George Miller’s epic Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is now playing in theatres. It’s the latest entry into the definitive post-apocalyptic saga of our time and a series that minted Mel Gibson as a global superstar, transformed Charlize Theron into an action heroine, and seems poised to do the same for Anya Taylor-Joy. In my opinion, there’s never been a bad Mad Max film, as they’re all quite different in tone and technique, although we all have our favorite. So, here’s our JoBlo list of Mad Max movies ranked from worst to best!
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985):
The only PG-13 entry in the saga, this movie has scenes that seem shocking for how cheesy they are in the context of the series. The two movies that came before this pushed the boundaries of their R-ratings, so I’m not sure what kind of...

It is always a nice surprise when someone very talented and famous also turns out to be a very pleasant, down to earth person, and that is the case with Eddie Peng, the Taiwanese superstar whose career spans over two decades. His success didn't happen over night though, and it took his collaboration with Ann Hui on two titles to prove the versatility of his acting performance: war drama set up in the 1940s “Our Time Will Come” (2017), and romance “Love After Love” (2020). Already before this international breakthrough, Peng had a huge teenage following due to the success of Yang Daqing's TV series adaptation of the popular manga “Tomorrow” (2002). One could say that he was never shy of testing his acting capabilities by diving into diverse projects from romantic comedies and dramas, to adrenaline pumped action movies, which made him one of the most popular actors on the Asian continent.

Every April 5th, Star Trek fans celebrate First Contact Day. As established in the 1996 movie Star Trek: First Contact, First Contact Day celebrates the anniversary of Vulcans establishing contact with humans, after the latter launches their first warp-capable vehicle. From that moment, humanity took its first steps into the wider galaxy, establishing Starfleet and then exploring the cosmos, as documented in the prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise.
But apparently First Contact and Enterprise weren’t enough to tell that Star Trek origin story. According to a report by THR, the first film in production will be an origin film “set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed J.J. Abrams, likely around modern times,” and dealing with “the creation of Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life.”
At best, such an origin story is repetitive and unnecessary. At worst, it misses the entire point of Star Trek.

“As a huge Trekkie myself, I am always tempted to use the theme, to install all these little Easter eggs,” reveals “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” composer Nami Melumad. about the most exciting parts of the show’s score; the orchestral melodies that duck and dive between robust action drama and beloved old-school flourishes like the instantly recognizable original series theme. For our recent webchat she adds, “I think for all composers who work on ‘Trek’ you have to be very aware of when you’re choosing to use the ‘Star Trek’ theme. You want to bring it when it’s earned, otherwise, if you just continue to use it all the time, it loses its effectiveness. It’s like the icing on the cake, it’s like something we’re all always so looking forward to.” We talked with Melumad as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the...

From Superman: The Animated Series, and Batman: The Animated Series to Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, Timm had a role to play in the creation of all these IPs, all of which shared a continuity, together being referred to as the Dcau.

Batman Beyond remains one of the greatest versions of the Dark Knight, following Terry McGinnis in the city of Neo Gotham, as he is mentored by Bruce Wayne in a cyberpunk setting. Bruce Timm, in conversation with Think McFly Think, revealed the original ending that the show was supposed to have, which has a rather Star Wars quality to it. The original ending would also have been a direct-to-video film, much like The Return of the Joker.
The original ending of Batman Beyond was to reveal Bruce Wayne as Terry McGinnis’ biological father

Bruce Timm had a lot to say about Batman Beyond, especially when it came to the ideas about the ending of the show.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War was an original story that served as a sequel to Justice League Dark. The film served as the finale to the Dcau, which was then rebooted into the Tomorrow-verse. But while those menacing villains don’t seem to be able to terrify him, there’s something else that managed to do that part. Crisis on Infinite Earths is a three-part culmination of the Tomorrow-verse, which means that a lot of the characters that would appear in the trilogy would have made an appearance in previous installments of the shared universe. Not only was this a way to get fans excited about cameos and a connected universe, but it also allowed a brilliant cost-cutting strategy to take hold as a part of the production of the three films.

Paul McCartney & Wings are finally offering a physical release of one of their most bootlegged albums: One Hand Clapping, the live studio sessions conducted post-Band on the Run in 1974 for a seldom-seen documentary film, will arrive everywhere on June 14th.

Updated: The Cannes Film Festival will have an admirable UK and Irish presence in 2024, including three films from Dublin, London and Belfast-based production company Element Pictures, Andrea Arnold’s Bird in Competition and features from fresh talents Sandhya Suri and Rungano Nyoni, as well as Sister Midnight in Directors’ Fortnight.
Competition is still proving a tricky spot to land for UK or Irish directors. In 2022, none made the cut, while in 2023, UK filmmakers Ken Loach and Jonathan Glazer made it through with The Old Oak and The Zone Of Interest respectively.

Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor will make their Broadway debuts in a new production of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet this fall.
The production will feature music by Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff, who is also making his Broadway debut, movement by Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) and direction by Sam Gold. Exact dates and a theater have yet to be announced, but tickets are set to go on sale in May.
While few details have been released about this version of the Shakespeare classic, the production is using the tagline “The Youth Are Fucked” and promises an angrier take on the tale.
“With the presidential election coming up in November, I felt like making a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and unleashes the anger young people feel about the world they are inheriting,” said Gold, who is helming this season’s An Enemy of the People.

During the Q&a and proposal segments of the shareholder meeting, the same message came up a couple of times about Disney’s political leanings and messaging choices in entertainment. Franchise animation Kung Fu Panda 4 and creature clash Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire lead a bumper weekend of 16 new films at the UK-Ireland box office.
Universal’s Kung Fu Panda 4 has the biggest opening of the weekend in 715 sites – a significant jump for the series, after 2008’s Kung Fu Panda (448) and sequels in 2011 (514) and 2016 (585), all through Paramount.
Conversely, the total grosses of each film have dropped, with the first title making £20.4m, followed by £17m and £14.2m for the sequels. All of these were pre-pandemic; number four will look to cross the £10m mark before challenging any of those totals.

Before Blu-ray or DVD, before you could just open up an app on your phone and stream things, there was the beloved VHS tape, that most bulky of physical media. The life of Rosa Bonheur, a trailblazing feminist and artist who rose to fame in 19th century France, will be played by Melanie Laurent in a sprawling period movie directed by Fabienne Berthaud.
“Rosa Bonheur” is being produced by Carole Scotta, Barbara Letellier and Caroline Benjo at Haut et Court, the company behind “Coco Before Chanel” and “The Night of the 12th,” which won a raft of Cesar Awards last year.
The biopic reteams Haut et Court with Berthaud following her previous films, notably Diane Kruger starrer ”Lily Sometimes,” which played at Cannes’ Director’s fortnight in 2010, and 2019’s ”A Bigger World,” starring Cecile de France, which bowed at Venice. Haut et Court will also distribute “Rosa Bonheur” in France.
The movie will shoot on location in Bonheur’s well-preserved atelier at her Château de By in Thomery, where she worked and lived for over 40 years, alongside her partner Nathalie...
