The actor, musician and troublemaker known for everything from Trainspotting to Fat Les opens himself up to your interrogations
Keith Allen: where to begin? You might know him as the guy who moves into the flat in Shallow Grave and then dies of a drug overdose, leaving a suitcase full of money and three flatmates on the prowl. Or as the dealer in Trainspotting who buys £16,000 worth of heroin from Renton and the gang. More recently he appeared as the dad in Eddie the Eagle and as the baddy in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London opposite Frankie Muniz, as well as in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins.
Maybe you caught Allen as a beardy Scrooge in Mark Gatiss’ stage 2023 adaptation of A Christmas Carol. He’s been in The Young Ones, Spaced and Doctor Who. He co-wrote and appeared in the video for...

Egerton gained worldwide fame after starring in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014). He also starred in the sequel. He starred in Apple TV Plus’ American crime drama series Black Bird (2022) with the late Ray Liotta.

Dexter Fletcher was advised to step in to direct 'Bohemian Rhapsody' so he knew what to avoid on 'Rocketman'.The 57-year-old filmmaker stepped in to helm the last few weeks on the Queen biopic after Bryan Singer was fired and though he had begun pre-production on the Sir Elton John movie, producer Matthew Vaughn could see the benefit of him working on both projects.Dexter - who was only credited as executive producer on 'Bohemian Rhapsody' because of DGA rules - told The Hollywood Reporter: "The truth was that I’d been involved with Bohemian Rhapsody a couple of years earlier when it was at Sony, with a different actor attached. I got a long way through the process, in fact, and I was pretty much in the first week of pre-production when it fell apart. "So I knew that material well, and I knew that Queen knew me,...

Dexter Fletcher’s Ghosted is quite the family reunion.
What started as a reunion between long-time friends Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson evolved into a reteaming between Evans and his Knives Out and The Gray Man co-star, Ana de Armas. When Johansson’s window of availability closed, Fletcher suggested the now-Oscar nominated de Armas for the co-lead role in the Apple TV+ action spy comedy, prompting Evans to call de Armas directly.
But Evans wasn’t done there, as he even recruited a couple other familiar faces to rejoin him on an Atlanta-based set, something this trio had done numerous times before on other films. Evans and two of the film’s producers also managed to lure another A-lister into the fold, but let’s leave it at that in order to maintain the surprise.

Taron Egerton has expressed his strong disdain for wearing fake moustaches, going so far as to compare the “horrendous” experience to childbirth.
The 33-year-old Welsh actor stars as real-life videogame designer Henk Rogers in Apple TV Plus’ new movie Tetris – released on Friday (31 March) – which tells the story of how the Russian video game made its way to the West.
To accurately portray a young Rogers, Egerton was made to wear a fake moustache throughout the film.
“It’s absolutely horrendous, I will never do it ever again, it doesn’t matter how much you pay me. Don’t let me wear a fake moustache ever again,” the Kingsman: The Secret Service actor pleaded during an appearance on Good Morning Britain’s Thursday (30 March) episode.
Recalling that he had sported one years ago in 2016’s sports drama Eddie the Eagle, Egerton explained: “I wore that for part of the movie,...

"Tetris" is a fantastic retelling of the rather incredible story behind the game. This is not really about the game, mind you, but about the bizarre, complex, and — if you were to believe the film — almost country-ending story behind the acquisition of the rights to the game. Thanks to yet another compelling and hugely entertaining performance by Taron Egerton, some genuinely thrilling moments, and some imaginative visuals, "Tetris" is as addictive and exciting as the game that inspired it.
A lot has been said about video game adaptations, from those who believe "The Last of Us" is the first good video game adaptation to those who know "Arcade," "Castlevania" and "Sonic the Hedgehog" proved video games could make for incredible TV and film. Would you do it if you could drink something that would make you live forever? Dexter Fletcher will often ask himself this question as he prepares to direct Fountain of Youth for Skydance. The upcoming feature, written by James Vanderbilt, revolves around the mythical place where it grants you eternal life if you drink from it. The Fountain of Youth is the subject of countless stories, with explorers often willing to kill one another for the chance to live forever.
The announcement for Fountain of Youth comes shortly after the trailer debut for Fletcher’s Ghosted, starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for the upcoming rom-com turned thriller “Ghosted,” which stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
The trailer shows Evans’ character Cole certain that Sadie (de Armas) is not just “ghosting” him, or ignoring his texts, after one date. Convinced they are meant to be together, he travels to London in what he hopes to be a romantic gesture, only to discover Sadie is not the person he thought, and is actually part of the CIA. What ensues is a spy-thriller where “action speaks louder than words.”
De Armas joins the film after her recent Oscar nomination for “Blonde.” Her credits also include “Deep Water,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “No Time to Die.” Evans has played Captain America in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as performed in “Before We Go,” “Gifted” and “Playing It Cool.” Evans and de Armas previously acted together in “Knives Out” and “The Gray Man.

Olympic competition has long been fertile ground for filmmakers across the world. Both documentary and feature film directors have centred their visions around the world’s largest sporting event, focusing their storytelling eye on the whirlwind of human sporting excellence. The inherent drama of the Olympic events draws enormous crowds and competitors from the four corners of the world, to share the spectacle of human excellence under the most breathtaking conditions.
While some filmmakers strive to capture the essence of the games, such as Kon Ichikawa’s triumphant three hour celebration of the 1964 games in Tokyo Olympiad, others seek to use the event as backdrop for the more human stories. Recent films such as Dexter Fletcher’s Eddie the Eagle, Craig Gillespie’s I,Tonya, Bennett Miller’s bleak and weighty Foxcatcher and even Steven Spielberg, whose 2005 film Munich stands alongside Kevin Macdonald’s gripping One Day in September, chronicled...

Richie Albright, who manned the drum kit for Waylon Jennings since the Sixties and was essential to the Outlaw country trailblazer’s signature rock-based sound, died suddenly Tuesday in Nashville. He was 81. A rep for Shooter Jennings, with whom Albright toured up until 2017, confirmed Albright’s death to Rolling Stone.
An Oklahoma native, Albright joined Jennings’ backing band the Waylors in 1964 in Arizona, and the group developed a fan base at the Tempe nightspot J.D.’s. Jennings’ first album, in fact, was named after the club, Waylon Jennings At J.

What first attracted you both to this project?
Tahar Rahim Kevin [Macdonald], first of all, because I worked with him before [in the director’s 2011 feature The Eagle]. He called me up and told me that he might have a good part for me. I didn’t know anything about Mohamedou’s story. We knew a lot about what happened at [Guantánamo] — but also, not really. I thought it was really interesting to tell the story in this perspective, in a humanistic way. Plus, the [script] was so moving, and I could almost see the movie [in my head].

Exclusive: In what’s to be expected given how virtual the Sundance Film Festival is this year, sources tell us that there won’t be a surprise screening.
While the pandemic has forced the festival to go online and branch out to those surviving arthouses during Covid to play its lineup, nothing beats the energy that comes from a live Sundance premiere or surprise screening in Park City, Ut. It’s that vibe which buyers make their acquisition decisions off of, and when it comes to secret screenings, it can impact the rollout of a film.
Note it’s not every year that the festival has a surprise screening; there wasn’t one last year.
However, in recent memory the biggest example of success emanating from one was when Universal and Blumhouse debuted Get Out in 2017, shooting Jordan Peele out of a cannon in his feature directorial debut. The socially...

The Summer Olympics are just a test of who can run fastest, jump highest, score the most goals. There’s real danger in the winter games! Try skiing down a mountain at high speeds, taking a sled through an icy slide, jumping as far as you can and not breaking your legs on a massive ski jump or not breaking your neck by falling on the ice. The best movies set at the Winter Olympics are about the underdogs who risked their lives and surprised the world…and Will Ferrell sliding crotch first across the ice. But they’re still exciting!

Mohamedou Ould Salahi endured unimaginable horror as an inmate of the U.S. government’s notorious Guantanamo Bay detention center for more than 14 years. In all that time, no charge was ever leveled against him, and with the help of his tireless lawyer Nancy Hollander, who weathered extreme criticism for representing terror suspects, he was finally granted his freedom in 2016. His story is the subject of director Kevin Macdonald’s new film The Mauritanian, based on the memoir Salahi wrote in confinement, in which Tahar Rahim telegraphs the pain and resolve of a casualty of America’s heavy-handed war on terror. Yet, as Rahim explains, it was a role he might have dismissed before reading it…

Late to the Oscar race is drama “The Mauritanian,” which finally settled on the title director Kevin Macdonald always wanted for the BBC film he started shooting in December 2019 under the working title “Prisoner 760.” Based on Mohamedou Ould Salahi’s bestselling 2015 memoir “Guantanamo Diary,” STXfilms will release the movie February 19, just in time for the Oscars. That outcome was far from certain.
“We had no distributor in place,” said Macdonald on the phone from London. “We couldn’t get the music score correct, so we were not finished as soon as we should have been. And Covid complicated things. We filmed this labor of love for no money, so we always wanted an awards film. It was the only way we felt to get attention.”
Rather than the original plan of screening at a discovery fall festival like Toronto or Telluride, the financiers sold a five-minute trailer at the 2020 Cannes virtual market to STX,...

Disney Plus is adding a great if often overlooked Hugh Jackman movie to its library this week. Among the titles going up on the Mouse House’s streaming service on Friday, December 18th is 2016’s sports comedy-drama Eddie the Eagle, as originally produced by 20th Century Fox. Taron Egerton stars in the title role of the charming biopic, with Jackman as the co-lead.
Eddie the Eagle is based on the real story of Michael “Eddie” Edwards, the first man to represent Great Britain at ski jumping in sixty years at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. The inexperienced Edwards had no chance of gaining a medal at the event, but his inspiring ambition made him a popular figure back in the day. As directed by Dexter Fletcher, the movie’s a true feel-good watch.

Evidence the sector is well-positioned to thrive in a post-pandemic, SVoD-driven market.
Producers dependent on UK independent distributors to finance their work and get it into cinemas have had a particularly anxious year. The holiday season is here and Pixar has a little gift for Disney+ subscribers.
After the animation studio’s next major effort was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the powers that be finally made the decision to release it on Disney’s streaming service. And that’s why you will now be able to watch Soul via Disney+ on Christmas Day. Soul stars Jamie Foxx as Joe Gardner – an inspiring jazz musician who finally gets his chance when his soul enters the Great Beyond.
Soul isn’t the only gift on Disney+ in December 2020. The sure-to-be-thrilling finale of The Mandalorian season 2 will arrive on Dec. 18. After those two beg exciting tentpoles, it’s pretty much business as usual for Disney+ this month (not that that’s necessarily a bad thing). An original movie of note, Safety, premieres on Dec. 11 and should at least be of interest to Clemson football fans.

His departure follows the exits of Zygi Kamasa and Nicola Pearcey.
Nick Manzi, the highly-respected head of productions and acquisitions at Lionsgate UK, is set to leave the company.
Lionsgate declined to comment but sources have confirmed Manzi’s departure is imminent. His exit will follow that of former Lionsgate Europe CEO Zygi Kamasa, who joined UK outfit Marv Films as group CEO earlier this year. It was also recently confirmed Nicola Pearcey will be stepping down as president of Lionsgate UK and Europe by the end of the year.
Further redundancies are understood to be taking place in the company’s London office.

The Mouse House recently revealed that they’re looking to make exclusive streaming content their number one priority moving forward, which is just as well because at the moment, Disney Plus doesn’t have too many options for original movies and TV series that have the potential to grab headlines and dominate the online conversation.
Sure, Hamilton was a huge success, but aside from that and, obviously The Mandalorian, there haven’t been a whole lot of high profile titles added in 2020. Mulan may have generated a lot of attention despite being locked behind a paywall, but it’s probably fair to say that for the most part, the blockbuster received the opposite kind of publicity from what Disney were hoping for.

There are only two months left to go in this truly hellish year and relatively new streaming service HBO Max is trying to make the best of them. While most other streamers recover from Halloween and get prepared for Christmas, HBO Max is using November 2020 to fill out its servers.
