Completely gorgeous
user-56-5839208 January 2018
I was both excited and trepidatious when i heard that Andrew Peterson was hoping to animate my favorite book series. Adaptations are dangerous territory. But i cannot believe how gorgeous this turned out! i've watched it probably a dozen times and am so, so thrilled by it. i've never seen animation like this. It's like a living watercolor paintbox. THE COLORS! The colors are breathtaking! And it's insane how much detail is packed into each set-i could wander the bookstore for days. Between the colors and the characters and the sets, you can hit pause anywhere and be amazed. The character i am most attached to and therefore was most nervous to see on-screen was Peet the Sock Man. i don't think i could've handled it if they hadn't gotten him right, but they DID. The humor and tension are well-balanced. Leeli's song is beautiful and haunting. Nugget's insolence might be my favorite part, ha.

If you've read the books, you will find a lot to love here. Any adaption requires some change, so some things that don't bother me might bother another reader, but i was impressed with how clearly everything came through. And if you haven't read the books yet, this is a good introduction to an epic story which i personally love with my whole heart.

So far my review has just been about the animation, so i should also add: This is a fun story. It gets deeper, way deeper, as it goes, and i want to see the rest of it.

Basically, i need more of this.

An artful adaptation of a book series that speaks to the heart

The Wingfeather Saga, much like the Narnia series, has brought me closer to my children through the many deep heart issues it helps us talk about and weep over together.

A fantastic view into one of our favorite worlds...

If you've never read the Wingfeather Saga (a series of four books written by Andrew Petersen, starting with On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness), then you need to stop reading this and head over to your nearest bookstore. For real. Those books are amazing - my entire family loves them. That being said, this short film is a separate creation, and should be reviewed on its own merits.

It is... magical. It's like watching a world through the eyes of an Impressionist, as the animation is unique and captivating. The characters are immediately likable, and the whole world of Aerwiar is introduced in a way that gets a good bit of information across quickly. My two year old walks around quoting it, because we've seen it so many times most of us have chunks memorized.

One of our absolute favorite parts is the narrator bits. Once you see them, you'll know what I mean. It's clever and funny and we all want to go to Glipwood...

An artful and loving adaptation

This short film transfers the magic of my favorite book series to the screen. The art is beautiful. The music is enchanting. The short snippet is able to capture a remarkable amount of the action of the first portion of the book. I eagerly anticipate the future series produced by this team.

Beautiful, like the books!

This needs to be a full-length film. I can't get over the music, either - I could listen to Yurgan's Tune all day. I'm not normally a cartoon person, but they managed to make this short both beautiful and nostalgic, and to keep a story line that will appeal to young people of all ages. Now, please give us more of the story. :)

Love this adventure

So excited to finally see this!! Beautiful story coming to life. Can't wait for future episodes. The creatures are so creative and fun. My favorite character is Oskar and his ridiculous quotations.

It's good to have good entertainment for children and even better entertainment that speaks truth and hope. I don't know if the entire story will be told, but we are hoping so.

Andrew and team have done an amazing job bringing this story to life. I hope young people and old alike will be captured by this adventure.

First episode had a new Andrew Peterson song. Hope to see a soundtrack soon. Thanks for all the hard work to make this so special.

The kids loved it and so did we!

We just finished watching episode one of the Wingfeather Saga and our boys, aged 8 and 6, immediately asked to watch it again. It was enjoyable for the adults too.. We are new to this series and are super excited to watch more! The soundtrack/singing was beautiful and the animation style was playful and fun. I think we will get even more from this show after we read the books, because there was a lot going on. The world is rich and full of detail. The fangs are scary characters, as are some of the animal creatures, so be aware that younger children may find this frightening. As a parent I love finding shows we can watch with our kids.

Our only complaint is that it only lasted 15 minutes

A great adaptation of the start of written story... We all know how translating novels to film can result in something that falls short of expectations. This just left us wanting more. Can't wait for the full series!

I do not know the book series but this short film has the virtue to remind me all the flavors of the childhood lectures. In the most beautiful manner. And it is enough to define it as real great.

An amazing story come to life!
kdchase-901693 December 2022
My family has loved every one of the books. The show was highly anticipated in our house, and it did not disappoint! The art was beautifully unique, and the soundtrack was incredible. The cast did a wonderful job of bringing these beloved characters to life. My whole family was immediately drawn deeper into the story in a new way. It was so fun to see the creatures in motion; the toothy cow was so wonderfully frightening. The Fangs of Dang were as awful as they were written to be. Wonderful! We look forward to grabbing the soundtrack while we wait for the rest of the series to roll out. You can tell a lot of heart went into bringing this story to the screen. We can't wait for the rest!
