Cri de Coeur
bobcobb3011 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Helena Bonham Carter has been great all season and we saw a lot of depth in Princess Margaret here, but it was perhaps too much of her given this was the season finale. We should have had something involving the Queen in a bigger role.

Concludes what has been a different season.
ryanporter46723 November 2019
Overall season three has been somewhat different from what we've previously experienced, and I think this episode shows that. I find the show is in a tug of war between fans who want more queen, and the fans who want the intertwined politics and family complications of the time. Whilst I prefer the latter, season three has found the right balance. Fans must remember, this is an historically accurate TV show, which unfortunately means there may be occasions where the history doesn't match the glamour viewers are expecting. I understand the annoyance with less focus on the Queen, but at the periods portrayed, could it be there was nothing interesting to show with her majesty??? Ultimately, this show captures a wide audience base and therefore must cater to all.

A fantastic end to season three, loved the emotions between Margaret and Elizabeth. Amazing acting, great music, and a great story.

There Is Only One Queen
dalefl4 December 2019
Even in her "loose cannon" existence you can't help but feel a certain empathy for her situation. Helena Bonham Carter plays this to the hilt. I get the feeling from this episode that the writers are going out of their way to flesh the entire thing out now so that they can put it to bed, so to speak, and get her funeral out of the way very early next season. They're going to have to address the Diana/Charles situation and that's likely going to take more than a few episodes.

The acting in this show is superb, whether or not you like the players. This entry is no different. It touches on a lot of issues that haven't been dealt with yet. In all of her stoicism and her seemingly anhedonic nature she turns to the sister she's always considered a stain and embarrassment for advice and finally shows a human side. It is very evident that Margaret appreciates it.

I can understand why some people wouldn't like this episode. I enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty good. Ravens coming home to roost as it were. Looking forward to the next season. Well done.

Season 3 review
Kingslaay10 December 2019
Overall not a bad season. Olivia Coleman does a decent job of sounding like the Queen despite not looking anything like her. Decent performances from the cast. The stronger episodes were Charles's investiture and Alberfan.

This season seemed steady but I felt there were no over the top moments. When things are historical that people can easily read up on I feel a show needs to go beyond and show angles we didn't expect. Claire Foy to me is still the definitive Queen. Coleman has been decent but not filled her big shoes. Helena Bon Carter felt underused this season besides her acting abilities. Compared to previous seasons this season was somewhat underwhelming. I still rate it high and will eagerly await season 4 but had expected more.

The ultimate tv drama
peterrayner-657811 March 2020
This season of the crown is the best yet ,fabulous costumes, sets and believable acting. They left the best for the last episode in the season and the transition from seasons 1 and 2 by Olivia Coleman and Tobias Menzies has worked flawlessly and I can't wait for season 4,which looks like being aired late 2020. To Royalists and Republicans alike, this drama is, i think so compelling.

God Save Princess Margaret!
Quinn407710 November 2022
Princess Margaret and Prince Philip make this season! The episodes, like this one, where they are at the center are my favorites. I love Helena Bonham Carter and Tobias Menzies - in general and in their roles here. I've started watching The Crown in the past year in preparation for Season 5, which is great and furthers my personal IMDB "game" - I love connecting the characters in the Crown with their roles in the Harry Potter movies, Call the Midwife episodes, or the Outlander series, having seen (and read) all of those years before seeing The Crown. With the exception of a couple of episodes, Season 3 is fantastic and this finale is one of the best. It truly is a pivotal season in terms of the time line, story arc, and change in actors playing certain characters, those playing the Queen and Prince Charles stand out the most.

Margaret Miscast
bmmmamaw22 April 2021
I'm sorry but in my opinion, Helena Bonham Carter is totally Miscast in the role of Margaret. For one thing, she's too old for the age of Margaret at the time this is all happening. Plus, I find her general appearance (brown eyes, hair styles) distracting. Surely another actress that is closer in age and appearance to Margaret in the 70's.

Why Do We Care?
Hitchcoc5 December 2020
I've really enjoyed this season. It has spread the attention around. Prince Charles, Prince Philip, Margaret, , Princess Ann,the Queen, the cast of Prime Ministers. Some complain there isn't enough Queen. But it's called "The Crown," which is a general term for the royalty. I've loved the attention to historical events and the rise of the next generation. Margaret is not a fun character. Her bitterness over Elizabeth refusing to monarchy with her defines her. She has everything one could want materially, but she is unhappy. Husband, Tony, cares for her on the one hand and can't stand her on the other. He is also a self centered jerk. In this finale of Season 3, the sparks fly. We also see Elizabeth's kindness toward this profligate sibling. There are some sad moments as we find out about the illness of Edward Heath. I think the episode was well done...it was just uncomfortable to watch.

Now we have
BeGerman21 November 2019
The Firm.... a perfect last episode. The drama of princess Margaret are on the pik and Charles personal drama on the starting point. E2 search for hear ideal position queen. A good finally and starting poor for season 4. Everyone has position in the firm. Is he happy with it. Business is the art of war. And it's start internationally befor they out saw it. The history are written and will see the way to it as a family drama... step by step. I have no doubt...

Cry from the heart
TheLittleSongbird21 June 2022
On the whole, Season 3 was not as good as the previous two seasons and did start off slowly. It was however better than expected and the best episodes of it were pretty outstanding, with "Aberfan" for examples being one of my favourite episodes of 'The Crown'. The final Season 3 episode "Cri De Coeur" focuses primarily on Margaret, who to me was variably written in this series (with me not being enamoured with her in the first season and finding that she had come on a long way in development in the second).

"Cri De Coeur" really isn't one of the better Margaret-centric episodes, the subject in real life was a lot more interesting than what is shown here. It is not a particularly great end to a season that started off slowly but showed significant improvement and it was like the things that came on a lot over the season had never shown much improvement. Instead of something earth shattering as one might expect from a season ending perhaps, "Cri De Coeur" was like going back to where the season starting.

By all means there are things that are done well. S ever the production values are superb. The production and costume design are both classy and sumptuous, but it's the photography that stands out in this regard. The music is not overbearing or low key. There is some thought provoking scripting and intrigue and some of the story compels.

The episode is also a case of the supporting cast being better than the leads, in fact the supporting cast were excellent and the supporting character writing came on quite a long way too, with the characters that could easily have been stereotypical ciphers instead coming over as real people.

Really do wish however that "Cri De Coeur" was much better than it was. This reviewer likes Helena Bonham Carter as an actress, but she never really gelled for me as Margaret who was also very underused this season. Too old. Too melodramatic and too neurotic, and it was difficult shaking off her very oddball roles that she became typecast in in the 2000s onwards (which is a shame because she showed herself to be a very good dramatic actress beforehand). Olivia Colman improved massively over the season when given very meaty material in harrowing situations, but here it was like the growth had not happened, here coming over as too firm, sour and cold.

Of all the episodes of Season 3, "Cri De Coeur" had real potential for it to be Margaret's most interesting appearance, but the real story was a good deal more compelling than the soapy and dull treatment it's given here. The story is thin and over stretched and the dialogue lacking in tautness.

In conclusion, disappointing end to a season that was pretty good in the end on the whole. 5/10.

End of a disappointing season
andynwlad15 December 2019
Helena Bonham Carter is the central actress in this final episode of what for me has been a disappointing season. The story of the breakdown of the marriage of Princess Margaret is a well documented one and HBC portrays her well as a brittle, perhaps slightly fragile and not very likeable woman, but it is easy to feel sad for the character. As for Olivia Colman as Her Majesty, I think the least said the better, I feel for her as following Claire Foy is indeed an impossible act to follow, I really don't know what the casting people were thinking, she is absolutely nothing like the Queen and basically plays herself with a wig and an unconvincing posh accent. It's taken me weeks to watch this season, where as seasons one and two were consumed as soon as they were available. On the plus side, the production and settings are just as lavish as previously, hope season 4 is better and I look forward to the recast for seasons five and six, please, please cast Helen Mirren.

Music
huntershoppers-9175230 November 2023
Hate to nitpick but I'm really disappointed with the musical selections on this one. I grew up in the 1970's and I can promise you that nobody was listening to the Zombies and doing the swim or the frug in 1977. That was the mid1960's and well over by 1970. I had to re-watch to make sure that this was supposed to be 1977. In this episode, there was lots of background psychedelic music also representative of the 60's.

Big miss for a series that has done such a great job in representing the eras. What happened here?

Overall good episode but this was not a season-ending type of episode. Helena Bonham Carter is amazing though.

For the final episofde of the season it was rather dull
Ziggy196521 January 2020
The final episode should have been the kidnapping of Princess Anne. I have read about this and the way she dealt with the kidnapper was amazing. This would have been the perfect episode to bring out some true emotions from the Queen.

Expected too much perhaps
KatooHvdW13 February 2020
Still can't decide what to make of this season. First of all I seemed to get more and more annoyed with Olivia Coleman's sour face. Compared to the first seasons, the Queen turned into such a strict, cold and miserable woman. Even when she's with Phillip, she seems to give him a polite, fake smile and when he turns away, her face turns blank again. And the way she behaves towards Charles, lecturing and belittling him etc... might be true to history but is such a drastic change in character compared to before. Also, every episode stands on it's own. If you didn't know any better, you could watch episode 6 after episode 4 and then episode 8. I had the feeling that seasons 1 and 2 were better as a whole and - like many have said - were almost impossible not to binge-watch. In this season, I could easily pause for a couple of days before watching the next episode. I loved Tobias Menzies and Josh O'Connor as Phillip and Charles! I also liked the actors that played minor roles, like Harold Wilson and princess Alice. Charles Dance is a solid and excellent Lord Mountbatten and then ofcourse there is Erin Doherty, the actress who plays princess Ann! Unfortunately, Helena Bonham-Carter was not convincing as princess Margaret, very hard after such a fabulous performance by Vanessa Kirby! I missed her pizzazz! On a positive note: I learned so much more about Charles, his youth and his struggles and personal crisisses, being the crown prince. The rest of the season was quite dull, despite spectacular events as Aberfan, the moon landing and the mine worker's strike. I just didn't care and seeing the queen's sour and at the same time blank expression the whole time, didn't help either. I've seen photos of season 4, which introduces Diana and it doesn't look promising. The actress doesn't look like Diana at all! And even though Josh O'Connor is 1000 times more handsome than Charles ever was, he really convinced me as Charles. It's sad that the quality of this show has flattened, because seasons 1 and 2 were some of the best things I've watched.

Warning: Spoilers
Great acting from the cast but Olivia Coleman as the queen is just not as interesting as Claire Foy. The season finale was perhaps the worst I've seen. Overall season 3 was a bore, no excitement at all. The next season needs Diana to revive!!

Pretty boring
josephinevaleur21 November 2019
Overall pretty boring, not just this episode but the entire season three. I loved the previous two seasons but this.... It needed something. Not just the original cast, but that special something that makes you want to stay up all night and binge watch the entire season.

.. And it was a very anticlimactic season finale. Didn't even know it was the last episode until Netflix suddenly didn't automatically pop the next one up.

I do, however, look forward to season 4, where Charles (and Anne) hopefully gets some more of the spotlight.

A sad falling off
roderick-wylie21 December 2019
This 3rd season of The Crown represented a sad falling off after the first two. Although Tobias Menzies is a credible Prince Philip, Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter are simply not credible as the Queen and Princess Margaret. They appear to be themselves playing these roles whereas their predecessors in the first two series convinced us they were who they played.

The writing, too, is very uneven, with Peter Morgan over compensating for a certain lack of drama in some of the years covered by the series bu making up or exaggerating events.

I shall not watch future series.

Not enough queen
rdmcflyers-9524720 November 2019
Just finished watching the season and overall disappointing. Olivia Coleman is a wonderful actress and very expressive but all through this season she had one expression which seemed to be one of dismay. throwing all the Margaret, Charles, Philip drama in there seemed like filler because not enough happened in the years covered. some flashes of poignancy and intimacy but just not enough. curious for season 4 and what they will cover.
