Eric Wallace is the newest showrunner to "The Flash", which is definitely the show's best decision in years because the last 3 seasons have felt very underwhelming in comparison to the first 2. I'm glad to say that the fun and enjoyable flash tone from the first two seasons is back in tonight's premiere.
The episode immediately starts with the destruction of Nora's video message from the fifth season finale. I liked that this is where the show decided to start off again as it gave some more emotional impact for Nora's death in regards to Barry and Iris.
After this, the show quickly moves (no pun intended) onto a storyline that takes place 4 months later in the show's timeline. The team has been trying to track down Godspeed for all of the summer, and has found 4 other versions of him. I liked that the show isn't moving away from Godspeed after his long build up during the fifth season, which led to an utterly underwhelming conclusion. I'm enjoying that he seems to be building up to be a bigger threat for the team. The actual special effects in this scene aren't too bad and look pretty decent on this show's budget.
The rest of the episode really deals with all of the emotional fallout of the season finale, with Nora's death and Cisco's powers being removed. As a big fan of the show "Heroes" (at least season 1), I loved seeing Sendhil Ramamurthy as new character Dr. Ramsey Rosso. A man overcome with grief over his mother's death, because he believed that it could have been prevented with science is interesting territory for the show and I look forward to what they do with him in the future. I don't know too much about the comic book character "Bloodwork" (who Ramsey will turn into as the episodes continue), but from what I've read online the character looks interesting and something new, which is desperately the type of villain this show has needed over the last 3 seasons.
The whole storyline with Chester and the black holes was also a good side plot for this episode, I loved the fact that the episode didn't immediately start with a villain of the week storyline, something these CW shows tend to do often. The scene with Barry running straight into the black hole was ridiculous. Ridiculously fun. With Queen "Flash Gordon" blasting over the top of the footage, I couldn't help but have a smile on my face when the scene was playing. This is the type of ridiculously corny stuff I used to love about the first two seasons, this kind of stuff seemed to have been lost over the last couple of years.
Overall, I'm very cautiously optimistic for the season ahead. The storylines being set up feel interesting and new, and the character writing is very good too. The core negative I had with the episode is the Killer Frost portion of it, which I felt wasn't entirely necessary to cram into this premiere. The premiere felt a little overstuffed, but I'd prefer that over a slow burn.

POSITIVES:
- New villain "Bloodwork" is very well acted by Sendhil Ramamurthy.
- Ralph Dibny's entrance was slick. Easily my favorite character currently.
- Corny Flash Gordon Scene.
- Chester storyline was good.
- Cecile and Joe are great together.
- I enjoy the relationship between Cisco and Kamilla.
- I like the Sue Dearbon connection being thrown in (the current missing person case that Ralph is working on).
- The monitor coming at the end.
NEGATIVES:
- Killer Frost storyline didn't work with everything else going on.
- The arguments between Caitlin and Ramsey felt a little too rushed, the friendship could have been built up over multiple episodes before Dr Ramsey brakes into a fit of rage.
