Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series “The Flight Attendant,” is joining Starfleet as the new screenwriter for “Star Trek 4.”
Story details remain under a powerful cloaking device, but Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot still intend the project to be the final chapter for the cast that rebooted the franchise in movie theaters with 2009’s “Star Trek,” including Chris Pine (as Capt. James T. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (as Cmdr. Spock), Zoe Saldaña (as Lt. Nyota Uhura), Karl Urban (as Dr. Leonard McCoy), John Cho (as Lt. Hikaru Sulu) and Simon Pegg (as chief engineer Montgomery Scott). (Variety first reported the news in its cover story on the future of the “Star Trek” franchise.)

Greer Grammer is speaking out about the residual checks she gets sent for her work on MTV's Awkward.
Grammer played Lissa Miller as a recurring player on the comedy series' first two seasons before being elevated to a series regular for the final three seasons.
Greer took to TikTok to open residual checks on camera to support the SAG-AFTRA strike.
"Let's open some streaming residuals," she said at the top of the video.
"So, I just got all these bad boys in the mail today and I figured since there have been so many discussions about streaming residuals with the SAG strike going on, that I would do some live opening on what mine actually are right now."
The actress picked one and opened it before saying:
"Awkward, 'Are You there, God? It's Me, Jenna.' Total gross: .80 cents. Oh, actually, that's what this [paystub] says, but the check is actually for .50 cents.

Within minutes, the McMurrays cemented a place in our hearts, and hopefully, we'll be watching them for several seasons.

That 70s Show is probably at the top of the list of iconic sitcoms of the late ’90s and early 2000s. The show ran for eight seasons and still remains one of the most beloved shows to have aired.
Following a group of teenagers in the ’70s navigating that crazy decade, That ’70s Show made its mark on TV, not only with its great and funny storylines but also with its huge lineup of guest stars. One star appeared for an episode on the show before hitting it big with The Office.

Apparently, "Grease" is still the word at Paramount+ because an all-new show based on the hit stage musical and its beloved 1978 film adaptation is heading to the streaming service later this year after originally being set up at HBO Max in 2019. But rather than follow the star-crossed students made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the 10-episode series will focus on the origins of the Pink Ladies, the girl gang made up of Stockard Channing, Dinah Manoff, Jamie Donnelly, and Didi Conn in the first movie (and led by an up-and-coming Michelle Pfeiffer in the underrated sequel).
Titled "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies," this prequel will be set four years before the original story and follows the first members of the group that challenged the idea of what a woman should be like in the 1950s. And while we've seen images and cast announcements for the upcoming project in the past,...

The comedic instinct to use anything and everything as fodder for ridicule means even the most sensitive of subjects can be reduced to a punchline. And in the past decade or so, several popular TV shows have used self-mutilation, specifically cutting, for cheap laughs.
Cutting always served the same purpose in these shows: a quick, throwaway line to express just how revolting or uncomfortable the act could make people feel. It was a lazy joke that often bore the same message: You may be a lot of things, but at...

Blunt: Amy Smart, Billy Zane, and more star in psychological thriller from Deadly Illusions director
Last year’s Deadly Illusions was the fourth feature directed by Anna Elizabeth James, but her first thriller. When it was released through the Netflix streaming service, it was the #1 movie on the service worldwide for eight days straight. So it makes sense that James’ fifth feature is also a thriller. This one is called Blunt and stars Amy Smart (Mirrors), Billy Zane (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight), Matt Davis (Terror of Dracula), Greer Grammer (Awkward), and Ne-Yo (Red Tails).
Smart’s character is
a single mother who wakes up to find herself hogtied and held captive at her country vacation rental by an unknown assailant. In a race against time, she must piece together clues from the previous guests to find out who assaulted her, and hopefully survive the ordeal.
Deadline reports that Voltage Pictures is handling global sales on Blunt and will be presenting it to potential buyers immediately.

Stronger in concept than execution, “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” is, as fans of Grady Hendrix’s YA source novel already know, studded with entertaining ideas. But while there’s certainly enough talent involved, the film adaptation can’t seem to coalesce around the cleverness and insight that made Hendrix’s book a bestseller.

Exclusive: ABC is developing Worst House on the Block, a half-hour comedy series from 20th Television.
Written by Niki Schwartz-Wright (Pivoting) and to be directed by Natalia Anderson (Maggie), Worst House on the Block has a Beverly Hillbillies vibe to it. In the show, when a poor family from South Texas inherits the worst house on the block in a chic L.A. neighborhood, they cause quite a stir among their new neighbors. Tensions may flare, but ultimately, we’ll watch as three different families, with nothing in common but their Zip code and how overwhelmed they feel by the sheer number of Love Island episodes there are to watch, start to find common ground and, slowly but surely, friendship.
Schwartz-Wright and Anderson executive produce with 3 Arts’ Oly Obst.
Most recently, Schwartz-Wright served as co-executive producer on Fox’s comedy series Pivoting. Before that, she was a co-executive producer on the NBC comedy series Abby’s.

Prime Video has debuted the trailer for ‘My Best Friend’s Exorcism,’ based on the novel from New York Times best-selling author Grady Hendrix.
Surviving the teenage years isn’t easy, especially when you’re possessed by a demon. It’s 1988, and best friends Abby (Elsie Fisher) and Gretchen (Amiah Miller) are navigating boys, pop culture, and a paranormal force clinging to Gretchen like a pair of neon legwarmers. With assistance from overly confident mall exorcist Christian Lemon (Christopher Lowell), Abby is determined to compel the demon back to the pits of hell—if it doesn’t kill Gretchen first. At turns horrifying and hilarious.
The movie pays homage to 1980s pop culture with a totally timeless tale of terror and true friendship.
Directed by Damon Thomas and written by Jenna Lamia, the film stars Elsie Fisher, Amiah Miller, Cathy Ang, Rachel Ogechi Kanu (Cheer for Your Life), and Christopher Lowell.

Chicago – Exceptional films that reflect honest relationships are rare, but the latest film “Don’t Make Me Go” – streaming on Prime Video on July 15th – accomplishes the father/daughter dynamic with authentic situations and emotions. John Cho and Mia Isaac portray that relationship, in a film directed by Hannah Marks.
John Cho is Max, a single father raising his 16-year-old daughter Wallace (Mia Isaac), a child from his failed marriage. When Max finds out he has a rare bone tumor, he takes Wallace on a road trip to meet her estranged mother. Winding from California to New Orleans, the pair face off during a series of incidences, including Wallace staying out all night with strangers in Texas. Despite all the travails, they begin to come to terms with the truth, including that mother reluctant to meet her daughter. It all ends up in a surprising conclusion, and changes all lives along the way.

Single father Max (John Cho) hits the road with his teenage daughter, Wally, in this touching dramedy from director Hannah Marks. But don’t expect too many laughs: The emphasis is on the drama, since Max just found out his headaches are caused by a tumor, and his chances of surviving surgery are about 20 percent. “Even though it’s very sad, it’s empowering,” Marks promises. Also, while Max has lessons to impart (like teaching Wally to drive), it’s a two-lane road trip. Marks notes, “It’s not just a father teaching his daughter about life, but a daughter teaching her father about life. It’s such an important relationship in so many people’s lives, but you don’t see it explored that often.” Don’t Make Me Go also stars Kaya Scodelario, Jemaine Clement, Josh Thomson, Otis Dhanji, Stefania Lavie Owen, and more. It should only take a few minutes for someone to know whether “Boo, Bitch” is for them or not. Netflix’s latest young adult series is unabashed in announcing itself, with high schoolers speaking in impossibly long hashtags and acronyms, and dialogue that plays out as if written in All Caps. For those tuning in to see what star Lana Condor is up to after playing Lara Jean in the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy, the show’s hyperactive tone at least gives her the chance to play someone rather different. Condor’s latest high school character, Erika Vu of “Boo, Bitch,” ends up a far more concentrated version of Lara Jean in ways that both point to Condor’s versatility as an actor and reveal the cracks in the show’s tricky premise.

Marks (and Isaac and Cho) will revisit Wally’s declaration and it will prove to be true: “Don’t Make Me Go” is Also true: Where this road trip movie ends its journey will...
