not a typical Tatort episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is an homage to Groundhog Day, but in contrast to Bill Murray Murot does not strive for true love, instead he has to solve a hostage situation in a bank. After some failed attempts Murot gets desperate, furious, and FUNNY!

Just don't expect to solve your typical Tatort murder case. This Tatort is different. And it's great!

A day in the life of Herr Murot!

Mock up from preview movies, but i must say, still a loaf of fresh air, it was indeed worth watching... Little Black Humor, little Suspense... Enought good to glue you to the story. It will make you watch till the end!

The episodes with Murot are often a bit special. This one is no exception. It's repeating segments are entertaining and with a lot of humour. This episode is quiet fast, even rushy, but in no way unvaried. It is written very smart and fun to watch.

Tatort Meets Groundhog Day - Welcome to Murot's Nightmare!
thursdaysrecords19 February 2019
Brilliantly conceived Tatort episode, the ultimate case of "deja vu". Following this fast-paced bank robbery/hostage crisis will require the viewer to suspend her or his disbelief, but it is well worth it! The screen play and music score particularly are outstanding!

Kommissar Murot, a specialist in hostage negociations, answers the call to assist with defusing an apparent bank robbery, only to live the early morning hours of the same day over and over again, always to the point of his own violent death. Each exodus is immediately followed by yet another awakening to the sound of his cell phone. With each new attempt to break the nightmare cycle, Murot learns important details about "the case", adding pieces to the puzzle.

Not long into the story, it is suggested that the bank robber suffers from a rare psychosis. This revelation is taken to another level, when Murot himself seems to be similarly afflicted. An earlier plot line of the Murot Tatort series dealt with the Kommissar being treated for a life-threatening brain tumor. The "Murmeltier" episode perfectly fits the frequent delirium of the brain cancer patient. Fans of the Murot Tatorts should not miss this one. It's easily one of the very best episodes in the series!

A nice excursion

Warning: Spoilers
"Murot und das Murmeltier" is part of the well-known German "Tatort" series. In this episode investigator Murot is caught in the same day time and again, trying to prevent a desperate man from robbing a bank.

This episode immensely differs from what you'd usually expect from this series. It is abstract, plays with supernatural elements and thus leaves the boundaries of logic and reason. It is quite clear that the concept of "Groundhog Day" was taken over 1:1 by the producers but in my opinion that does no harm. I really enjoyed the humor, was excited to see the ending and even though the solution is, as always in this series, rather mundane, I had a good time waiting for it.

All in all I enjoyed the new wind and value the bravery to air such an alternative episode. More fresh ideas would suit the series well!
