"What was it all for...?" Well Go USA has revealed a new trailer for another intense war movie titled Before Dawn, an Australian production made by Australian filmmaker Jordon Prince-Wright. Not to be confused with Werner Herzog's classic Rescue Dawn (the story of Dieter Dengler). After first opening Down Under in April, this hits VOD in the US in July. Before Dawn is the journey of fictional Western Australia outback kid Jim Collins and his battalion on the Western Front during World War I. He joins up eager to fight, only to discover the brutal realities of trench warfare. Of course. Starring Levi Miller (from A Wrinkle in Time) as Jim, with Travis Jeffery, Myles Pollard, Tim Franklin, Jordan Dulieu, introducing Peter Sullivan, with Ed Oxenbould & Stephen Peacocke. How many of these "war is hell" movies do they need to make? This is really All Quiet on the Western Front or 1917 all over again,...

Actors Eric Bana and Deborra-Lee Furness spoke about their experience in Australia while they filmed Force Of Nature: The Dry 2 in their new uInterview.
Force Of Nature: The Dry 2 is an Australian thriller, a sequel to the 2020 film The Dry, and based on Jane Harper’s 2017 novel Force of Nature. The movie follows five women who go on a hiking retreat where one disappears. A federal agent (Bana) arrives at the scene to help with the search leading to some explosive events.
Bana jumped in with his thoughts on what drew him to the story: “We loved the book’s premise. We thought it was a really exciting project. We have always loved the idea of these five women, so brilliantly written by Jane Harper, going on a corporate trip and getting lost. We just felt we hadn’t seen that before. We were really excited about that opportunity.

The comedy “Colin From Accounts” tends to surprise viewers who tune in expecting one thing, and realizing it’s something else altogether. It’s a romantic comedy with a most unusual name (read on if you want to find out who “Colin” actually is) and has become a phenomenon first in Australia, then on the BBC in the U.K., followed by the Nordic region and now in the U.S. via Paramount+, where it premiered earlier this month.
“Colin From Accounts” is written by and stars a married actors Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, who are Australian but live in Los Angeles. Last week, the news that André 3000 would be releasing an album of instrumental flute jams was greeted with enough head-scratching to draw blood. But don’t tell that to Jake Fridkis, who plays principal flute with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. If you’ve heard DJ Khaled and Drake’s “No Secret” or Roddy Rich and Ty Dolla Sign’s “llf,” among others, you’ve heard his instrument, which was woven into the fabric of those tracks. “It’s now hit the point where people are saying, ‘Flute is the new instrument in rap,...

Tumi Mhlongo Made a ‘Big Move Up’ to ‘Below Deck Med’ Chief Stew, Captain Jason Explains [Exclusive]
Captain Jason Chambers from Below Deck Down Under is eager to see how Tumi Mhlongo embraces her new role of chief stew on Below Deck Mediterranean.
Mhlongo was a second stew on Below Deck Down Under Season 1 and quickly became chief stew Aesha Scott’s right-hand person. Despite being relatively new to yachting at the time, Mhlongo was a natural leader and created gorgeous tablescapes.

Even though Mhlongo was a valued crew member, Chambers said transitioning from second to chief stew is not always an easy process.
“The season starts now, doesn’t it? I’ll have to catch up and see how she goes,” Chambers told Showbiz Cheat Sheet during an interview about Invisalign.
“I’m interested to see,” he added. “It’s a big move up to be a chief stewardess and have that responsibility. And especially on a TV show,...

There’s change on the high seas of Banijay.
Christian Sarabia, President of 51 Minds Entertainment, the production company behind Bravo hit Below Deck, is stepping down from the Banijay Americas-owned business.
Julie Pizzi, President of fellow Banijay-backed firm Bunim/Murray, will add overseeing 51 Minds to her responsibilities running the Real World producer.
It is the latest change for the group; earlier this year, Cris Abrego, who founded 51 Minds, stepped down as CEO of Banijay Americas with Ben Samek taking over that role and Abrego remaining as Chairman. There’s been much speculation about Abrego’s own role in recent months.
Sarabia has been with 51 Minds for many years, having produced series such as The Surreal Life and Flavor of Love. He took the reins at the company in 2014 after Abrego became one of the top execs at the-then titled Endemol North America and the departure of co-founder Mark Cronin.

“The Royal Hotel,” the setting of Kitty Green’s ulcer-inducing thriller, is a sun-baked bar in a rural Australian mining town surrounded by terrain so monotone that Canadian backpackers Hanna (Julia Garner) and Liv (Jessica Henwick) can’t keep their eyes open on the way in. The two young women arrive at their barmaid jobs with a sense of palpable disorientation. They’ve quite literally woken up in Oz, and they don’t know the people, the customs, the nicknames for the local ales, or the way out.
The customers are, as you might expect, gruff and girl-starved. (The chalkboard sign heralding their first shift reads: “Fresh meat.”) Hanna and Liv are steeled for that. They’re not idiots, even if their knowledge of Australia is pretty much limited to Fosters beer and kangaroos. Still, Green, a keen and steely talent, puts them — and us — through hell.
The worst part?...

The Australian show Surviving Summer is a wildcard entry for teen shows on Ott platforms. Not only has it got a fabulous cast that people can fall in love with, as is common with this kind of thing, but it also boasts some fantastic shots of the sea and the sport of surfing. It’s not like Surviving Summer brings anything new to the table in terms of teen drama and rebellious “not like other girls” characters, but it’s the surfing that really ties this show together to make it smooth sailing.
Season 1 was cute; we got introduced to some obnoxious teens who were trying really hard to play grown-ups. Summer, our titular protagonist, was dealing with her mommy issues and ended up making a mess of things when she couldn’t handle the love from her new friends and distanced herself from them. Australian entertainment is having a moment. “Bluey” has become a favorite of children and parents around the world and has even led to American kids speaking with Australian accents. “Neighbors,” the long-running Australian soap opera that helped launch the careers of stars like Russell Crowe, Kylie Minogue, and Chris Hemsworth, was given a second chance after being picked up by Amazon Freevee. And three new Australian series have reached 10 times the demand for the average series in the U.S. since May.
Leading the pack is Amazon Prime Video’s “Deadloch,” which premiered in June. “The Clearing,” a Disney+ original thriller available on Hulu in the U.S., was released around the same time as “Deadloch” and had similar demand. BBQs, pool parties, hiking, meals with family and friends. Or … or … you can forget all that and watch some great stuff on TV this Labor Day weekend. This is a list for those who choose the latter, a rundown of 10 worthwhile movies and shows now available to stream.
The Flash — Max
Warner Bros. boss David Zaslav infamously declared The Flash “the best superhero movie I’ve ever seen.” When the film was released in May, everyone wondered how many superhero films Zaslav had watched before this one. Yet the DC title starring Ezra Miller (which is a whole other conversation) also wasn’t nearly as lousy as its shockingly low box office suggested. The Flash is a modern-day spin on Back to the Future with clever dialogue, some affecting moments and, for once, a climactic CG-filled battle that isn’t the solution to the superhero’s crisis.

This year’s documentary nominees explore diverse subject matter as saving birds (“All that Breathes”) and an exploration of the life and career of photographer and activist Nan Goldin (“All the Beauty and the Bloodshed”). But the documentary nominees, which took place at the 15th annual Oscars on March 4, 1943 at the Cocoanut Grove, primarly revolved around World War II.
There were 25 nominees — shorts and features competed against each other — and four winners. The US Navy was the producer of winner “The Battle of Midway,” directed by John Ford. The 18-minute film featured footage from the Battle of Midway which was a crucial victory in the Pacific in 1942. There’s a new friendship in the Below Deck family. Pic credit: Bravo
Below Deck Down Under star Aesha Scott helps Below Deck alum Rhylee Gerber as she recovers from her breast implant removal surgery.
Both Rhylee and Aesha have been part of the Below Deck family for years.
Aesha got her start on Season 4 of Below Deck Mediterranean, returning for part of Season 5 after Hannah Ferrier was fired. This year Aesha helped launch the latest Below Deck spin-off Below Deck Down Under.
Rhylee appeared on Season 6 and Season 7 Below Deck and has become known for speaking her truth about the show and her experience.
The fiery redhead has earned a lot of hatred and backlash over the years, something she addressed recently as she puts the trolls on blast.
Now two Below Deck worlds have collided as one star steps up to help the other in her time of need.

TV viewers Down Under got a big surprise this week.
On the new episode of “The Masked Singer Australia”, former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams was unmasked as the season’s ninth celebrity performer.

Williams had been in character all season as the mysterious Microphone, taking on songs like A Great Big World’s “Say Something”.
She was finally unmasked after her performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” didn’t quite match up to the Rooster’s take on Labrinth’s “Beneath Your Beautiful”.
Judge and former Spice Girls member Mel B had pegged the Microphone as being Williams from the very first episode, while others on the show mistook her for Cyndi Lauper and others.

There are a lot of hard-working people in Hollywood both in front of and behind the camera. It’s hard to find one as busy as Michelle Visage, however. The star of late 80’s girl group Seduction spent over a decade in morning radio gigs until 2011 when she became a permanent judge on the third season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Since then she’s toured the world, won an Emmy Award, won a PGA Award, appeared on “Celebrity Big Brother UK,” co-hosted “Drag Race” franchises on the BBC and “Down Under,” and, frankly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Netflix’s global hit drama series “Clickbait” was conceived and shot in Melbourne but the settings were California. If it were commissioned today, it would more likely have kept an Australian accent too.
“Clickbait was commissioned out of the global team, but now that the Anz team is operating, we are here to make Australian stories,” said Que Minh Luu, Netflix director of content, Australia and New Zealand recently.
There is a need for local stories to please individual market, but as successes like Korea’s “Squid Game” and Spain’s “La Casa de Papel” have demonstrated, local stories are also increasingly able to cross borders.
Luu was speaking at last month’s Screen Forever conference, taking place in person for the first time in two years, on the Gold Coast. Amazon, Stan, Binge and Paramount Plus (newly launched Down Under) were also present and were, similarly, promising to bolster their Australian content commitments.

NBC’s hit disaster action series “La Brea” will return to Australia for production of season two. The series will receive $11.5 million (A$16 million) of subsidy from the Australian federal government.
The move was announced on Monday by Paul Fletcher, Australia’s federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts. He said that the show will film again in Victoria state, but gave no specifics about the timings. NBC announced the show’s renewal in November, after seven episodes had aired.
The show’s narrative involves a massive sinkhole that mysteriously opens in Los Angeles, transporting a disparate group of strangers to an unexplainable primeval world. Meanwhile, the rest of the world desperately seeks to understand what happened. One family, torn apart by this disaster, has to unlock the secrets of the inexplicable event to find a way back to each other.

Stefan Hunt thought he’d be working all his life to achieve something approaching a BAFTA Award.
Yet the 34-year-old director has already been recognised with such an honour, winning the BAFTA TV prize for Best Short Programme earlier this year for his film They Saw the Sun First.

In the arthouse documentary, made in New York – where Hunt was living up until last year – voice-over interviews with older people about their life experiences and ageing are brought to life through dance.
The short’s origins are in a conversation that Hunt had with a friend back in Australia about the importance of eldership; it struck him he didn’t have older people in his own life.
“That sparked this curiosity to want to sit down with elders and talk to them about all these themes that I’m interested in: ageing,...

Two animated children’s projects and two live-action series will share in $3.2 million of production funding from Screen Australia.
Northern Pictures’ Tom Weekly Versus… and Werner Film Productions’ Surviving Summer are being made for ViacomCBS and Netflix, respectively, while animation offerings 100% Wolf: The Book of Hath from Flying Bark Productions and Kangaroo Beach Summer Special from Cheeky Little Media will both appear on the ABC.
Screen Australia’s head of content Sally Caplan said the funding reflected Screen Australia’s commitment to supporting quality Australian screen stories for young audiences.
“It’s important that Australian kids can see their stories and experiences reflected on screen and families around the country will be in for a treat with these new projects,” she said.
“Northern Pictures are going from strength to strength – building on the success of Hardball, they are now set to bring popular book series Tom Weekly to the screen.

David Petruschin is known to “RuPaul’s Drag Race” fans as Raven. The fan favorite competed in both Season 2 and “All Stars” Season 1 and has been working as RuPaul’s makeup artist for the past five years. Last year pushed Petruschin to work under new conditions when production resumed on “Drag Race” U.K, U.S and a new iteration, “Down Under,” amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He had to pivot to making up the queen of drag with new safety protocols in place, and he earned this third consecutive variety, nonfiction or reality program makeup Emmy nom in the process. (He won last year.)
How did you go from being a contestant on “Drag Race” to RuPaul’s makeup artist?
In 2016, I was asked to come and do Ru’s makeup. Up until then, I had only seen RuPaul in drag when the whole monster was done. I never thought I would see the inner workings.

Russell Crowe has announced plans to back a new film studio in Australia’s Coffs Harbour, situated on the country’s New South Wales Mid North Coast. The state-of-the-art facility, with an estimated value of $438M, will be constructed on a sprawling pre-existing Pacific Bay resort complex and will integrate production, post-production and accommodation and amenities.
Crowe, who lives in the coastal city situated between Sydney and the Gold Coast, will back the project with partners including Pacific Bay resort owner Peter Montgomery and film production Keith Rodger.
“The opportunity to build a facility like this spreads opportunity through the community by creating jobs, but not just jobs: actual professions and careers,” Crowe said at a press conference on Wednesday. “For a number of years I’ve been thinking how I might be able to combine where I live and my work.”

Streaming heavyweights have big global aspirations, and they’re relying on a growing cadre of women to realize them.
Female leaders abound at Netflix and Amazon Studios, where international programming initiatives are well underway, and they occupy top roles at Disney, Viacom and HBO Max as the businesses expand globally. In a sign of how important these initiatives are to Netflix, the streamer elevated Bela Bajaria, formerly head of local-language programming, to head of global TV in September as part of a broader corporate realignment. Earlier, in June, it lured Eleonora “Tinny” Andreatta, who shepherded HBO’s cross-national hit “My Brilliant Friend” as head of Rai drama, to oversee Italian originals. At Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, a proponent of global franchises, is relying on an all-female regional leadership team to grow the company’s international fortunes. Sydney, Nov 19 (Ians) A lot hinges on batting mainstay Cheteshwar Pujara, who was the star of Indias historic Test series triumph in 2018-19, during the forthcoming Test series in Australia.
The right-handed No.3 batsman, who amassed 521 runs with three centuries and earned the Man-of-the-Series award in 2018-19, got down to batting at the nets for a long session on Thursday to prepare for the Border-Gavaskar series that India are seeking to defend.
Pujara faced net bowlers, who are travelling with the Indian team, as well as regular India bowlers like R Ashwin.
A video posted by the Bcci showed him using the backfoot to good effect as also leaving the deliveries outside the off-stump which had been his forte in the previous series Down Under.
"The wait is over. @cheteshwar1 is back in the nets and is back to doing what he loves the most. Bowlers be prepared for a long workout.

As if sensing that the election would provide enough nail-biting excitement to last Americans for days, distributors have largely backed off the first weekend in November.
Focus Features is releasing a solid Kevin Costner-Diane Lane thriller with serious Red State appeal in “Let Him Go,” for those with access to theaters, and there are a number of backlogged festival movies picking this weekend to open: the best of them is “Proxima,” featuring Eva Green as a French astronaut preparing to leave her son behind for her first trip to space, though Toronto 2019 premiere “Jungleland” and Sundance oddity “Koko-di Koko-da” are solid options as well.
Genre fans have a few options, ranging from “Triggered” (a “Battle Royale”-esque survival game in which old friends must kill one another to survive) to “The Informer,” a movie that opened in theaters abroad way back in 2019, but brings some excitement to a tame frame.
