NBC has given a series order to “Happy’s Place,” the Reba McEntire-led pilot the network ordered in January, and greenlit “Lopez vs. Lopez” for Season 3. The multi-cam comedy will debut during the 2024-2024 broadcast season.
“Happy’s Place” follows Bobbie (Reba McEntire), who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister (Belissa Escobedo) she never knew she had. The cast also includes Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk and Rex Linn. Universal Television is the studio.
With Kevin Abbott writing the series and executive producing alongside Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis, Julie Abbott and McEntire, “Happy’s Place” reunites the team who produced “Reba” for six seasons from 2001 to 2007. There was no need to worry that Reba McEntire might mess up or bring any unnecessary flourishes to “The Star-Spangled Banner” when she performed the National Anthem prior to the Super Bowl on Sunday evening. Unlike anyone else who’d done it prior to the Bowl or any other major NFL game in recent memory, she brought a full half-century’s experience of singing the anthem to the occasion.
The year 2024 marks a special anniversary for the country superstar and her association with the song: She is often said to have been “discovered” 50 years ago when she sang it at the 1974 National Finals Rodeo in her home state of Oklahoma, when she was just 19.
McEntire’s latest rendition of the anthem was more fully orchestrated than some other recent versions — or even her own past readings — have been, with a pre-recorded horn section sending the song toward a big climax.

“Sitcoms are the best,” she said. “You work during the week, you have the weekends off and you get the summer off. That’s what it was when we shot ‘Reba’.”
As for whether a new sitcom might actually happen, McEntire shared that she’s very hopeful about the possibility.
“We’re working. Fingers crossed,” she said. “Hopefully soon we’ll have another sitcom. We’re always working on ideas and things, new projects. And you have to do that because you never know which ones… We pile them into a funnel and see what comes out at the bottom.

From Disney darling to pop star, Dove Cameron's career has undergone quite the evolution since she began acting in her early teens. The versatile actor's earliest fans grew up alongside her as she played identical twins "Liv and Maddie" for four seasons on the hit Disney Channel show. But Cameron's professional acting career began even earlier, when she memorably guest-starred in two episodes of "Shameless" as Holly Herkimer, a young woman who was interested in Lip Gallagher (Jeremy Allen White).
Cameron's early work in "Shameless" and "Liv and Maddie" showed off the actor's range. Right from the start of her career, it was clear she could pull off comedic and dramatic roles, just as she could pivot between family-friendly fare and more daring projects. In recent years, she's continued to challenge herself as an actor with roles in B.J. Novak's directorial debut, "Vengeance" and Hulu's comedic...

Her roots were planted in the past. Though her life was changing fast, who she was was who she wanted to be. Twenty years ago, the now defunct WB network introduced a family sitcom starring country music icon and American treasure Reba McEntire. Appropriately titled “Reba,” in the multicamera sitcom, McEntire plays Reba Hart, a recent divorcee who now has to handle being a single mother who worked too hard — but who also loves her kids and never stops.
Of course, outside of just the financial struggles of becoming a single mother (when the father was the breadwinner), this new normal was made even more difficult for Reba with the reveal that her eldest child, popular high school cheerleader Cheyenne (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), was impregnated by her himbo boyfriend, star high school football player Van (Steve Howey). Sara Rue is set as a series regular in NBC’s Prism pilot, from Daniel and Ben Barnz’s We’re Not Brothers Productions, Carol Mendelsohn, Julie Weitz and Universal Television.
Written by Daniel Barnz, who also directs, Prism is inspired by Rashomon, the 1950 Japanese period psychological thriller directed by Akira Kurosawa. Prism is described as a provocative exploration of a murder trial in which every episode is told through the perspective of a different key person involved. Each new version of the facts ratchets up the mystery and the suspense, calling into question everything we have seen so far and asking is the right person on trial? Driven by an ensemble of complicated characters, the show lets the audience ask if truth matters less than who can tell the most compelling story.

Sometimes, the holidays bring people together for nothing but good reasons. Close to four months after Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid broke up and called off their engagement, the pair stepped out together on Easter Sunday proving they remain on friendly terms. While stopping by the Malibu Country Mart, an eyewitness described the pair as looking "very happy" as they enjoyed lunch at Tra di Noi. The duo, along with Courteney's daughter Coco, later stopped in neighboring stores including Sephora and M. Fredric. Before leaving the popular shopping center for the day, cameras caught Johnny opening the door for his ex before driving off in the same vehicle. "They really care...

It's been a good year for TV – and by TV, we mean those serialized shows you probably watch on your computer or smartphone. Regardless of the technology you use to watch it, however, television has been growing bigger, better and more daring in recent years, to the point that it's the go-to format for people who want to tell a story in greater depth than they could in a movie.

It's become a little game that ABC plays each spring. In a big burst, the network renews nearly all of its shows and then leaves "Last Man Standing" to sweat it out for a renewal a day or two later. On one hand, it might be considered mean. On the other hand, by doing it this way, "Last Man Standing" gets a separate renewal story all to itself each year. As it ever was, so it is again: Two days after ABC issued every other one of its renewals, "Last Man Standing" has been picked up for a fifth season. In its fourth season, and its third season on Friday nights, "Last Man Standing" averaged 6.8 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49. That's not bad for a comedy with no lead-in on a vicious night, as "Last Man Standing" generally beat CBS' "The Amazing Race" for their shared half-hour.

[In case you've Forgotten, and as I will continue to mention each and every one of these posts that I do: This is *not* a review. Pilots change. Sometimes a lot. Often for the better. Sometimes for the worse. But they change. Actual reviews will be coming in September and perhaps October (and maybe midseason in some cases). This is, however, a brief gut reaction to not-for-air pilots. I know some people will be all "These are reviews." If you've read me, you've read my reviews and you know this isn't what they look like.] Show: "Cristela" (ABC) The Pitch: "Cristela Alonzo is fairly popular with a certain audience and if you just schedule it on Friday after 'Last Man Standing,' nobody will even notice if it fails. Remember 'Malibu Country'?" "Huh?" "Exactly." Quick Response: There isn't much to say here beyond a repetition of what I already wrote about "Mulaney" and "The McCarthys." In person at TCA press tour, Cristela Alonzo was smart, funny and her energy and enthusiasm were infectious. Her stories about her upbringing and her early days in comedy were amusing and entertaining. However, in the context of the pilot she co-created with Kevin Hench, Alonzo isn't exactly sure how to capture that energy and enthusiasm on camera. Multi-cam probably is a good choice for "Cristela," because Alonzo's style isn't small. She's very expressive and periodically loud and you can understand why she'd want the approval of an...

[As is my recent tradition, over the next six days, I'm going to be glancing, night-by-night, at how the primetime schedules have changed after the network announcements at upfronts. I'll be looking at how the various changes will impact the ratings races on each night, as well as my own DVRing habits. Readers can chime in on how their own DVRs will be impacted. And yes, this brief series assumes that anybody still watches TV on their TVs. I'm old-fashioned. It also assumes that you/I only have a dual tuner DVR (plus occasional access to a Slingbox on Et. Check out last year's DVR Gridlock installments and the DVR Gridlock segments for 2012.] Friday Nights 8:00 p.m. ABC: "Last Man Standing," "Cristela" CBS: "The Amazing Race" The CW: "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
