This ep. Was off the wall.... I thought the lawyer looked a bit shady...but being a friend of the victim all his life...find it difficult to believe he could execute her Or had her executed...did he know about her illness...that was never really explained..and may have been a reason for a mercy killing which would have been more believable if he knew she was terminally ill and arranged for her own execution.

I think that would have been a better concept. Also isn't it great that suddenly after all these happy years with his client and friend probably going for dinner etc..after killing her son..this guy breaks down with sorrow...c'mon who you kiddin'.

Like the hologram idea though.

Really starting to lose a little of it's charm.

I am not sure what the issue has been with the writing so far this season. Its as though the departure of Gibbs has put the writers in a creative funk. They are reaching so badly and some of the dialogue is so corny and amateurish.

The crime and the investigation itself is clever and though I was fairly sure of the perp, the reasoning behind it and the backstory of that person and the victim was great. The hologram aspect was interesting but full of holes. Some questions she (the hologram victim) was asked were detailed, yet she couldn't answer them but then she could give specifics of a certain person when she was only asked about "he"- not their name, etc. When they went to the lab to talk to Kasey about the hologram, mind you a first on this show, she just HAPPENS to have a clandestine area in the back of the lab where she has been programming the very same technology, albeit on a smaller budget. So, of course, this foreshadows the eventual need for her expertise to set up and operate the program they had to retrieve from the maker since the original was stolen.

Then the "roll of the eyes" in the opening scene when a male Navy staffer and Jimmy both knew that the light blue satchel belonging to the female victim, not a purse as stated, was a Balenciaga. The females had no clue.

There are more but I'm already bored. I did like the in-story about mom's, that was touching and heartfelt.

Personally, I would have liked it if they had done a storyline around something related to or mentioning the 80th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor tragedy.

Collective Memory

Sure, they may be a few years late with the whole hologram thing, but at least NCIS is trying. The plot itself was formulaic and by the book, but overall not too shabby an episode.

Mom's. This episode made me cry and miss my mom so much.

Really good good episode.

You must see it all the way to the end.

Mothers. You only have one. Grab her and hold her and tell her you love her.

Mines gone now 10 years and there is not one day I don't think about her or talk to her.

Do it.

I Loved This Episode

NCIS has always been an excellent series. But, with the departure of several of the characters, including Mark Harmon following the worst of the still on-going Covid pandemic, it looked like NCIS was going to have a rough go of it. However, there have been several excellent episodes this season, with "Collective Memory" being one of the best (IMHO).

The hologram aspect (first introduced by the Startrek series) was beautifully done. The highlight, actually. The ending was very emotional, and brought a "lump" to the throat. Good job writers.

Gary in Sandy Eggo.

I have watched EVERY episode of NCIS multiple times and this episode was THE best one ever! The "hologram" technology was great!!! Even with Gibbs gone (momentarily) it is still a great show!!!

Excellent - what NCIS occasionally does really well.

Warning: Spoilers
An excellent homage to families, family feuds and mis-direction.

The investigation is well-paced, despite beginning with a distinct Whisky Tango Foxtrot moment.

Gibbs old rule 13 - "Never trust a lawyer" comes to the forefront.

The novel approach of having a hologram of the victim available, really helps. Nevertheless, it is old-fashioned police investigation effort which produces a link to the killer (and the actual embezzler) which was a significant mis-direction AND proved the good person within the females financier who was the "Bernie Madoff" bad-girl character.

The NCIS crew eventually proved that she was entirely innocent , thereby helping her daughter to revise her view of her mother's legacy and to find peace in knowing her dead mother was entirely innocent.

Good episode.

Horrible

Warning: Spoilers
What the heck is happening to NCIS? It used to be a Naval and Marine Investigative service and the are investigating a murder victim who was killed and was dropped at the naval base. Then in goes into the far fetched with holograms of the murder victim. This is not Star Trek TNG. Keep this up cause soon you will no longer be taken seriously anymore.

Could have been better
harrykivi25 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The 19th season of "NCIS" has not been very impressive so far. "Peacekeeper" being a huge flop. What the series needs in my opinion are new and good ideas that are well executed. "Collective Memory" is an episode with a very compelling idea- the murder victim helping the team to investigate her death. That idea needed a better execution though.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great. The direction's solid, so is the acting. The music fits the scenery.

. The case shows occasional intrigue, some moments (especially at the end) are touching. There are some relatable themes here.

But...

. The story could have been deeper. The idea of an hologram was compelling, but was too often turned into a joke. Parts of the mystery are padded and the question of: why was the victim found close to a Navy yard was never answered.

Overall, an okay episode.

5/10 HK.

Ludicrous
billtkd11 April 2024
This has to be one of the most fatuous episodes of the entire series, even by the increasing degree of silliness and unlikely coincidences in the preceding few episodes. The whole story displays extensive ignorance of simple scientific principles and technology and is an insult to the intelligence of the viewers. The recreated 'hologram' was merely a two-dimensional reflection of an image on a computer monitor. Moreover, it was completely unnecessary for the investigation. They could have interviewed the AI version of Sandra Holdren on audio only. Using the hologram was a dramatic gimmick and very silly one at that.
