Fun, Hometown Renovations
lmcbrien314523 April 2021
Being a native of Detroit myself, I'm enjoying watching Keith and Evan renovating houses that remind me of my childhood home. It's encouraging to see beautiful, affordable homes for residents of Detroit!

FINALLY!!!!!!!
gmfreeman27 April 2021
Finally, a fixer-upper show with some sense and smarts!

Keith & Evan buy derelict houses in Detroit for next-to-nothing ($1,000 for some), do ALL the work themselves, while living in the houses, then sell them to people for very little profit (doesn't look like the market could stand any higher prices), so that "normal" people/first-time home buyers can get their foot in the door for home-ownership. Some of the designs are a little "out there" (I cringed when I heard "gold cabinets", but I ended up liking them!), but the point is to get houses fixed up, improve the neighborhood, and get people into their own homes.

I also LOVE that they sell the homes furnished...and they hit the thrift stores, Habitat For Humanity's ReStore, etc., and walk out with furniture that they re-upholster, paint, etc. And it goes with the house. And these houses could almost hold their own against other shows that "stage" for several thousand dollars. They re-use as much as they can, which leads me to a major gripe I have...

I think it's terrible that almost all these home remodel shows throw so many things into the dumpster, and off to the land-fill. Some put things on the curb, and people take them off to put in their shop, garage, etc., which is great. Some re-sell on the internet, also great. But there is so much needless waste...Season 1 of "Rock The Block" was absolutely APPALLING!!! My little town of 2,000 on the Oregon Coast has a ReStore, you can't tell me huge cities don't!!!

A really good show!

Creative and Uplifting
pandora19885 April 2022
I love Bargain Block and Good Bones more than any other flip / design show because they are doing what they do out of love. It's about bringing abandoned and run down homes new life and injecting beauty back into neighborhoods. Keith and Evan are making affordable fully designed and furnished homes for first time buyers and adding so many fun and artsy (think graffiti...glam...animal print) touches to each and every one. No two are alike! The uniqueness isn't for everyone, but it doesn't have to be. It just has to be for "one." I can't wait for season 2!

Uplifts the neighborhood and your mood.

Fantastic! Everyone wins here, the neighbors, the block, the new homeowners, and the city of Detroit. I love the designs, and I'm inspired to look for bargains, paint furniture, and redesign my spaces. Keith and Evan have such a positive vibe, we all know it's not easy working together as a couple. Can't wait to see more shows!

Positivity in the age of COVID

What a refreshingly positive show in a time where the world feels full of negativity. I love so many things about Evan & Keith- the biggest being their uplifting positive approach to life! They make hard work and sacrifice not only NOT feel like a hardship but actually look appealing, LOL! Their artistry is absolutely fascinating & mind blowing! And best of all, they list their houses at price points that will actually bring low income buyers in & give them beautiful places to call home!!

I hope these 2 do nothing but succeed!!

I love this show it is my favorite show on HGTV. I hope that they will have a second season i can't get enough. I've watched each episode at least 3 times each. I love it my favorite episode is with the gold kitchen an the penny tile. I love Evan & kieth they work very well together better than Nate & Jeremiah at least they don't argue over things at least they don't show it on camera. I also like Shea she really seems to know her stuff in real estate she seems so sweet. I just have to say keep up the good work i pray we get to see a second season.

Interesting ideas for neighborhood revitalization
Love the intent here - renovate abandoned houses near each other and sell for affordable prices creating momentum for the neighborhood becoming a lovely place to live. These two guys are enjoyable to watch and working on more than one house at a time keeps the show's energy high. They seem to know what they are doing and are creative with a very small budget. And selling the furnishings (also renovated from thrift shop finds) is brilliant. Will the painted tiles chip? Sure. Do they need help with window coverings? Yep. But if you want to buy the best house you could for less than $100K, this show is your inspiration. And that makes for an excellent HGTV program.

Amazing!

The transformation these houses experience is just that, AMAZING!

Evan and Keith always see the potential in every property and work to make each property aesthetically beautiful and unique.

Evan and Keith need to consider taking their show on road. Other cities, say Philadelphia, could benefit from their expertise.

Most Impressive HGTV Show I've ever seen
bretxmurphy25 March 2022
Where do I start lol

The overall energy and vision of the show is an instant hook, but when you get down to the designs...man Keith is an actual artist. I get the designs might not be for everyone, but the vision is to sell these houses to first time home buyers, they're very very affordable, you can't sell functionality in that area, but you can sell someone who falls in love with the house.

Every episode I simply cannot see the vision until it's complete, I constantly question Keith..but I've learned to just #TRUSTKEITH

His dynamic with Evan is very refreshing and charming, crazy to think Evan has a PHD, and Keith has an MBA, but took the chance on this, I've truly never watched a show that leaves me in astonishment and impressed every single episode.

LOVE THIS SHOW!
bdearly27 August 2023
Love this show! Amazing what they accomplish with so little. The partners are fun as they go through the process. The relationship with their great realtor is genuine and endearing. Most important is they're very believable and serious about reviving the community they working in and they care. I think I'd enjoy lunch with the guys and Shea for sure! Good, talented people!

I'm so glad that season 3 has started and I want them to do well but keep there "dumpster diving, 2nd hand" way to create great homes.

I hope this show has many seasons in the future, it one of my favorites and I've watched a lot of renovation shows. Keep up the good work!

A Refreshing Take on Home Renovation with a Focus on Design
labenji-121633 April 2024
I was initially drawn to "Bargain Block" after seeing the hosts on Rock the Block. While some negative reviews made me skeptical, I decided to give it a chance. After watching a few episodes, I noticed some valid concerns, such as furniture placement near heating vents and open staircases. However, what sets "Bargain Block" apart is its focus on revitalizing low-income neighborhoods and showcasing unique design styles.

While Erin and Ben of Hometown, I do love this show, but they work within their clients' budgets, the hosts of "Bargain Block" tackle abandoned homes with their own tight budget, showcasing how these properties can be transformed to benefit the community.

I appreciate the show's departure from traditional design trends, such as the all-black house with copper accents, which I found visually appealing. It's a refreshing change from the typical beige and trendy designs seen on HGTV. The hosts' bohemian chic style may not be for everyone, but it offers a unique perspective and inspires creativity, especially for those on a budget.

Overall, "Bargain Block" is more than just a home renovation show; it's a testament to the resilience of communities and the power of design to transform spaces. It's a must-watch for anyone looking for affordable design ideas and a glimpse into the revitalization of forgotten neighborhoods like Detroit.

Quality of their construction....?
nangrimmer7 August 2022
The goal of restoring neighborhoods.... great.

But that may be where the good stuff ends with this show.

I can find nothing online about their training in construction. Yes, one can learn on the job - but the learning curve in construction is not a short one. And the buyers - first-timers, mostly - are the people who will inherit the mistakes. And those can be costly, especially for persons who can least afford to correct the mistakes. I've only watched a few episodes ... but I see them laying floor tile incorrectly; painting floor tiles, which will not wear well; painting kitchen cabinets in a way that will wear badly, quickly; placing beds in front of heating vents, etc. And I hear their frequent comments about "tight profit margins".... based on what I have read, these guys are clearing - at the very least - a half a million annually.

Plus, when they skimp on quality, they are "training" badly a whole new batch of flippers and other DIYers, who will pass their mistakes on to unsuspecting buyers. All while ratching up the cost of housing. These are not good things.

Spend the money needed, guys. Do a better job, so you are not sticking it to the buyers. You are going to be pricing many families out of their neighborhoods, you need to at least not double-punk them.

Love the show
Jeanniesawyer7 July 2022
I totally enjoy this show, and what they are doing to revitalize the city and create generational wealth. So what if you don't like their design. That can always be changed. The POINT, that some people don't get is, they are helping people become first time home buyers. Increasing values in the neighborhoods, creating pride of ownership, giving people a legacy for the family, etc. What's not to like? To those with unnecessary criticisms, I say, Lighten up.

Love Bargain Block
ayamonaco17 June 2023
I truly enjoy how Keith and Evan renovate the homes they buy. Taking on the task of rebuilding and renovating in Detroit is very admirable. They are funny as they interact during thr renovations. Keith is so very creative and talented. He has a good eye for design and staging. Evan is knowledgeable regarding construction and addressing issues they encounter during the renovations. They work so well together. I also enjoy the themes discussed for each renovation. I always look forward to see the finished home inside and out.

That pretty much covers everything.

I look forward to seeing more episodes very soon!

I'M OBSESSED!
classicmomentsvp28 July 2022
I haven't watched a lot of HGTV shows recently because they all seemed cookie-cutter and the same paint colors, same tile, same flooring...yadda yadda yadda

I have binged both seasons of Bargain Block on Discovery + and after each episode I couldn't wait to see what they did next.

Not only are they revitalizing old neighborhoods, each house has its on character and design which keeps me interested.

Keith & Evan's are also great hosts, designers and visionaries.

Hope the house market doesn't bomb because I would hate to see them not be able to make a success out of their talents :)

One of HGTV's best
finneypollard5 August 2023
I love this little show. It's a change of pace for HGTV, featuring two pleasant, likable, down-to-earth guys who salvage terribly broken-down houses to help lift up a sad part of old Detroit. They actually do the work themselves, living in one project while finishing the next. It's fun to watch them do practical but very clever renovations on a tight budget and turn near-wrecks into unique, cheerful, very affordable starter homes for people who might not otherwise be able to become homeowners. This is much more grounded in reality than most of HGTV. If you want a feel-good show and a change of pace from the usual steady stream of zillion-dollar cookie-cutter makeovers, I highly recommend Bargain Block.

uplifting the motor city, one house at a time
amber-madden8 August 2023
In Detroit, a place which once built housing faster than any other major American city and now demolishes housing faster than any other, housing is complicated.

Keith and Evan may be making money on their hose renovations, they are also doing a service for a city that Is still is need of a whole lot of love. Some of the houses they buy are for the unbelievably low price of $1000. Each renovation is beautiful and ends up being an affordable house to uplift the quality of living for Detroit residents in neighborhoods that have been neglected for a long time. I love the fact that these are single family homes and not apartments, town houses, or even brown stones. Detroit has so many unique neighborhoods. These guys also live in the homes while they renovate them, which makes it feel more authentic and less like they are in this for the money.

Being from Detroit, I absolutely love this show. Thank you to the Bargain Block designers.

Watching This Trio Right Now!
FAN-TASTICO14 September 2023
I LOVE "Bargain Block!" I love Keith and Evan. Great guys!

I also enjoy the lovely Shea. I like her humor and energy. She is a realtor and she is a pleasant presence who obviously aids in finding the right people to purchase these renovated homes.

By the way, what is it with viewers despising so many people's voices. Seems it's just absolutely EVERYWHERE about EVERYONE on EVERY SHOW. Name any show and you see viewers constantly complaining about someone's "tone of" and "annoying" voice.

Is that all. I may be alone here, but I don't understand it. Unless a voice is truly "super" grating, outlandish or utterly ridiculous, I think a lot of viewers are "petty" and possibly already a bit irritated or grouchy.

It's just too much.

Most of the designers and flippers appearing on these programs seem to be kind, decent, creative individuals. I'm happy that they are giving me something good to watch on TV. If I am really, REALLY unsettled by someone on TV, I won't watch him or her...... like every single "housewives" show. Lol. And I certainly don't wish for people on TV to lose their jobs.

Regarding this wonderful "Bargain Block," viewers need to remember what it's all about. People aren't "swimming in money" here. Keith and Evan also don't have a lot of cash to throw away. These are not wealthy neighborhoods, so you can't expect the guys to make homes "completely" upgraded with the nicest fixtures and materials.

The creativity of Keith and Evan is everything. It is especially good for people with lower incomes to see that they too can live in a cute, clean space that they can be proud of.

Basements? HVAC?
mensamaster22 August 2022
Love the show and the concept behind it but am perplexed that there is never any information given on each house's basement nor the condition of HVAC.

Very odd.

Form over fynction
gem-8762617 December 2023
Having owned a custom woodshop for over 40 years I seriously question your material choices and methods on S3E4. Any good cabinet makeruy will always advise against using metal laminate for any counter top application. Also freehand mitering a large panel edge is amateurish at least and dangerous at best. I'm sure that edge was not precise. Having a woodshop is mostly about systems and all about experience. While wild and strange ideas are catchy I believe they are faddish and will outstay their welcome. I suggest either hiring experienced woodworkers or get some proper training and equipment.

Great Guys Awful Design and Workmanship
mdkenney-9566429 June 2022
As an NCIDQ Interior Designer, I commend the idea of revitalizing neglected neighborhoods, but at what cost? Their design ideas are just bizarre, but more importantly, they do not have the expertise or the acumen to demo and construct in the trades. The quality of work that I have seen is atrocious. Do poor/lower middle class people not deserve quality housing? You can create affordable, while not doing dangerous. Do they waterproof the showers? Do they run proper copper? Do they insulate properly? I haven't seen anything that makes me think that they do. In fact, I see uneven tile, duplex covers that do not fully cover, paint slop on woodwork and floors. So if they do it that poorly on the outside, what do they do on the inside? Do they get inspected or do they get a pass because the city is so desperate to revitalize? How can they have a TV show? Do better HGTV.

Why Don't the Bargain Blockers Bargain?
pbmalcolmmalcolm7 August 2022
I feel like.the original sellers of these houses are getting greedy. The guys used to get these run down houses for a few thousand. Now they are asking tens of thousands for the same houses. Sounds to me that the sellers have caught on to the popularity of the show and are getting greedy. So, my question is, why don't the guys try to bargain? It seems they pay whatever the sellers ask, no questions asked. These houses have sat unoccupied for YEARS with no hope until Keith and Evan showed up. Surely that gives them some bargaining power???
