The third season of American Idol on ABC will debut a little sooner than the previous two.

While he was still recovering, he got a call from James Cameron about auditioning to play the morphing, cop-impersonating T-1000 in Terminator 2. Cameron took Idol on...

Two fathers and two sons are embroiled in the aftermath of a cover-up wherein one boy winds up dead and the other imprisoned. Su-jin Lee could have spun his tale with little else since the perpetrator’s father (Han Suk-kyu’s Koo Myung-hui) is a political messiah running for governor while the victim’s dad (Sol Kyung-gu’s Yoo Joong-sik) possesses just enough desperation and desire for retribution to go to court and make certain no strings are pulled behind the scenes for leniency. Although that’s the sort of heavy drama that can sustain a film like Idol for at least ninety minutes, Lee thinks much bigger as his never-ending series of incendiary twists and turns unfolds.
His first step in making things hurt is providing these fathers a choice. Koo comes home from a business trip to find his wife in the garage next to a dead man wrapped in plastic.

For a quiet and humble soul, “American Idol” Season 17 runner-up Alejandro Aranda is making a big splash this week. He announced on his Instagram account that, in addition to his sold-out seven-date summer tour that starts on July 8, he will also do a 28-date lineup of concerts in October and November.
Aranda, 25, has also signed with Hollywood Records and has been recording an album. And one of Pomona, Calif., favorite sons just released a new single, “Tonight,” an alt-rock love ballad that he performed on the “Idol” finale. It was co-written by his mentor, Twin Shadow, who made an appearance on the reality competition show as well. Aranda performed a total of seven original songs on the show, more than any other contestant previously. The other titles: “Out Loud,” “Cholo Love,” “10 Years,” “Poison,” “Blesser” and “Millennial Love.” “Tonight” is available to stream and download.

Two “American Idol” alumni — Gabby Barrett and Alejandro Aranda — as well as viral star Greyson Chance all announced new major label recording contracts this week.
Barrett, who finished in third place of the first season of the rebooted ABC version of “Idol,” has joined the roster of Warner Music Nashville. The singer had previously let the cat out of the bag during this season of “Idol,” when she returned to the stage to perform her single, “I Hope,” which hit No. 1 on the Radio Disney top 50 in April. The Pennsylvania native was recently tapped as a “Highway Find” artist on the Sirius Xm channel, The Highway, with “I Hope” taking the top position on the channel’s top 30 list. She is currently in the studio with Grammy-nominated producer Ross Copperman working on her debut release. Barrett is represented by Red Light Management and William Morris Endeavor.

After years of trying with “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” might Fox finally walk off with an Emmy for Best Competition Program thanks to “The Masked Singer”? Throughout the category’s existence Fox has contended a whopping 14 times — “Idol” from 2003-11 and “Sytycd” from 2011-15 — but it lost each of its Emmy bids to either CBS (“The Amazing Race”), Bravo (“Top Chef”) or NBC (“The Voice”). If any show can pull off a first-time victory for the Fox network it’s “The Masked Singer,” which tasks everyday celebrities with dressing up in extravagant costumes and performing for America.

Vying for the heart of Howard Stern co-host Robin Quivers isn’t for the weak. So “American Idol” alum Jackie Tohn, who stars in the Netflix wrestling comedy “Glow,” threw herself into the ring, recruiting Stern song parody veteran Eli Bradon for a pair of parodies that had Stern and his SiriusXM listeners in stitches.
Tohn’s two collaborations with Braden — raunchy love songs to Quivers set to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s sultry duet of “Shallow” from “A Star is Born,” and a positively filthy take on Cher’s “Believe” — both received big praise from Stern, who said the “Shallow” duet, which encouraged Quivers to try hooking up with girls, gave him “chills.”
“Fred is tearing up right now,” he laughed.
Getting the song on the show, Tohn said, and having Stern give her a big plug was one of the “biggest highlights of my career,” she tells Variety.

One of the most viral contestants of “American Idol” this season was someone who didn’t even make it to the live shows: Shayy. This 18-year-old high school student from Midlothian, Va recently lost her vision due to a brain tumor, which the doctors were only partially able to remove. Shayy’s initial audition of Andra Day‘s “Rise Up” was the most-watched audition of Season 17, which is why it was so shocking to see her eliminated in the Hawaii showcase round. The good news for “American Idol” fans is that Shayy returned during Sunday’s season finale to perform “Rise Up” with — who else? — the original singer herself. Watch the video above.

Hey, "American Idol" fans. Happy Sunday! Tonight, May 19, 2019 was indeed the big night! Finale night! That's right, guys. This long season finally came to a freaking end tonight, and a winner was revealed. All Of the final three contestants: Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg performed two, new songs. They also took part in some artist collaborations. Tonight's Live finale lasted a freaking, full three hours. That's the first in its history. I guess ABC is a lot more generous with their airtime than Fox ever wanted to be. To kick off the show, Judge Lionel Richie, mentor Bobby Bones and a whole bunch of other people hit up the stage to sing, “Dancing on the Ceiling.” Eventually, the top ten Idol contestants returned to join Lionel on stage. After all of that, Laine Hardy hit the stage to sing his first song of the night, which was, "Home" by Marc Broussard.

It will lead into “The Good Doctor” at 10/9c as it’s done the last two seasons. An exact premiere date will be announced at a later time.
And despite Tom Bergeron‘s — and your — wish, the results show will not be back. The “American Idol” revival has been renewed for a third season at ABC. The show’s second season — at least on its new home network — finale will air Sunday, May 19.
Offers have been made for host Ryan Seacrest and judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to return to the FremantleMedia North America-produced series, an individual with knowledge of the renewal tells TheWrap. While there is no word yet on if any or all of them will be back for the show’s third season, the insider tells us ABC is hoping for the team’s return.
The second season of the “Idol” revival, which premiered at midseason, is currently averaging a 1.7 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 8.9 million viewers, while Monday nights put up a 1.5 rating and 8.3 million viewers, according to the “most current” data from Nielsen, which includes a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available.

ABC’s votes are in: American Idol will return for an 18th season (its third on ABC), TVLine has learned. Though an exact premiere date has yet to be announced, it’s safe to assume that the search for America’s next superstar will resume sometime in Jan. 2020.
With ratings down sharply vs. Season 2, rumors abound that ABC is looking to pare down costs in Season 3. Much of the potential belt-tightening is allegedly focused on the salaries of the judges (most notably Katy Perry, who is said to be pocketing $20 million per season). ABC is preparing to unveil a third-season pickup for “American Idol” at its 2019-2020 season schedule presentation to advertisers on Tuesday, but the lineup behind the judges’ table is still a work in progress.
ABC and FremantleMedia North America have only recently started negotiations on possible new talent deals for “Idol” judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Perry made headlines in 2017 when she signed on for an eye-popping $25 million a year.
It’s understood that ABC has told Fremantle it hopes to make “Idol” a long-term network franchise but only if the current cost structure can come down. “Idol” has performed credibly but not spectacularly for ABC this season. ABC brought Fremantle’s durable competition franchise back to U.S. primetime in 2018, less than two years after the show wrapped a storied 14-year run on Fox in 2016.
