Before starring as Jessica Jones in the MCU, Krysten Ritter was popularly known for her role in Bryan Cranston’s iconic TV series Breaking Bad. Not just that, the actress even reprised her role as Jane Margolis in Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad epilogue, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019).

Speaking about her filming experience on the 2019 sequel that followed the storyline of Aaron Paul’s Jesse, immediately after Breaking Bad, Krysten Ritter admitted to being on cloud nine about reprising her role. However, during that very interview with THR, the actress recalled her emotional Breaking Bad death scene, which she still hasn’t recovered from.

It's no secret that the production of a television show is quite strict. With a massive cast and crew that needs to be managed, and a hard deadline to meet a season premiere, they must adhere to a tight schedule that leaves as little to chance as possible.
However, TV show creators sometimes manage to deviate from the plan and inject some impromptu creativity into the filming of a scene. This can be the result of a sudden strike of inspiration on the part of the cast, the director, the writer or even the showrunner. But sometimes, this random detour away from the script comes about completely by accident. Whatever the cause, these unplanned flourishes lead to scenes that are far more real for those involved than what might have thought. Because of the added realism, these scenes tend to pack more of an emotional punch or a gut-busting laugh,...

Mutilator 2, writer/director Buddy Cooper’s long-awaited follow-up to his 1984 slasher The Mutilator (pick up a copy Here), is ready to make its way out into the world. The movie even screened at Joe Bob Briggs’ latest drive-in Jamboree event back in October, and received an “audience favorite” award there. And yet it still hasn’t secured a distribution deal. Cooper confirmed this on Facebook, where he wrote, “We are still searching for distribution. It might help if a few fans asked their favorite streaming service or theater when they would be showing Mutilator 2. If enough people show an interest, I feel like a distributor would be willing to help get it out to everyone.“

As Emmy voting comes to a close, many critics and “Better Call Saul” fans are hoping that this season’s strike-delayed award show finally brings the beloved spin-off its first trophy. This year marks the final opportunity for the Television Academy to reward the performances of Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn that form the emotional core of the show. Neither actor has won an Emmy for the series, something that many observers see as an unforgivable snub — even if competing against the “Succession” cast makes it an uphill battle.
But if Seehorn gets her way, this might not be the last nomination she receives for playing Kim Wexler. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Seehorn said that she is still holding out hope for another chance to reprise the role.
“I don’t think that I will ever forget her,” Seehorn said of Wexler.

Better Call Saul‘s final season marks the conclusion of executive producer Melissa Bernstein’s 15-year journey that began with Breaking Bad‘s pilot shoot in 2007. The celebrated AMC drama about the rise and fall of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) paved the way for the Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman-led (Bob Odenkirk) prequel-sequel series Better Call Saul and the Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul)-centric sequel movie El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019).
Considering that Breaking Bad narrowly survived the 2007-08 WGA strike with perennial low ratings until a late series Netflix bump, Bernstein remains astonished that Vince Gilligan’s mayhem-filled show went on to spawn what could be the most well-crafted shared universe to date. “It just feels like lightning in a bottle that lasted a really long time,” says Bernstein. “We’ve all pinched ourselves into bruising.”

Turns out, playing the one who knocks is a great way to notch up some Emmy votes.
“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston made Emmy history when he became the first actor from a cable series to receive three consecutive lead actor in a drama trophies for his work playing Walter White on the AMC series.
He’d eventually clock in at four total wins in that category, plus two more for best drama series due to his producer credit. The iconic character has also twice made guest appearances in the “Bad” universe — 2019’s “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” and now, alongside Aaron Paul, appearing in the final season of “Better Call Saul,” as that was when the Bob Odenkirk-led prequel finally caught up to the events in “Bad.” Adding to and re-creating moments from “Bad,” these now-guest parts filled in details of this notoriously scrupulous world.

Here’s a not-so-fun fact that will ruin your day: “Better Call Saul” has never won an Emmy. The critically lauded spin-off of “Breaking Bad” has been nominated 46 times through five and a half seasons and never once walked away a winner. With its final six episodes eligible this year, the AMC series co-created by Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan has one last chance to alter this aspect of its otherwise unblemished legacy. History tells us it’s a long shot at best — voters have proven time and again they simply don’t care about the show, which tells the tragic story of how Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) became slippery lawyer Saul Goodman — but “Better Call Saul” also has a secret weapon it never had before: former Best Drama Actor Emmy winner Bryan Cranston.

As the saying goes, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But that's not necessarily the case if you're in the middle of a studio pitch meeting. In that case, imitation might leave you quite embarrassed. That was the situation "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan found himself in when trying to sell networks on the series.
In 2005, Gilligan came up with the concept for "Breaking Bad." The germane of the idea was that a science teacher and cancer patient in need of money for treatment would use his chemistry knowledge to cook and sell meth. Gilligan pitched the idea to Sony Television, who liked the idea.
But when they went looking for a network, things got a bit dicey. That same year, Showtime debuted a show about a drug-dealing suburbanite and the family drama surrounding her. Gilligan was left to let the drugs do the talking, as Sony executives pontificated...

Bryan Cranston is setting the record straight on “Malcolm in the Middle” movie rumors.

The cast also included Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, Justin Berfield, Erik Per Sullivan, and James and Lukas Rodriguez.
“It’s a possibility,” Cranston told The Independent, adding that he spoke with series creator Linwood Boomer months prior about a possible movie. “He said he would think about it, and he got his writers together. Cranston added, “I don’t need a job. I’ve got plenty of jobs. I don’t need it, but I’d want it if it was a great idea.”

It was previously announced that The Mutilator cast members Ruth Martinez and Bill Hitchcock would be returning for Mutilator 2, despite the fact that Hitchcock’s character died in the first movie, and now the trailer has revealed how that’s possible: this sequel is taking a meta approach! Much like New Nightmare or the Town That Dreaded Sundown update, Mutilator 2 is set in a world where the first film was just a movie. But now someone is bringing the slashing of The Mutilator to life.
The original The Mutilator (a.k.a. Fall Break) had the following synopsis:
Years after the accidental death of his wife, a deranged man starts to slice and dice his son...

Heisenberg is entering the snack business.
Bryan Cranston will reprise his iconic “Breaking Bad” role in a Super Bowl ad for PopCorners, AdAge reports. The Frito-Lay brand teased the spot in December with a silhouette of Walter White standing in the desert, holding a big bag of white cheddar PopCorners.
While “Breaking Bad” ended in 2013, Cranston revived Walter White in cameos in 2019’s “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” and two episodes of the “Better Call Saul” final season, which aired in 2022.
Ahead of the Season 6 premiere of the “Breaking Bad” prequel series, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould told Variety on the red carpet, “These two worlds cross over in a way that you haven’t seen before, that’s for sure… It would be a damn shame if the show ended without [Cranston and Paul] appearing, would it not?”
This isn’t Cranston’s first foray into the food and beverage industry.

Walter White is back, but this time he’s not breaking bad–he’s breaking open a bag of “crunchy and wholesome” white cheddar snacks for a Super Bowl ad!
Breaking Bad and its anti-hero Walter White–in full Heisenberg attire–will be the star of a PopCorners in an ad that will debut during Super Lvii next year, to be held in Glendale, Arizona. That’s a nearly six-hour drive for Walter White from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The exact contents of the ad are more secret than the ingredients of Blue Sky, but will the tease (seen below) hype Breaking Bad fans up for the big game? You’re goddamn right.
In a statement, the vice president of Frito-Lays marketing said, “We are excited to revive one of the most famous television shows of all time to tell the PopCorners’ story for the first time at the Super Bowl…...

Thirty-eight years after gifting the world a really cool slasher called The Mutilator (pick up a copy Here), writer/director Buddy Cooper has finally gotten around to making a sequel to the film… and over the weekend, he took to social media to unveil the first official poster for Mutilator 2! You can take a look at the poster at the bottom of this article.
Cooper notes that “the woman bound to the nasty looking piling” on the Mutilator 2 poster is Olivia, played by Eva Hamilton of Death Kiss. Producer Jeff Seemann added that “the ocean water was in the 40s when Eva stepped into it for this scene.” So it definitely sounds like it’s a moment worth promoting on the poster.

The trailer for Apple TV+’s Raymond & Ray opens with the revelation a father’s last wish was that his sons dig his grave, which is odd but also strangely moving. Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke star as half-brothers who weren’t exactly close to each other or their dad before he died, but the trailer teases their relationship will transform as they come to terms with their father’s death.
Maribel Verdú (Now and Then), Sophie Okonedo (Slow Horses), Tom Bower (El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie), and Vondie Curtis Hall (For the People) also star in writer/director Rodrigo Garcia’s new dramedy. Garcia earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for directing the pilot of Big Love. His feature film directorial credits include 2008’s Passengers with Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson; 2009’s Mother and Child starring Naomi Watts and Annette Bening; and three-time Oscar nominee Albert Nobbs with Glenn Close.

Exclusive: Shout! Studios has acquired all North American distribution rights to the neo-Western thriller Head Count, from Continuance Pictures and Method Media. Filmmakers Jacob and Ben Burghart — together known as The Burghart Brothers — are directing in their feature debut, from their script written with Josh Doke, with Aaron Jakubenko (Tidelands), Melanie Zanetti (Raven’s Hollow) and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) set to star. Shout! Studios and the filmmakers are planning a strategic launch of the movie next year, beginning with major film festivals and film markets in 2023.
Based on the Burgharts’ 2014 short of the same name, the film billed as Blood Simple meets Memento follows Kat (Jakubenko), who, after escaping prison, finds his own revolver pointed to his head by an unknown assailant. Months before the final half-season of "Better Call Saul" aired, news broke that Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston would be reprising their "Breaking Bad" roles as Jessie Pinkman and Walter White in the prequel/sequel series. It was no big secret then and it's no big secret now, but while shooting their "Better Call Saul" parts, Paul and Cranston were on lockdown in an Airbnb and they felt like prisoners.
That's the story Paul tells in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where the now-42-year-old actor talked about slipping on the baggy clothes of the twentysomething Pinkman one last time. It makes sense that he and Cranston would be sequestered while shooting their "Better Call Saul" appearances, since they're both such well-known TV faces, with statues having also been erected in honor of their (meth-dealing?) characters in the city of Albuquerque where both shows were set and filmed.

"Better Call Saul" ended with the series finale, "Saul Gone." The prequel/sequel series told the story of James McGill and his descent into deceit and criminality. Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman was filled with heartbreak, familial trauma, and many fantastic montages. Interestingly enough, the series finale doesn't just feel like the ending to "Better Call Saul" — it feels like a definitive conclusion to the "Breaking Bad" universe that started in 2008.
"Saul Gone" plays like an episode that knows it will be the last time you see the actors portray these characters on screen, and it doesn't waste any opportunity to remind you of who they are. Throughout 11 seasons of television and one feature-length film, Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, and so many other talented writers and directors created a rich, character-driven world. One that feels like it's come to its natural end with the series finale of "Better Call Saul.

“Face the music. You walk in with your head held high, you’ll be the John Dillinger of the Metropolitan Detention Center. How bad is that?”
That was the parting advice that Saul Goodman gave Walter White in Breaking Bad’s “Granite State,” and nearly nine years later, the con artist formerly known as Jimmy McGill has taken his own counsel in Better Call Saul’s series finale, “Saul Gone.” Saul Co-creator Peter Gould wrote and directed both of the aforementioned episodes, and quite fittingly, he made sure that Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) took a roundabout way towards accepting responsibility and permanently shedding the Saul Goodman persona.
Up until the eleventh hour, Saul was on the verge of finagling a generous deal that would’ve put him behind bars for seven years in a country club prison, but he ultimately came...

In 2008, viewers were introduced to Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in Breaking Bad. Then, in 2015 came Better Call Saul, the prequel focused on Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman. And in 2019, fans got El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. With Saul ending its six-season run on August 15, there is, of course, the question of whether this is it for that world. “I feel like we probably pushed it doing a spinoff to Breaking Bad. I could not be more happy with the results. And then I did El Camino, and I’m very proud of that too. I’m starting to sense you’ve got to know when to leave the party. I don’t have any plans right now to do anything more with this universe,” co-creator and executive producer Vince Gilligan said during the show’s panel during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.

The old saying goes that hindsight is always 20/20, but if you're someone as talented as Vince Gilligan and the rest of the crew behind "Breaking Bad," your foresight may as well be 20/20, too. The stories of "Breaking Bad," "Better Call Saul," and "El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie" work in synchrony to tell one big narrative about an ensemble of interconnected characters. Walter White's drug trafficking endeavors paired excellently with Saul Goodman's criminal lawyer enterprise, with both stories culminating in an epilogue of sorts seen in the final season of "Better Call Saul" and the Jesse Pinkman-centered film "El Camino."

Vince Gilligan has been deeply embedded in the shady underworld of Albuquerque since the original "Breaking Bad" pilot aired in 2008. Since then, the writer/director has gone on to make a prequel/sequel series in "Better Call Saul" and the sequel film titled "El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie." Each project is arguably just as good as the other, which is a testament to the world that Gilligan played a significant role in creating. The "Breaking Bad" universe spans decades back to the 1970s. Interestingly enough, while we know the earliest starting point for all the most significant story points...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the 11th episode of “Better Call Saul” Season 6, titled “Breaking Bad.”
When set decorator Ashley Marsh found out “Better Call Saul” was going to revive the iconic Rv from “Breaking Bad,” she was psyched. And luckily, the original “Krystal Ship” had been kept safely stored at the Sony lot. There was only one issue: the Rv was “completely gutted on the inside.”
Now, “Breaking Bad” had always used two “RVs” — one fully functional vehicle for exterior and driving shots, and a separate soundstage for shooting the interior. To recreate that set for “Better Call Saul,” Marsh “religiously rewatched ‘Breaking Bad'” and took “8,000 screen grabs.” With careful attention to detail, the team had to replace every beaker, tub of methylamine, round-bottom flask and more. Everything we see inside the Rv on “Better Call Saul” was new.

As the race for limited series has become more competitive over the last decade, the art of the TV movie has seen an inversely proportional decline in popularity and visibility. The two formats have competed in separate categories at the Emmys since 2014 (the most recent separation), but Best TV Movie has been relegated to the Creative Arts ceremony the past two years, and it’s likely been even longer since it has been truly relevant. But the Disney+ film “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” has the power to change that.
A hybrid live-action/CG animated film based on the late 1980s cartoon about the adorable anthropomorphic chipmunks first created by The Walt Disney Company in the early 1940s, the movie features comedians John Mulaney and Andy Samberg as the voices of Chip and Dale, respectively. Spooky season is still six months away but the folks behind the “Spirit Halloween” movie – yes, the one based on the ubiquitous October pop-up store, which Variety exclusively revealed last month – have given Variety an exclusive sneak peek at the first images of Christopher Lloyd and Rachael Leigh Cook on set as well as more plot details.
In “Spirit Halloween,” Lloyd (best known as Doc Brown in “Back to the Future”) plays wealthy land developer Alec Windsor. Decades ago, one Halloween night, Windsor disappeared without a trace and ever since his cursed spirit is said to haunt the town each year on October 31 for one hour.
Meanwhile Cook (“He’s All That”) plays Sue, who has recently remarried after her husband passed away. When a Spirit Halloween store pops up in an abandoned strip mall, Sue’s teenage son Jake and his friends decide to spend the night there for a dare.

Ah! There’s the cork. The tour through Chez Goodman that began Season 6 rounded out with a lingering shot of a wayward Zafiro Añejo bottle topper, tantalizingly vague about how that hunk of metal tied into the fates of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn). In “Axe and Grind,” we get a tiny hint about whether that cork was one already kept in triumph or one kept as a reminder of a massive regret. While Jimmy’s purchase of celebratory tequila is undoubtedly premature, it is a nice full-circle moment as we head toward next week’s midseason finale. Kim and Jimmy aren’t the only ones who’ve been working to lay the groundwork for a big day.

This review of “On the Count of Three” was first published on Jan. 29, 2021, after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
“On the Count of Three” opens with two friends nervously trying to commit a joint murder-suicide, and it’s the feature directorial debut of comedian Jerrod Carmichael. Thankfully Carmichael, who also stars, never loses sight of the real pain at the story’s center, even as he’s also managing to find the laughs.
Working from a screenplay by TV writers Ari Katcher (“The Carmichael Show”) and Ryan Welch (who co-created “Ramy” with Katcher and Ramy Youssef), Carmichael already feels comfortable behind the camera, which should come as no surprise to anyone who’s seen his HBO documentary shorts about his family and childhood neighborhood. With “On the Count of Three,” he takes on a challenging mix of tones, and mostly succeeds as the story segues from the tragic...

At this year’s Grammys, Jon Batiste made history by winning Album of the Year for “We Are,” along with four other awards. But “We Are” still lost its genre category, Best R&b Album, to Jazmine Sullivan’s “Heaux Tales.” Winning Album of the Year despite losing in your genre is not a new thing — it happened last year too — as well as in two other times this century. The first was Arcade Fire at the 2010 Grammys. But what about “Babel,” which many might consider Mumford and Sons’ signature record and experienced the same unusual split?
While they might seem a bit forgotten these days, Mumford and Sons had huge success at the start of the 2010s. The band’s debut album, “Sigh No More,” was a sleeper hit, slowly gaining momentum and showing up on the year-end Billboard 200 albums chart for four years in a row (2010-2013). The...

Season 6 of “Better Call Saul” is a tiny break from tradition from the start. Rather than open on Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) living out his days as an assuming Cinnabon employee in Omaha, Nebraska, the season premiere “Wine and Roses” starts on a melancholy tour through the house he left behind. There’s a glimpse of his flashy, rainbow-colored wardrobe, lavish wall art, and a general interior decor that’s far more palatial than you might expect from the Jimmy we’ve seen over the first five seasons of the AMC series.
As the camera winds its way through inside corridors and out toward the dumpster and moving van hauling everything away, the house-clearers dispatch all of Jimmy’s things with ballet-like precision. Of course, as the episode’s cinematographer Marshall Adams describes it, that’s not a coincidence at all.

With Aaron Paul set to reprise his role as Jesse Pinkman in the final season of "Better Call Saul," it's worth noting how integral he truly is to the tragic world of "Breaking Bad." I think it's pretty wild that series creator Vince Gilligan initially flirted with the idea of bumping him off in the first season, considering Jesse feels as synonymous with "Breaking Bad" as Bryan Cranston's science teacher-turned-meth kingpin, Walter White. Paul's Emmy Award-winning performance — he won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014 — is the heart of the show, despite all...

Every previous Saul season has begun in exactly the same way, with a black-and-white flash-forward to the lonely, paranoid life of Omaha shopping mall Cinnabon manager Gene Takovic, a.k.a. Saul Goodman, a.k.a. Jimmy McGill. Since it’s been more than...

It’s another huge week for TV. This undoubtedly has to do with the deadline on Emmy nominations coming at the end of May, as the amount of heavily hyped prestige series (either return or brand new) is increasing to the point of critical mass. Just this week alone, we have the long-overdue return of “Better Call Saul,” “Russian Doll” and “The Flight Attendant,” plus a new show where huge stars get to play “The First Lady.” And documentaries documenting the life of polar bears, the career of Magic Johnson and how racist and weird Abercrombie & Fitch is. Truly, this is a golden age.
On with the television!

How would “Better Call Saul” co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould describe the series’ hotly anticipated final season?
“Fucking amazing,” Gilligan told Variety on the red carpet at last week’s premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater, while Gould offered: “Holy fucking shit.”
In a more serious tone, Gilligan added that Season 6 is “the best season yet… There’s a real argument to be made that ‘Better Call Saul’ is better than ‘Breaking Bad.'”
Bob Odenkirk teased the final season as an “evolution hard-earned,” while Patrick Fabian, who plays Howard Hamlin, described it as “excruciatingly painfully exciting.” He continued, “It’s a satisfying season. All the setups that they put up the mountain start careening down the mountain.”

If, like me, one of your favorite things to do each fall is to find and visit your local Spirit Halloween store, then you also might be excited to hear that Strike Back Studios and Hideout Pictures have finished principal photography on a Spirit Halloween movie written by Billie Bates, directed by David Poag, and featuring a cast that includes Christopher Lloyd and Rachael Leigh Cook.
The Spirit Halloween film is slated for an October release, and we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details. In the meantime, we have the official press release, including the film's synopsis:
Press Release: Strike Back Studios and Hideout Pictures continue their busy production schedule in 2022 having wrapped principal photography of “Spirit Halloween.” When a new Spirit Halloween store appears in a deserted strip mall, three middle school friends who think they’ve outgrown trick or treating make a dare to spend the...
