Christian apologetics...
davidvliet16 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a well done approach to examining the historicity and authenticity of New Testament and the Book of Mormon. There's debunking here of the foundations Mormonism through the lack of accuracy In Mormon prophecy and examination of ancient texts; there aren't any.. It also uses aspects of the historical method.m and contains some uncomfortable moments with a devout Mormon who is slightly out gunned by documentarian who is clearly trained in apologetics.

Interesting examination of LDS prophets.

A gentleman that is a Christian from the United States travels to Jerusalem and meets with an American Mormon there to discuss LDS prophets.

The documentary includes interviews with specialist that are able to provide additional historical information that proves to be useful to the film.

Avoid this if you want an honest discussion about the Bible and BofM
cmearssrr3 January 2019
This was a documentary that was weak on facts and had a predetermined outcome in mind. The Evangelical host uses weak arguments to disprove the B of M while ignoring his own weak points to prove the Bible. Not a lot of intellectual honesty here. This advertises itself as a fair comparison, which it is not. Save yourself a hour and watch the Simpsons. There's more intellectual content in an episode of that cartoon than this documentary.

Disregard all reviews, and watch this film for yourself.
mattyg-4863616 May 2021
Disregard all reviews, and watch this film, and judge it for yourself. It's clear to see that all the Mormons who have put this documentary down have poor judgment and acknowledge that their own religious system is flawed to begin with, and have weak faith, so they feel compelled to discredit anything that questions their faith. I pray for all Mormons that the truth will be revealed to them, and they repent of their sins and give their hearts to Christ Jesus.

Aren't straw-men the best?!

Warning: Spoilers
This documentary, like many people with an axe to grind, makes a classic mistake when analyzing the Book of Mormon. In order to prove (or disprove) a book you must analyze what it actually says rather than what you *think* it says.

They begin with Nephi and criticize a particular passage (1 Nephi 13:26) that says, "And after they {the writings of the Bible} go forth by the hand of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews unto the Gentiles, thou seest the formation of that great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches; for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away."

They then ask a regular member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints how the "plain and precious" parts could have been taken away from the Bible. He replies with a common theory among our church members that monks made conscious changes during transcription. They then proceed to destroy that theory with modern evidence. Fair enough, because that theory isn't great anyway.

However they ignore the entire prophecy itself. The prophecy is about a church that takes away the plain and precious parts of the "gospel"- not the Bible. How do they do that? They don't change the Bible. They take away the Bible altogether. For several centuries only the clergy were allowed access to the actual Bible. It was written primarily in Latin and kept from the eyes of the people. After the invention of the printing press, the first attempts at making the Bible generally available resulted in the unceremonious execution of those responsible for such an egregious act. Several martyrs gave their lives during the early days of the reformation for their belief that the Bible should read by all people in their own language whenever possible.

When the Bible actually began to be distributed widely, many realized that the Church was not following what the Bible actually said. The entire reformation was based on that exact same premise. If Nephi was wrong, so then was the entirety of the Protestant movement.

I have not yet finished the film. I had to stop so as not to become completely frustrated by the errors and omissions, from both the Protestant do-gooder and the "regular" Mormon dude.

And You'll Be Free Indeed!
homeisjax5 April 2020
The two nasty comments are clearly from Mormons, which is sad & distressing! But Jesus said this would happen...& you can lead ppl to the Truth but you can't make them accept it!

I've cut all ties with denominations/religion! Esp upon seeing the First Beast bring all religions together saying we all worship the same god! Ugh! As I get better acquainted with the Bible, both Old & New Testaments, more is being revealed that wasn't all the times I read the same Scriptures before. God is SO Good! It's been wonderful, but unnerving at the same time because A Lot of ppl will say, "Lord, Lord" & it's a sad thought. Ppl's puffed up pride and worldly love for man & tradition is sentencing them to hell & it doesn't need to be that way!

The Scriptures warn us of everything to watch for to know if someone is of God or just an ear tickler. Frankly, IMO, it's more easy now to identify the false teachers & the religions of men than it ever has been before!

I found the Doc to be simple and concise. No fancy fillers; no competition of "my belief is better than yours"...& you backed up every single point with fact & Scripture! If that man stayed in that Cult (again, my opinion) even AFTER you showed him the Truth, By God's Grace, His Blood Will Not Be On Your Hands!

Thank you for your doc. I'm glad it's one I stumbled upon in my search for learning about all denominations & what their beliefs are. Jesus wasn't lying about "few would enter" & Matthew 7:6-9 is spot on~Isaiah spoke EXACT TRUTH! In fact, the two pro-B.o.M. comments proves Isaiah's words to a T! They're most likely in "church" every week & on bicycles in between in their supposed following of God, yet the god they're spreading is a false god.

If what you're being taught doesn't line up with the Bible, RUN! Men's hearts are no less wicked than when the Flood came & they will absolutely play the deity & lead you straight to your slaughter!

I Pray That More Ppl Than Not Find Their Way To Jesus & We All Reign Together For Eternity In The Presence Of The LORD! God Bless!

Biased

Scholars versus a man who obviously was not a scholar? I would have liked it to be more of a scholarly discussion instead of a "gotcha" approach. The interviewer definitely had an agenda. Not very well made, but had potential.

Joseph Smith
jasonbaker087830 April 2020
First what a terrific and concise film on what Mormons believe. Failed prophet is and understatement. How do you believe that in 1830 , The God of the Bible decided to a barn in Missouri to set the record straight by revealing The True Word to a failed minister? That 3 Gold plates were sent from heaven and he and three witnesses copied it word for word before it disappeared.

If you believe that, there's a piece of land in Missouri where Joseph Smith built a temple!!!!! Only takes one failed prophecy of a so called prophet to damn your soul to hell....

Your magic underwear really isn't as magical as you thought...

This is made with love from God
jasonbennett-7755010 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
God was living and powerful and His words only speak the truth. His love is so great that He wants to save and free the followers of Mormonism.

I have a Mormon friend who has become dear to me and I didn't know anything about Mormonism and so I listened and tried to understand and it was very hard. He is probably among the best people I've met in life but his belief I couldn't understand. Then I stumbled across this on Prime Video. The whole time I felt the love God has for my friend. I am going to share this with him; I pray that God draw him closer to him and open his eyes, ears, and most importantly his heart to hear, see, and receive the truth. And I pray that he will not be destroyed in his faith and that he not be devastated but simply redirected to the love of Christ alone and find grace, mercy, and peace.

What a great setup you use Christian scholars and he gets nothing.
utes-7630621 June 2020
Try some fairness that LDS man you used wasn't studied in the Book Of Mormon. You get scholar's and he gets nothing but you running the whole thing it's ridiculous.

As fair as a machine gun in a knife fight!
ryanj-995653 August 2020
I'm sorry for that crude analogy above but this documentary is just a staged sabotage of Mormonism to promote an agenda. The creators of this film have created many other anti-Mormon films. It's their agenda.

This film's description proports this to be a dialogue between a Christian and a Mormon but that is not an accurate description. Basically the filmmaker has prepared a series of targeted questions aimed to trap the unsuspecting defendant, recorded interviews of scholars defending his argument, and then spliced in an "interview" with a lay member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints (aka Mormon Church), who is not allowed an opportunity in advance to know what questions will be asked, nor provided any time outside of the interview to present a well organized response, nor allowed any Mormon scholars to assist him. Clearly some of the responses from the Mormon are not scholarly. They are just the first thing that comes to mind, in that moment, and many are in response to leading questions aimed to trap him in his words. Then they are followed up by a scholar to discredit the response. It's a completely unfair presentation. It's like watching a court case where the prosecution presents their arguments, picks apart the only witness (who is highly coercible and has not been prepped by the defense council) then the case is closed, without any case presented by the defense council.

This is a staged production, where the film creators control the stage. There's no attempt to have a balanced discussion where both parties are on equal ground.

If you really want to form your own opinion on Mormonism, then spend a hour and a half reading the Book of Mormon, rather than that same amount of time watching this film.

Joseph Smith deserves scrutiny
mattwalterstx16 June 2021
When a person orients their life to follow Joseph Smith's writings, Smith's claims deserve scrutiny just like any prophet. All prophets and their books must also be scrutinized. This does a good job of presenting the case against Smith's prophets. I like the way the filmmaker kindly discusses this with a Mormon. It's a much kinder discussion than a lot of Mormonism critiques on YouTube.

Not from an objective perspective
amitdass-6737710 May 2020
The first 20 mins was enough to tell me this is in no way an objective "documentary." The major flaw in this is that it claims very early that no original manuscripts written by ancient prophets of Book of Mormon exists on earth so it must be false. However on the other hand, no original complete manuscripts of the Bible exists today so just like the Book of Mormon, we can't compare it to its original source. The other thing that got me is that the film maker interviews experts to prove the authenticity of the Bible, however when it comes to the Book of Mormon, just someone who's been a member of that religion for a long time and not a Mormon scholar or religious professor! This COULD have been a great documentary but unfortunately turned out to be very one sided with what seems to be anti-Mormon propaganda.

Proof of the Fabricated Book of Mormon and it's False Prophet
richie51503 August 2022
As an ex-mormon, I can appreciate the way that this movie progresses and all the points that it touches upon. As technology, archaeology, and linguistics progress, it is so obvious that the Bible is the Word of God. The evidence is everywhere!

This movie is in no way disrespectful to Mormons and it carries a message of Love and understanding towards their being lost, an exposure of only several of many corrupted beliefs, and a hope for their return to the Word of God.

The producers could have touched base on the dark past of Mormonism with topics like: polygamy (Josephs 30+ wives/some only 14 yrs old, many had husbands), the churches public coverup (lying about Josephs practice of polygamy), the Book of Abraham (Smith claimed to have deciphered from an ancient scroll and it turned out to be a total hoax/Translators prove Smith a con man), the Journal of Discourses (recorded conflicting beliefs and statements from the early years of the church/ the Journal is a word for word accounting of sermons and church teachings), The First Vision (which is a lie because no man can see God's face and live/ check Exodus 33:20), the JST Bible (where Smith writes himself into the prophecies of the Bible and adds a significant amount of untrue and unfounded text), the Book of Mormon (200+ changes to text and meanings/near 4,000 changes if you include all errors of transcription), Nephites and Lamanites (a story of a people and war that never existed),Book of Mormon (Smith again writes himself into prophecy and copies text from the Bible), Hill Cumorah War (enormous war and death toll and not a single shread of evidence to prove it happened/ another fabricated story by Smith), Nauvoo Expositor (destroyed by Smith for exposing him to public), Joseph Smith was incarcerated for treason and conspiracy (his abuses upon the people of the United States, the church's men, women, and worst of all.. children, led to his incarceration and murder), Smith was a felon (while under arrest, Smith arranged for a gun to be brought and smuggled in and he shot 3 persons before being gunned down by other felons), Kirtland Bank (Joseph swindled his followers).... There is much more to touch base upon, but I am content that the producers of this movie kept it simple and used God's Word to attempt to bring the Mormon's into the light of Christ and see the errors of their ways.

It's so uplifting to see Love being shared between people !!!
