A scary, funny Hollywood nightmare
AllenJones6616 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
A friend of mine told me to watch this on Youtube and I thought it was literally one of the best things I've seen on YouTube in my life! (which going by what is normally on YouTube is not as high of compliment as it seems, but still...pretty amazing). The acting by Lia Johnson is totally believable as a cool but catered to film actress (I was trying to place where I've seen her before, and it was because I had just seen her in "Drag Me to Hell" the night before) and this Danny Callaway dude who played the Waiter is like Norman Bates on crack, totally hilarious and scary at the same time. A little slow at the outset but it kind of sucks you in like an old school "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" crossed with an episode of "Entourage." Basically, it's every industry player's worst nightmare - a crazy Waiter who won't let them leave the restaurant until they've accepted him into their world - but it's so well shot, with great music, great acting and some gross-out thrills and humor along the way. All in all, a scary, funny Hollywood nightmare.

Like "Tales from the Crypt" meets "Entourage"
horror-fan-216 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this short, or I guess it's a pilot according to their website (which was also pretty cool.) If it's a pilot, somebody please put this on TV! Seriously, it's way better than that horror anthology series "Tales From the Darkside" that is always on Chiller these days, and that was done by George Romero who I love. Okay, so basically I think I get what they're trying to do here, it's like a "Tales From the Crypt" meets "Entourage", horror tales from people trying to get in, stay in or get out of Hollywood, which is like totally funny, and also completely like how my friends and I experience Hollywood. I thought the acting was frigging' awesome and some of the camera shots like the one above the fan, or the zooming into the lead actress eye at the end -- very cool. I'm totally quoting that line to my friends "pizza...what the f--- does L.A. have to do with pizza!" Yeah, coming from New York, that line cracked me up. And his whole pitch, so awesome. You should watch the whole thing, but if you just watched Act II with the pitch of his terrible movie, so funny...I won't give that away. You got to see it. All in all, I give it an 8 only because I thought it'd be more violent and faster paced like the trailer, but I'll be waiting for more episodes for sure.

The Hollywood Twilight Zone
BillyLopezArt16 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Coming from somebody who has lived their whole life in Hollywood, and wants nothing more than to leave this god forsaken town, yet every time I do, I can't wait to get back, that's what Hollywoodn't is like. You can't get out!! Just like the characters. It's like a bad dream that you want to see over and over because it's just so twisted and it hurts so good. You got this movie star and a director locked in a restaurant over night as a Waiter tortures them with pitching them his script, pretty hilarious, and scary - not so much like in a Rob Zombie or Eli Roth kind of a way, but more like thriller or psychological scares, but when he pops up out of nowhere at one point the sound effects scared me. Mostly the camera work and music are the stars of this but the actors do a great job, I really believed the Waiter guy was going to blow a blood vessel in his head when he's pitching them in the kitchen, I loved it. That's one dark dude who made this.

The perfect Hollywood nightmare scenario
SamMonte197916 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
There are many reasons to recommend "Hollywoodn't", from it's gorgeous cinematography, it's powerful score and it's sense of humor seamlessly interwoven with it's sense of horror. I don't want to reveal too much, but according to their website, they're trying to launch this as a full fledged series, which would be great! I'd love to see a well done horror show about the dark side of Hollywood. I was a big big fan of David Lynch's "Mullholland Dr." and had heard that it was originally conceived as a one hour drama, but the plug was pulled at the last moment. "Hollywoodn't" is not of that caliber, and it's much lighter and old school horror movie in it's tone, but I think the filmmaker was channeling Lynch combined with a healthy dose of John Carpenter when he came up with this tale. The guy who plays the director in this is hilarious, he reminded me of a Brett Ratner interview I once watched. All of the acting is superb. I think writer/director Jeremy Sklar has a great idea here and a great eye for visuals and a great ear for dialog and music. I'll watch out for this show if it makes it on, otherwise, I'll just keep an eye out for this filmmaker's work which shows a lot of promise.
