Break out Tom Cruise’s famous coconut cake, the wait is finally over. “Hacks,” TV’s funniest comedy about comedy, is back after a lengthy hiatus. The third season picks up a year after the events of Season 2, which saw Deborah (Emmy winner Jean Smart) fire her writing partner, Ava (Emmy nominee Hannah Einbinder), following the successful release of her comedy special so Ava could finally begin developing her own career.
The new season, the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Max, is as sharp and funny as ever as the two friends find their way back to one another when Deborah decides to have another go at hosting a late-night show. The enviable list of guest stars for the nine-episode season includes J. Smith-Cameron, Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks and Christopher Lloyd. Welcome To Wrexham has everything; Hollywood stars, a working class town in Wales searching for glory on the pitch, a sweary manager. We take a closer look at TV’s best docuseries.
Nb: The following contains mild spoilers for Wrexham AFC’s current season.
If you’re not watching Welcome To Wrexham, you’re truly missing out. Granted, it’s not exactly Game Of Thrones, but it might be one of the best things on telly currently. I’ve always found it difficult to tune into documentaries and docuseries, but Welcome To Wrexham has become a weekly tradition during its two previous seasons and the third season looks to be just as addictive and heartwarming.
I hate football, which is why I never imagined I would enjoy Welcome To Wrexham. The series follows the titular Welsh football club after Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought it in 2020. The club has a passionate,...

The third season of the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney midlife crisis saga, Welcome to Wrexham, is like watching a live-action Ted Lasso. The series makes you think Wrexham AFC was what the team on AFC Richmond was probably really like: an eclectic group run by some ignorant, football-naive Americans who may be a bit over their heads.
Yet, the third season of Welcome to Wrexham represents something we love about movies or television: never to count out the underdog. The reality series encapsulates the dreamer in all of us, mainly by capturing how a sense of community and the nature of professional sports fandom meet in the middle.

Reynolds and McElhenney have purchased a stake in Club Necaxa, the century-old Mexican soccer club that also counts Eva Longoria among its owners. The pair will work with Longoria and fellow investors Al Tylis and Sam Porter to enhance Club Necaxa’s standing and grow its profile in international sports circles at a time of heightened TV and streaming demand for soccer content. It’s understood that Longoria, the Mexican American multihyphenate, helped bring Reynolds and McElhenney into the investor group.

Jokes from Prince Harry could go a long way in his upcoming Netflix series about polo. A royal commentator says the Duke of Sussex’s new show must tread carefully or risk mistakes made by other celebrities. To that end, some humor just might help it strike the “right tone.”
Harry has to ‘get the tone absolutely perfectly right’ on his Netflix polo series
Playing polo in lavish locales can’t be the extent of Harry’s polo series, according to Jack Royston, the host of The Royal Report podcast (via Newsweek).
“I think they need to get the tone absolutely perfectly right,” he said of the show, which Archewell Productions announced on April 11, 2024.
“I don’t think they can just, in 2024, celebrate how exceptionally amazing and god-like these mega-rich polo players are, riding around in the sunshine on horses.”
“It’s great that they raise money for charity,” he added.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are celebrating in style following another Wrexham promotion to a better league.
Reynolds co-owns the club with fellow actor McElhenney. The team secured promotion to League Two last year. Now, a 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers on Saturday means they will play in League One next season.
On X, formerly Twitter, Reynolds wrote: “A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney. Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives.”
He later posted a celebration of McElhenny’s birthday, allegedly underwriting a trip to the Titanic to grab a few bottles of Wrexham Lager for a toast. See the results below.
Since McElhenney and Reynolds’ bought the team in February 2021, they have boosted its worldwide attention.

When Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney went forth to purchase the Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC in November 2020, there were many doubts regarding their venture. Yet their joint venture has borne impeccable results, with the soccer club securing their entry into the Efl after a 15-year absence.

Despite the club being struck with some hard times, the Rr McReynolds Company’s investment has helped it come back. Even on Instagram, Reynolds is often seen promoting the soccer club and even went on to launch the Emmy-winning docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham. While some still doubt Reynolds’ intentions, the manager of the club recently stated how the Deadpool star’s involvement is more than just a celebrity stunt.

It’s official: Disney+ and Hulu now live together in one app. Good thing too, since Disney already spent $8.5 billion to buy out Comcast’s stake, with more on the way.
You can bet you’re going to see a whole lot more ads pushing the Disney Bundle, which is the only way to get access to Hulu content via the Disney+ app (the marketing campaign is already in full swing). Disney even changed the color of its logo to a bluish green blend to let you know the app is Disney+ And Hulu merged together.
The idea is that by understanding how much content is available to you without having to swap between apps to find what you want to watch, you’re less likely to cancel. They also want more subscribers. Disney+ as of the end of 2023 has 46.1 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada compared to Hulu’s 49.7 million.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

“Succession,” “The Bear,” and “Beef.” If this group of names sounds familiar, dear readers, then you too may have an addiction to awards shows. (Don’t worry: The only unwanted side effects are fatigue and making far too granular references to Pedro Pascal at dinner parties.) HBO’s outgoing drama series, “Succession,” FX and Hulu’s surging pseudo-comedy, “The Bear,” and Netflix’s one-and-done limited series “Beef” have dominated the winter awards cycle. It was “Succession,” “The Bear,” and “Beef” winning Best Series trophies at the Emmys. The Golden Globe Awards honored the same trio in the same categories, and even Saturday’s SAG ceremony — where Pedro Pascal stole the spotlight as easily as he stole his table-mate’s shoes — saw “The Bear,” “Beef,” and, yes, “Succession” triumph in major categories.

Christopher Nolan‘s “Oppenheimer” will notch another incredibly important precursor win on its path to the Oscars at the upcoming 35th Producers Guild of America Awards on Sunday, Feb. 25. According to our official odds, the blockbuster film will take home the honor of Best Picture. The ceremony includes other film categories such as animated and documentary feature and television trophies for drama, comedy, limited series and more. Scroll down for our official PGA Awards odds in 10 categories with our winner predictions highlighted in gold.
A victory for “Oppenheimer” here would be significant because, more often than not, the winner at PGA goes on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Since 2000, the two prizes have gone hand-in-hand 16 times. The exceptions are film years 2001 (when PGA opted for “Moulin Rouge!” and the Oscars awarded “A Beautiful Mind”), 2004 (“The Aviator” / “Million Dollar Baby”), 2005 (“Brokeback Mountain” / “Crash”), 2006 (“Little Miss Sunshine” / “The Departed...

FX is about to enter a new era.
The network is grappling with how to replace a number of its long-running hits including Snowfall, Mayans M.C., What We Do in the Shadows, Reservation Dogs, Archer and Dave.
As such, John Landgraf, chairman of FX Content & FX Productions, is “sweating bullets” as he and his team search for new series to replace these shows.
“There was a time when you had these time slots and something was going in that time slot — it might be good, it might be bad, but it wasn’t going to be a color bar in that time slot,” he told Deadline. “Now if we put things on the air or on streaming that are bad, it tarnishes 20 years of hard work we’ve done to try to create a brand that’s synonymous with quality.”

FX CEO John Landgraf celebrated his 20th year at the now Disney-owned network Friday at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour by saying “adios” to Peak TV.
The executive, who famously coined the phrase back in 2015 to represent the content boom, announced that U.S. scripted originals tumbled 14 percent year-over-year (from 600 to 512) in 2023 and the industry has now entered its “Peaked TV” era.
“I was finally correct,” he quipped after two previously incorrect estimates for when the Peak TV era would officially conclude. He said that last year’s dual Hollywood strikes “undoubtedly played a role,” but the decline in the volume of scripted series was “likely under way” before labor actions by writers and actors brought production to a standstill.
Calling the change a “realignment” for the industry, Landgraf seems to have learned from his previous Peak TV predictions and did not offer an estimate of when...
