Reese Witherspoon has bent and snapped her way into a full-fledged “Legally Blonde” empire.
After playing L.A. sorority girl turned Harvard Law School student — and arguably, feminist icon — Elle Woods in 2001, Witherspoon has led sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” and is slated to star in a third film written by Mindy Kaling and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor. Kaling previously teased that the third film will center on Elle Woods reevaluating both her career and her perspective on life at age 42, telling Time magazine that she would never want the character to “be canceled or become a Karen.”
While the status of that trilogy installment is still unknown, given that the feature was announced in 2022, Witherspoon has turned instead to building out the “Legally Blonde” brand through TV.
IndieWire can confirm that a “Legally Blonde” prequel series titled “Elle” is in the works at Prime Video, with Witherspoon producing.

It’s been over two decades since Reese Witherspoon wowed us with her blonde beauty and brains in the first installment of the “Legally Blonde” franchise.
Due to the widely positive reception of the first movie, the sequel “Legally Blonde: Red, White and Blonde” followed in 2003.
This was later followed by the 2009 direct-to-video spinoff “Legally Blondes,” which served as sort of a pilot for a potential series, but this did not take.
“Legally Blonde 3” has been in the works for several years with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor working on the script, but nothing has come of it until now.

Reese Witherspoon is recalling riding out the rollercoaster of being a young Hollywood star under the male gaze.
The Hello Sunshine production company founder told Harper’s Bazaar how the infamous 1996 erotic thriller “Fear” — released when she was 20 — partly inspired her to shift her career to become an “agent for change” for women in Hollywood.
Witherspoon unpacked the iconic rollercoaster scene in which her character is fingered by the sinister love interest, played by Mark Wahlberg. Witherspoon noted that she requested a stunt double for the below-the-waist scenes; the film was directed by James Foley.
“I didn’t have control over it,” Witherspoon said. “It wasn’t explicit in the script that that’s what was going to happen, so that was something that I think the director thought of on his own and then asked me on set if I would do it, and I said no. It wasn’t a particularly great experience.

Last year, Amazon closed an $8.5 billion acquisition of the film studio MGM, giving them ownership of the studio’s thousands of films and TV shows. Now they need to figure out what to do with all of the properties they own… and in the latest episode of the podcast The Hot Mic, hosted by writer/critic John Rocha and writer/critic/reporter Jeff Sneider, Sneider revealed the six MGM properties that Amazon is most interested in doing something with. These are their top priorities: Stargate, The Thomas Crown Affair, Legally Blonde, Rocky, Poltergeist, and RoboCop.
It’s not surprising to hear that Amazon wants to keep Stargate going, as that franchise already consists of a few films and many seasons of television. Michael B. Who would you most want to travel with out of the cast of "The White Lotus?" Back when season 2 was airing, that question was posed to various actors from the hit HBO show during the behind-the-scenes previews for the next week's episode. The answer was always, without hesitation, Jennifer Coolidge. After winning a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Limited Series/Anthology or Motion Picture for her role as Tanya in "White Lotus" season 2, her moving and hilarious speech made Coolidge even more endearing. Season 3 of "White Lotus" was officially announced in November of 2022, but sadly, Coolidge won't be returning. That leaves the door open for the in-demand actor to pursue other opportunities as she enjoys her ongoing surge in popularity.

It's not time to use legal jargon in our everyday lives again? We might have to object. Legally Blonde became an instant smash when the film—starring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Matthew Davis and Jennifer Coolidge—debuted in 2001, and it's 2003 sequel didn't disappoint. So, naturally fans were far from seriously disturbed when Reese confirmed in 2020 that Legally Blonde 3 was, indeed, in the making. As for where the third installment stands now? Luke—who played Reese's love interest, Emmett, in the films—gave fans an honest update. "I think I know as much as you all," he said during the...

Mindy Kaling, cocreator of the teen drama "Never Have I Ever," has said she could never make a show like "Euphoria."
"I love 'Euphoria' and I think [creator] Sam [Levinson] is like a genius," she said in an Aug. 12 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I think he has a lot to say about things like sex and drug use and addiction and those are incredibly interesting, but we don't have a ton of experience in that," she said of herself and cocreator Lang Fisher. "I watch that show on the edge of my seat, vicariously, but I feel like nerds lusting over guys is more what we feel comfortable writing about so that's why we do this. We write about strivers and dorks and people who are underestimated."

In case you haven't heard the exciting news yet, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon are teaming up for "Legally Blonde 3!" On May 18, 2020, it was confirmed that Kaling had signed on to write the screenplay alongside Dan Goor. Witherspoon will be reprising her role as attorney Elle Woods, and the film will be produced through her Hello Sunshine studio and the franchise's original producer, Marc Platt.

For years now, Reese Witherspoon has been trying to throw her star power behind “Legally Blonde 3,” in an attempt to bring that sequel to life. After two well-received, financially successful “Legally Blonde” films, it seemed as if a third feature would happen in fairly short order. However, that hasn’t been the case. Now, years later, Witherspoon is still actively trying to make it a reality, but she’s looking at Tom Cruise’s recent ‘Top Gun’ success as inspiration for taking her time and making sure it’s just right.

What exactly does a film series like "Legally Blonde" have in common with a film series like "Top Gun"? On paper, it wouldn't seem like much. One is a Dad Film chock full of dangerous stunts and enough machismo to power a small CrossFit gym. The other is a chick flick — a darn good one, mind you — swathed in pink costumes, memorable one-liners, and a satisfying Girl Power message. But "Top Gun," like "Legally Blonde," has the power of an eternally-enthusiastic fan base on its side, one that merited a sequel almost decades after the original came out. Reese Witherspoon says that she’s looking to the massive success of “Top Gun: Maverick” on how to make sure “Legally Blonde 3” turns out right.

Waiting decades to make a sequel to a beloved movie is often a recipe for disaster, but “Top Gun: Maverick” proved that it doesn’t have to be. The blockbuster earned rave reviews from critics and brought in the biggest box office haul of Tom Cruise’s career, proving there’s a real appetite for legacy sequels done well. Reese Witherspoon is finding unexpected inspiration for Elle Woods’ next big moment.
Witherspoon spoke with USA Today for an interview published Friday, during which she teased the status of development for the long-discussed third movie in the Legally Blonde franchise. The star said she remains hopeful that the sequel will still happen and that the recent success of Top Gun: Maverick has helped spur ideas for her own film’s team.
“I’m still hoping that Legally Blonde 3 is gonna come together in the right way,” she said. “It’s just like Top Gun: They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgia piece they incorporated in it. So definitely that gave us a lot of inspiration about what we would want to do with Elle Woods and make sure that we had...

To this day, Elle Woods remains one of Reese Witherspoon's most iconic roles. We were first introduced to the beloved character two decades ago in "Legally Blonde." The film premiered in 2001, and its sequel, "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," arrived in 2003. The franchise has since gotten a spinoff movie and a musical, and, in June 2018, Witherspoon announced that "Legally Blonde 3" had been greenlit. The movie has been pushed back multiple times over the past four years, and as of now, it's been delayed indefinitely. So, what happened?
How Many Times Has "Legally Blonde 3" Been Delayed?
When Witherspoon announced in 2018 that a third installment was officially in the works, she revealed "Legally Blonde 3" would premiere on Feb. 14, 2020. According to Metro, in September 2019, the film was pushed back to May 8, 2020, instead. Well, the release date came and went and nothing happened, but considering movie theaters were...

The abrupt departure of MGM Motion Picture Group chairman Michael De Luca and the group’s president Pam Abdy sent shockwaves thoughout the film industry this week — a sign that Amazon will be putting its own stamp on the almost-100-year-old legacy studio that it acquired for 8.5 billion in March. “Nobody saw that coming,” one high-level agent told TheWrap from CinemaCon, the annual trade show for the movie theater industry. Others wondered about the direction of MGM and its deep slate of film projects in the absence of two established industry figures who’ve overseen hit franchises like James Bond, “Creed” and the upcoming “Legally Blonde 3” as well as acclaimed awards bait like “House of Gucci” and “Licorice Pizza.” And others wondered if this was a sign that MGM Worldwide Television Group chairman Mark Burnett might soon head for the exit door as well. An executive shakeup was not...

Amazon Studios and Prime Video officially welcomed MGM into their sizable Seattle home on Thursday, all for the low, low adoption rate of $8.5 billion. Will the newfangled streaming service and the near-century-old studio play nice together inside their new living arrangement?
Well, for starters, James Bond isn’t about to go straight to the small screen — so theatrical plans won’t be shaken (nor stirred) too much, one Amazon insider told IndieWire.
Amazon Studios and Prime Video (now with 100 percent more MGM!) will continue to support theatrical releases, the person who spoke with us on the condition of anonymity said, but there will not be a universal approach to deciding where a movie goes and when. Over time, leadership at the combined company will evaluate what is best on a film-by-film basis. While there will be no hard line against theatrical, there is also no window commitment in place. And...

When it comes to balancing work and home life, Mindy Kaling has got it down to a science . . . with the help of some strong WiFi. It's certainly made the showrunner and single mom "way more efficient" as she juggles taking care of two kids with Zoom auditions and virtual writers' rooms for her two shows on air, not to mention her four shows in development - and everything else it takes to grow Kaling International.
In honor of her partnership with AT&T Fiber - her WiFi connection of choice - Kaling spoke to Popsugar in December about adjusting to life after welcoming her son, Spencer, in 2020, turning to Google (and Reese Witherspoon) for parenting questions, and working on her ongoing projects: "Sex Lives of College Girls," "Never Have I Ever," and "Legally Blonde 3."
