movie in the franchise in just 10 days of its release. While John Wick 4 provided an even greater movie experience, the potential of Chad Stahelski’s realistic filmmaking was first noticed in the third film. The effort that went into making one underwater fight scene proves how Stahelski’s film was anchored in reality.

Keanu Reeves has long been a fan-favorite hero in Tinseltown, famous for portraying stoic, morally upright characters in critically acclaimed flicks such as John Wick and The Matrix. Nonetheless, much to the surprise of his fans, the Beirut-born actor, 59, has now taken on a new role that differs from his usual heroic persona: that of the anti-hero (Shadow) in the forthcoming Sonic 3 film. And fans are loving it!
Multiple sources are attesting that Reeves will resume voice acting following his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman in Jared Stern’s DC League of Super-Pets (2022).
Shadow in a still from Sonic The Hedgehog 2
For those unfamiliar with the Sonic franchise, Shadow is an intricate character who walks the line between hero and villain. He is gloomy and enigmatic, with a mysterious past that drives him to follow his own code of conduct, often contradicting traditional notions of what a hero should be.

“Sonic the Hedgehog” just got a whole lot darker. Keanu Reeves has been cast as the voice of Shadow, the evil, lab-generated black hedgehog foil to Sonic, in Paramount’s upcoming “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” IndieWire has learned. Paramount had no comment.
Reeves joins a voice cast that includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and Idris Elba as Knuckles, who debuted in “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and is getting his own spinoff series on Paramount+ later this year. James Marsden and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik are also returning to the cast of the live-action film. Jeff Fowler, who directed the first two entries, is returning for the three-quel.

Neo, portrayed by Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, employs a range of martial arts techniques in all four films, even though his most famous quote is “I know kung fu”. The Wachowskis’ action film series were renowned for their brilliant martial arts action, which was unusual in American cinema at the time, in addition to their surreal storylines and thought-provoking ideas.
However, keen-eyed fans may have noticed that Neo prefers punching over kicking in his battles with the agents. Have you ever wondered why, though? Well, Reeves had back surgery shortly before filming on The Matrix began in order to treat a spinal injury that was paralyzing his legs.

It’s been almost twenty years, but there’s a chance we might see Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Constantine on the big screen! In November 2012, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro struck a deal to make a Justice League Dark movie featuring DC Comics’ supernatural characters, including John Constantine. In November 2020, actor Peter Stormare hinted at a sequel possibly being in progress through an Instagram post. However, neither Warner Bros. nor Reeves themselves confirmed this at the time.
Then, in 2023, Francis Lawrence mentioned that he and Keanu Reeves were brainstorming ideas for the sequel, but every time they came close to something solid, the management at DC studio would undergo changes.
“But luckily, we managed to wrangle some control and started working on some ideas for Constantine 2, which we’re really excited about. It’s still the very beginning, as the strike put it on hold for a little bit.

Director Francis Lawrence, renowned for his work on the Hunger Games series, is venturing into familiar yet intriguing territory with the initial discussions of a Constantine sequel. The original 2005 film, a unique blend of supernatural and superhero elements, captivated a diverse audience, and now there’s a spark of hope for its continuation. Teaming up with Keanu Reeves and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, Lawrence is in the preliminary stages of bringing Constantine 2 to life.
Navigating through the complexities of the film industry and changes at DC, the project has faced its share of challenges. Despite these obstacles, Lawrence and his team are pushing forward. The recent halt due to a strike is only a temporary setback, with plans to reconvene after Thanksgiving.
Lawrence’s approach to storytelling, especially evident in his latest Hunger Games film, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, demonstrates his ability to delve into complex narratives and character dynamics.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes has finally been released and has a bit of an uphill battle to contend with. The new movie will obviously not include the popular franchise series’ star, Jennifer Lawrence, and interest in the prequel isn’t generating the same buzz as the sequels to the 2012 original. The film’s director, Francis Lawrence, is a series regular and has returned for this new entry. However, there are other titles in Lawrence’s resume that fans have been wanting follow-ups for.
The Hollywood Reporter has recently spoken with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes director, where he addresses that he’s currently working on getting Constantine 2 in motion. As James Gunn and Peter Safran take over the DC film slate, Lawrence is asked if the regime change meant that a sequel to Constantine was dead. Lawrence responded, “No, but we’ve had many obstacles.

[This story contains spoilers for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.]
Prequels are tough to get right. For every Better Call Saul, there are ten more stories that failed to enrich the works that came before them. However, Francis Lawrence’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes manages to not only stand on its own, but as a prequel, it also deepens the text of the Hunger Games films starring Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen.
The filmmaker chalks it up to the strength of author Suzanne Collins’ source material, as well as the performances of his two leads, Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler. In one of the climactic scenes of the film, Blyth has to sell Coriolanus Snow’s transformation that would later define Donald Sutherland’s tyrannical version of the character, and Lawrence remains in awe of what the young actor accomplished with minimal dialogue.

It was announced several years ago that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions was developing a new Constantine TV series for Max, but a recent report from Variety confirms that the project has officially been scrapped. I know, not exactly a surprise, but the series got further ahead than you might have thought.
According to the report, the Constantine TV series was far enough along that they were already in talks with an actor to play the leading role before it was scrapped. There had been rumours that Sope Dirisu (Gangs of London) was being eyed to play Constantine, but nothing was ever confirmed. The series would have been set in contemporary London, and four scripts had been written.

It’s been a roller coaster for ‘Constantine’ fans. Ever since the 2005 cult hit starring Keanu Reeves was released, whispers of a sequel have floated around. And now, there’s renewed hope with both Reeves and the film’s original director, Francis Lawrence, hinting at a comeback.
The 2005 film introduced us to John Constantine, an exceptional exorcist who could see the dark and divine beings of the world. His mission was straightforward: banish every demon to hell and earn a spot in heaven. With standout performances by Rachel Weisz and Tilda Swinton, the film managed a whopping $230 million at the global box office.
But the road to a sequel has been anything but smooth. There were several reasons for the delay, but Francis Lawrence recently told GameSpot that this year’s writers strike was a big hurdle. However, this recent setback isn’t the entire story. There were challenges even before.

Variety reported last fall that Keanu Reeves was in talks to return for a sequel to “Constantine,” the 2005 superhero horror movie based on the graphic novels from DC Comics and Vertigo Comics. Francis Lawrence, the 2005 film’s director, offered a small but notable update on the project. The filmmaker is set to return alongside Reeves for the sequel.
It turns out a script for “Constantine 2” still does not exist — it got held up by the WGA strike, which is now over — but the two men and original producer Akiva Goldsman are hashing out the story.

However, back in 2005, the director made an impressive feature debut with the movie adaptation of the DC comic Hellblazer, with the Keanu Reeves horror-action vehicle, Constantine. Fans of the film had been clamoring for a sequel since, but none has come to fruition. However, 2014 brought the character to an NBC series that would only last one season.
According to BingeHulu, Lawrence recently gave an interview with GameSpot, in which he updated readers on the state of Constantine 2, which had been in development for quite a long time. Francis Lawrence has been working on the story for 'Constantine 2' with Keanu Reeves and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. The 52-year-old filmmaker is set to helm a follow-up to the 2005 superhero movie that featured Reeves as the supernatural exorcist John Constantine and explained that progress has been delayed by the Hollywood writers' strike and a battle to obtain control of the character again.Francis told GameSpot: "So 'Constantine 2' got obviously held up by the writers' strike. Nearly 20 years ago, back in 2005, Keanu Reeves starred in "Constantine." It was at a time when DC didn't really have a cinematic identity, the very same year that Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" hit theaters. "Constantine" was an R-rated, dark, and gritty take on a comic book film that didn't quite fit the bill of a superhero movie but, particularly in the modern context, certainly feels unique within the genre. Fortunately, the film has maintained a loyal, sizable audience, so much so that Warner Bros. announced plans to make a sequel in 2022.
Much has changed since that initial announcement, however, leaving the project in a bit of a precarious spot. The DC Universe is rapidly changing, Reeves is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood, and not one but two different strikes have impacted the project. So, is "Constantine 2" still happening? What's the status of the sequel? We're here...

Constantine 2 is reportedly in development at Warner Bros. with John Wick's Keanu Reeves set to stick around in the leading role.
Keanu Reeves made his one and only appearance as DC's John Constantine in a 2005 solo outing from director Francis Lawrence.
So, it came as a great shock when it was revealed in September 2022, just before James Gunn's Dcu reboot announcement, that a sequel was in the works with both Reeves and Lawrence returning under a script from Akiva Goldsman.

The character of John Constantine first appeared in an issue of "Swamp Thing" in June of 1985. He would go on to appear in a comic book called "Hellblazer," a title that described his profession as a paranormal private investigator. For year, Constantine was a favorite of readers drawn to darker and more twisted fantasy stories. In 2005, director Francis Lawrence adapted "Hellblazer" to the big screen in the form of "Constantine" starring Keanu Reeves in the title role.
"Constantine" reworked the character slightly, making him into a freelance exorcist as well as P.I. In the film, Constantine is dealing with cancer, despite his constant hobnobbing with Archangel Gabriel (Tilda Swinton) and the snarling Lucifer (Peter Stormare). "Constantine" was only warmly received by critics, and it currently holds a 46% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also opened to disappointing box office numbers, making less that $30 million against a $100 million budget. Eventually,...

During a recent Reddit Ama (Ask Me Anything), Keanu Reeves was asked if he had ever stolen anything from the set, and while Keanu Reeves noted that he’s never actually stolen anything, he does have a few pieces of movie memorabilia, including the iconic red pill from The Matrix.
Not stolen… the watch and wedding ring from John Wick, a sword from 47 Ronin, and the first red pill that the Wachowski’s ever gave me.
As Morpheus says in The Matrix, “You take the blue pill… the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill… you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” A tiny red capsule pill may not seem like the most attention-grabbing piece of memorabilia, but if anyone has it, I’m glad it’s Keanu Reeves.

While Hugh Jackman is currently beefing up to play Wolverine for the ninth time in “Deadpool 3,” another beloved actor just revealed he would have loved a shot at the role: Keanu Reeves.
While taking part in a reddit Ama, Reeves was asked if there’s ever been a role in his career that he regretted turning down. He said no, but that he “did always want to play Wolverine,” no doubt jump-starting a whole new fan campaign to get the 58-year-old actor in the role if/when the Marvel Cinematic Universe recasts.
Reeves is no stranger to comic book movies, having led 2005’s DC adaptation “Constantine,” a role he intends to reprise in an upcoming sequel at Warner Bros. But Keanu Reeves as Wolverine? Where’s a “Bill and Ted” time machine when you need it?
The “Matrix” actor’s delightful interactions with fans during the Ama also offered a number of other revelations.

We learned last year that Warner Bros. was developing a long-belated sequel to Constantine, but that was a very different time. Since then, James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken over DC Studios, which has led to the cancellation of a handful of projects that don’t fit into the new universe. Rumours began circulating last week that Constantine 2 had suffered a similar fate, but thankfully that’s not the case.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson reached out to Entertainment Weekly to confirm that Constantine 2 has not been scrapped. That said, little has been heard about the Constantine sequel, but as the new DC Universe slate includes a Swamp Thing movie, it stands to reason that James Gunn isn’t avoiding the darker aspects of the franchise.

Fans who have been clamoring for the return of Keanu Reeves as Constantine can take a deep breath of relief because the sequel announced last fall has not been canned in the wake of James Gunn and Peter Safran's new plans for the DC Universe. Reeves first played the character of John Constantine in the 2005 cult-hit "Constantine" from director Francis Lawrence. In the years that followed, Reeves' star only got hotter, and Lawrence went on to direct hugely successful projects like "I Am Legend" and the latter three films in "The Hunger Games" series.
The Constantine character has been played multiple times across a variety of mediums over the years, and plenty of folks have a soft spot for Reeves' take. However, after big changes like Henry Cavill not returning as Superman and the scrapping of the already-completed "Batgirl" film, the fate of the future of "Constantine 2" looked grim.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced their initial plans for the new DC Universe, and one of the most exciting bits of news was that "Swamp Thing" is getting his own movie. While this is exciting on its own because Swamp Thing rules, it also means that some of the other characters from DC's Vertigo imprint might make their mark on the Dcu. Ole Swampy himself was originally a regular DC lineup character before being rebooted by Alan Moore with "Saga of the Swamp Thing" in 1982, helping to create the Vertigo lineup, which was seen as a darker, weirder alternative to standard DC Comics fare. Many characters have crossed from Vertigo to the main DC universe and back again, so it's entirely possible that Gunn and Safran could bring some other Vertigo characters to the big or small screen sometime soon. For fans of the imprint, which sadly shuttered...

Lionsgate offered up a new “John Wick 4” poster during their presentation at this weekend’s Ccxp (also known as the Brazil Comic-Con). The poster is just an extreme close-up of a suited-up Keanu Reeves. The appeal of the series, not discounting the relative quality of its predecessors, is the mere hook of watching Keanu Reeves going full “gun-fu” on a new batch of bad guys, random henchmen and upper-level adversaries. The appeal of “John Wick: Chapter 4” is quite simply that it’s another “John Wick” movie.
Perhaps “John Wick” was initially perceived as a knock-off of Liam Neeson’s “Taken”, with Keanu Reeves playing a retired hitman who leaps back into action after his wife dies and Russian mobsters murder his new puppy. However, its impact on the action movies that followed is akin to if “Speed” (which was a loose variation on the “Die Hard” formula) caused...

Seventeen years after the release of the DC Comics adaptation Constantine (watch it Here), a sequel is finally moving ahead with director Francis Lawrence back at the helm and star Keanu Reeves reprising the role of occult expert John Constantine. Speaking with The Wrap, Lawrence revealed that his biggest regret about the first Constantine was the fact that it was shot for a PG-13 rating but ended up receiving an R rating anyway. With Constantine 2, he intends to aim for an R rating from the start.
Lawrence said, “One of the biggest things for me about the first one was we followed, per Warner Bros., the rules to make a PG-13 movie in terms of violence, blood, language, sexuality. But the ratings board gave us a hard R based on their the gray zone of intensity. And my big, big regret was that we have an R-rated movie that’s really a PG-13 movie.

Officially announced back in September, Constantine 2 is finally happening with Keanu Reeves coming back to play DC’s John Constantine for an official sequel to the 2005 movie. Francis Lawrence is also returning to direct the brand new Constantine adventure, and Lawrence explains to The Wrap this week that the sequel will be made with a different mindset.
Back in 2005, the first Constantine movie was released with an “R” rating, but it wasn’t actually intended to be a rated “R” movie when it was being made. As for Constantine 2, however, it sounds like Lawrence and the team will be shooting for that rating from the outset.

The fanboy desire for R-rated superhero movies is -- by and large -- silly, especially when it comes to tentpole characters like Batman, Superman and the X-Men. James Mangold made it work with the elegiac "Logan," but that's an itch that should rarely get scratched. The DC films are dour enough as it is, and, outside of Christopher Nolan's "Batman" trilogy, this miserabilist approach saps what should be enthralling yarns of their fun and vitality. If I want to go see a humorless studio flick about crime-fighters made for adults, well, they don't make those anymore so I'll stay home and watch a streaming series like David Simon's "We Own This City."
There are exceptions. If you're adapting Alan Moore's "Watchmen," you're defanging the material if you don't go for the hardest of R ratings. And if you're taking on John Constantine, the cynical, chain-smoking protagonist of the "Hellblazer" comics,...

This new “Constantine” sequel, which will reunite him with original star Keanu Reeves and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, will be different in at least one key aspect, at least if Lawrence has his way. Get ready for a hard-r “Constantine.”

If you're a fan of DC Comics' John Constantine, your options for TV shows and movies featuring the character could be worse. The "Hellblazer" comics have been adapted more times than the average viewer might think. Leading the charge was the 2005 horror action film "Constantine" with Keanu Reeves, which reimagines the British occult detective as an American private investigator and exorcism specialist living in Los Angeles.
Since then, we have gotten NBC's 2014 "Constantine" TV series, which received a respectable critical response and does have its fans despite being canceled after one season, as well as multiple DC Animated Universe films starring Constantine. Most recently, a new interpretation of the character appeared as Johanna Constantine in Netflix's "The Sandman," which adapts John Constantine's multi-issue cameo appearance in Neil Gaiman's early issues of the comics into a character that fits better into the narrative of the show. The movie world got a bit of an unexpected bit of news recently when it was revealed that "Constantine" is getting a sequel. Yes, the 2005 DC Comics adaptation starring Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz, and yes, Reeves is coming back to play the role of John Constantine once again. They've even got director Francis Lawrence returning, making it a true, blue legacy sequel.
If one were to simply look at Twitter or film friendly corners of Facebook, this news is joyous and worth celebrating. In the great words of Keanu Reeves, “Whoa.”
That is all that can be said about this latest news about the long-awaited Constantine sequel.
In 2005, Warner Brothers attempted to adapt the comic Hellblazer. The property involved the main character named John Constantine— a street-smart con man who also battles demons.
Reeves teamed with director Francis Lawrence to bring the source material to the big screen with mild results. The film had a budget of 100 million and grossed 75 million domestically (230 million globally). Since then, the movie has taken on a life of its own, much like Keanu Reeves’ career post John Wick.
A sequel is something Reeves has wanted for a long time.
Well, he finally got his wish.
Constantine 2 is in development
Deadline has it confirmed that Reeves will reprise his role as John Constantine after 17 years.
