10. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Opening up with the modern classic that revived the zombie apocalypse genre, The Walking Dead presents the least scary undead ever. Sure, there are many of them, but they are agonizingly slow, prone to decomposing and falling apart, dumb as rocks, easy to kill or capture, and ultimately don’t last for too long without feeding.
9. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Similarly to the walkers from our previous entry, Shaun of the Dead’s zombies aren’t exactly a menace. They’re almost as slow and stupid, but they have a little something going for them. Unlike Twd’s walkers, these zombies can distinguish the living by their sounds, not just blindly search for the noise source. Better stay quiet!
8. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
This was the hardest entry to place in our list. Ppz’s zombies are just like normal people: not only are they intelligent,...

Ariana Greenblatt, who appeared opposite Margot Robbie in last year’s Barbie, will be pulling a rabbit out of her hat.
The actress is joining the ensemble cast of Now You See Me 3, Lionsgate’s long-in-the-works installment of its heist caper thrillers.
Many of the original cast — Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco — are expected to return. The original movies also starred Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo, although it’s not clear if those two will return.
Ruben Fleischer is directing the movie, which garnered a mention last week at Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon.
Lionsgate had no comment on the casting, and it’s unclear who wrote the script. Seth Grahame-Smith, the genre scribe behind The Lego Batman Movie and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Eric Warren have penned drafts over the years.

Paramount is looking to get a new Star Trek film in cinemas in 2025 – but why this adventure, and where might things go? A few thoughts.
Another week, another Star Trek film announcement. So currently goes the online discourse for the seemingly endless array of Star Trek cinematic announcements we have experienced for almost ten years since the last big screen endeavour, Star Trek Beyond, in 2016.
As I in part chronicle in my book Lost Federations: The Unmade History of Star Trek, that decade has seen us face promises of movies including Chris Hemsworth returning as Captain James T Kirk’s legendary father in a time travel installment; Noah Hawley of Fargo fame penning a tale about a deadly virus (perhaps understandably shelved after a certain pandemic…); directors including Matt Shakman and Sj Clarkson coming and going; even Quentin Tarantino considering turning The Original Series gangster episode ‘A Piece of the Action’ into a movie event.

In scientific terms, double blind refers to an experiment in which neither the subjects nor those in charge of the experiment know who is getting the drug and who is getting a placebo. The new Irish thriller Double Blind, not to be confused with another medical thriller of the same name, revolves around one such experiment, a first stage trial of a drug that might eliminate the need for sleep. And if that sounds familiar, it might be due to another recent Irish film, The Sleep Experiment, based off of the creepypasta The Russian Sleep Experiment. But while there are echoes of that here, the two tell their stories in very different ways.
Double Blind follows Claire, a broke young woman who volunteers for a clinical trial run by Blackwood Pharmaceuticals.

It’s Super Bowl weekend with the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Kansas City Chiefs, with many tuning in just to see if Taylor Swift can make it to Las Vegas from her Saturday night concert in Tokyo. Plus, there’s exactly one new wide release. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.

The original Doughtlander may not be over, but Outlander: Blood of My Blood hopes to close the gap.
For sure, it will be taking over where Outlander leaves off, even if it explores a story long before Jamie and Claire were figments of their parents' imagination.
Here’s what we know bout Blood of My Blood Season 1 so far.
What is Outlander?
It’s best to start with what we know, which is what came before. Outlander is based on a series of books by author Diana Gabaldon.
Outlander is a time-traveling love story between 20th-century (married) nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser and 18th-century Jamie Fraser.
When visiting the ancestral home of her husband, Frank, Claire stumbles through the rocks at Craigh na Dun, which takes her back in time.
Unable to easily find her way back, the sassy lady leans on handsome laird Jamie for protection, and soon, they are in love.

As reported in Deadline today, Paramount has officially announced that they are developing a new "Star Trek" feature film. It will be the first "Star Trek" movie since the release of "Star Trek Beyond" in 2016, but the fourteenth "Star Trek" film overall.
The new film will be directed by Toby Haynes, a prolific British television director who has helmed episodes of "M.I. High," "Doctor Who," and the British version of "Utopia." His most recent directing job was six episodes of the hit "Star Wars" series "Andor." Interestingly, he also directed the celebrated "Black Mirror" episode "USS Callister," which was a darkly humorous riff on "Star Trek" and science fiction fandom. He also directed the 2019 TV movie "Brexit: The Uncivil War" starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The new "Star Trek" film is slated to be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of the books "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

“Star Trek” is about to explore a whole new era of its timeline. A new film in the universe Gene Roddenberry created, to be produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for Paramount, and directed by “Andor” helmer Toby Haynes and written by “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” scribe Seth Grahame-Smith, is arriving at impulse power, if not warp.
The film will be set decades before the events of the 2009 “Star Trek” film Abrams directed, which explored a parallel timeline to the main “Star Trek” canon viewers have known and loved to show how Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) met for the first time. It’s unclear if it will actually be set in that timeline — known to Trekkies as the “Kelvin Timeline” — or in the main continuity. But apparently it will be an “origin” story, so it must be connected in some way to “Trek” storytelling that’s already known and loved.

A new “Star Trek” film is in the works at Paramount with “Andor’s” Toby Haynes on board to direct and Seth Grahame-Smith penning the script, Variety has confirmed.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the upcoming feature will be an origin story that is set decades before 2009’s “Star Trek,” as well as an expansion of the “Star Trek” universe. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing.
Meanwhile, the fourth installment of the rebooted “Star Trek” film series remains in development, with the studio describing it as the “final chapter.” In the third film, 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond,” the crew of the USS Enterprise crash-lands on a mysterious world after being attacked by the lizard-like dictator Krall (Idris Elba).
A fourth “Star Trek” movie starring Chris Pine was first announced in July of 2016, with Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg expected to return.

Longtime lit agent and manager Shari Smiley has died. Smiley passed away Tuesday at age 53. Cause of death is not yet known.
Smiley had a long career in book to movie circles, and most recently had restarted her Smiley Management banner. Before that she had been at 3 Arts, this after a four year stint at The Gotham Group. There, she sold the dramatic rights to several titles, notably In A Dark, Dark Wood, The Barbizon and An Anonymous Girl, all of which resulted in bidding wars. Smiley had also been a consultant for the executor of the J.R.R. Tolkien Estate.
Smiley spent the bulk of her career, 18 years worth, at CAA, where she began as a receptionist in 1993 and was soon selling more books there than some of the tenured agents. When she left that agency, she called legendary literary agent Mort Janklow to tell him, and Janklow...

Prime Video has released its “Red White & Royal Blue” film, based on Casey McQuiston’s novel, and viewers are in store for some great twists on romantic comedy tropes and foreign relations.
McQuiston’s novel follows Alex Claremont Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), son of the first woman to become president of the United States (Uma Thurman) as he butts heads with Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) constantly, which gets them both into trouble. The president sent her son to the royal wedding with only one operative: Do not cause a scene. But apparently, he caused a big enough commotion to take the cake — literally a large wedding cake toppled onto Alex and Henry after an altercation on the dance floor. Smoothing things over, at least in a famous fake friendship kind of way, the boys strike up an actual relationship, romantic and all.

Gillian Anderson has been cast in Netflix’s Western drama series “The Abandons” from creator Kurt Sutter.
Anderson will play Constance, the matriarch of the wealthy Van Ness family who doubled the mining fortune she inherited from her husband. Her wealth, charm and power allowed her to forge relationships with political allies despite their town’s patriarchal bias.
The official Netflix logline for the show reads, “As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.
Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

Headey will play Fiona, described as “a strong, devout matriarch who, unable to have her own children, took in four orphans to create her own family. Driven by a higher purpose – and a strong-willed Irish temper – her faith and love for her family trump all.”
Headey is of course best known...

While Devery Jacobs has been doing a spectacular job on FX and Hulu's "Reservation Dogs," which is currently preparing their third season, she will no longer be the only Elora Danan on modern television in a month's time. There is perhaps no writer whose work has been adapted more to screens both big and small than renowned author Stephen King.
Literally dozens of King’s novels, novellas, and short stories have been made into theatrical motion pictures, limited TV series, or streaming movies, ranging from classics like Carrie, The Shining, The Dead Zone, and The Shawshank Redemption to more recent milestones like It and The Outsider. Some, like ‘Salem’s Lot, The Stand, The Shining, and It, have been adapted more than once.
Along the way, there have also been many King adaptations that never actually made it to the screen, or made it in vastly different form than originally intended. For some of these, there were well-known directors and screenwriters who had a vision for the material, but who ended up departing the property as it stalled out, or after that vision got watered down, changed, or scrapped completely.

This article contains spoilers for Morbius and the first three episodes of House of the Dragon.
What the hell is he doing? That was certainly my first thought while witnessing Matt Smith strut his stuff and show off a new beach bod in Morbius. I wasn’t alone. In the months since that dubious attempt at a superhero-vampire hybrid bled out on the multiplex floor, the scene has become a legend among the terminally online.
Even before Morbius’ streaming release (and subsequent premiere on Netflix), watching Smith’s evil Milo the Vampire boogieing to “Ekse” was transformed into an instant meme. On Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and all other social media avenues where nerds gather to enjoy content “ironically,” there was bootleg iPhone footage of this dance scene. Along with the catchphrase “It’s Morbin’ Time!”—which, believe it or not, does not appear in the movie—Smith’s two-step became...

In this edition of The Silver Lining, we’ll be discussing Burr Steers’ underrated adaptation, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
She may not have been a best-selling author when she was alive, but later critics would recognize Jane Austen as one of the most important writers in all of western fiction. That’s why it’s no surprise that there are dozens of adaptations of her work, with some of them dating back to the very origins of cinema. However, one of the most interesting interpretations of her stories is Burr Steers’ Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s literary parody of the same name.
The 2009 novel was already quite the oddity, having been originally commissioned by Jason Rekulak, an editor who wanted to pair popular genre tropes with famous public domain stories. In fact, Grahame-Smith’s book wasn’t so much a complete reimagining of Pride and Prejudice...

Jane Austen knew a thing or two about complicated women and the way they move through the world. The author’s iconic bibliography — from “Pride and Prejudice” and “Emma” to “Sense and Sensibility,” and those are the just the English class curriculum bangers — has always hinged on indelible heroines and their Regency-era attempts to get their lives in order. These stories are both beholden to their time and place and undeniably universal in their concerns and charms.
Austen’s books have inspired all manner of adaptations on both stage and screen, from the faithful (Ang Lee’s luminous “Sense and Sensibility”) to the lightly loosened and even the straight-up free-wheeling (“Bridget Jones’s Diary”) to the mostly inane (“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”). Austen’s books incisively depict a specific time in British life, but her keen understanding of human interactions and desires can happily be transplanted to a range of stories.

What would you do if you couldn't remember the day you almost died?
The new Apple TV+ drama series Surface aims to answer that question.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays a woman named Sophie who is left with severe memory loss after falling into the ocean.
Everyone wants her to believe she tried to kill herself, but Sophie has questions.
“But if my life was so perfect, why did I try to end it?” she wonders.
It's a logical question, and if the trailer is any indication, this will be a big psychological thriller with more questions than answers.
According to the description, Sophie is "a woman who has suffered a traumatic head injury that has left her with extreme memory loss, believed to be a result of a suicide attempt."

Though it’s set in America, the whole of the series was shot in Australia with the majority of filming taking place in 2021, and many of the cast are Antipodeans and Brits as well as Americans.
It’s a twisty tale of a mother who carries out an act of bravery which suddenly exposes her to a world she had long since left behind, and a daughter who discovers she really doesn’t know her mum at all. Pay attention! But in case you’re distracted by the niggling sense of ‘where do a recognise them from?’ we’re here to remind you.

Historically, zombies are more associated with cinema than TV. Originally defined in a modern context by George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead, in the decades since, zombies have evolved (watch out!) to become one of pop culture’s most recognizable horror tropes—to the point where they even pop up in TV shows that are decidedly not about zombies. In honor of All Of Us Are Dead, the horrifying zombie K-drama that just dropped on Netflix, we’re taking the time to recommend some of our favorite zombie TV shows of all time.
All of Us Are Dead
Adapted from a Naver webtoon of the same name, 지금 우리 학교는 (which translates directly as “Our School Now”) follows a group of high school students as they fight to stay alive when their school becomes ground zero for a zombie outbreak. Though the TV show isn’t doing...

Two fans have filed a consumer protection class action lawsuit alleging what it terms “deceptive, and misleading advertising” for Universal’s 2019 movie Yesterday.
Conor Woulfe and Peter Michael Rosza contend that, based on trailers for Yesterday that they watched on Amazon.com, they each spent approximately $3.99 to watch the film.
From the lawsuit:
Among other deceptions, Defendant’s nationwide advertising and promotion of the movie Yesterday represents to prospective movie viewers that the world famous actress Ana De Armas has a substantial character role in the film.

Cupid striking between a man and machine or a Victorian romance during the zombie apocalypse, what sounds wackier? Some films are based on the most insane of ideas that seem weird at first, but end up as delightfully entertaining cinema.
Here are 4 such memorable movies with unbelievably zany plots.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Pride and Prejudice was an unabashedly feminist novel celebrating the importance of inner beauty over fake externals. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is all of that, but with one macabre addition.
A witty take on Jane Austen’s much loved book; this film introduces rabid zombies to the “prim and proper” world of 19th century England. What ensues is a rollicking journey that not only retains the charm of the original but also entertains us with a fresh and interesting storyline. A tense battle of wills unfolds at the edge of space, Halan, the beacon keeper, begins to question whether Aster (Headey) is friend or foe as her ability to disguise her agenda and motives could make her a formidable opponent.
“Lena Headey was a wonderful, versatile actress before she gave one of the defining performances in television history,” said Penn. “So, as they say, ‘no pressure.’ I’m thankful to all the people making this show possible, they just keep delivering beyond my expectations.”
Headey is best known for playing the fearsome Cersei Lannister across all eight seasons of “Game of Thrones.

The CW is developing an anthology series inspired by the works of Jane Austen, Variety has learned.
Titled “Modern Austen,” the one-hour series reimagines Austen’s novels as six modern stories. Each season is a different novel, beginning with “Pride and Prejudice,” set in contemporary San Francisco.
The series hails from Eleanor Burgess, who will serve as writer and executive producer. Burgess most recently wrote on the HBO series “Perry Mason.” Stephanie Allain and Gabrielle Ebron will executive produce via Homegrown Pictures. Warner Bros. Television will produce.
Austen’s works have been frequently adapted for both film and television over the years. “Pride and Prejudice” alone has been adapted into multiple television miniseries as well as features. Most recently it was turned into a feature in 2005 starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet, Rupert Friend as Mr. Wickham, and Matthew Macfayden as Mr. Darcy. There have also been more free spirited approaches to Austen’s work,...
