Fantastic series and finale
Eb0431 March 2024
This series has just completely exceeded my expectations in every way possible. The episode as a whole if anything else I would give a 9 to but It's the finale and the ending of the episode had me in tears. Once again Andrew Lincoln knocks it out of the park with his performance. I wonder if the walking dead never happened how many good movies or other tv shows he would have been involved in because he is just that good of an actor. All the flashbacks of certain moments of the series were awesome and makes me want to rewatch the original series again for the 3rd time. I'm sad it's over but the story of the ones who live was perfectly paced and writing that I can only hope for a season 2 that matches this one or no other ones at all. Thanks for making this universe Robert Kirkman and whoever else was involved it has brought me so much happiness!

A satisfying end to this segment
chiichanny31 March 2024
I have loved every episode to The Ones who Live and i wish it never ended!

I think some expected too much for the finale, i don't think there was much more they could have done with the time given to flesh out other parts of the CRM, but we also have to remember that this series wasn't about the CRM, it was about Rick and Michonne and a conclusion to that segment of their overall story and with that in mind, I am extremely happy with what we got and how they delivered it, just because this part has ended, doesn't mean we wont get more with the other spin off to fill in that other part we wanted!

If you are a TWD fan and love Rick and Michonne, then you will love this whole series!

Everything I wanted to see played-out!!
MasonB-L31 March 2024
It had everything you'd want to see since Rick flew away in that helicopter in season 9. Not sure what people were expecting to give negative reviews. You cannot put everything in there to complete their story, you have to leave opportunity for a potential future story.

Out of all the recent spin-offs, this was the 1 they absolutely needed to nail and they did. Awesome series - maybe the trick is to have the stars be as involved as Andrew and Danai were. They are also fans and the most invested. Now we just need to see a reunion for Rick and Daryl on screen!!

That's 3 out of 3 new spin-offs scoring above 7/10. As much as I crave more than 6 episodes for each, less seems to prove to be more.

Thoughts on the Finale
rxckne1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The Ones Who Live didn't waist any time right away and kicked things off with a very strong first half. The immediate reuniting of Michonne and Rick wasn't something I expected, but I'd say was the right decision. Episode 4 was a huge accomplishment in writing from Danai Gurira in my opinion, considering it was a mostly dialogue heavy episode that carried the weight of so many emotions from the two. But I hate to say in hindsight, it wasn't a great decision to flesh out episodes 4 & 5 in the manner they did considering how rushed this finale was.

This finale in my opinion was a great closure moment for the fans of The Walking Dead who waited years to see this moment, and the moment itself isn't something people should take for granted considering every hurdle that happened to make it to this point on and off screen. But as a diehard fan of this universe, I can't help but feel that this process was not treated with much care at all in terms of the most important aspect of what this show should've been. And that was the journey. The show goes from raising the stakes completely with the reveal from Beale in the briefing to Rick reuniting with his kids around 30 minutes later.

The CRM was known as the most dangerous threat to this universe and had everything at the palm of their hand. They seemed terrifying and trying to tap around them would be extremely difficult. But in the end it came down to killing Jadis and Beale, and one explosion for Rick and Michonne to get the best of the CRM? It just seems like a huge cliche especially after TWD made the Commonwealth feel so small and illogical in the final season of the main show.

Considering this was supposed to be a trilogy of movies. I didn't hate the idea of putting this story into an episodic format because I thought time would be on their side, but it turns out it made everything far more rushed. I don't understand why TWD just HAD to make this 6 episodes when this very clearly could've used far more. If budget was an issue why couldn't they just make very long movie like episodes, split them, and release the other 3 with a fresh budget next year?? Or better yet do 4-5 episodes each to make sure nothing feels forced and rushed, but why this? Hell we've waited this long already, what's another year if it means we get a conclusion that feels earned? Idk man, I want to love this but I can't help but feel they dropped the ball.

I'm still of the mindset that there might be a final act whether it's season 12 or a new TWD show that wraps up the stories of the other characters, and eventually get the reunion of Rick and Daryl as well as other characters. But if that's the plan, I do not understand why they did the Rick / Judith and RJ reveal so soon in this episode. Not trying to make assumptions but if I had to guess it seems like they wanted to put that moment in the end here just in case Andrew and Danai are done with the universe. And if they aren't and they do return, I don't get why the show had to be this impatient with a story that should've been treated with much more care than this. Even though I've been waiting for this moment for nearly 6 years, I'm really sad to say I wasn't a fan of this finale. But I'm happy for TWD fans that were waiting for this moment and are satisfied with the conclusion.

Emotionally Satisfying
CulvertonSmith31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I could critique the speed at which this finale rushes to the finish line, but the emotional poignancy of seeing these two characters work alongside one another is such a beautiful thing to watch. The reunion of Rick with Judith is so wonderful, and ending the show with this family wholly together for the first time is a stellar choice.

On the whole I had a blast with The Ones Who Live, and really think it lived up to the legacies of both Rick and Michonne. I think this finale was a tad bumpy in its narrative, and a couple of moments were executed in a rather clunky fashion-but that is more than made up for by the satisfaction of seeing characters that we've been following for about a decade finally be delivered an emotionally satisfying ending. A beautiful story of love, and one I'm glad I got to see.

A perfect way to end one of the greatest miniseries (stuff and thangs included)
krishnadevdonti31 March 2024
Episode 6 was such a beautiful way to wrap things up , sure there are those usual plot and loopholes but despite all that Episode 6 is the kinda stuff and thangs I want to watch , and the writers gave me the exact stuff and thangs I wanted , so thank you showrunners. Thank you Andy , Danai , Pollyanna, And everyone else involved in the making of one of the greatest miniseries ever made , this show is AMC'S 4th or 5th magnum opus, TOWL revived cable tv , I could go on for hours praising the writing and stuff and thangs. But seriously, this was one of the best episodes I've seen in a long time, so thank you again.

69/5 100.

Ps. This is my letterboxd review Deputy_Mankey.

Rushed but grand
bart_blokhuis31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The whole episode I was tensed up waiting for something awful to happen to the characters we love! But it didn't, thankfully. The Echelon briefing was a great part of the story and did show the evil side of the Civic Republic military. Beale's death was a bit rushed and quick, and I wish we got to see more of him as some kind of "main" villain he ended up being. The bombing, and death of Thorne felt rushed and the plot armor of Rick, Michonne and Thorne was reminiscent of Fear the Walking Dead. How did Thorne survive that bombing? Not sure how much time they could have spent on explaining how the CRM was reformed. I understand it feels rushed, but no clue how they could have spent more time on this. I think it was fine. The reunion made my cry like never before in The Walking Dead. It was incredibly moving.

The show was amazing, and I wish we had gotten more episode to make this a bit more of a conclusive story. Gonna miss the Grimes!

The best episode of Univers Twd !
This episode was by far the best episode of all of the walking dead !

Great excitement, great conclusion, and Rick was amazing It appeared much more than just a 6-episode mini-series and was more captivating and thrilling than the final seasons of the original series.

This episode delivers all the expectations you have from it and you will enjoy watching it in the best possible way! Rick is the same Rick Grimes we saw in season 5 of the original series, and this was the best version of Rick that we were waiting to see!

Overall, there isn't much to criticize about this mini-series, it turned out to be much more than just a mini-series!

FAVORITE EPIC LOVE STORY
renadjjj31 March 2024
The Ones Who Live is totally a masterpiece, i loved every single episode, and my favourite one is still episode (4) danai and andy did a great job, To be honest i don't even want another season at this point, rick and michonne story is complete, they got the end they deserve. Incredible work.

This spin-off alone is way better then twd last two seasons. But I got to say last two episode is not at the same level as the rest, still a 10

I also hope danai gurira get to write in more movies and shows in the future, and we may see her write something for Andrew. Such in incredible actors, love them both.

AN INCREDIBLE END TO RICK'S STORY
connorgallagher-2710531 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The series finale did seem rushed; Beale being killed, CRM plan being stopped and civilians finding out what CRM do - I think it would have been better for them to stop the CRMs plan & stop Beale in S2 but I get Andrew and Danai wanted a good ending for their characters. It was a shame about Thorne as I thought she would have helped Rick & Michonne but it wasn't meant to be :( The final 5 mins were incredible and beautiful to watch, Rick back with his family after 8 long years.

I can only thank Andy and Danai for an incredible limited series and thank them for their portrayals, their characters will go down in TV history! Overall, I loved this spin-off and I'll definitely rewatch it in the future.

A fitting end...
nomad0131 March 2024
The negative reviews for this entire series are kind of comical. Is it perfect? No. Was the original series perfect? No.

The last episode, as expected, feels rushed. By the end of episode 4 I knew they'd have way too much to fit in and a few things happen that feel a bit too convenient but it feels like an abridged story rather than a fake-out that we got repeatedly in Fear The Walking Dead.

So, that aside, it feels like we finally have the answers we needed and some kind of proper closure for the franchise. It's been great to see some fantastic performances from Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira alongside a mostly strong supporting cast.

Disappointment
TheWalkingUnknown31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Disappointment. Chaotic, weakest episode, stupid deaths, bad reunion, biggest plot armor of all episodes, wasted potential, cheesy lines, we jumped from good twd script to ftwd level. Aside from the fact that I missed not even a whole extra season, but at least an extra episode in CRM, because the first three episodes gave it a first act, but the fourth and fifth episodes stopped everything and the poor last episode had to quickly mill the second act and still finish the whole third. After the first four episodes, the finale promised to be brilliant, then the fifth episode pretended that this series had a minimum of seven episodes, and the sixth was a foregone conclusion. And then there's the playing on emotions with flashbacks.... I simultaneously know and don't know what happened.

Such a huge waste of potential
wesleyreid-288531 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This show had everything right except for its pacing at times, and the shows very end. The whole time a big showdown was being teased, and basically everyone was expecting a second season and all the spinoffs connecting to fight off the "big bad CRM".

It felt rushed and completely unbelievable. AMC spent YEARS building up the CRM as an almost unbeatable community and a huge threat.

But the CRM, which is built on paranoia, gets blown up because no one is guarding the explosives? And that's it?? It doesn't make any sense.

And how did Rick and Michonne survive? A blanket and water don't save you from an explosion. Plus, all of the CRM fighters instantly turned into walkers?

Worst episode in years, such a complete letdown for all of the fans and a ton of wasted potential. Also, RJ's acting is terrible.

Scott Gimple should have been fired a long time ago
wrka-195-29992831 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
My contempt for Scott Gimple's work is justified and here is why.

Before I must say, the best thing about the spinoff was the performances of Andrew Lincoln and Danai G. And that's it.

Gimple had YEARS to write this "epic" story (according to him) and many fans waited years (included me) to see Rick's return, so this guy has no excuse.

This episode is patetically sad bc it reminds me of any filling episode of Fear The Walking Dead, but it was even worse, since Gimple decided to end the greatest threat the Walking Dead universe has ever known, the CRM, IN 45 MINUTES OR LESS . I always doubted Gimple's skill writting and as showrunner and Im not wrong, this guy has no idea what to do with this franchise, I feel sorry for the fans who wasted their time watching World Beyond, years of CRM build up for nothing, so why make a spinoff of the CRM?, The answer is simple, Gimple just improvises, that's why temporal time is a disaster too.

This episode is so rush that in each pacing there is an issues trying to follow the situation, not to mention unrealistic scenes and cheesy dialogue, which reminded me of the final episode of the main series and in terms of development it's the same, 1. Prepare the attack. 2. a big explosion. 3. the enemy is defeated 4. A happy ending.

The ending was for the fans, Rick's reunion with his children was what many fans expected, but even that scene was cheesy and poorly executed bc assuming they arrived in the Commonwealth, where are the rest of the characters? I mean Carol, Ezekiel, Gabriel, etc. And about Maggie and Negan, years have passed, Rick is not mentioned in their spinoff, does Maggie know? She should.

Once again the fans are left full of unanswered questions, full of loose ends, fans theorizing about it like morons, I think that after this a lot of people will wake up and realize that this franchise isn't going anywhere and there will be no season 2 either.

Scott Gimple continues improvising and thinking about how to end this nonsense, maybe AMC will lose patience like me and they just from one day to the next they cancel everything.

My last thought

The best era of TWD was Mazzara and Darabont, like someone said on twitter.

I love TWD but I hate what it has become.

Rick deserved a better story.

1/10, If I could have given it a zero rating I would have done so.

Don't care what anyone says, the ending was perfect
mcsharpe-1351531 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen a lot of mixed reviews, some saying this was a perfect ending while others feeling it was rushed and had poor writing. While I agree from a viewers perspective it can seem that way, show wise and how long Beale and the CRM have been around canonically, it's not that unrealistic for how it all went down. It's also not like the CRM is completely gone, just Beale and most of the bad people. Now with that ending, wow. One of the most wholesome moving scenes in all of the walking dead. I don't normally cry at any shows or movies but the reunion was just done so beautifully. This show as a whole was beautifully done, 10/10.

Fitting Finale to the Finest Spinoff in the TWD Universe
haddonfieldmech1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I love TWD. I stuck with it even through its lowest moments yet I still found enough to love about it. Unfortunately, despite my excitement and intrigue surrounding "Dead City" and "Daryl Dixon", many aspects of those shows let me down. Both left off on cliffhangers that sort of ruined good-to-great runs, in my head. I was worried a little bit following last week's episode, but 'The Last Time' was fantastic. Sure, there are issues, like how Rick and Michonne were able to get into the CRM so easily, how no guards stumbled across Rick shattering a guys' head in the hallway, why Rick left his fake hand in Jadis' room, and how Rick survived a close range grenade explosion, but in many ways that is just nitpicking. It is a TV show and there are bound to be unrealistic aspects.

This was incredibly satisfying in every regard, and I would be fine if they didn't do a second season. The action scenes were very well done, and their presence does add flair to an episode that could very easily have been exposition (my issue with the Dead City finale). I wish that the CRM could continue to be a threat, if they are to continue this story, but it does wrap everything up. And that's really what I needed this episode to do. It needed to complete a story, and this season feels like one story with a beginning, middle, and end, with the way this episode was handled.

It was great to see Judith and RJ again, and even though we didn't see Rick's return to Alexandria, it was enough (in my head) to see his reunion with his son and daughter.

Just a word for folks who read this, don't give that much attention to those who are giving 1 and 2 star ratings just because they are mad that Glenn died back in 2016. And also don't make decisions based off of the 10 star ratings either. Just go in with an open mind and make the descision for yourself. I have been growing skeptical recently, and this proved me wrong. That's the best thing I could say about anything.

It felt like a movie
raulungurean31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The final episode of The Walking Dead is clearly one of the best episodes of the show and one of the best in the entire Walking Dead universe.

This last episode really felt like a movie. The soundtrack, the special effects, the tension within each scene, the intense action, the sequence of events, the dialogue and the acting, which was perfect from every actor, made every minute of this episode amazing to me. Every scene was superbly crafted in terms of cinematography and script, capturing my attention from the beginning of the episode.

In my view, this final episode is an excellent conclusion to the two characters, Rick and Michonne, who have become an unbeatable couple in this episode and this show. It seems that love never dies as long as you believe and fight for it. They certainly proved that. The chemistry between them throughout this episode and series is remarkable. The reunion between Rick and his children was full of excitement and joy and I am grateful to finally see this long awaited moment. I really want Rick to be reunited with the other characters as well and I hope this moment will happen in the future. The story of the two is clearly not over and there is still room to add.

It was definitely worth waiting so long for such beautiful moments provided by Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira and the rest of the team who helped make this wonderful spin-off and created a show that will surely remain in the hearts of all fans of this universe. I can't wait to see what this vast universe has in store for us next and I can say that I am confident that we are in for some very brilliant and also memorable events!!

I'll end my review by simply saying: KUDOS to the entire team!!

A perfect ending.
faygoulet-391951 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like I just watched one of the greatest episodes of television in history because we got the perfect ending. I was really hoping they would give us the ending that they did I am so happy. I sobbed so hard my neighbors probably heard me. I do hope for a second season but if we don't get one. That's a perfectly fine ending for the world of Rick Grimes & Michonne. I feel like I just watched a distant family reunited. I've watched this show for so long I feel so involved with these characters. The season per say did feel a bit short but I think they made up for it with this last episode. I really hope we see more of these characters though.

The Sword That Kills
tristan_1931 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
What an explosive episode ! Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira come in swinging. Beale gives us the Echelon Briefing, which provides long awaited reveals and payoffs. The whole scene was extremely tense and well done. The explosion, and how Rick and Michonne brought it together was a marvel to behold. I love the little flashbacks scenes we got, and even the camera pulling out over the little trailer where Rick and Michonne stood, like they did before in the pilot and other episodes like Mercy, where Negan and Gabe were trapped inside. Cool little throwbacks. For something years in the making, the episode, and the series as a whole, delivered all the thrills and the solid writing we'd come to expect. And of course, Rick reuniting with Judith was the best thing ever. Don't think otherwise, wow.

A Lot of Confusion helmed by a satisfying Conclusion
nooapatjas31 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think this episode was written or directed amazingly well.

The Briefing was... disappointing. You're led to believe it's this massive life-changing thing but then it's just... it's just a thing. The whole dialogue between Rick and the general is generally just... decent. It's not bad or terrible, nor great or amazing. Good, maybe? More like... ehh, decent. It doesn't blow you up with surprise nor does it tear you down with dread. It's just more of what you might've expected.

Thorn's last scene... eh. She believed in what she believed. Rick and Michonne believed in what they did. Big hollers for the ones who believe in their opinions. Nothing particularly satisfying about the conclusion to her character.

That scene at the end though? Richonne with their kids? That bumps this episode up from a seven to an eight.

Ultimately, this story would be better off if it had better running. TWD (as this on-going universe that it is) could go so, -so- far... if its shows were better ran.

A solid 8/10 of what could've easily been an 11/10 with a great showrunner.

Decent, but poor ending.
jonaldo-9488631 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The episode includes alot of action with zombies which I think was great. Zombies was almost not an issue for the last seasons of twd.

I think most of the acting was decent except for the horrible reunion at the end. The acting of ricks kid is just depressing really. Andrew Lincolns acting and danas was incredible.

The episode was rushed imo. I get why they couldn't hire all the actors and actresses for the reunion, but i think most of the reasons why we wanted to watch it to the end was to see how the reunion with Rick and Daryl ,and Rick and Negan was.

It was worth the watch and seeing rick going at it again was awesome. I wish this was ranked accurate cus this episode is really not a 9.4/9.3 which it is atm.

Incredible
marcborkowski1 April 2024
This was perfect from beginning to end. From the writing to the cinematography to the acting. It wasn't rushed. Seeing Rick and Michonne getting the (potential) ending they deserve was heartwarming although I could be wrong seeing that there are other spin offs we could see them again.

I do hope I'm wrong because if they do have a second season as good as this one I wouldn't complain. I'm happy I started watching this again. If you jumped ship like me during seasons 7-8 that makes sense because they were horrid but to be honest the last three seasons of the original and the 3 latest spin offs are incredible.

I'm disappointed a bit kinda so rushed
marvin6z6z6z4 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Wait a minute, instead of dealing with those time-consuming and annoying makeshift DIY grenades one by one with turned General, why didn't they use military resources of produced C4? Wasn't there CRM's homemade C4 or Claymore mines? I'm pretty sure they had those, right? I mean, if he could fly a helicopter, why not load it with missiles to a Little Bird for bombing? And surviving that corrosive gas and grenade explosion with just a tent and water and normal gears? Remember those herders who are surfing died from the gas before? Their eyes and skin were severely damaged, right? Even if we overlook these plot holes, the final plan they've been passionately discussing, especially characters like Anne and Thorne / General with their unique personalities and convincing acting, ended up being just Anne's rehearsed lines? Wasn't it too easy and simple? I wish Rick had struggled more before making a decision

and I wanted some humor in the elevator scene. It's like they abruptly ended the grand secret final operation that had been built up to that point, with General being assassinated by a sword. It's unbelievable.

Keeping Negan alive and then killing Thorne feels a bit off to me. And Thorne the Latin girl dying in the same way, being stabbed by Michonne and then saying, 'I hope you guys are right. I was totally wrong.' giving her gas mask away and been eaten by zombie and also suffered gas to died alone? That's extremely painful! In a way, I respect her. Anyone who rebels even slightly against Rick's family ideals dies. Yeah, it's survival of the fittest, as the title suggests. This is the Freedom. It feels like a typical American movie, too cliché and a bit disappointing. In the end, both Rick's and Thorn or General's justice seem warped, don't they? Overall, the ending felt so rushed. The scene where they finally reunite the truly grown-up children was good one, but only the children were shown, and it focused more on Rick's abandonment at first than on Michonne. And It was too short and could have been more touching. His daughter, though, surprisingly she had grown so fast that makes me feel time flies...

So, did they fast forward a bit too much to the extinction of all humanity? They have unlimited resources in their utopia now, accepting psychopaths and feral humans as they please or not. If your family turns into zombies, hide them in the barn or basement until use them for mad scientist of experiments from Omaha or just wait it for science advances. They might be saved or not. At least until those zombies escape and it becomes a repeat of endless zombie apocalypse era.

I can't wait for Daryl's continuation! Bring him back to France! Why not to stay in the France! He's definitely continuing on a solo wandering trip! Oh, I see the next season now. Daryl returns with souvenirs for the Rick family, and now they all go on a raid to France! Interfering in the name of justice, just like some evil army! The Rick family is truly the strongest in the universe and deserves to be loved under the so many dead one. I hope they live longer.

Ruined it.
SenkardE1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The series started with full of potential and suspense, but the last two episodes were so bad, that it ruined it.

We finally got to hear about the purpose of this mysterious almighty military force through this mysterious Echelon Briefing that came up every episode. What was it? A nonsensical BS: What, people on earth have 14 years left, they kill everyone else other than them, so they live longer? Is that it, really? What were all the experiments for then? All the build-up for CRM have come to nothing.

Both Jadis and Thorne were like tiny obstacles in front of Rick and Michonne who in the end realise that they were wrong, but fought till the last second for no reason, so they deserved to die, but in a tragic way? We as the audience always knew that our team won't be hurt, but their encounters with these minor level end bosses were turly ineffectual. Baele too wasn't really interesting imo. Since the episode was rushed and he wasn't really much present in other episodes, we couldn't invest in Terry O'Quinn's character enough to care about him.

The action scene, where our power couple wires all the bombs in that big tent where all the gas bombs are stored which has no guards to protect it, was a complete disaster. Their miraculous escape in the aftermath was worse. What on earth has saved them so that everyone else who were located far, far away from the explosion were somehow dead but not them? Also, why are the zombies so weak? They have just turned, that many walkers should have pulled Rick down and shred him into pieces in seconds.

And finally the reunion. I think eveyone was waiting for it, but it wasn't emotional at all. The two kids were like spawned in the middle of nowhere and reunited with their parents without sheding a single tear. Actors were like forced to it. It was very odd.
