Taken 2 (2012)
7/10
Not as good as 'Taken' but still better than everyone's making it out to be!
10 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
If you want to see more of Liam Neeson kicking ass and killing everything in sight then this is the film for you! Although... there are problems... 'Taken 2' isn't as good as 'Taken', it's the same sort of thing just minus the prostitution storyline and the adrenaline rush the first one provided. 'Taken 2' has some very choppy camera work, especially in the fighting scenes. The storyline is also not as strong... but... it's still an enjoyable action flick as Liam Neeson's bad-ass presence makes this film worth watching, without him this film wouldn't be half as enjoyable. I enjoyed more than I thought I would after reading other reviews. 7/10

Tower Block (2012)
7/10
There are issues but overall it's a good film
26 September 2012
'Tower Block' is a good thriller. Its got an original premise, a good cast but the whole motive for the sniper is a bit much, I wont spoil it but it just wasn't believable. The film also had a few continuity issues, not extremely major but very obvious. The film will also probably only appeal to a British audience due to it's setting, characters and dialogue.

Overall 'Tower Block' is an average thriller but it's still enjoyable due to it's interesting and original premise and the fairly good acting. So despite the issues and I'd still give it a go as I'd doubt you will be disappointed.

The Watch (I) (2012)
7/10
Did I watch the same thing? It WAS good!
31 August 2012
'The Watch' has been poorly reviewed and everyone seems to be disappointed with it, but I wasn't. I enjoyed it. 'The Watch' WAS actually funny, it made me laugh then the majority of modern comedies, which are usually poor. The cast is brilliant. 'The Watch' has four strong lead actors, Jonah Hill & Richard Ayoade being the strongest, Ben Stiller being the weakest and Vince Vaughn is better then usual. The narrative and premise is fun and the aliens actually look good (from a design perspective). Overall 'The Watch' is a fun, crude, rude comedy that's better than the majority, but overall to most people it's either a hit or a miss, I'd definitely recommend it, at least give it a try.

The Possession (I) (2012)

Dull, boring, unimaginative, just watch 'The Exorcist'
31 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
'The Possession' was incredibly boring, I found myself almost falling asleep. The film's dull, unimaginative and has no substance whatsoever. The film is cliché and really just took too long to 'get into it' and by the time it did I had already lost interest. The acting is the only good part about this film really, apart from the Jewish guy who was hard too take seriously (you'll see what I mean). The editing is the most annoying thing about this film; it's very choppy and unorganised. The film will have an incredibly loud scene which will then cut to a silent scene and then a cliché horror movie soundtrack plays, this annoyed me so much. It probably happened over five times. Also the film isn't even scary, which really does just say it all, honestly I wouldn't bother with 'The Possession' it's dull and lifeless, you're better off watching the actual Exorcist.

Safe House (2012)
6/10
A 'popcorn flick' and nothing more
4 August 2012
'Safe House' is a 'popcorn flick', meaning it's just light entertainment. The film is basically non-stop action, with a basic story/narrative around it 'Safe House' follows all typical action film conventions so don't expect anything amazing or unique, there's a not-so-predictable twist within as well. The film contains average acting from all, although I do think Denzel Washington was the best. The film also has good cinematography, using quick, short shots to keep the viewer engaged with the action. Basically 'Safe House' is average, don't expect anything amazing but it's good for gunfights, car chases and fights in general.

Lockout (2012)
7/10
Occasionally cheesy but overall decent
4 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
'Lockout' surprised me, I read previous reviews by critics and audiences and they weren't brilliant but I thought it was alright. 'Lockout's' average as a whole, the film's full of more or less non-stop action, which is great if you want to watch a 'popcorn flick', if you're looking for something more in-depth then this isn't it. 'Lockout' has a very basic and unoriginal premise, it has a decent cast that all perform to a decent standard, although if Guy Pearce wasn't in this film I probably wouldn't have watched it, he does save this film with his cheesy one liners and his 'I'm to cool for this' attitude. The CGI was poor, which is probably due too its low budget. There's this one car chase sequence at the beginning which looked absolutely dreadful.

As a whole I enjoyed 'Lockout', it's cheesy but has a retro feel which makes it okay. It's great as a 'to kill time' movie but if you're looking for something to really get your teeth into then I wouldn't watch this.

The perfect ending for a perfect trilogy
3 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
'The Dark Knight Rises' is a brilliant film, the acting is top notch with everyone giving it their all, especially Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy who stood out the most. The films effects are great, creating a realistic Gotham City. The narrative/story is well constructed and produced which includes some twists along the way. The film also ties in some sub-story lines and hints at other things that are known for being in the Batman universe, such as Robin, which is great. The characters are developed brilliantly, making them believable and engaging.

The premise of the film is also great as it focuses on topics such as ethical, social and political issues rather than mindless action and explosions which are usually featured in Superhero films. Terrorism is also a big part of the film, which is portrayed through Bane perfectly. 'The Dark Knight Rises' also focuses more on the character Bruce Wayne rather than his Batman persona, which was surprising but in a good way as it's different to the typical, cliché superhero film.

'The Dark Knight Rises' is overall my favourite film of 2012 so far, it accomplishes everything possible for the Batman universe/franchise even if it was a bit too long. Christopher Nolan and the cast have done a great job at telling the dark side of Batman. I strongly recommend this film! Also if you're wondering I do believe that Heath Ledger's (R.I.P) performance as the Joker is better than Tom Hardy's as Bane, although both are brilliant. I also believe that both films are equally as good as they tell different chapters of Batmans life perfectly.

Ted (2012)
7/10
Brilliant but something was missing
3 August 2012
I was extremely hyped for Ted. It looked great and it was, just something was missing. The film's hilarious and has you laughing frequently. It's full of MacFarlane's typical Family Guy/American Dad humour, which can be too offence for some and I'm sure this film is. Ted also had a plot, surprisingly which was unoriginal and slightly too serious considerings its premise. Ted also has some great cameos. To quickly round up this review all I'm going to say is the film's great but it has its flaws. Some of the jokes are a hit or miss but the film's overall the second funniest film I've seen all year (First being 21 Jump Street)so I recommend it.

Brings back a great series!
30 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
We all know "The Final Destination" AKA "Final Destination 4" was terrible and had a bad concept, "Final Destination 5" gladly does not. FD5 (Final Destination 5) brings back the suspense factor of the series, making none of the deaths predictable unlike previous films in the series. FD5 also has a few twist and turns along the way, making the film unpredictable. FD5 also has a great new concept (SPOILERS) where if you kill someone you take their life, meaning you can cheat death easier but you only live until the person that you killed would have died originally. The film also has a very unpredictable ending, which is appreciable.

Overall FD5 is a step up from the rest and if you liked the series you should like this and if you haven't seen any of the others this is a good one to start with as the story is explained well. Either way I recommend this. 6.5/7 out of 10

Amazing! That is if your the right age.
24 August 2011
The four Inbetweener boys; Will, Simon, Niel & Jay have just finished their A-Level's and are going to go on a "Lad's holiday" to celebrate. The film takes place in Greece and as you can probably guess is filled with rude humour all the way through, personally I laughed almost every minute. There was a joke that often and half of them you couldn't see coming. Now I recommend having some knowledge of the show and the characters before watching this as you might miss the whole concept and you might not understand the characters as well as others. Another thing is that it seems the older you are the less you enjoy the film as this films main audience is teens and young adults, just like the show. If you don't like the show DO NOT watch this as you probably won't enjoy it, although I found it better then the show, so if your open minded maybe you will! Overall I loved this film and can't wait too see it again. 10/10!

Halloween (2007)

Halloween (2007)
30 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Well if you have seen the original Halloween you'll understand the basic story and plot of this film, I personally haven't seen the original (but I want to). This film shows the dark, unhappy childhood of Michael Myers who becomes mentally unstable, it starts off by him killing small animals for enjoyment. Then Michael snaps he starts killing people and it flashes forward to when he's about twenty-five years old and goes on a killing- spree. This is one of those basic horror films which are aimed primarily at Teens (Contains a lot of sex and bad language). I also thought I would mention it contains full-frontal female nudity (Just in case your wandering if it's suitable for your child/teen). I personally recommend this film as I thought it told the story very well and had good action scenes etc. I recommend this for 15+ even though it's an 18 and I hope you enjoy the film as much as I did. 8/10

Rather Average
26 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The Final Destination, the forth part of the series and possibly the worst. As I watched this film I found that it was very random as this time it was set on a speedway (race track)instead of a plane, car crash or roller coaster which were all much more believable. As usual the main character has a vision of what's going to happen and saves a bunch of people who all end up dying later on, but with this film the deaths are just completely random and disappointing and in real life would be impossible.

I watched this film in 2-D as it was late but my friend said the 3-D was disappointing so I'll take his word for it.

Overall I think this film was random and could not compete with the other three, it's probably worth a watch but don't get your hopes up.

Final Score - 6/10

I never knew this was out.
26 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Observe and Report Stars Seth Rogen as Ronnie Barnhardt and Anna Faris as Brandi. Observe and Report is a story about a rude, not all there security guard who lives to protect his shopping mall. This film is basically a rude and not well known version of Paul Blart: Mall cop. Both films have the same sort of story were a low life security guard falls in love with a female security guard and something happens in Paul Blart's case the mall is taken over by robbers and in Ronnie Barnhardt's case a crazed streaker wreaks havoc on all female customers. Personally I think they were both good films but I preferred this one as it was funnier and seemed more epic as Ronnie Barnhardt's struggle to catch the streaker was quite hilarious. Also comparing this to Paul Blart Observe and Report (15) was made for a older crowd whilst Paul Blart: Mall Cop (PG) was made to be a family film.

My conclusion is that even though I had never heard of this film it was still highly enjoyable and funny and I recommend it to any Rogen or comedy fans.

Final Score 8/10

Jason's back for the 12th time..
26 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The Friday the 13th series continues this time with part 12. In 1980 Jason's mother killed all who trespassed on the grounds of Camp Crystal Lake, but eventually it backfires and she is killed by one of the trespassers (beheaded with a mace)so her son Jason completes the dirty work and vows to kill all who come near so what happens? Well to start the film off a young group of people (early 20's)go out camping in search for some drugs to sell, and unluckily for them they decide to stop at Camp Crystal Lake, so one by one they are all killed.

20 minutes into the film and second lot of young adults show up and stay at one of their father's summer house, which just happens to be on Crystal Lake ground. The young group run into a guy called Clay Miller who is searching for his missing sister (Jared Padalecki - Supernatural)but little does he know his sister was in fact one of the people from the first group and has been held captive by Jason for a month underground. Will Clay Miller save his sister and survive? And Will this be the last of Jason? (watch the film to find out more)

My Opinion - I have currently watched this film twice and decided to buy this film on DVD (£3) and to be honest I enjoyed it. It contains a good blend of action, slight horror and survival. I personally recommend this film if you like horrors and gore. *This film contains several minutes of female nudity*

All in all I give it a 8/10

+ Good Story + Believable Acting + Not too much Horror + Good Atmosphere - Some deaths are a bit basic

Avatar (2009)
7/10
A little bit Over rated...
26 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Out of all my friends I was the last to see this film, I was told that it was amazing, unmissable, ten stars!. So I finally decided to see it, my first thoughts were "this is quite good" but as time went my opinion of the film dropped slightly, as I felt it lasted a bit too long (155 Min's). But apart from the film being a bit too long I thought it was a great blend of good acting, action and drama.

So I have told you my opinion now for a bit of the story, Avatar is based on a planet called Pandora which is inhabited by many beautiful creatures and these sort of blue alien like beings. The humans have found a way to land on the planet and then build machines where they use this thing that gives them an avatar which is in the form of a Navi (blue alien creatures)to learn about their way of life, this is were the main character comes in (Jake Sully) played by Sam Worthington. Jakes mission is to explore Pandora and gain the trust of the Navi, but ends up falling for one of the Navi, and decides to stop what he's doing. Over time the army (human) learns that Jake Sully is a traitor and declares war on the Navi. I won't continue any more as I will eventually ruin the complete story.

Avatar is now currently on DVD and I picked up my copy for £9, it is worth a watch and most peoples opinions vary.

My final score is - 7/10 + Good Acting + Beautiful Scenery + Awesome Creatures - Too long - A bit predictable
