About a year and a half ago, it was announced that Shawnee Smith of the Saw franchise had signed on to star in a horror movie called The Skulleton. That film is now ready to make its way out into the world under the title Bloodline Killer, and it’s set to receive a VOD and limited theatrical release on April 26th. With that date exactly one month away, a trailer has arrived online (our friends at Bloody Disgusting got the first look at it), and you can check it out in the embed above.
Smith is joined in the cast of Bloodline Killer by Tyrese Gibson (Morbius), Bruce Dern (The Hateful Eight), Taryn Manning (Orange Is the New Black), Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night), Drew Moerlein (South of Hell), Alexander James Rodriguez (Bee and Puppycat), Jaime Zevallos (Cloak and Dagger), James Gaudioso (Mid-Century), and Anthony Gaudioso (What Josiah Saw...

When Netflix released its first-ever Engagement Report — a revealing look into what (and how much) people are watching within the streamer’s film and TV catalog — live-action adult and young adult series like Ginny and Georgia, The Night Agent and Fubar were among those that topped nearly a billion hours watched.
But between January and June 2023, seasons of animated originals Sonic Prime, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, My Dad the Bounty Hunter and The Creature Cases also ranked among the 500 most-viewed series (out of 18,000), as did acquisitions like Paw Patrol, CoComelon, Pj Masks and Peppa Pig.
And while much of the streamer’s most popular animated content came from its kids and family programming, the report reveals new and previously released seasons of adult animation and anime entries like Castlevania, Love, Death & Robots, Bee and Puppycat, Disenchantment, Big Mouth, and Skull Island were among the top 22 percent of watched titles.

Toho International, the U.S. subsidiary of Japan’s leading film studio Toho Co., has agreed to buy stakes in three animated productions owned by Frederator Network, part of Genius Brands International’s Wow! Unlimited Media.
The deal gives Toho International 50 ownership of two completed series – “Bee and PuppyCat,” and “Bravest Warriors” – and a similar stake in the “Catbug” series that is currently in development as a spin off from “Bravest Warriors.” Deal terms were not disclosed, though Genius Brands described it as “a multimillion-dollar investment.”
The agreement provides a framework for Frederator Network and Toho International to co-produce new content for the properties and to cooperatively develop a global consumer products campaign.
Genius Brands will oversee global distribution and consumer products development for the properties, excluding Asia, which will be handled by Toho International. A dedicated online store for “Bee and PuppyCat” was launched in September 2022, to coincide with the series’ release on Netflix.

Last week, we heard that Shawnee Smith is considering reprising the role of Amanda Young in the latest Saw sequel – which we’re referring to as Saw X, since it’s the tenth film in that franchise. Amanda previously appeared in Saw, Saw II, Saw III, and Saw VI. But, as it turns out, there’s a bit of a scheduling issue here. Saw X is filming in Mexico City, and at the same time Smith is busy working on a different horror project in Connecticut. Deadline revealed that the horror movie Smith is currently working on is called The Skulleton.
Smith is joined in the cast of The Skulleton by Bruce Dern (The Hateful Eight), Tyrese Gibson (Morbius), Taryn Manning (Orange Is the New Black), Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night), Drew Moerlein (South of Hell), Alexander James Rodriguez (Bee and Puppycat), Jaime Zevallos (Cloak and Dagger), James Gaudioso...

“The Crown” took over Variety’s Trending TV chart for the week of Sept. 5 to 11, earning more than 384,000 engagements with the Twitter crowd following Queen Elizabeth II’s death on Sept. 8.
For five seasons, “The Crown” has traced the story of the Queen, but after the world learned of her death, the Netflix show suspended production to honor her. The series is currently in the middle of shooting its sixth and (supposedly) final season. Those episodes are said to revolve around events that took place in and around Buckingham Palace in the 1990s, including Princess Diana’s death in 1997.

The show’s fifth season, meanwhile, is scheduled to debut in November with a new cast. Imelda Staunton plays Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce is Prince Philip, Dominic West stars as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki portrays Princess Diana.

In 2013, Adventure Time character designer Natasha Allegri premiered Bee and PuppyCat, an animated series about a goofy gig worker and her adorable alien pet. The show, initially hosted by producer Frederator on its Cartoon Hangover YouTube channel, was an immediate hit. A campaign to fund the complete first season set Kickstarter records by raising more than 872,000, and Bee and PuppyCat became one of the most prominent IPs on the Cartoon Hangover channel.
Nine years later, the second season of Allegri’s animated fantasy has landed at Netflix. The new episodes of Bee and PuppyCat, which carry the collective subtitle Lazy in Space, retell the initial web series storyline before taking it in a new direction. The vibe is still as strange and wondrous as it used to be, even if some devoted fans are bristling at changes that have been made during the show’s extended hiatus.
So, what took so long?...

Things have been better for Bee. When we first meet her, the twenty-something is working at an adorable cat café. Unfortunately for Bee, she won't be for much longer — a fire breaks out and she's quickly dismissed from her job. She's keen to find more work so she can, you know, stay alive, but what she'll really miss from her job is all the glorious cats she fell in love with. While walking home, she comments on how she wants an animal to take care of. Just like that, from the sky, comes PuppyCat — not quite a cat, not quite a dog, but entirely adorable.
It's about to get weirder — Bee's quest for work isn't fruitful, but thanks to PuppyCat her fortunes are about to change. You see, PuppyCat can transport to alternate dimensions, taking Bee to visit Tempbot, an epic being that looks like a large screen with a little smiley face,...

Animation luminary Fred Seibert’s FredFilms will team up with Chinese content production firm DeZerlin Entertainment for an incubator projected called “Hot Pot! Cartoons,” which hopes to bring emerging Chinese talent and content out to the global market.
In the project, FredFilms’ U.S.-based development and production team and Qingdao-headquartered DeZerlin will supervise up-and-coming Chinese creators to develop animated shorts for global distribution.
“Often what’s happening with Western animation producers is we’re looking to get a toehold into the China market because it’s so large. And that’s fine, but it always makes me go, ‘Ok, well, what’s going on there that we can bring here, rather than vice versa,’” Seibert told Variety.
The serial entrepreneur has been taking an incubator approach to animation for almost 30 years, focusing on cultivating seven-or-so-minute shorts that can then go on to spin off into major series. As president of Hanna-Barbera in the 1990s,...

The IFP tweaked its Gotham Awards categories this year to better reflect the rich landscape on the small screen, and nominated two animated series in the process.
“Tuca & Bertie” and “Undone” will both compete for breakthrough short-form series honors this year, vying with “Pen15,” “Ramy” and “Russian Doll.” “Chernobyl,” “David Makes Man,” “My Brilliant Friend,” “Unbelievable” and “When They See Us” are competing for the long-form honors.
To qualify for the short-form category, episodes had to be 39 minutes or fewer, while episodes for long-form series had to be 40 minutes or longer. When the Ifp originally established these categories in 2015, long-form episodes had to be 30 minutes or longer while short-form episodes had to be 20 minutes or shorter in order to qualify.
Early winners tilted toward lower-profile web series, but with the advent of streamers, series have become creatively adventurous, causing the Gotham board to reconsider its guidelines.

For many kids, there’s something special about Halloween. There’s a magical property to picking out a costume, dressing up, and going door-to-door asking for candy. Halloween lets children express themselves and be whomever they want to be, whether that’s a superhero, a unicorn, or Abe Lincoln. That magic fades as puberty and teenagerhood beckon, but there’s a lot of nostalgia associated with the spooky holiday.
The spirit of Halloween is perfectly captured in the 2010 video game “Costume Quest,” developed by San Francisco-based studio Double Fine Productions and published by the now-defunct Thq. The role-playing game used cutesy graphics and a classic turn-based combat system to tell a story about becoming something different on Halloween, with kids quite literally becoming their costumes to fight monsters.

On Wednesday, it was revealed via a press release from Netflix that producer Adi Shankar’s long in-development adaptation of the long-running video game franchise, Castlevania, would be getting the TV treatment. Not only would the series be hitting the streaming service, but it would be hitting it soon. 2017 soon. That’s right, unlike many other TV announcements, you won’t have to sit on your hands for two years while the show runs through the development mill.
Now, on the heels of that announcement, Shankar has had a chance to give us a few more tidbits of information regarding the show. So what can we expect from this brutally violent series?
For starters, the show is animated.
If you’ve been following the project since its inception, you’ll know that back in 2015, Shankar first announced his involvement, stating he’d be working with Fred Seibert and Kevin Kolde.
