Some much-needed time to breathe with a shocking ending
frankiesilver-9183612 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode keeps the quality of 11C going. We start with a totally bad*** scene from Daryl that is easily one of my favorite moments from him this season. After that though, Carol's very clever deal seems to solve our group's issue. While it's weird at first after the high tension of 11x17, I think this was a good point in the story to catch up with the group.

I love what we get from Pamela here. They continue to add depth to her character, making her a more reasonable but equally frightening villain compared to Lance.

The conversations between Judith and Daryl are really endearing. Judith has such a big heart, but Daryl isn't used to the burden of taking care of a kid and is trying to do the best he can for everyone. He never was much of a leader or father figure, so I'm happy they're playing into that rather than acting like he's something he's not.

One storyline that I don't think makes any sense or there's any room for this late into the show is Lydia and Elijah's romance. Elijah seemed to have much better chemistry with Kelly anyway. I'm also still not a fan of the Negan/Annie romance. I can't bring myself to care about a relationship built off-screen. Rather than focusing on these arcs, I'd rather Lydia get more screen time with Negan since she is seemingly not on his spin-off.

Of course, the nice downtime is a moment of false security. The ending of this episode was such a huge surprise. I love how Lance is still making plays from a cell, and I was genuinely convinced for a second that Eugene was getting Rick's comic death.

I'm mixed about how I feel about Sebastian dying this early, but it was a chilling scene. I just hope they don't write themselves into a corner with this big of a change from the source material, and that the final episodes have a different lingering threat present such as the CRM. Only time will tell, but man I'm excited.

Ok, I guess...
justdan20233 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what to say about this episode. It's a bit dull than the previous episode but that doesn't mean it's not great. This episode gives probably the most character development for almost everyone in this episode and it gave me a sort of deja vu.

Daryl being Uncle Daryl to Judith is really heartwarming, Carol and Daryl talks about Sophia, then Negan and his wife talks about their baby, Ezekiel wanting to stay, and Carol and Lydia talking about Henry. Damn, last episode they talked about Glenn, then Sophia, Rick and Henry. They're really pulling my heartstrings right here.

Anyway, other than being slightly dull, this episode is amazing and I can't wait for the next episode where we get to see the variants!!!

Great episode fell flat at the end
matp-476003 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There were some genuinely touching moments between certain characters this episode: Rosita and Gabe, Zeke and Carol, Daryl and Judith.

However it was the action-packed ending which fell flat and was nonsensical at times. Walkers are let loose on a crowd and hilariously they mostly only go for the main characters despite there being hundreds of living people around them. Also its hilarious that one walker can kill any unnamed background character with ease but as soon as a main character gets grabbed the walkers are useless all of a sudden. Like Stephanie (who never sees any action) can easily hold off a walker but Sebastian gets easily killed by one only because the Plot needs him to die.

Plus, Daryl and Judith talk about saving and protecting everyone, but are firing guns into a stampeding crowd. I might be nitpicking but the whole action sequence at the end just was full of problems, it kind of broke the immersion.

In any case, it was a decent episode and I'm glad they are wrapping up the Commonwealth plotline soon. It has run its course and we either need a time jump or a location change before the end to keep things fresh.

Also, all the references to Rick are very annoying when it seems pretty clear that he won't show up in the main series, only in the spin-off. So yeah, if they could stop baiting us with Rick that would be nice.

Insane Ending
tristan_192 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A New Deal features a lot of sadness and nostalgia, and you feel the end of the show is near. Cailey Fleming is phenomenal and portrays Judith in such a wonderful but nuanced manner. Daryl still continues to shine and explores parenting complications.

The whole thing is a build up for Sebastian to come out and do a speech after Hornsby has been framed. Pamela wants to control the situation. However, Eugene and Max have other plans, and the end is brilliantly foreshadowed by their talk with Hornsby.

They are ready to burn it all indeed, and Sebastian doesn't help the situation, he just cowards and turns to his grandfather. The ending is classic Walking Dead and the imagery is astounding. The walkers have been let loose inside the community, and the people won't help Sebastian one bit, who decided to go after Max.

It all plays like a chaotic event and the people are left contemplating Sebastian's face getting devoured by a walker, just like Noah in Season 5. The implosion is complete, and the tape plays over the credits.

Overall, really loved the build up, but it's the finale that make this episode truly memorable. Can't wait for next week !

A New Deal pushes TWD into an audacious new direction
caasijordan4 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In A New Deal, the show continues to deliver quality acting, great directing, a decent plot, bold dialogue choices, and lightning-fast pacing.

This episode, along with the last, stars more of our cast than any other episode this season. While this allows for our talented cast to show off some compelling character interactions, it will be very hard to pull off a satisfying ending to the show with such precious screen time being divided among so many characters. Despite this, it seems they have chosen to keep the cast bloated for now.

This choice naturally leads to faster pacing, which this episode handles very well, unlike the last one. We get great scenes between notable duos (Carekiel, Caryl, Rosabriel) and not-so-notable duos (Steugene and Yumagna), as well as nice ensemble scenes at the beginning, strong character development for Judith and Daryl, and a shockingly satisfying story surrounding Lance, Mercer, Pamela, and Sebastian.

The only minor issue I have about this episode is that the dialogue is oversaturated with nostalgia, and it seems forced at times. Though it can be argued that the lines hold enough emotional weight to justify themselves.

What I personally enjoyed about this episode is the metaphor of Carol's "new deal" for FDR's New Deal programs. Both provide short term relief, setting a precedent for governments playing key roles in economic success. This plays well into the classist themes written into the plot this season.

Perhaps the most important part of this episode is that it is a springboard for dramatic deviations from the comic. Killing Sebastian is an excellent move that expedites the comic ending and allows the show to introduce more variables in the coming episodes. Whether or not introducing walker variants and the Civic Republic is the right decision for the coda of TWD, it stands that this episode perfectly paves the way for this bold new direction.

A New Deal
bobcobb3018 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, a little bit of chaos on the show. We also got a death too, not a particularly big one, but one that will add a fun element to the remainder of this series as we sort out what will happen to the rest.

I like chaos on this show, and it is something The Walking Dead used to be full of, but we have not gotten much of it in awhile.

I just want to see the Governor of the Commonwealth go down at some point. They did an excellent job of casting her because you absolutely hate her guts. That was not the case with another character on this show who infamously was referred to as the Governor.

Almost perfect
stoners-22 October 2022
Literally edge of my seat. The tension hasn't been this intense since season 7. The end of this episode was quite satisfying, and the gore in this episode is quite nasty and had me and the wife flinching several times. Judith is looking so old at this point and getting tall, I really hope they continue with the character in the spin offs though I doubt the actress would carry over, maybe a time jump and re-cast? I am deeply concerned that Eugene is going to get the Rick death from the comic books. Unfortunately it is clear as a bell that he will be shot in retaliation from Pamela Milton directed at Stephanie.

Not bad... but really weak
ElvisSavir7 October 2022
I dont feel like this is the last season and that just 6 episodes are missing to reach the finale. This is weird, but I am not excited to see what is coming next, because everything seems so repetitive and boring.

I was expecting more dangerous situations, constant fights, a lot of walkers, and this is just like a filler episode.

I really hope they bring a great finale beause I watched this tv show for eleven years. I am fan, used to be a great fan. One of those who reads theories, create new ones, research for details, now, I care more about for the next trailer to see if something good will come.

Founders Day, what a memorable day and what an mesmerizing hour of television "A New Deal" gave us
Holt3447 October 2022
The premise of episode 11.18 titled "A New Deal": Carol makes a deal with Pamela to wipe the slate clean on behalf of her friends. Aaron, Jerry, Lydia and Elijah get on the road to Oceanside to fill them in on a plan. The Commonwealth celebrates Founders Day. This episode contains some brilliant editing, transitions and pacing. Corey Reed & Kevin Deiboldt penned the script for 11.18 and I have only good things about their work in this episode, the overall writing was brilliant and the dialogue felt right. These two have become two of my favorite writers for the latest season, their work is appreciated. Overseen by Angela Kang, the writing for this episode is consistent of the previous episodes in Part 1 and 2 if not better. The episode uses the big budget wisely, making it brilliant both technically and the acting and so on, the camera work are brilliant and visually a great episode, an overall impressive production.

Jeffrey F. January directed "A New Deal" and he actually did a terrific job, having been a second unit director since the show's start and a director since 2014, he know both the actors and story so well but most importantly the show so well. The episode contains yet again superb drama with plenty of suspension and tension to keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat. There are so many great scenes in this episode and there's not one single bad performance throughout the entire episode. Scenes that are beautifully shot, scenes that are acted with such brilliance, and every other department and people working on the episode, terrific work. The close ups used, the attention to detail and all the shots in the nature, they nailed it on the camera side of things. The cinematography is once again breathtaking and incredible, just right for the show, the way it was shot and so on, simply brilliant. The sets were detailed and perfect, and so are the art and production design. I also found the effects to be fantastic in this episode, practical effects always makes it so more real, and The Walking Dead is known for their practical effects and they didn't let us down for this episode. Superb sound design and a musical score both gripping and dramatic. It's one of many things on the technical side of things that the show succeeds perfectly with.

"A New Deal" has lots of things that fans of The Walking Dead will like. But it's the writing and the characters actions that makes this episode so memorable, but of course the acting. Norman Reedus was brilliant as Daryl, but other terrific performances were Josh Hamilton as Lance Hornsby and Teo Rapp-Olsson as Sebastian Milton. Honorable mention goes to Cailey Fleming as Judith Grimes. Teo Rapp-Olsson have done a brilliant performance as Sebastian in the entire season, he does a great job in the role. Though there weren't as much action in this as the previous, there were more dialogue and dramatic, thus giving the actors more time to shine.

This episode kept the story going and makes sure that you should stay for the final episodes. I've always tried to look past the Covid restrictions but I've been thinking more and more about how its hurting the Commonwealth arc, it feels more restricted than the possibilities it once presented. It feels too small and now as a fan of the source material, we didn't even get the American Football sequence, instead getting a wrestling scene. The thing of this criticism of mine is how it once again makes the settlement which is supposed to be one of the universe's biggest smaller, there is so much meaning behind that scene in the graphic novel and it feels so off with it being made into wrestling for the show. Other than that, I thought it was a great episode. No spoilers from me but that ending was brilliantly executed thanks to the writing and direction, seriously, it was epic.

The episode raises thought-provoking questions about the lengths people will go to for security and the moral dilemmas that arise when faced with difficult choices
fernandoschiavi5 April 2024
Underground, the standoff escalates when Daryl takes Lance hostage just as Carol, Negan, Pamela, and Mercer arrive. Although the three of them manage to convince Daryl to surrender, he brutally stabs Lance in the hand as revenge for his earlier actions. Sometime later as the Commonwealth prepares to celebrate their anniversary, Carol confronts Daryl about what he did to Lance and confesses that he was trying to be more like Rick. Meanwhile an imprisoned Lance has Shira and Calhoun murder some Commonwealth janitors, and Max has a talk with Sebastian during which he rants on how the Commonwealth citizens are too civilized and weak not realizing she was recording the conversation. The following day, during the celebration, Sebastian prepares to deliver a recorded speech to the people but Max and Eugene play Max's recording instead. During the commotion, the reanimated janitors wander into the crowd, a vengeful Sebastian attempts to murder Max by pushing her on top of one of the walkers but Eugene saves her by throwing the walker on Sebastian who is severely bitten. The walker is put down by Judith but Sebastian dies of his wounds as a horrified crowd looks on.

In this episode, the survivors are faced with a new challenge as they negotiate a deal with the Commonwealth, leading to a series of tense and dramatic events that test their loyalty and resolve.

The episode begins with the survivors meeting with the leaders of the Commonwealth to discuss a trade agreement. As negotiations progress, tensions rise as the survivors realize the true cost of the deal and the compromises they must make to secure their future.

One of the standout scenes in "A New Deal" is when Maggie confronts the Commonwealth leaders about their treatment of the lower-class citizens, highlighting the inequalities within the community. This scene adds depth to Maggie's character and raises compelling questions about the nature of power and privilege.

Thematically, "A New Deal" explores the idea of sacrifice and compromise in the pursuit of a better future. The episode raises thought-provoking questions about the lengths people will go to for security and the moral dilemmas that arise when faced with difficult choices.

In conclusion, "A New Deal" is a compelling episode that delves into the complexities of negotiation and compromise in a post-apocalyptic world. With its tense scenes, thought-provoking themes, and strong character development, this episode is a standout in the final season of "The Walking Dead."

Good one
theknownames5 July 2023
Well, it iS the final season and frankly there isn't anywhere else left to go ( as far as these communities , human nature, what people are striving for or where it all goes ) I found this to be the best episode of the season so far . It's never going to be what it was and has to end somewhere. I bet most of us have ideas about the many directions this could be going but I hoped for more along the lines of Rick and Michonne at this point, for an explanation and more of a true final season. After 12 years of watching this , we are back at a community so sure it's time to end but really felt like they could have rallied for this last season and not just use it to jump off to a new endeavor. Anyway I'm going on this season alone and the second half is quite engaging so for the seasons standard 8/10.

What is going on?
olliebenet27 October 2022
It's just a terrible episode full of empty long boring conversations about leaving or not leaving, and I can't fathom why anyone would care. And if it's not long boring conversations about "are you coming? You aren't, are you?" "Let me tell you a long boring story about what I used to do before the walkers" "let me answer with a long boring story about what I did" "where's this person gone now?" "Oh here they are" "let's always be together" "we should stay/go" "where does it end". I just don't understand how any viewer could care less what town people go to to hang out, heck, go back and forth for all I care.

The Founders Day
claudio_carvalho24 January 2024
Daryl has subdued Hornsby with his knife at his throat when Mercer, Pamela, Carol and Negan arrive. Carol explains that she made a deal with Pamela to clean the name of Sebastian and blame Hornsby for all the crimes. In return, she will provide all they need to rebuild Alexandria and Hilltop. Pamela tells the residents that Hornsby will be brought to justice. The group prepares to pack their stuffs to return to their communities in the Founders Day. However, Eugene and Max plot a plan to frame Sebastian during the party, and she records his words about the residents in Pamela's office. Meanwhile, Shira and Calhoun kill the cleaning crew in a corner following the orders of Hornsby. During the rally, Eugene plays the tape of Sebastian's words, and the cleaning crew resurrects bringing havoc to the population. Sebastian chases Max and pull her onto a walker, but Eugene saves her and Sebastian is bitten instead.

"New Deal" is a great episode of "The Walking Dead", since it is the end of the scum Sebastian. However, what was the intention of Eugene (always Eugene, the most stupid character in the whole series) and Max? Do they have a substitute for Pamela, or only intend to overthrow her? In a time of chaos, revolution does not seem to be a good plan to the people that was slaughtered by walkers. Carol had made a deal with Pamela that would help Alexandria and Hilltop. But Eugene, who betrayed the Alexandrians in the past joining Negan's group to make bullets for him, now has this incredible plan to create a riot that will certainly jeopardize his friends and offer no alternative. Sometimes the course of "The Walking Dead" disappoints. My vote is eight.

Wow! Action, Suspense & Thrills all Day Long!
panagiotis199322 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Love that this episode started with flashbacks, nice touch. Daryl stabbing Lance's hand was sweet. Wait so Lance will face justice for his crime and there is no war happening? They now have a deal with Ms Milton? This sucks, I was hyped for an all out war, i hope in the next episodes things will change. Did the people at Commonwealth just forget about Sebastian's crimes? Negan becoming a dad, I wonder if that will play a role in his spin-off show. Our characters leaving the Commonwealth is definitely something I like. Daryl is the most awesome dad ever, being vulnerable with Judith and everything, I don't care what you say. Lol we now have wrestling in the TWD universe, I don't know it seemed a bit ridiculous to me, I enjoyed the metalcore track playing while they fight though. Damn the chaos at the Commonwealth was delicious. Finally Sebastian gets what he deserves! I enjoyed it so much. Ok this episode was fantastic, action, thrills, suspense it's all there! Bravo! Its a 9/10 for me.

Oh dear
cmarlborough10 October 2022
Oh come on... I love the walking dead, love the central characters and am watching because I can't give up so close to the end but I really do feel gutted that the writing is so poor. The acting from the Commonwealth characters is just dreadful and scenes aren't at all joined up. We leap from plot to plot with no continuity, sometimes no point at all, I feel like a traitor giving such low scores but this is far, far worse than the last season of Game of thrones. It's everything- the cinematography, the music, scripts, acting, direction. None of it works and it's starting to feel like a really bad joke. Gutted.

How, how, how, how, how....
rossmyers-5781711 October 2022
HOW!? Is this episode currently at 8/10?!.

This show has become a total embarrassment.

I've found myself carrying on watching it, just to watch in amazement at the continued free fall.

Ya know what?, don't even bring Rick back, it's not worth it anymore. It's beyond saving.

Each and every episode this season has been laughably bad, and at this point this show has 4 or 5 decent actors... and one of them is the girl playing Judith. The Eugene storyline is hilarious, and the love interest is beyond unbelievable.

The Walking Dead has had some great moments in TV, and the first series will go down as one of the best seasons of any show, but I honestly wish this season 11 was never completed.

Just end it and give us whatever spin-off film you've got to disapoint us with, and call it a day.

Jesus!

There is absolutely nothing good anymore in this show ! The acting, the story, everything in this is bad or annoying or just pathetic... You'll think it would get better because we're near the end of the show but no, since season nine they keep digging and digging and try to get us care about useless people and their feelings... WE DON'T CARE !!!!! It's not working anymore i'm at the point where i don't even care if Rick or Michonne comes back or anything i guess i just want to know how it ends by curiousity but that's it there is nothing enjoyable anymore ! The good reviews can't possibly be serious !!

Filler
Leofwine_draca1 December 2022
A very average episode now and one that smacks of filler. I'm astonished that there are only six episodes left after this one and yet they're still treading water. Too much time is spent on getting characters from one place to the next which is never very interesting. The political shenanigans fail to inspire and the new 'villains' must be some of the least imposing ever. This one builds to a final twist ending which you'll see coming a mile off if you're got any idea at all of how this show works. Let's hope it starts to pick up a head of steam once we move into the next few episodes, but I won't hold my breath.

This isn't The Walking Dead anymore...
talhacarrim13 October 2022
I'm so disappointed in these last few seasons of TWD...it goes against everything that made the show famous initially. I have zero interest in the current storyline. The whole Sebastian & Milton crap is boring and just not TWD.

What made this show what it was was the WALKERS, and the threat they pose to humanity. They've now become occasional 'guest characters' who pose zero threat anymore. When I first watched this show, I imagined it ending with the walkers being eradicated from earth in some way that the 'gang' figure out. Rather, it's become a 'political "thriller"'...if I wanted that I would watch House of Cards or the West Wing etc. I came here for the zombies and the terror that it brings and the togetherness it forces from the cast...not who's president of a community. Whoever was in charge of the storytelling direction for the past few seasons has ruined this show. A great show initially, going out on a complete WHIMPER if they don't change things QUICKLY...I still have hope Rick might come back but I don't have hope in these lot.

I'm sorry...what?
contacttylerobwallispro11 October 2022
Ok, every single member of the crew of this episode at all phases of production need to go back and observe the very first episode of this show.

That was greatness, this, was scraping the sides of a bad made for TV movie from the 90s. The cinematography was trash (overexposed to the degree of a student short), the set designs were worse and worse yet is the story itself. The zombies are no longer the threat, they are the hero's sent to save us from the abizmality of not only the story. But the very work of the film makers behind the camera. And this is how they are ending this show? Is this the lows we've slumped to?

Why am I watching this?
Rob-O-Cop6 October 2022
Six hundred words on this limping lame duck of a show, dragged down from it's once edgy and interesting perch by bad budgeting, slipping all that profit into cameras and lights and not into script, although to be fair, the script was never that amazing.

Why am I watching this? Is the question everyone is asking themselves, and the answer is wishful thinking and force of habit, just like the zombies we keep coming back to what used to be reasonably fertile ground for entertainment and we keep getting served cold porridge and we still think things are going to change back to how they were. Kang is a terrible show runner. Watching her over explain her lame scripts is just painful. All smoke and mirrors as she phones in her segments for authenticity.

Do yourself a favor and seek out better shows, this one is dead. Try Mr Inbetween, and Severance. 2 of the best shows from the last 3 years. There is still good TV being made, just not this show.

Terrible episode.
Adam-Piper2 October 2022
TERRIBLE EPISODE. There is 6 episodes left of this show, is this SERIOUSLY how they want to spend their time?

Constantly hinting at something whilst never actually getting there, feels like its been that way the last 10 episodes.

A wrestling match? Seriously? The Milton kid said "friggin" they actually WROTE that...

I used to be such a fan of this show. Also there was like 8 zombies max, and like 40 guards, how did like 20 people die? Also why was everyone running in different directions, isn't the commonwealth large? Why was everyone standing in the courtyard?

Everyone says, they shot this show under covid protocols, ok fine, I would have rathered they just delay it further rather than making THIS.

I cannot believe this is how they want to end the show, with just repeating boring concepts of brain dead characters dying.

6 episodes left, and THIS is how they spend there time. Actually just horrible.

What a send off to once the strongest show on TV.
liquidsnake-271219 October 2022
No wonder most of the lead actors have abandoned this show as the script is worst than a Late night erotica movie.

The last few episodes have been the worst the show has had in it's last 11 seasons and that is a huge say given how many bad episodes we have endured in this 11 years.

It's like the showrunner is running on a budget less than that of a Telenova which is why the characters seen duller than the sexy teens in a horror movie.

It's a sad day in walking dead Universe which has given such wonderful episodes and videogames to everyone around the world to endure such painful bad writing in it's closing moments.

Six episodes to go after this and STILL nothing is happening. Boring scene after boring scene. How are people reviewing this and giving it 9/10!? I'll tell you how. They haven't watched it. The details they include in those reviews are all in the promo materials. There's no way you could watch this and give it more than two or three stars, it's just so mind numbingly dull and boring. I'm going to finish the season as I'm too stubborn to stop now but make no mistake, this is not a fun show to watch anymore. Remember the first few seasons where genuinely exciting things happened all the time? How far this show has fallen is mind blowing.
