An Enjoyable Competition Show
atlasmb16 July 2020
This is a competition show in which blue collar workers demonstrate their toughness and willingness to tackle difficult tasks. While each competitor battles for a grand prize, each of them is a member of a team and can earn money during team competitions.

The first episode dealt with tasks around a railroad yard. The second took place in an automotive junkyard.

I enjoy watching them try to solve problems on the fly. It is not all about brute force. But muscles---and knowing how to use them---definitely come into play.

A little hokey.

I like the show. But I'd like it more if it weren't over dramatized. Also, I don't really get the host for this show. Where's Mike Rowe when you need him?

Good... And bad
cujorocky11 November 2021
My wife and I like the show, love the competition, but the irritating, constant injection of quotes and comments, and philosophies from contestants voices overlapping the physical challenges and little mini interviews disrupt the flow of competition. Phil's non stop screaming throughout the show is bizarre. Reminds you of Rogan in Fear Factor. But this year, the non stop air time they give to that loser Sarah is intolerable. She loses all the time, yet we are subject to her incessant points of view, opinions, philosophies, patting herself on the back like she is Socrates or Plato. She has ALL the answers.... From the losers box. She gets way, way, way too much air time.

Great Show
dwm-6249330 July 2020
In reading some of the remarks, I say a couple of people need to get a life. Race does not have to be the center of everything. Who cares who built the railroads. These are a great group of hard working every day people. With a chance to make some money. Great job Phil Keoghan, for developing this great show.

Get some real people
norbertkane18 March 2021
What a weak group of supposed hard workers. 3 have already fallen off the show and most of the other cast is weak. Who is selecting these weak people? They are not representative of hard working American people! The cast from last year was twice as tough... and twice as enjoyable to watch.

Outstanding!! Fresh!
davis78530 August 2020
Hard work truly does pay off and can't be more evident than the contestants on this show! They come from all walks of life and all different backgrounds; but they have one thing in common! Hard work = prosperity and success! The competitions are fun to watch and the group and individual segments make the show very interesting!

PS Ignore the trolling keyboard warriors complaining about the show...it was absolutely worth your time!

Fun to watch!
mallen-4807814 October 2023
It's fun to watch, but few of the competitors have any basic life skills. I am a retired chemist, but prior to that, did HVAC, was a framer, and worked in a coal mine. But, I can hang drywall, remove an alternator, drain oil, etc. Are there that many people out there that cannot use basic tools? Although, I may have punched out at the window washing. Even if they are great at their jobs, especially construction-related jobs, how can they be that clueless as to other trades? Some competitors surprise me with their grit, and others that I thought would be tough are...just not. But, I still watch it. I do yell at the TV a lot though. LOL!

Are we still pretending this is an accurate representation of the workforce?
MovieCriticOnline26 November 2021
Are we still pretending this is an accurate representation of America's workforce?

This is just ridiculous. They had to comb America to find women that do these type of jobs, but of course with the new equity and diversity programming at the networks they had to create the illusion that it's 50/50% of America's workforce.

How many women are head of fire departments? 2? 3? If that. A woman cement mason? They probably found the only one in America and again we have to pretend that this is the norm. It's ridiculous. There are so many bad implications of this I could go on for hours.

I hardly finished one episode. Can we get 2005 back?

True reality
gwenrking27 August 2020
I love this show. It shows how you can overcome different dynamics and personalities to come together as a team. It's not about who has the best skills, but who gives all for a team and prove to yourself you are not a quitter. Everyday hard working average people is what this show is about.

The negative reviews on here are hilarious!
derek-076063 September 2020
Don't listen to the negative reviews on this show. People complaining about the "corporate machine" exploiting hard working people is ridiculous. These people love what they do and they are using their hard work to win $250K and a nice truck. These people don't complain even when they lose and the entire show has positive vibes. The challenges are unique and some of them are outright brutal (in a good way). This is a great show and it's a great depiction of America. If you want to watch a show about people complaining about hard work then I'm sure there's a European version being released eventually.

Worthless
njdevilfire11 August 2023
I enjoy watching the BS "hollyweird" thinks of blue collar jobs.

Women absolutely SUCK compared to men in the fields the morons who thought up this show come up with.

Having been a "blue collar" worker for 30+ year (in addition to the military) I have yet to meet the woman who can do (or even compete) with any guy on the job. What a joke. The fact that this show exists is a testament to the general stupidity that pervades America these days. The entire reason women get padi less is because they don't engage in the SAME fields of work men do. Don't believe me??? The Dept.of LAbor backs me up with FACTS.

Drop the PC B. S. and show what ACTUAL physical labor requires. If this was a typing competition... maybe it would be more accurate.

Facts and math... the banes of the liberals.

Authentic & Heartwarming
markhayter23 February 2021
I was skeptical at first, but really loved this show, especially the 1st season.

  • Great competitors
  • Creative challenges
  • Very well-produced
  • Teared up quite a bit

Individual and Team aspects also made it compelling throughout season. Don't listen to the haters, just give one episode a try, and you'll likely be hooked

mediocre propaganda series
treanewsome9 July 2020
This CBS series fails miserably, It comes off as pushy and as propaganda in an effort to get people back to work and reach conservative viewers. Reigniting the false stereotype of winners win and profit off of tough work, determination, vigor, Can you be tough as nails and pull up your bootstraps high enough? Of course America aims to profit off of grunt work while many of the smartest minds use brain and fingertips to own the companies that the grunt workers get employed by.

Reality competition with people you want to root for
bherrin241 October 2020
This first season was outstanding. Every contestant brought something great to it, and you see how real people can come together to push each other to be the best they can be. You see how much everyone wants to win, but more importantly, prove to themselves they can succeed. This makes you root for them all. Even after they get eliminated, they stay on for the team competitions and that's a nice aspect that keeps every episide more interesting. Its one of my favorite competition shows.

Sad commentary...
deweesekeith9 August 2020
I watched one episode of "Tough As Nails" and came away from it shaking my head at how sad it is when "work" is exploited as a television game show or the equivalent of a WWF event. That some people need the motivation of a prize and being hailed as "tough" in order to work hard is flabbergasting. That working hard becomes an entertainment is just wrong.

Here's an idea for a television show: a series of documentaries showing every day, average U.S. citizens working hard but NOT as part of a competition or for a prize. Show people working hard just because it's the right thing to do for society/community. Show people working hard to help others. Show people working hard without the need to be a "winner."

This program is just one more in a series of sad commentaries on life in the current era of the United States.

Great Job for Those Essential Workers
shelbythuylinh16 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
That over in the workers there. As that they are from construction and how that they are blue collar workers. How they are ordinary people that do very dangerous jobs usually and how that they put it all on the line for the rest of the world and country.

Great job indeed for Phil Keoghan for creating this show as with those in mind. Savage Crew and Dirty Hands as those are the crews they are in.

Great Clean Show from Phil and his Wife!
kevnlew-5858315 April 2024
My husband and I have really enjoyed watching this show! It shows hard working people compete for cash prizes. There are team challenges and individual challenges. There is not a bunch of unnecessary drama, but there are some tearful moments. Phil really seems to enjoy himself and does a great job doing play by play narration like a sports announcer! The people all have positive attitudes. It's inspiring and heartwarming. This is a show you can watch with your family and not be embarrassed. There are a few curse words, but that's it. It's sometimes surprising who wins the 200,000 and the super duty Ford Truck.

History not in the making
rosiesgrand13 July 2020
The railroad compitators worked very hard. Why was it so difficult. Did no one know or care about "The Gandy Dancers" after the people who build the cross country US railroad from the East to the Mid-West. Just so you know the Gandy Dancers were Black and the sancing was coordinated so they all worked together. Also, from the West to the Mid-West the railroad was build by Asians.

What Reality Shows Should Be Like
LabsRGr811 November 2021
Wonderful show, wonderful host, wonderful contestants. The values system the show brings out is right up there. It brings out the best in the contestants in teams and individually. There is respect, hard work, honesty, compassion, inclusivity and generosity...all the values that take people through the toughest times and helped build this great nation! No lying, cheating, backstabbing, paybacks, or two-faced "strategizing" that pull people down instead of up. I love that Phil is so humble, so motivating and so down-to-earth. This is what the real world should look like, what we should be teaching to our kids---the example that building up is better, that competition is great when it's fair, that you shouldn't use or manipulate people, that even if you don't win it all or have the best skills, you are valuable because you have a part and are part of this world.

Not a great competition show
TurboTerminator15 March 2021
I am big fan of Phil Keoghan and his Amazing Race show. So, when I read that he has a new show called Tough-as-Nails.... I had great expectations from this one. I have watched entire first season and was disappointed. The show is ok if you don't have anything else to watch...but otherwise wouldn't recommend it. The work aspect has been made into a game show and various competitors participate for a 200k prize money along with several other team prizes. The is supposed to be a reality show but seems to be extremely scripted. While the show is supposed to be about people who are tough-as-nails.... they seem to be overly emotional and talk a lot about their feelings. Don't think I will watch the second season.
