My head is still spinning from everything that just transpired.
Seriously, if The Rookie Season 6 Episode 9 didn't do anything else, it would have set the stage for a positively explosive season finale.
The hour was all gas and no brakes. So many names were thrown at us that it was hard to keep up, and with so many moving pieces, it was like watching a chess championship.
Listen, we know The Rookie can do season finales right, and if this hour was any indication, we're gearing up for another epic one.
But as jampacked and head-spinning as this installment was, I'd be remiss if I didn't wonder where this was throughout the season.
The shortened seasons have been more curse than blessing for so much of the series that we've come to enjoy. While The Rookie Season 6 has some solid episodes and the cast always rises to the occasion to entertain us,...

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel once again shared the Disney upfronts stage on Tuesday, providing his zingers in person for advertisers and media buyers at the programming presentation for the first time in five years. That’s because last year Kimmel didn’t attend due to the Hollywood WGA strikes. And in 2022, he was in New York — but had to be beamed in to do his routine after testing positive for Covid. (The 2021 and 2020 upfronts were virtual because of the pandemic.)
“Two years ago, I couldn’t be here in person because I had Covid. And last year, I couldn’t be here because of the writer’s strike. And this year I couldn’t think of a third excuse,” Kimmel said. “I tried diarrhea on the plane, but I guess they get that all the time now.”

After a two-year absence from the upfront stage, Jimmy Kimmel was back Tuesday to take aim at Bob Iger, P Diddy, CBS and the new Golden Bachelorette.
Introduced by Kerry Washington — who he said was the “last decent lead-in I ever had” — Kimmel had fun with an artificial version of Bob Iger on screen and another version of the Golden Bachelor franchise called The Golden Retriever: Love is a Bitch.
Here’s his monologue:
“Let’s hear it for all the talented stars who were forced to come here today because of a clause in their contract their agents didn’t bother to read. I am glad you’re all inside. I heard Amazon left you guys out on the porch. You’re lucky you didn’t get stolen.”

The theme of Disney’s 2024 upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday was “connections” — and not just because of the running bit started by “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Rob McElhenney, which involved their constant replaying of a five-second ad spot that said “Connections!” with a Disneyified logo and voiceover.

When a reliable performer like The Rookie, which has always been on the fall schedule if not delayed by a pandemic or strike, is suddenly not in a network’s starting lineup for the season, fans understandably would be worried.
Magnifying their concerns is the fact that The Rookie is headed into its seventh season, which is when a lot of broadcast series are canceled these days, including two ABC dramas, Station 19 and The Good Doctor, this year.
Meanwhile, Will Trent, which launched in midseason two years ago, had its first chance to get on the ABC fall schedule but didn’t get it.
Keeping the two dramas on the bench does not signal a lack of confidence in them.
“The opposite,” Disney TV Group President Craig Erwich told Deadline in an interview tied to the Disney upfront presentation.

Well, if you had tried to get us to guess the ABC 2024-25 fall season announcement, we couldn’t have predicted much of it.
There are new shows sprinkled throughout, but ABC is going almost full reality, which is a choice.
Let’s see what we’ve got to work with here.
Two new shows will interest TV Fanatics: High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson, which was delayed due to the strikes, and Doctor Odyssey, starring Joshua Jackson as a cruise ship doctor.
High Potential gets a 10/9c slot on Tuesdays after Dancing with the Stars.
Despite the relationship disaster of The Golden Bachelor, ABC is dedicating an hour and a half weekly to The Golden Bachelorette while snuggling award-winning comedy Abbott Elementary between that and a docuseries called Scamanda.
Thursdays find Doctor Odyssey after 9-1-1 and before Grey’s Anatomy.
And TV Fanatic favorites The Rookie and Will Trent? Saved for midseason.

ABC will once again have Abbott Elementary as a centerpiece of its Wednesday night in 2024-25 — but it will begin the season without any companion comedies.

ABC is doubling down with Ryan Murphy on Thursday nights. The Alphabet network revealed a fall 2024 schedule on Tuesday that features the Murphy’s “9-1-1” and newcomer “Doctor Odyssey” on Thursday nights.
The move now turns the night — long the home for Shonda Rhimes’ hit “Tgit” franchises, into a bit of a “Tgim” — “Thank God It’s Murphy” — and shifts “Grey’s Anatomy” to 10 p.m.
Also, the network revealed that it is going with an “Abbott Elementary” island on Wednesdays, sandwiched between a 90-minute format for “The Golden Bachelorette” and then the unexpected, previously unannounced true crime ABC News docuseries “Scamanda.”
But don’t fret for “Abbott,” says Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich. He tells Variety that after the success of “The Golden Bachelor” in the fall, lead-in from “The Golden Bachelorette” will “position it to continue to garner both audience as well as the critical claim that it so deserves.

The Rookie – Photo Credit: Disney/Raymond Liu Nathan Fillion Nathan Fillion now has two long-running TV series under his belt — Castle, which ran for eight seasons, and The Rookie, which is still going strong in its sixth season. Fans of both shows will probably recognize a few similarities between the shows that extend beyond their star: Both shows have a strong mix of drama and comedy, and both have generally featured stories that wrap up neatly in each hour-long episode. Alexi Hawley was a writer and producer on Castle, and he created The Rookie; Fillion has been an executive producer on both shows. If the two of them were to work together again after The Rookie winds up his run, they told us they would most likely follow the formula that’s worked so well for them already. Unfortunately for all Chicago Fire viewers, the show's cast has undergone quite a few changes since season 1. A good half of the original characters introduced in the show's pilot have been let go.
And while some of them, like Gabriela Dawson, have been peacefully written off and sent overseas, others, like Leslie Shay and Otis Zvonecek, have met darker ends.
While NBC's firefighter hit isn't known for being as gruesome as Grey's Anatomy when it comes to killing off characters, both Shay and Otis' deaths left a big impression on viewers. While Lauren German, who portrayed Shay, almost immediately moved on to Fox's supernatural hit Lucifer, Yuriy Sardarov, who portrayed Otis, has been a bit more reserved.

As tragic and traumatic as Sardarov's farewell to Otis was for fans, the actor continued to build his acting career.

Former NBC chief Paul Telegdy is getting into the podcast business.
Telegdy, who left the network in August 2020, has teamed up with Access Hollywood host Mario Lopez and The Rookie star Eric Winter, to develop a sci-fi podcast, Zone of Silence.
It marks one of the first projects to be unveiled by Telegdy since he set up The Whole Spiel with his cousin, Stefan Telegdy. In 2022, he was involved in a Falklands war drama series that was being shopped.
Zone of Silence, which is made in Spanish and English, is being produced by The Whole Spiel and Sonoro.
There are plans to develop it as a scripted television series as well as in other mediums.
The podcast will be centered around Mexico’s often mythicized Zone of Silence, a patch of desert in Durango where no radio signals can be received, which according to urban legend is caused by supernatural forces.

Well, The Rookie sure knows how to cram in the maximum amount of stress and pain in 45 minutes or less!
To say The Rookie Season 6 Episode 8 was an adrenaline-inducing, nail-biter, filled to the brim with revelations, badassery, and soul-crushing moments would be an understatement.
While we already knew Monica, the second most interesting redhead to grace this series, was shady as willow tree in July, learning that she's working alongside Blair was a shock.
But that's not to say most of us weren't suspicious of Blair initially.
The Rookie tips its hat as a procedural because it can be formulaic despite all the unpredictable and intense moments.
One thing consistent about this series is that when they introduce a new recurring side character, nine times out of 10, that person is a Baddie or at least adjacent to some nefarious things.
Blair has been high on everyone's suspect list since she...

Actor Nathan Fillion had just completed his run as Castle when he was cast in The Rookie. But he admitted he sometimes found it hard to leave his Castle character behind when doing the hit ABC series.
Nathan Fillion’s ‘Castle’ habits died hard Nathan Fillion | Nicole Wilder/Getty Images
It might’ve taken a while for Fillion to truly shake off Richard Castle for The Rookie. In the ABC series, Fillion found himself in somewhat familiar territory. Like Castle, The Rookie saw Fillion’s character, John Nolan, solving crimes. So it might’ve been easy to channel Rick Castle from time to time, even after the show’s end.
But personality-wise, Castle and Nolan couldn’t have been any more different. Rick Castle was a mystery writer who tagged along with police officers, many times unwelcomed, for his own amusement at first. The character also didn’t always take...

For all its flaws, The Rookie remains an excellent procedural that continues to delight viewers with its balanced mix of police drama, action, and comedy. Based on the true story of an LAPD officer who joined the law enforcement in his mid-40s, the show centers on the department's oldest rookie, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), who finally gets the chance to become a training officer himself in Season 5. Despite the fact that the ABC series receives mediocre scores from critics, it is very popular among audiences, earning The Rookie not only a spin-off, Feds (unfortunately canceled due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes), but also a renewal for a new seventh season.
But for now, we still have three episodes of Season 6 to go, and the plot continues to develop rapidly, providing viewers with intriguing storylines that promise to shock fans closer to the finale. As such, we saw a...

The doctors were in at the top of Nielsen’s streaming ratings for the beginning of April.
Medical dramas The Resident and Grey’s Anatomy were the top two titles for the week of April 1-7, finishing with 1.18 billion and 1.15 billion minutes of viewing time (both stream on Hulu and Netflix). The Resident actually slipped a little from the previous week‘s 1.48 billion minutes, which was good for second overall, but the show that had been ahead of it — Netflix’s 3 Body Problem — fell further. The sci-fi series dropped by about 47 percent to a still solid 937 million minutes of viewing.

One of TV’s most iconic families gets a chance to say goodbye.
Deadline reports that The Conners is nearing an official pickup at ABC for Season 7.
The caveat is that it would be the Roseanne follow-up’s final season of around six episodes.
A deal is still being ironed out but is expected to be finalized relatively soon. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are among the cast members expected to return.
Many final seasons of long-running shows lose cast members due to the ever-increasing costs of making TV.
A consistent performer for ABC since it premiered, the show has much softer ratings than Roseanne – all following Roseanne’s controversial cancellation in 2018.
The Conners debuted following Roseanne’s cancellation

Love is what many of us are inadvertently drawn to within the series.
But it also garners the most drama, and some of it is contrived and unnecessary.
It is far too familiar now for television series to put some of the most notable couples through the wringer for the sole purpose of angst and drama. Yes, we're looking at you, Chenford.
Unfortunately, the status quo for many series has become putting interesting characters together and then showing how terribly they are at conflict resolution.
It's like series are so determined to capitalize off the drama and angst within relationships that they don't even bother investing in any other angle.
It's become frustrating that series have resorted to the same patterns when showcasing their couples and what they go through rather than delivering on the more realistic and inspiring option of serving as positive examples for relationships.

Actor Nathan Fillion didn’t take long to find work in The Rookie after Castle‘s 2016 cancellation. Looking back on the way the series ended, Fillion might’ve been just as disappointed in it as some of the show’s fans.

The first step in fixing a problem is acknowledging that there is one and getting help.
Tim Bradford is on the path to doing that after everything that has happened to him, and Blair is the person he's willing to turn to to get the ball rolling by the end of The Rookie Season 6 Episode 7.
But is that the best choice? It's one of many things worth discussing during this installment.
Overall, it was a genuinely pleasant hour! And that sounds a bit sardonic, but that's not the case.

Oh, we've been eagerly awaiting The Rookie's return.
There are some high expectations for The Rookie Season 6 Episode 7 as we're left to wonder about the state of Chenford and how Lucy and Tim will interact with one another since their controversial breakup.
It was an act that left fans reeling, many bordering on angry, as Tim pushed Lucy away after a harrowing experience.
Hopefully, we can anticipate that the upcoming episode will pick up where The Rookie Season 6 Episode 6 left off or close to it, and we can face the aftermath of the various events that have seriously impacted Tim Bradford's life.
As mentioned in the promo, Sergeant Grey doesn't mince words to remind Bradford that within the past week, he's dealt with a demotion from his position at Metro due to his misconduct and also broke up with Lucy.
It's particularly amusing that Grey goes out of...
