Let’s be honest – playing one character brilliantly is hard enough, but Nina Dobrev took it to a whole new level in The Vampire Diaries. Her dual portrayal of Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce stands as a masterclass in character differentiation, where the slightest shift in posture, vocal tone, or facial expression could instantly signal which character was on screen.
Elena’s journey from an ordinary teenager to a supernatural being allowed Dobrev to showcase remarkable emotional range, while Katherine’s calculated manipulations required a completely different performance style – sophisticated, cunning, and layered with centuries of complex history.

Whether she was breaking our hearts, making us gasp, or leaving us slack-jawed with her ability to switch between characters in the same scene, Dobrev proved time and time again why she was the beating heart of the series.

One of the things I dislike most about TV fan culture is our obsession with romantic pairings.
And yet, here I am, fully admitting that I’m part of the problem.
It’s embarrassing to feel so deeply for fictional couples, to let a show dictate my emotional state based on whether two made-up characters do or do not end up together. But some shows have gotten to me — really gotten to me — and if you’re reading this, I bet you’ve been there, too.
(Michael Desmond/Hulu)
What I’ve been trying to figure out is: who’s actually to blame? Is it the show itself? The way the characters are written? The actors and their chemistry? Or is it a chaotic combination of all those things, plus some invisible force that makes us lose our collective minds over fictional relationships?
Take Veronica Mars, for example. That show...

On one level, the return of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” with Sarah Michelle Gellar — the news of which Variety broke today — is the most 2020s thing that could happen. Updating a beloved TV series from the last four decades with at least some of the original cast has become a central pillar of our current popular culture. From “And Just Like That” on Max to “That ’90s Show” on Netflix to “Star Trek: Picard,” “Frasier” and whatever new version of “Dexter” is streaming on Paramount+, we’re habitually invited now to live in updated versions of our TV pasts.
A new “Buffy,” however, feels more totemic. There are all the TV history reasons, of course: Dismissed when it premiered on the nascent network The WB in 1997 as a mid-season replacement, “Buffy” rapidly roundhouse kicked itself into the vanguard of both television form and content. Turns out, The Vampire Diaries didn’t just borrow from folklore; it borrowed from Nina Dobrev’s real life too. When crafting Katherine Pierce, the show snuck in a personal detail straight from Dobrev’s own world. While fans loved Katherine’s signature sass and unpredictability, one specific trait was real.

The writers knew exactly what they were doing, blending fiction with reality for a character that felt even more authentic. So, what was this eerie real-life connection?

Original “Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert fired back at Megyn Kelly over a comment the former Fox News host made about Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the classic book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Variety confirmed on Jan. 29 that Netflix is developing a new “Little House on the Prairie” series. Gilbert was the star of NBC’s popular TV adaptation of Wilder’s book series, which aired for nine seasons and 204 episodes between 1974 and 1982.
“Netflix, if you woke-ify ‘Little House on the Prairie’ I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project,” Megyn Kelly posted on X while sharing the news of the Netflix reboot.
Gilbert responded on Threads and encouraged Kelly to “watch any episode on any streaming platform anywhere in the world.”
“Apparently Megyn tweeted (I’m not on that platform) asking that Netflix not ‘woke-Ify’ their ‘Little House’ remake,” Gilbert added in a longer statement.

Last March, we learned that playwright turned feature scribe Ana Nogueira had been tapped to pen a Teen Titans screenplay after impressing DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran with her work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
There have been conflicting reports about which characters will make up the superhero team in the Dcu, with the latest reports claiming it will be Teen Titans Go! leads Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg and Beast Boy.
With The Brave and the Bold set to revolve around Batman training Damian Wayne, the likelihood of Teen Titans' Robin being Dick Grayson is low. That will upset many fans but, at this point in the Dcu's timeline, Dick is almost certainly Nightwing.
According to a new rumour, the plan is indeed for Damian to serve as Robin in this team-up. There's precedent for that in the comics and he's bound to have an interesting dynamic...

Little House on the Prairie was a staple in many homes in the 1970s. The wholesome goodness of the show was a bit of a reprieve from the news at the end of the Vietnam War and the oil crisis later in the decade. People could tune into the show, feel good about life for a bit, and then go back to their regular lives.
The NBC series was adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books mostly stemmed from the 1930s and 1940s. What viewers saw when they tuned in between 1974 and 1983, with over 200 total episodes, was not something they would have seen in the '70s. Life seemed more quaint on Little House, even though it was fraught with some danger, too.

Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books, beloved by children (and former children) of many generations, are based on her own tales of growing up in the American West in the 1800s. Written during the Great Depression and first published in the 1930s, Wilder’s stories were adapted into the hit TV series Little House on the Prairie, which ran for nearly a decade in the 1970s and into the ’80s. Now a new generation will have its own version with Netflix’s reimagining of the treasured novels.

Back in 2009, when vampires had become a part and parcel of pop culture, thanks to the Twilight movies, The Vampire Diaries had gotten everyone in a chokehold. But it wasn’t just the hot Salvatore brothers or the juicy drama that hooked people to the screen. It was the showrunners’ genius play with music that made the show so addictive.

Packing every episode with popular bangers from The Fray to One Republic, The Vampire Diaries managed to turn the soundtrack into more than just background music—it hit people right in the feels. Fast forward to today, new shows seem to have forgotten this cheat code. No offense, but it’s time to bring that magic back.

Ian Somerhalder’s performance as Damon Salvatore has become a classic in the world of vampires, being a perfect example of a modern take on a dangerous creature. The Vampire Diaries does a great job of creating a balance between making an entertaining and attractive show and not getting rid of the darker sides of vampire lore.

Somerhalder’s Damon is the perfect example of this, being complicated in the eyes of the viewers, who accept him as a flawed creature who lives the morally grey life. While Damon is certainly a dramatic and dangerous character in the series, the same cannot be said for the actor.
With this, one can imagine that Somerhalder had to take some interesting approaches when trying to embody the older Salvatore brother’s essence, and some seem to be more extreme than others.

“The Night Agent” has returned with many new faces. Now that Peter Sutherland is officially a night agent, he must take on a new conspiracy mission with a new team.
Gabriel Basso will pick up the action, starring as Peter, and Luciane Buchanan will return as Rose. Though the couple ended their relationship at the end of Season 1, when Rose hears Peter is in trouble, she jumps at the opportunity to rekindle their relationship.
Because this season follows Peter on a new mission, several members of the original cast will not be back for Season 2, though, including Hong Chau and Robert Patrick.

The Vampire Diaries fandom could hardly imagine another actress in the role of Elena Gilbert. Nina Dobrev delivered a memorable performance in the role, even grasping the nuanced details when playing Elena’s different doppelgängers. However, Dobrev almost lost the role during the audition and fought tooth & nail to get her role eventually.

One of the showrunners, Julie Plec, recalled that Dobrev couldn’t deliver her best during the audition because she fell ill at that time. It was wise of Plec and Kevin Williamson to provide her a second chance since she carried the series to its fame along with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley.

A horror comedy called The Invisible Raptor had its world premiere at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival and then made the festival rounds for a year. For a while, the film had a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes – and even though that number has gotten lower since The Invisible Raptor received a theatrical and digital release (courtesy of Well Go USA) back in December, the audience score is still at 93%. Now, the film is set to reach Blu-ray on February 4th (copies can be pre-ordered Here), and ahead of that release, a trio of clips have been unveiled. You can watch one in the embed above and two more at the bottom of this article.
Directed by Mike Hermosa from a screenplay by Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham, The Invisible Raptor has the following synopsis: After a top-secret experiment goes wrong, a hyper-intelligent invisible raptor escapes the lab and begins wreaking havoc in the surrounding neighborhood.

Ian Somerhalder got his breakthrough with Lost but he became a household name as the vampire Damon Salvatore in the horror romance drama The Vampire Diaries. The show saw him play a centuries-old vampire who gets stuck in a love triangle between his brother and a teenage girl named Elena, played by Nina Dobrev.
For eight seasons, Somerhalder was the heartthrob for a whole generation of fans. However, even he addressed one issue in the series that was borderline creepy. His startling confession and nonchalant way of talking about the issue is as hilarious as Robert Pattinson’s criticisms of the Twilight franchise.

Nina Dobrev admitted she’s been feeling “survivor’s guilt” after her home “made it” amid the rapid and going devastation stemming from the Los Angeles wildfires.
“It’s been such a tragic time in Los Angeles recently,” Dobrev said in a video posted to Instagram on Sunday. “I have been absolutely sick to my stomach with all the destruction and devastation that these fires have caused and displaced so many families. My heart is broken for all the people affected by these wildfires.”
The “Vampire Diaries” actor shared that she evacuated from her home on Jan. 9, which happened to be her birthday. “I don’t know about you, but I have been feeling survivor’s guilt,” she said in the video. “Our home, although close to one of the fires, thankfully made it, but so many others were not so lucky.”

The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder would’ve had a tough time on set if the TV series were to adapt one power from its book version. L.J. Smith’s book series gave Damon the weird power to transform into a crow or a black dog. However, in the TV pilot, it was changed such that Damon could control a crow and use it to spy on people.

The idea of using a crow also turned out to be logistically challenging, forcing the makers to let go of the crow entirely after the first few episodes. Interestingly, Damon could also control the fog in these episodes, a power that was attributed to Katherine in the book series. This power too was scrapped as it was considered too supernatural.

Scream 7 will be released in 2026 and the cast is shaping up to be quite exciting!
Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the first Scream movie and later created the series The Vampire Diaries, is taking over directorial duties for the next movie.

The cast for the movie has gone through some major changes due to some behind-the-scenes drama involving the studio and some actors. While some fan-favorites will return, others are not coming back. Plenty of new faces are being added!

From the syndicated adventures of Xena: Warrior Princess to the small-town charm of Eureka, from the gripping mysteries of The X-Files to the sprawling vampire tales of The Vampire Diaries, genre TV once ruled the airwaves.
Fans loved to escape reality with thrilling tales and cherished characters that reached cultural icon status. Yet, as we wade through the 2020s, finding similar shows has become like searching for a needle in a haystack. What happened?

While The Vampire Diaries is famous for the storylines it brought about and the numerous spin-offs it spawned, it is also rather famous for the star-studded ensemble of Hollywood heartthrobs who led the show. This especially includes Ian Somerhalder, who embodied Damon Salvatore and pretty much seems like his real-life counterpart.

That said, there was a time when the actor ostensibly felt rather scared he might end up offending quite a lot of his fans if he confessed one secret about working on the smash-hit supernatural series. And, for the record, this secret was about how he prepared himself to get into his badass heartthrob character’s mind — something that might as well remain a mystery forever.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins shooting in the UK next week and it's looking increasingly likely that the movie will feature more than one Kryptonian.
According to popular David Corenswet fansite @corenswetmedia, the actor has been spotted in London just days before cameras begin rolling on the Girl of Steel's Dcu movie. While nothing is confirmed at this stage, it makes sense for Superman to show up, especially with Krypto set to join Kara on her cosmic adventure.
James Gunn has said Krypto is a "pretty terrible dog" in the Dcu, so Kal-El handing him off to his cousin to see if she can reign him in makes sense. It's previously been reported that Supergirl actor Milly Alcock will debut in Superman so this won't be their first meeting.
We're sure many of you will be hoping that Corenswet's Superman crosses paths with Jason Momoa's Lobo and, while that's certainly a possibility,...
