Coming Next Week(!) from Fox is The Gifted, aka the X-Men TV show (which will Not feature any X-Men – a plot point which is central to the mystery of the show), which focuses on a suburban couple – the Struckers – whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
The Gifted comes from executive producer Matt Nix (Burn Notice), who will also be the showrunner on the series; whilst Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men 2) is directing the pilot. The cast includes Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale as Eclipse / Marcos Diaz, Jamie Chung as Blink / Clarice Fong, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont as Polaris / Lorna Dane, Blair Redford as Thunderbird / John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker,...

There aren’t many shows that even have the theoretical possibility of getting me more interested in them than The Gifted. The Marvel Universe on television has mostly worked out for me, but more importantly, I want to know what Matt Nix does with the show, and I’m a pretty big fan of Amy Acker.
I’m not exactly sure how you keep an “on the run” story going forever, but it should be worth finding out where this can twist around its own gimmick. Previous looks at the show have already set things up pretty well, and if nothing else it looks like this is going to be a fun exploration of characters that goes a bit darker, much like the Netflix series we’ve seen so far.
You now have the chance to get a serious introduction with the first six minutes of the show so definitely check that out above,...

President Donald Trump‘s use of Twitter has long been a controversial component of his presidency, for several reasons. One of them is his frequent hitting of the “block” button, which the president has unleashed on a number of notable actors, authors and activists who have used Twitter as a platform to criticize him and his administration.
On Tuesday, model Chrissy Teigen, voted one of Time’s 2017 “25 Most Influential People on the Internet,” was the latest to be blocked by the president.

Mel Gibson’s first movie as a director in over decade, Hacksaw Ridge had it’s world premiere, out of competition, at the Venice Film Festival, taking place on it’s long standing home of the island of Lido, last night, and, as reported by Deadline, the movie moved the audience to their feet, receiving a 10 minute standing ovation after the credits rolled. You would think this was nothing out of the ordinary, expect standing o’s are a something of a rarity for this particular festival. Six minutes in, Gibson and stars Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Hugo Weaving, Teresa Palmer, and Luke Bracey were asked to go down into the audience, where they mingled with those in attendance. Telling the true story of Desmond Doss (Garfield), the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honour, a pacifist and army medic who saved 75 fellow soldiers on Okinawa without even carrying a gun,...

When J.J. Abrams confirmed that the third Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer would be the last, plenty of fans applauded his restraint. “Earth didn’t need another hero,” Kara Danvers, aka Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, states during the opening minutes of CBS’ new series based on the DC Comics character. She’s talking about her cousin, the man in blue, or any number of illustrious pseudonyms the writers have come up with to avoid saying “Superman” for some reason. See, Kara was sent to Earth not five minutes after Kal-El, with a mission to protect her younger cousin, but an unfortunate redoubt leads her into the “Phantom Zone,” where she sits in sleep for two decades while Kal becomes a hot shot on Earth without her.
Once Kara arrives and gets placed into the adoptive custody of the Danvers (hey, Dean Cain!), she has to readjust to life with no clear mission – a two-decades-in-the-making superhero doesn’t exactly need protection – or a purpose. Rudderless without meaning,...

Arrow Video unveils one of the most impressive Blu-ray packages of 2015 with its remastered presentation of Brian Yuzna’s languished body horror classic Society. Completed in 1989, along with the writer/producer’s sophomore effort Bride of Re-Animator, his debut wouldn’t see theatrical release in the Us until 1992, several months after David Cronenberg unveiled similar monstrous sphincter designs in the celebrated Naked Lunch. Though it’s generated a loyal cult following, and was treated to a 2002 DVD release that’s long been out of print, Yuzna’s class conscious metaphor still manages to unsettle with its inspired gross-out spectacle, gifting audiences a finale every bit as memorable as Cronenberg’s early provocations.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's still got it! The "Maggie" star stopped by "The Late Late Show with James Corden" on Monday, where the comedian and Arnold acted out all of Schwarzenegger's movies in just Six minutes. Check out the hilarious clip above to see them tackle everything from "The Terminator" to "The Expendables." We love how Schwarzenegger poked some fun at a few of his famous flicks, too ... admitting that he's never seen "The Expendables" 1, 2, or 3. There were also a few memorable moments when the hilarious duo spoofed "Batman & Robin," "Twins" and "True Lies." Corden even gave the 67-year-old one ridiculous lap dance while he pretended to be Jamie Lee Curtis in the 1994 action flick. Which skit was your favorite? Everyone and everything loves Tom Hanks, including the Internet. Scratch that, especially the Internet. The delightful, Oscar-winning actor has captured the attention and admiration of the web thanks to his iconic movie career, and his general good-guy demeanor. But what makes Tom Hanks such an especially great Internet star, is that he’s in on the fun. Doctor Who, Star Trek and more: what happened when sci-fi, horror & fantasy heroes have popped up on British daytime TV over the years…
Pre-YouTube, fandom was a hard-earned thing. It took research, dedication and enough patience to hover over the family video player’s ‘record’ button for an entire episode of TV-am in anticipation of six minutes with Sylvester McCoy. Six minutes in which the Seventh Doctor would be polled if he was a cat or dog person and then asked to taste a lemon roulade.
Scarcity bred desire in those days, so we took what we could get from our heroes of yore, even if that meant watching Hammer Horror legend Ingrid Pitt make a chocolate mousse, or the aforementioned McCoy attempt to answer fan questions above the hubbub of a Nottingham swimming pool complex. The collision of geek icons and UK daytime magazine shows was sometimes illuminating, sometimes excruciating,...

What We Do In The Shadows is a vampire mockumentary that has been making the festival rounds and I can’t wait for Daily Dead readers to see it for themselves. Those in the UK will be able to watch it on November 21st and we have a look at the first six minutes of the movie.

UK distributor Metrodome has released the first six minutes of What We Do in the Shadows. This is such a tease as the film is goddamn brilliant. Six minutes isn't enough to sate your appetite.
In the film – directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi – Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav are three vampires living together and trying to cope with modern life; from paying rent, doing housework, and trying to get into nightclubs, they’re perfectly normal – except for their immortality, fangs, and thirst for human blood.

There are more than 13.6 million people living in the Greater London area, and for many of these Londoners, the city is the best place in the country. But you know what? Modern London isn’t exactly what everyone thinks it should be. Anyone not from London thinks that it’s a weird combination of Eastenders and Sherlock, with a bit of The Bill thrown in for good measure.
London isn’t like that at all – it’s arguably the most metropolitan place in the country. People from all walks of life live and work there, bringing a vast and global dynamic to the city that everywhere else lacks. But the problem is that Londoners (for the most part) forget that the rest of the country isn’t necessarily like that. People from all walks of life live and work there, bringing a vast and global dynamic to the city that everywhere else lacks. But the problem is that Londoners (for the most part) forget that the rest of the country isn’t necessarily like that. They get surprised when they take a trip to the South Coast and suddenly realise they haven’t seen...

Real Madrid gave Schalke a footballing lesson in Germany this season as they blew away their opponents with a 5-0 victory, giving them a superb cushion to take back to the Bernabeu for the second-leg.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring after a well worked move before Gareth Bale doubled the Spaniards advantage with a brilliant individual effort. Ronaldo marked his return to the team with a goal six minutes after the restart, with Benzema getting his second of the night shortly afterwards.
Bale then secured a brace of his own with an easy finish, while Ronaldo scored his second late on. Klass Jan Huntelaar scored a consolation goal in stoppage time with a brilliantly executed volley.
Real Madrid opened the scoring in the twelfth minute with their first chance of the match. Gareth Bale linked up with Cristiano Ronaldo, who fed the ball through to Karim Benzema.

Moone Boy, “Godfellas”
Written by Chris O’Dowd & Nick Vincent Murphy
Directed by Declan Lowney
Aired July 10th, 2013 on Hulu
In a year full of fantastic imports, Moone Boy seems to have slipped through the cracks. This Irish series, which was picked up in July by Hulu, was created by Chris O’Dowd and stars youngster David Rawle as 12 year old Martin Moone and O’Dowd as his imaginary friend, Seán Murphy. The series follows Martin’s exploits growing up in a small Irish town in the late eighties and early nineties and is based on O’Dowd’s childhood experiences. “Godfellas”, the fifth of the first season’s six episodes, centers on Martin’s newfound desire to become an altar boy. He’s immediately taken with the idea upon seeing a group of them process in at his confirmation, “You Can’t Touch This” playing in his head as...

Manchester United’s excellent record away to Aston Villa continued as a first half Danny Welbeck double set the Premier League champions on their way to victory. Tom Cleverley was also on target after the break as David Moyes won his first league game in over a month.
Villa flew out of the traps with winger Marc Albrighton twice testing Red Devils number one David De Gea in the opening ten minutes. Christian Benteke’s touch then let him down when his teammate played him in.
Weathering this early flurry, United went ahead on the quarter hour when Rafael crossed from the right and Adnan Januzaj saw a free header come back off the post. Welbeck tapped in the rebound.
Less than two minutes later the Red Devils doubled their lead through the same player. Nathan Baker played Villa into trouble, Cleverley combined with Welbeck to find...

Eden Hazard stole the show as Chelsea remained in second place in the Premier League following an action packed game at The Stadium of Light which ended 4-3 to the visitors, but it was a mad two minutes for Phil Bardsley that will no doubt have the fans and Head Coach Gus Poyet talking.
Sunderland tried to take advantage of Chelsea’s poor start numerous times in the opening ten minutes, but it was the result of a Craig Gardner free kick that opened the scoring. The shot fired straight at the Chelsea wall, but Jack Colback timely found the USA international Altidore before firing home his first Premier League goal for Sunderland after 14 minutes.
However, the lead lasted only three minutes, as a poor defensive performance from The Black Cats following a Chelsea corner lead to the equaliser – despite plenty of chances to clear the ball away from danger,...

John Oliver, we salute you.
It must’ve been daunting, filling in as the host of The Daily Show while Jon Stewart took the summer off to direct a movie. After all, Stewart is a huge reason for his show’s success: He’s the Walter Cronkite of fake news, a wry reason to flip to Comedy Central at 11/10c four nights a week. Would his faithful audience accept a long-term sub?
Thankfully, the current-affairs gods smiled upon you, bestowing such laugh-rich news events as Prince George’s royal birth and the scandal surrounding New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner,...

A quick, belated review of "The Killing" season finale coming up just as soon as you interrupt my family bowling night... When I reviewed "Six Minutes," I noted that even if Veena Sud and company botched the ending again, I would ultimately feel that season 3 had been worth my time in a way the first two seasons mostly were not. The side stories about Holder's friendship with Bullet, and the lead-up to Ray Seward's execution, were both vastly more interesting character arcs than anything the show had done previously. Bex Taylor-Klaus was a tremendous discovery as Bullet (and made us...

Let’s say there’s a show you’re really starting to dig. It’s not your favorite show, not by a long shot, but you’ve been getting into it recently. And let’s say you’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last three episodes of the aforementioned series — you’ve described them as works of art and pure poetry. The season finale approaches. You’re almost as excited as when Game of Thrones premiered back in March. You believe you’re about to witness a TV miracle. Before you even watch the episode, your brain goes into overdrive as you think of ways to praise the magnificent acting and brilliant dialogue in your review. Let’s say you watch the episode, and… “Meh.”
That’s right. “Meh.” It’s not “Meh, this is a subpar show anyway.” This is more like “Meh, after Try, Reckoning and Six Minutes, I sorta expected something majestic.

This was it. That final play that would either seal the deal for The Killing as a season worthy of its return... or collapse like a cardboard box under all the pressure of trying to close the lid on such a solid set of episodes.
Wonderfully, "From Up Here; The Road to Hamelin" delivered not only the actual identity of the killer, but- through a riveting two hours - the right dose of humor, some solid surprises, a tragic twist and a final shocking gun shot that closed the case of "The Pied Piper," yet left the door wide open for Linden and Holder's journey to continue.
I'm glad all of the core characters had their stories pretty much wrapped up before hitting that final course of focus on the killer.
Really, the end result of Seward's death in "Six Minutes" and ultimately the arrest and probable conviction of Joe Mills...

In a bold move that shocked The Killing’s fans, showrunner Veena Sud wrote the execution of strangely sympathetic death row inmate Ray Seward into last night’s penultimate episode, “Six Minutes.” Taking place three years after Detective Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) was instrumental in convicting Seward, the Seattle police officer now believed she had the wrong man. Between fascinating conversations, they both hurtled through a taut 12 hours, trying to secure a stay of execution for Seward — even as unexpected evidence caused Linden to doubt her instincts seemingly by the minute.

Six Minutes focuses on Linden’s last attempt to save Ray Seward from death by hanging. It was painfully difficult for me to watch — Peter Sarsgaard plays the role with intensity and conviction, and has endeared The Killing fans throughout season 3. As Seward’s popularity grew, so did concern over his fate. I’d previously (half-jokingly) suggested that he deserved his own spin-off show, but as I watched the episode, my views on the matter were drastically altered.
As it turns out, Seward’s death was inevitable, and necessary. The Killing‘s a bittersweet show (several baddies walked away unpunished last season), but let’s face it — these last few episodes continuously toyed with our emotions and feelings towards each and every character. Bullet and Seward had become central characters whose screen-time was only topped by Linden and Holder. We hoped the former would ultimately find and save Kallie Leeds,...

It's easy to enjoy Joel Kinnaman portray Holder with his cool precision, whether he's letting Linden know he's not going to try and kiss her again... angrily wasting beer cans... or helping another little man out. Time and time again, whether he dominates an episode or appears for a few scenes, the hoodie-wearing character is one of the biggest draws that makes The Killing stand out.
And yet, while the serial chiller was more background in "Six Minutes," Peter Sarsgaard and Mireille Enos got to lay out a smorgasbord of emotion that was captivating down to the final shot.
A good portion of the episode was a lot like a volleyball match: a back and forth between the two characters on opposite sides of the glass. Seward killed his wife. Seward didn't kill his wife. There will be a stay of execution. There won't be a stay of execution. Linden...

The clock ran out for death row inmate Ray Seward on tonight's standout episode of AMC's "The Killing," and the devastating storyline provided memorable showcases for Peter Sarsgaard and Mireille Enos.
More than that, "Six Minutes," was a solid example of the once much-maligned show's season-long transformation into a tighter, sturdier and more effective crime and character drama. While AMC has yet to announce a formal decision about whether or not "The Killing" will return for Season 4, the series' creative upswing is quietly making its case for renewal.
We don't yet know if Seward was guilty of murdering his wife -- the crime he was executed for -- but logic and narrative momentum suggest he wasn't. And yet there's no question he was a criminal capable of severe brutality and terrible acts. No attempt was made to soft-pedal these aspects of his character and the overall arc was all the stronger for it.
