A Special Celebration Episode for the Fans
serbian_00711 November 2014
I'm not a big fan of musicals, and yet I really enjoyed the 200th episode.

Fan Fiction is not simply a love letter to all the fans, but a marriage celebration. As a fan, I felt like this episode sealed my marriage to Supernatural with a kiss. You know how at weddings there is usually a picture slide-show that reveals the progress of a couple's relationship over time from childhood to adulthood, with romantic music playing in the background? This episode felt like exactly that; it is a slide show of moving pictures (scenes) set to heartfelt and emotional tunes (the musical). I felt like I was the groom waiting for Supernatural, the bride, in all her majestic beauty as she walks down the isle, reaches out her hand, and encourages me as we both prepare to say "I do." But before we tie the knot, she reminds me of all the journeys we've shared and the obstacles we've overcome over the last 10 years, the good times and the not so good times, and the outright hilarious moments that we'll treasure for a lifetime. We're now officially one. There's no going back. This is it, Supernatural family, we've made it, so let's celebrate our marriage with a honeymoon. Never give up on the show; season 10 has just begun.

If we pay real close attention, the episode listens to the fans and gives us what we want. The writers do a great job giving a shout out to all the funny things and taboo topics about the characters that we like to joke about on social media, nudge nudge hint hint, and spoofing the criticisms of the show we sometimes tend to make. Such references make this episode absolutely hilarious, that is, if you have been following the show for a while and get these hints.

A risky episode, but very well done. The funny moments in the episode will soon become classic. I've seen every episode of the series and this one easily ranks in the top 5 for creativity. I imagine it will get positive reviews from loyal fans, while possibly negative reviews from casual observers who just won't get "the feels", if you know what I mean. 10 out of 10.

Since S9 it has been rough, i haven't seen a 10/10 since S8, but this, this is beyond. I love this show so freaking much and what an amazing episode. The meta eps are the best and the in jokes.

This is what Supernatural is all about
vlad-ninov12 December 2014
Episodes like this just make you love Supernatural even more, fun to watch little bit drama, action, perspective. In just one episode to be able to show all this, it is amazing, and the end ... the end was just EPIC.I just can not believe it's been 10 years already and it just keeps going, better and better. I want this show to continue as long as possible, because it is a show of a generation, and most of all loyal fans. Things like that are hard to accomplish these days, but it seems that Eric Kripke knows what he is doing, so thank you for creating this show.

Well done, just well done !

So ,here we are 10 years and this is the 200th EPICsode. This episode from the beginning really funny. You cant stop laughing. The girls portraying the characters of supernatural, maybe if there were some boys,i don't know.In the middle-end,kinda found it a little girly. The writers i think thanked the fan-girls more than the boys.Well i guess the girls are more in number. But in the end the shocking return of that person(NO SPOILERS) wow.But loved this episode. And very happy they reached 200 episodes.Would love to see more of supernatural. And thanks to the supernatural crew for an awesome 10 years.at last the 200th episode was really amazing.Dean,Sam,Jensen,Jared and all of u,THANK YOU!!!

I don't normally write reviews but this was the greatest episode I have ever seen!

So I stopped watching supernatural after season 5 because to me that was a fitting end for the series. But lately I've been trying to finish watching the rest of the seasons and this episode was by far the funniest episode I had ever seen. This is never leaving my DVR!

As a fan of Supernatural and a mother, I want to thank the writers, directors, cast, and everyone involved in the making of this episode. This episode has not only helped to bridge the generation gap between children and parents but it shows our children that their opinions and creativity (no matter how we feel about their ideas) matter. My teenage daughter and her friends, as well as myself, loved the episode. I loved seeing the reactions of Sam and Dean as they tried to understand what was going on. It is like a parent trying to understand their teenage daughter at the same time being supportive and proud even if they do not agree with their ideas. I enjoyed watching this episode with her and seeing her reaction to it. She thinks it was.... "a thing of beauty! #subtext" We will continue to watch Supernatural and look forward to many more of these special episodes.

A gem and nothing less
r-i-p_33324 January 2019
This is one of the few times I write a review on here so let me start. This episode was and always will be beautifully epic. Everything about this episode felt so right for a show like Supernatural. The acting was on point, dialogue, action and even the side characters were great. In a way, this episode felt like a thank you note from the writers but more so, this episode reminds us all why we love it so much. Bringing back little things from the earlier seasons like the amunet necklace or the usage of the "Carry On My Wayward Son" song was beautiful. This episode also shows that the writers are self-aware of all the "ridiculousness" that they put into this show but more importantly, they address the fans of the show. Dean riding off into the sunset with his younger brother in the Impala, with the amunet hanging off the rear mirror... a beautiful episode and nothing short of perfect.

1 of the best episodes
evans-j3410 May 2021
I usually hate musicals, but this one isnt over the top with none stop songs, theres only a couple and the songs performed are actually really beautiful the signings lovely. The whole episode I find hilarious Dean's reactions on finding a alternate play about them and their characters are so funny, but also heartwarming as he slowly invests in the cast and the vision. Definitely in my top 5 of favourite episodes out the entire show.

It's just a gem. A gift. So many Easter Eggs, so much fun. Loved every second of it. That young director did a hell of a job. She's a pretty decent actress.

And since I heave'nt read about the cover in here: FFS, this was beautiful! I had tears in my eyes and goosebumps everywhere

For every Supernatural fan that has stuck with this show since the beginning
inserrtnamehere20 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
With this team of writers, directors, actors, editors etc., and with previous episodes from Supernatural being fantastic, naturally the bar is set very high for the special 200th episode, and by golly this episode met those expectations. From the very beginning of the episode, it was tailored towards fans of Supernatural who were in tears as the "Then" recap of the episode simply included a minimalistic shot of Eric Kripke typing up the cover page of the pilot episode. From the subtle reference of Dean closing the trunk of the car and saying "We've got work to do" (similar to when Sam said that phrase at the end of the pilot) to the epic rendition of Carry On Wayward Son, Supernatural fans are on the edge of their seat with their mouths hanging open wondering what fantastic scene Supernatural holds next in store for them. Cherry on top: Carver Edlund/Chuck himself showing up and giving his well deserved stamp of approval to this Supernatural musical tribute, not only relaying to fans that he did not die in Swan Song, but also bringing upon the perfect closure to the end of the 200th episode that kicked fans right in heart.

My own wishful thinking: that Sam and Dean's next adventure will take them to rescuing Adam from the cage where Lucifer and Michael reside because the poor guy has been stuck down their for too long.

You've done it again Supernatural. You've caused us fans to take a moment of silence to truly appreciate how completely and totally awesome this show is as a close up of Sam and Dean's brooding faces (with Carry On Wayward Son playing naturally) showed the depth of how much energy, effort, fan support, and time (10 YEARS OH MY GOSH) were put into this series to make it the truly spectacular show it is today. I cannot wait for the next episode of Supernatural where the entire cast and crew decides to do something totally out of their element that will, once again, cause fans to tear up from beginning to end.

Today I have watched S13E16 (Scoobynatural), but still remember how this episode gave me the chills.

Supernatural even after 13 seasons is one of the best show there is.

Warning: Spoilers
the episode wasn't the best ever, but i still enjoyed it... i don't like the constant innuendos of deanslashsam fan stories, i mean give poor dean a rest..but it had some laughs, some nice supporting characters... and i always liked chuck, i hope that was not the last we saw of him... but the big point to me, a fan since episode 1, was the final scene. carry on my wayward son, which accompanied us for 10 years and a (ok, female but) poor, dead bobby brought me, a 32 year old man to tears.

no matter what some people say, the show still has it.

thanks for 200 episodes. i hope there are 200 more.

Better than it seemed - has its issues
robin-587-41950617 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I need to admit, when I watched the first previews of the episode, I thought this would be the most awful thing to watch - ever. While I was watching the episode, I started to enjoy it but in my opinion the episode had its flaws.

I know how many people loved it, but I found it annoying when they were trying to put a fandom thing/ line / joke in every single line. I love references but at some point it started to annoy me because they were just trying too hard. Plus, I felt they left the "old" fandom identity out too much, but I'll come back to that in a sec.

Also, I thought they put way too much focus on the shipping section. I know, many fans are rather focused on this, but I found this to be a big negative aspect. A reference? OK. But imo, it was too much when Sam started discussing ship names...

So, this episode was supposed to be a love letter to the fans, but I think it's more like a letter to a specific group of fans - the younger, mostly female, girls on tumblr, who have kind of become a big "force" in the fandom. I am not a part of that, so all the presents to them (or the focus in general, like making the whole musical cast highschool girls) didn't really work for me.

The monster of the week was very weak. She even did the evil-monologue-thing and didn't have anything that stood out. Not more than a plot device.

To sum it up, this episode was watchable and a bit better than average, but the best episode ever? Imo, never. Meta episodes like The French Mistake handled it much better and we had much better "silly" episodes as well (my favorite: Changing Channels). Supernatural also has brilliant darker episodes, too. So I wouldn't ever count this episode into the top list. It just didn't have in it that got to me.

Oh, before I forgot, I liked how they named their own Post-Kripke-plots worst fanfic ever. ;) But I sure hope the brothers won't ignore their brother Adam's fate in hell - you know, being for like how many hundreds of years down there in tortue? I though Sam would connect to that, since he spent only a fraction of time down there and look how it affected him. I think it's totally OOC for them to ignore that, but that's not my main issue with the ep.

6 out of 10 seems like a fair rating to me.

PS. Please don't mind my writing mistakes, English is not my mother tongue.

Very good acting with good singing from these young people
revba6 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm impressed and it fueled the show to continue in this new S10. This series indeed has a real following. How the writers put a plot baked into the play was a very good sense of storytelling of a fictional musical play with that element of a fantasy character that Sam & Dean had to identify in order to solve the disappearances.

Supernatural the musical!
mm-3918 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Supernatural the musical! I joke about this theme on the message board. I never thought the script writers would actually do it and pull the show off! Fan Fiction is a comical installment for season 10. There is the usual monster hunt mixed in with the movie Rushmoore. Dean must endure a female interpretation of the Sam and Dean books into a play/musical. The comical pretense is hilarious. Of course, Sam would like the play's interpretation of Sam and Dean and the other characters experiences through many of the stories the viewer has watched. The ending is so over the top, which creates pure comic bliss. Fan Fiction is original, satirical, and turns the series upside down, which performed like Dean's car. Of course, the acting and directing melded with the story perfectly. I give Fan Fiction an eight out of ten. Nice that Supernatural does not take the series too seriously.

Awesome

Warning: Spoilers
I love episodes when they deal with the Supernatural series. I'm also very happy that Chuck is still alive and kicking. This raised a few questions however. Is Chuck a prophet? Was Kevin a prophet? Can they do the same things? Could Chuck read the demon tablet? Is the demon tablet still even a thing? Who has it? Anyways, back to this episode. Dean's reactions to everything in this was what made the episode so great. I've also noticed that there are actually books of supernatural, and I wonder if there really are followings that talk a lot about the love between the boys... Weird. And that Caliope had it right, the music was pretty good in this. Not South Park good, but still, much better than I would have thought for this series.

A lot of tension broke in this episode, just what I was expecting, still want 1 thing.
adityabalodi-adu15 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The episode came just in the right time when all the fans were getting bored of the tension between the 2 brothers. A normal case with some old memories. The one thing I expect from this episode is that it plays a plot in a future episode in which Sam and Dean will save their younger brother and he will realize that they truly are family. I definitely think Chuck will have a role to play in the future, a significant role. I was wishing john Winchester would make a comeback but it was chuck instead. The series was getting too emotional between the 2 brothers and was becoming more a show for a 15 year old girl but this episode I hope is made for some comeback from the past characters which always excites the fans.

Binging Supernatural had to leave a review
blessedtag-997-89044118 June 2022
I didn't watch this show when it was out but I am bingeing it now. There have been several episodes that I really liked but none brought me to IMDb like this episode. I had to leave a rating and find a way to favorite it so that I could watch it again and again. I loved this episode! After reading other reviews oh, I found out that it is the 200th episode. It makes sense.

Hate to Love
drwhitten3 July 2019
I wanted to hate this show from the beginning. Musicals and Theater applied to the Supernatural genre seemed sachreligeous like Jesus Christ Superstar.

I wanted to apply the Dean flavor of macho, manly perspective because, quite frankly, that's how I am. But, like so much of this show, this episode had a way of balancing out the strong and sensitive sides. The masculine / feminine contrast and balance was artistically woven together and made me realize how the most compelling value of this show has always been the emotional tie to relationships.

All in all, there was a feeling of threat, concern, bravery, suspense, connection, togetherness, and success. It was demonstrated through both youth, adult, and the willingness of one to understand and empathize with the other, and in the end the episode made me feel, well, connected.

I would have to say that this is not one of those episodes to go back and rewatch (like some of the season finales); however, it is one that should not be missed based on the teenage drama concept that it pushes to the forefront. In the end, it will leave you appreciating the feelings it produced and posssibly make you recognize the need for diverse perspectives.

Great job by the up and coming actors and great support by the veterans that make the show worth a binge watch.

One Thing Really Bothered Me
thegalaxy8911 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Great episode, tremendously clever episode, and the supporting roles were perfect. I couldn't of asked for anything more. Well, actually, there's no cliff hanger here, this could have been the end of the series and I don't think it would have bothered any one, because it certainly didn't bother Sam or Dean that a certain some one is just left hanging and not a shred of concern is shown between either brother, which is weird because the certain some one left hanging is also their brother. I would have thought that would have been a good reminder that, hey, maybe they should do something about that kid, like, I don't know, try to save him? I can only hope that arch will appear in this season, otherwise, I would begin to question Sam and Dean's loyalty to family and their "perceived" moral obligation to save people. IF a plot with Adam is eventually revisited, I would be happy to give this episode a perfect rating. As for now, I remain wary of the next story arch that has yet to make itself visibly apparent.

I'm with "goodlookinmonkey"...
sunshineu223 March 2021
...I'm not the type to write episode reviews but, this one was so well done that I couldn't help taking a minute to note my admiration for this hilarious, tongue in cheek episode that had just the right amount of emo thrown in to make it a little uncomfortable and cringeworthy for Sam and especially Dean. If I loved Buffy's "Once More with Feeling" (S6 E7), which I did, I'd have to say this was a couple of leagues above it, with both the writing and the performances by Jensen and Jared being spot on!!

Well done!! *slow clap* Well done!!

Warning: Spoilers
My expectations for this episode were kinda low going in considering that I had just skipped past the last episode (s10e4) because of how boring it was but WOW. This episode exceeded my expectations. It has got to be the funniest supernatural episode ever. From the musical to sam and deans reactions, everything about this episode is priceless. Don't even get me started on the whole deancas ship name debate. Honestly I'm only 15 minutes into this episode but still I have to rate it a 9/10 because I have not laughed this hard at an episode in a while.

I have mixed feelings about what the show is trying to say about and to some of its fans
CubsandCulture23 September 2020
This episode is entertaining. The meta jokes are funny. And the songs are great. I think the cover of "Carry On My Wayward Son" is one of the most strangely moving scenes in the show's run. But I also cannot sake the feelings that the writers were being mean spirited and/or obtuse. They should have left well enough alone or been much more careful.

Anyone who follows Supernatural knows that slash fiction (erotic fan fiction) involving Sam-Dean, Dean-Cas (others) is both common among some fans AND also know that it is a huge point of conflict among fans and to some extent the creators-fans. I'm not going to re-hash the textual arguments here, especially around Dean. But this episode clearly acknowledges that the writers know of this sort of fan fiction existing. It is not the first time the show has made jokes about this dynamic. Basically anytime Carver Edlund or the Supernatural books come up there's a joke about. I wish the writers would leave this topic alone because at this point there is no solution to it that will not piss off someone.

This episode-it is meta, and it is the 200th episode-clearly is meant to be an olive branch of a sorts to these fans. You can see it by including the material generally and especially in the scene in which Dean says "You have your version and I have mine" to a fan fic writer. I think this is intended as a statement of inclusion or permission. Instead it comes off as a statement of power. I don't know what to make of this text and it annoys me greatly that the episode went *there* in a milestone episode.

Dean and Castiel are friends
trainatommaso29 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Episode that accentuates the mental deviation of Supernatural fans with all these "ships" between characters that have nothing to do with it. Not to mention how they broke up Demon Dean's storyline For this sort of episode that satisfies the rotten part of Supernatural, that is, the fanbase. I don't understand how Bloodlines got a lower rating than fan fiction, at least there aren't any horny little girls who want to see every Supernatural character in bed together. The ending with Chuck saved the episode slightly but as long as this TV series has little girls they don't distinguish Friendship with ship this show will not rest.
