If you’re at all in touch with your geek side, you already know about all the great horror movies that are Christmas-themed. Chances are you’ve stumbled across Silent Night, Deadly Night, Black Christmas, or Santa’s Slay. Everybody knows Batman Returns and Die Hard take place around December 25th. However, did you know that several disasters have occurred around the most wonderful time of the year?
Anchor Bay Entertainment and the SyFy Channel spent the past few years reminding us that even the holidays aren’t safe from catastrophic events which could bring about the end of the world. Disaster-oriented Christmas movies were becoming an annual tradition up until 2013. The two media giants banned together for three straight years to bring us a trilogy of B-movie entertainment that I think it’s high time they continue.

Your shows may be in reruns now, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to watch this Christmas week. If you look around, you’ll find marathons of TV shows past (Breaking Bad), classic holiday movies (A Christmas Story), new installments of (a few!) current faves and, lest we not forget, Nikita‘s very final mission. So while those chestnuts roast on the fire, relax on the couch with these Christmas picks.

We’ve all been told not to judge something by it’s cover. However, when you see a title like Metal Shifters, Camel Spiders, or Ice Quake, you should probably have an inkling that you’re about to watch a B movie. For the B-lovers out there, these three titles pack some ridiculous moments that are sure to entertain.
Metal Shifters:
Just when you thought there weren’t enough movies about Idaho, Paul Ziller brings B-movie lovers a little gem called Metal Shifters. Having enjoyed an array of farfetched Syfy movies, I can usually take any plot line with a grain of salt. However, with this film, I found myself pondering some simple, moral questions. My biggest quandary stems from the premise of the movie: if a strange, metal object plummeted from the sky, would your first thought be “I wonder how much I could sell that for?” Probably not.

Well, it’s a new year so we have tons of films that we liked from last year to be released on DVD & Blu-Ray. Also, later this year, we will see films that maybe either never got a DVD release before or receive a hi-def upgrade. Here is the first Home Invasion post of 2012 and there are a couple of titles might catch your eye.

We all know the world is going to end next year, so what better way to get in the mood than with these two upcoming releases from Anchor Bay. Set to hit early next year on DVD and Blu-ray, Ice Quake (January 3rd) and Metal Shifters (February 7th) both debuted on the Syfy channel, so now you’ll be able to embrace the end of the world at your own convenience!
In Ice Quake, we witness nature’s unforgiving power unleashed, as melting Alaskan permafrost is about to drastically alter a tranquil Christmas Eve. The permafrost thaws underground rivers of volatile liquid methane and creates a succession of violent and destructive earthquakes. The crack now leaks a deadly gas from deep within the earth’s core, and the world could end before New Year’s Eve! It’s up to a single geologist and his family to save the world...

Let's start with the writers this time.
Jane Espenson wrote an article about Torchwood for BBC.co.uk that provides some info about the creative process behind Miracle Day. You can read it here.
Mark Verheiden tweets that he is back in the Falling Skies writers' room. Caprica co-creator & new Fs showrunner Remi Aubuchon confirms that Verheiden will be on staff for season two as a consulting producer. (Yes, Remi Aubuchon has joined Twitter.)
Race Bending has a fantastic new interview with Carmen Moore. She talks about Blackstone, playing Fidelia in Caprica, how she got cast in Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome (she will likely be a regular if B&C gets picked up) and some of her other projects, both old (Andromeda) and more recent (Two Indians Talking).
You can read the partial transcript here or listen to the whole interview below.

Director: Tripp Reed.
Writer: David Ray.
From the creators of the upcoming Ice Quake and Mega Cyclone comes the human-eating Mandrake. This SyFy Original premiered in early April, with a future showing in May and this production follows a research team into the jungles of Central America. Here, actors Nick Gomez, Max Martini, and Wayne Pere play anthropologists in search of an ancient, yet cursed, dagger. Soon, the mandrake, normally a poisonous plant, is released and viewers might be searching for something unique in this SyFy Original; this reviewer had to dig deep (get it) to find its uniqueness. A killing bush, the inclusion of two, possibly three villains, and the talk of Conquistador curses creates some of the thrills in this relatively action packed film adventure.
The real mandrake root is actually very poisonous and according to ancient legend, those who unearth the mandrake are soon to hear its cry and later die.

Utter ludicrousness arrives in the form of “Stonehenge Apocalypse”, an opportunistic made for TV outing aiming to cash in on the semi success of the considerably flashier and more glamorous “2012”. Director Paul Ziller certainly has a great deal of experience in the low budget disaster movie arena, having helmed the likes of “Solar Strike”, “Polar Storm” and the excellently titled “Ice Quake”, not to mentioned a long list of cheap creature features including “Beyond Loch Ness”, “Snakehead Terror”, “Swarmed” and more. The film has a relatively recognisable cast made up of television stars, headlined by Misha Collins (“Supernatural”), with support from Hill Harper (“CSI: NY”), Torri Higginson (“Stargate: Atlantis”) and Peter Wingfield (“Highlander: The Source”). Coming with an all important behind the Scenes featurette and trailer, the film is out now on region 2 DVD thanks to Anchor Bay Entertainment. The film follows Collins as Jacob Glaser, a formerly respected and...

While this weekend brings us the world premiere of the cinematic epic Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Syfy is already putting out promotional clips for their next offering for February, Iron Invader, which sees Earth invaded by a alien bacteria that not only fatally infects people, it also brings a giant ironworks statue to life to go on a rampage.
Alien bacteria arrives on a meteorite and infects metal, animating a giant iron statue that goes on a killing rampage in a small town. It's up to Kavan Smith ("Stargate: Atlantis", "The 4400"), Chris Gauthier ("Eureka", "Smallville"), Nicole DeBoer ("Haven", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"), Paul McGillion ("Stargate: Atlantis", "Sanctuary") and Donnelly Rhodes ("Battlestar Galactica", "Charles in Charge") to save the world.
If there's one thing that cast proves, it's that if you've ever starred in a Syfy original series, then you pretty much look to have a job for life appearing in Syfy original movies.

Any Twi-Hards on the hunt for a way to satisfy your “Twilight” craving throughout the next 10 months? Why not take a bite into some music videos!
“The Twilight Saga” starlet Jodelle Ferland (Bree Tanner in “Eclipse”) tweeted a link to a new music video she appears in for Vancouver-based band Behind Sapphire. Okay, it may not have Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart, but at least it’s something!
The video for “Oh My, What a Fine Day” was revealed last night and follows Anna Kendrick’s appearance in LCD Soundsystem’s “Pow Pow” as well as Christian Serratos’ upcoming cameo for The Black Keys. In the video, Ferland, a friend of the band, runs through a field before being transported into what seems to be a strange dream-like world.
The 16-year-old actress is also known for the 2006 video game adaptation of “Silent Hill” and has appeared in “Case 39.” She...

Last night, the official music video for (a Vancouver-based band called) Behind Sapphire's "Oh My, What a Fine Day" was revealed, and guess who's the star of it? Jodelle Ferland ("Bree Tanner" in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)!
The name of the song is a bit coincidental, since one of her post-Eclipse projects has been a movie called Mighty Fine, which she worked on in New Orleans, Louisiana last year.
Other films Jodelle Ferland has been involved with since Eclipse include The Cabin In The Woods, Ice Quake, and The Tall Man. Also, a movie she did a few years back, Case 39, received some reawakened attention as it hit theaters a couple of years after it'd been completed.
So what do you think of Jodelle Ferland's work in this new music video?
Hers is the latest of quite a few Twilight castmember music video appearances. Just a few weeks ago,...

Is there an actor who can do no wrong in your eyes? An actor who can entice you to watch anything that might be on television, no matter how dubious? Whose mere presence can make even a mediocre if not downright lousy “entertainment experience” seem at least somewhat worthwhile? For me, there is one anwer to all those questions: “No. But Victor Garber comes to close.” Garber is most famous for playing Jack Bristow, super-spy father to super-spy Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) in the J.J. Abrams spy-fi series Alias. His intensely taciturn yet deceptively warm performance–part James Bond, part...

Brendan Fehr was an actor for all of one year when he got the part of Michael on Roswell.
But sometimes luck doesn’t bring perspective. He say’s that he “didn’t realize how hard [acting] was because it came so quick and when it comes quick it seems relatively easy.”
After Roswell ended, he admittedly didn’t go out on pilots for a long time and now he says that he’s “definitely been humbled.”
Since then though, he’s had some great recurring roles on Bones and CSI: Miami and this Saturday, you can watch him and Victor Garber in SyFy original movie, Ice Quake.
I talked to him in a Q & A where he talks about the new movie, how he got his roles on both Bones and Roswell, how he got started and more!

SyFy original movies are the most Godtopus awful, wonderfully bad, overdone, overacted cheesefests on television; they're Lifetime movies for boys and girls and I guess the fact that they're on SyFy makes them acceptable to watch. I mean, if a dude said he watched Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?, there would be hell to pay - but if he says he watched Ice Quake, he'll get high fives or an ass pat. Bad SyFy movies are cool.
