Robert Plant is highly amused by Paul McCartney’s dubbing the Rolling Stones “a blues cover band,” perhaps in part because his own old band faced similar criticism. “I don’t think there’s any fighting,” he says in the new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now. “They’ve known each other since 1963. They love each other desperately.” Still, if there’s any animus, he knows how to resolve it: McCartney, he says, “should just play bass with the Stones.”

Bernard MacMahon assumes we know a lot about Led Zeppelin. He’d guess that most fans have listened to the riffs and record sides thousands of times, tracked down the bootlegs, scoured YouTube for clips, read Hammer of the Gods and can recite the anecdotes of backstage debauchery (whether or not they involve deep-sea predators and/or the occult), concur that the stairways to heaven have now all been bought. The documentarian takes it for granted that even those who don’t know that words sometimes have two meanings are...

Are you fucking kidding me?!
You probably uttered this statement in awe at least a few times, dear readers of The Dirt, when you picked up Motley Crue’s 2001 memoir about their life and times as world-class degenerates. Less a biography than a police rap sheet in book form, it’s the sort of glorious backstage tell-all that makes you feel like you can’t turn the pages fast enough; only Hammer of the Gods can compete with it as the ultimate tale of rock stars outdoing Roman emperors in terms of debauchery.

It’s not often you see a movie open where a rock star performs cunnilingus with gusto in the middle of a party, while the singer of the band doggy style fucks another and then said groupie squirts across the room in stuttering slow motion to an eruption of rowdy cheers. But hey, this is the story of Mötley Crüe, and these dirtbag lowlifes are obviously a classy bunch. Because, if you take classic tales of debauched hedonism— Led Zeppelin’s Hammer of the Gods, Aerosmith’s Walk This Way, and even Marilyn Manson’s The Long Hard Road Out of Hell— Mötley Crüe’s The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, takes the cake.

Horror movies are not so fun when daily life is scarier. I couldn’t jettison that thought while watching “Shut In” Friday morning at my local theater, where less than a half-dozen people sat in a dark room to watch the latest from director Farren Blackburn (“Hammer of the Gods”). It’s neither the film’s nor Blackburn’s fault that this week has been historically painful. To focus energy on anything resembling pop culture is exceedingly difficult right now. Films, television, a new Tribe Called Quest album: all of it seems to pale in comparison to the specter of Donald Trump’s presidency.

2Nd Update (9/23, 3:23 Pdt): An earlier version of this article listed Elle Evans as the actress who plays the title role in The Love Witch. That distinction in fact goes to Samantha Robinson. We regret the error. Update (9/22, 11:37 Pm Pdt): The same day this article was published, Paramount pushed back the release date for Rings from October 28 to February 3, 2017. Original Article: Fall has traditionally been viewed as the prime time of year for the horror film, but this summer was actually a pretty good one for the genre, with movies like The Conjuring 2, Lights Out, and the surprise smash Don't Breathe doing gangbusters business in the midst of blockbuster season. But the year's not over yet! With September in full swing, there are a number of worthwhile (and, yes, questionable) titles looming on the release calendar over the next three months. Naomi Watts is a child psychologist driven insane by unseen forces in the trailer for horror thriller Shut In.
The trailer for the upcoming film Shut In depicts a protagonist stuck in a rural indoor location due to a deadly snow storm, as the ominous advances of apparent ghosts slowly drive said protagonist insane. No, it’s not a remake of The Shining. However, in some sense, Shut In has taken the crux of that formula and puts Naomi Watts into the mix for a suspenseful, insular horror thriller that seems to raise questions about what we’re supposed to be witnessing.

Spare a thought for up-and-comer Jacob Tremblay. After wowing audiences with his breakout performance in Room – a breakout performance that had him largely confined to a petite space with only Brie Larson’s doting mother for company – the actor is now headed for an old and isolated abode in the bitter-cold outback for Farren Blackburn (Hammer of the Gods) thriller, Shut In.
Based on a script penned by Christina Hodson, Tremblay plays Tom, an estranged young boy who will be causing all sorts of headaches for Naomi Watts’ troubled lead. That’s Mary, a widowed child psychologist who begins to suspect that she’s being haunted by Tremblay’s disturbed foster child who went missing under her care. Compounding that feeling of dread is the fact Mary is spending her hours caring for her catatonic, wheelchair-bound stepson, played here by Stranger Things alum Charlie Heaton.

The first trailer has arrived for Shut In, a thriller starring Naomi Watts as a reclusive child psychologist who must save a boy during a deadly winter storm. Of course, things are not quite what they seem, and the situation spirals out of control for everyone involved. Not to be confused with Adam Schindler’s Intruders, which was originally titled Shut In, this film is helmed by Hammer of the Gods director Farren Blackburn, off a script penned by Christina Hodson.
A promising aspect behind the camera is cinematographer Yves Bélanger, who has lensed films such as Dallas Buyers Club, Brooklyn, and Demolition. His eye combined with a thriller atmosphere should make for an interesting palette against the snowy backdrop of the New England-set film. See the trailer below (via USA Today), which also stars Jacob Tremblay, Oliver Platt, and Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton.
Shut In opens November 11th.

Throughout the years, the creative minds behind Supernatural have managed to find a way to believably include comedic elements within the framework of the series without jumping the shark, so to speak. The promo video for “Just My Imagination” shows that they look to continue this tradition. Fans of episodes such as “Tall Tales,” “Wishful Thinking,” and “Changing Channels” are well advised to set their DVRs for what could very well be an installment that we will be talking about for years to come.
In this episode, Sam’s childhood imaginary friend, Sully, manifests himself and can be seen by Dean as well. Not only that, but similar occurrences happen throughout town.
What could possibly be the cause of these bizarre happenings?
The answer likely lies with the director of this particular episode: Richard Speight, Jr. Longtime fans will recognize him as the actor who played The Trickster/ Loki/ Gabriel.

I really wanted to like Sword of Vengeance, I really did. Billed as “an almighty clash between Hammer of the Gods and Game of Thrones”, the film comes from the same people that worked on Nicolas Winding-Refn’s Valhalla Rising – to be fair that should have thrown up a warning or two given how much I hated that film – and tells the story of the Shadow Walker (Weber) who, cast out by the ruthless king, is searching for a new place to call home but clashes with many of the kingdom’s inhabitants along his journey. His story crosses paths with that of warrior Anna (Wallis) who, after the death of her husband, is called upon to lead her fellow Saxons into battle.

The fifth Pirates of the Carribbean film in Disney’s cash-cow franchise could be a reboot. The news comes from an interview IGN did with Orlando Bloom. Earlier this year the actor revealed that he has been in talks with the studio to reprise his role as Will Turner. There’s no official word on if that’s actually the case or not, but when asked about Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales he said:
“I’m not entirely sure that [I'll be back] just yet, but there are talks. Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son… I’m of course Davey Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me.

Disney is almost done casting the fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. The studio is looking to cast the female lead and they've narrowed their search down to five actress including Kaya Scodelaria (Skins, The Maze Runner) and Gabriella Wilde (Endless Love, Carrie).
Also on the list are Lucy Boynton (Miss Potter, Ballet Shoes), Alexandra Dowling (Hammer of the Gods, “The Musketeers”), and Jenna Thiam (Vie sauvage, “The Returned”). The details of this role are being kept under wraps, but sources suggest that the actress who is cast will play the love interest of Brenton Thwaites, who will play a British soldier. (Especially because Disney is running chemistry tests between said actresses and Thwaites this week.)
Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Jack Sparrow, and Javier Bardem is onboard to play the villain. Although unconfirmed, there are also rumors that Orlando Bloom will return as William Turner.

Perhaps the only news of note this week is that in a move echoing what they did with Breaking Bad, Netflix has swooped in and gained rights to the TV series of From Dusk Til Dawn made in the states for Robert Rodriguez’s new El Rey network cable channel. Netflix will stream the episodes the day after they air in the states every week, curiously they are still billing this as ‘A Netflix Original’ when this isn’t the case necessarily. I have no idea as to the quality of this, the film From Dusk Til Dawn was one of my favourites when I was a teenager but how you drag that out into a ten part TV show I don’t know, let alone a possible second series. I watched the trailer and it looks solid and well-made as opposed to a cheap cash in and features Don Johnson...

Last week we learned that Hammer Films is prepping a modern day take on their 1957 film The Abominable Snowman, which they described in a press release as a modern twist on the original film.
So is it a remake? A reimagining? A reboot?! I turn the tables over to Hammer for more of an explanation!
Hammer's CEO Simon Oakes and producer Ben Holden opened up about the film with Empire, revealing details about what we can expect from it. "We're not remaking the Val Guest film," says Holden. "We're starting again from scratch, but the conversation began because that creature or that myth is part of the Hammer library or lexicon, and we wanted to develop something around it."
"Our version of The Abominable Snowman will have something of the uncanny about it," continues Oakes, "and it'll have the mythology and all the big [original writer] Nigel Kneale ideas of man and beast and nature.

Hammer, the folks behind the surprise horror hit “The Woman in Black” starring Harry Potter, and its upcoming sequel, “The Woman in Black: Angel of Death” are gearing up a remake of “The Abominable Snowman”. The “re-envisioning” of the 1957 film by Val Guest will be a modern take on the Yeti myth, about “a scientific expedition’s illegal assent up an unclimbed peak of one of the World’s most formidable mountains accidentally awakens an ancient creature that could spell a certain end for them all.” That’s essentially the plot of the original, which starred Forrest Tucker, Peter Cushing, and Maureen Connell.
