Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Here we go again and again and again and again and again and again
To be fair; I couldn't sit through the whole thing. It was so over done and boring. Everything is so predictable and trite. Plus Ben Affleck as batman is just horrible.
Didn't we just have a bunch of batman movies. When will the superhero craze end.
Overall there have just been so many superhero movies that I just don't care anymore. They are all the same. they all end the same and are just written to placate the masses.
Remember at one time Superheros and comic were for kids. No the level of maturity and intelligence in America is so low, Kids movies are the new norm for adults.
Super boring, Super repetitive, Super Lame, Super Affleck, Super done with these trite, pedestrian, money grabbing attempts at movie making.
Movies like this are like fast food; mass produced and tasteless.
Enjoy
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
This movie is the fast food burger to the American obesity problem...
Spoilers Spoilers Spoilers
First a quiz for fans: Which movie am I talking about?
-A droid is carrying super secret information that is wanted by an evil army of storm troopers.
-A new young Jedi is orphaned on a desert planet.
-This new young Jedi seeks out a Jedi master who is alone on a green watery planet somewhere.
-There is a bad guy in a mask who is not really the main bad guy but he talks to the main bad guy on a holo machine.
-There is a giant round planet blower up machine that gets blown up.
-One of the main characters gets stabbed by a light saber and killed by the bad guy in a mask on the round blower up machine.
-There is a evil army and a rebellion, or resistance, or whatever you wanna call it.
-Its a 2 hour movie about blowing up the "death Starkiller".
And the answer is...
This film was purely masturbatory fan fiction. No characters, no plot, no development. Just $$$$$$. The smell of Disney's money hungry, no risks, no originality style editing is all over this pile.
Sure the prequels sucked Jar Jar's taut nipples but at least they were something new.
I thought to myself did I really just watch another 2 hour movie about blowing up the death star.
And when Darth Teenage Angst took his mask off I laughed out loud. Nice wig fanboy. What's next we find out the new emperor (oh I mean Snape) is a virgin with a neckbeard.
Not enough room here to discuss the obvious plot holes, bad one liners, stupid CGI characters, and bad acting. You can see them yourselves.
Sometimes its fine to just let a good movie be a good movie. We don't have to make sequels and reboots and remakes of everything so bored, boring people can relive their childhoods.
Lucy (2014)
What a let down
I used to really like Luc Besson. I enjoy Scar Jo. Still a movie has to be held to some standards.
Lucy fails in almost every sense. It has no character development. The plot is thin and ridiculous. The actions of all the "characters" are unrealistic and dull. There is no life to the entire story.
The script is predictable and stupid. Don't get me wrong I think the premise was a very interesting idea and could have been turned into a great Sci Fi film. But this "movie", it was like they tried to make it as horrible as possible.
Morgan freeman plays himself in a car commercial. Scarlett is mono- toned to death and dull. Nothing like her performance in She which was far more lifelike without even seeing her face. Under The Skin was better as well. The Best actor was Choi Min-Shik, and even he was a snooze.
The movie is just cheesy from the start. I just made it to the end. These are the days when Sci Fi does not exist. They are all action movies.
Luc Besson is done. The sooner he stops making movies the better.
Skip this. Boring, poorly directed, and abominably stupid.
Dune (2000)
Unwatchable drivel
This "version" of Dune has all the qualities of a Sci Fi original. Poor casting, horrible acting (think high school play), bad effects, cheesy dialogue, and just a trashy unoriginal feel to it. The costumes look like something my grandmother pinochle team would wear to a square dance.
I tried as best I could to sit through this piece, but alas, it could not be done. Maybe if I was 8 and knew nothing about quality cinema.
The fact that this has such a high rating on IMDb speaks about the quality of American Cinema these days.
If you liked the books or the Lynch movie do not watch this.
OMG the acting is so bad.
Srpski film (2010)
Here we go again....
Very graphic and disturbing. Many will immediately write this movie off for those reasons. They are not separating personal feeling for honest movie opinions. The very fact that a movie made you feel such emotions says something about the quality of production.
The trick that was pulled of in this film is that the director gives us like-able characters. The main character Milos, is very charismatic and appealing and his wife is sweet and gorgeous.
I have seen all of the shocking movies from Nekromantik, Faces of Death, Snuff, Cannibal Holocaust, Irreversible, Salo, Antichrist, etc.... I think this was the most disturbing of the lot. Mainly because the characters were so like-able.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
A crappy middle to the crappiest trilogy ever filmed
Just utter crap. I loved the LOTR and this garbage makes the other films look bad. If I watched these first I would not watch LOTR.
It seems as if Peter Jackson watched nothing but James Cameron and Micheal Bay films in the time between the LOTR and this garbage.
The story stinks the CGI is CGI the acting, the plot, the action scenes are deplorable and cheesy. Just complete garbage.
If you enjoyed this movie please, please, get help. Serious help.
Goodbye LOTR, goodbye Hobbit, your bodies have been raped for every last cent! Peter Jackson is done.
OVer!!!
Gentlemen Broncos (2009)
A movie that actually made me laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First off, I don't like comedies. They are not funny. I despise the Will Ferrel type movies (Anchorman, balls of fury, Talladega, etc) so called "humor" of that type that is not funny at all but just a bunch of repeated idiot jokes. That is corporate comedy. Its not even funny unless somebody tells you that it is. But with Americans inability to think with the slightest inkling of originality, it is no wonder they are so popular. The masses are.....
This movie made me actually laugh. It was funny. The funniest movie I had seen in a long time. I find myself repeating some of the lines form it. IT is not a serious movie, Most movies that come out are not serious movies. Better sci-fi than the Bunger Games.
The acting was hilarious and the faces of some of the actors were amazing. Sam Rockwell is excellent in his dual roles.
I thought it better than Napoleon Dynamite.
You can dislike this movie, but that only makes you a square in my book.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
What the F&^% happened
So I am not the biggest fantasy epic, sword and sorcery fan. I did however enjoy the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The huge scale of it was impressive and the story was relatively close to the originals as far as I could remember.
So I rented the Hobbit remembering the fun of the Trolls, the goblin capture, the riddling. All the good stuff.
What I got was a poorly, poorly crafted piece of crap that was made without care or quality. Just for laughs and fun.
I shut this off before even finishing it. It was completely ridiculous. essentially it was one long action sequence where all the midgets, sorry, little people should have died. I bore little resemblance to the books and even introduced a new villain that was throughout the movie. WTF!
Apparently the fame went to Peter Jackson's head and now he is pumping gout the same trite crap as James Cameron.
Skip this at all costs. For this movie is truly the death of all Middle Earth!
Only God Forgives (2013)
Great movie for great minds. This is not for you.
When I heard Nicolas Winding Refn had a new film coming out I got excited. When I heard it was horrible and was getting bad reviews I got even more excited.
You see in America 27 million people eat at McDonald's every day. Half of all American drink soda pop everyday. The best selling hits and album are the ones with the lowest musical quality. Same thing with books, the triter, more clichéd, and idiotic; the better it sells.
Based on these fact, I pretty much know that if a movie contains anything but the most obvious and clichéd storytelling, the most boring and simple cinematography, and the rest of the gimmicks to fool the tooled masses, it will be berated.
I thoroughly enjoy this movie from the first second to the last. It does contain ultrviolence which I don't mind. The whole surreal imaging is less about being realistic and more about expression and stylizing the iconic ideas. I can see the direct connection here with another great Refn movie Valhalla Rising.
If you are a tool, if you could sit through Transformers, Fast and Retarded, or watch kids movies; you will not like this. Nor should you review it. That would be like review a book in another language you don't read.
This is not for you.
Man of Steel (2013)
Super flop!!!!!
First off I am not super hero movie fan. I did however enjoy all of Zach Snyder's other films. This one however, was lacking too much.
When the final fight scene arrived I realized I just didn't care anymore and shut the movie off.
The character's are shallow and lack and real characteristics. Deux ex machine is ever present. I would say this movie is just a miss with really no redeeming qualities.
I liked the idea of trying to modernize the superman story but why all the stupid alien invasion, spaceship crap.
I'd rather watch a bird, or a plane. No, its a really boring , predictable movie with more plot holes that Swiss Cheese The Movie!
Prometheus (2012)
A boring and trite try
Although it starts with a alright (but clichéd) premise , Prometheus quickly loses sight of its goal and become a dis-articulated mess of ridiculous tries at action. there is no message, no ideas. A very very very very badly done film. I would rather watch my own feces swirl around the toilet bowl. Glad I did not pay anything to see this movie. The twists are so contrived and obvious. The whole film stinks. Do not watch.
Why do the scientists completely ignore any type of method. The "robot" character seems to do whatever he wants. No one asks him questions. Why did they even bother. I pray there will be no sequel, for all of mankind.
The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (2009)
Yeeee Haaaaa White Trash Party Time
I first scanned by this movie while staying at a hotel. At first while channel flipping I thought it was a bad episode of cops. Only after further viewing did I realize it was much much worse.... and better.
Although the documentary format leaves something to be desired, the subjects fill the time with their crazy lifestyles. No real way to describe the documentary.
One strange phenomenon is that the young kids are much smarter than the adults. The adults have fried their brains on drugs for so many years that some of them can barely talk.
Check it out.
"They took her baby. Prolly cause they found drugs in it."
Sanshô dayû (1954)
One of the 100 Greatest Films of All Time
Gripping. Poetic. Sorrowful and bold. The story in Sansho is as classic as it is tragic. It reminds us of the patience and determination of our ancestors. As the family is split apart they cope in different ways. Rebellion. Joining the enemy or simply losing ones mind.
Each character is perfectly portrayed.
Several times through the movies me and the person I watched it with stopped and marvel at the beauty of the scenes.
The ending although final is full of regret and sorrow. It reminds us that even when things do work out it is almost not how we want it to be.
Valhalla Rising (2009)
A Surprise
I clicked on this movie on netflix to have some background noise while doing other things (I know a bad habit but I never do it with real movies) and to my surprise this turned out to be an intriguing little film.
First off, I am a fan of slow paced movies (Tarkovsky). I know most Americans and American films can't go more than two minutes without something being shot, hacked or exploded. And clicking on the title without reading about the film that is what I expected.
This film held me entranced from opening to end. I was expecting another 13th warrior or some other god awful viking crap but instead I found a beautifully cast and cut film with little dialog.
Each word said in this film is important. The themes delve into religion, God, inevitability, fate and destiny. It is bleak and stark with scenes running from gorgeous to brutal and vicious.
My most pleasant surprise of the year!
Det sjunde inseglet (1957)
One of the 100 greatest films of all time
A Bittersweet story of humanity, self sacrifice and humor set during the black death.
A Knight, very young Max Von Syndow, returns from the crusades with his faithful squire in tow. They run into numerous encounters in a very changed land. The fear of God, the Devil and the black death has warped the countryside into a surreal and dangerous local.
The Knight plays an ongoing game of chess with death all the time questioning his beliefs and asking question about the existence of God.
I fell in love with this movie in when I was about 16. I'm twice that age now and still consider this one of my favorites.
Ugetsu monogatari (1953)
One of the greatest 100 films of all time
This movie presented a great storyline. It was visually stunning and did not seem dated. The fact that this was made in 1953 shows how far behind most western cinema was (and arguably, still is). Good performances by the cast. All the story-lines weave a little and extract to the inevitable conclusion.
Although, several of the themes presented seem, to the modern view, a tad clichéd, this movie still stands strong and explores the human condition. Greed, ambition, shame, war and greed all rear ugly heads here and in the end the characters are humbled by their experiences.
Overall an all around wonderfully filmed story. One of the greatest 100 films of all time.
Blood Freak (1972)
You must see this movie
I know many people say that "this" or "that" is the worst movie ever made but Bloodfreak reigns supreme without question. I have suffered, slaved and piled through countless bad films, cult classics and flops.
After a single viewing years ago, my friends still quote the movie over and over again. The scientists are incredible, the turkey head costume amazing as the story unrolls like old fruit leather.
Then we come to the narrator, chain smoking and obviously read from cue cards, he coughs and clears his throat.
If you enjoy bad movies, steer clear. If you want to take it to the next level, find a copy of Bloodfreak. You will never be the same again.
Avatar (2009)
I would have walked out..... Boring and predictable, For the brainless masses
Avatar. Another exploitive attempt to rape Americans of their money, culture and dignity.
I would have walked out had I not been there with a group.
The story was completely predictable, clichéd and boring. The action was generic and predictable. The characters flat and predictable. The CG and 3d boring and predictable. Did I mention this movie was boring and predictable.
Boring and Predictable... and probably perfect for American movie goers. I know people will give this movie all the predictable praise. Any movie, no matter how bad, will do good in America if given enough hype and explosions.
This is the generic filth that leaves the country flat and unimaginative.
"Why would people watch that?" "Because its on TV!"
There Will Be Blood (2007)
One of my top five of all time, For Film viewers not movie goers
There Will Be Blood. Chilling, Sublime, perfect.
First I must say the Soundtrack is amazingly disturbing and sets the tone of the film from the first scene. Many forget the amount of mood that sound sets.
The film held me enraptured from first to last second.
The story is perfectly displayed. Ever thing is laid out before the viewer in an intentional pace.
The film is for viewers with imagination and foresight who can see through the shams of modern movie plot and into the realm of literature.
The acting is simply stunning. Daniel Day Lewis can portray lines with a single expression and does in this film.
I'm sure many will not enjoy this movie and all I have to say to them is go watch Transformers 2 again.
Stalker (1979)
One of my top five of all time
A Sci-fi Movie in the truest sense of the word.
Every second is a piece of art, every moment (and there are many of them) a perfectly executed cinema-graphical moment.
Many find this film a bit long winded. Tarkovsky makes the watcher suffer along with the characters. As they ride the monotonous train you too are sunk into the long boring views that they have. (boring is not bad if used properly).
As the Stalker leads the group closer into the zone we begin to see the characters resolve crumble. Finally, the ending is divine leaving the viewer with as many question about himself as answers to the movie.
8½ (1963)
One of my top five of all time
One of my five favorite movies of all time. A perfect blend of imagery, magic cinematographic and story. Fellini seems to have hand chosen every single face in the entire picture. A day dreamy jaunt into the mind, imagination and history of a movie director and the pressures on him to create art with or without inspiration.
From opening sequence to closing this film holds your attention with scene after scene of beauty and grace. Of all Fellini's Films this one holds a special place in my heart.
Not for movie goers, This film will challenge and enlighten the viewer to a deep level of film making that portrays as many aspects of the characters as of the director. And in fact maybe of the viewer.
This film reminds one of those lost childhood daydreams.
Vargtimmen (1968)
One of my top five of all time
My favorite of all Bergman films (although it close).
Of all the Bergman films I've seen this one struck a chord in me. The solitude, the intimacy, the horror and eventual breakdown of the mind of the artist. The pace of the movie is timed with the precision of a master craftsman, slowly rolling out the story and reveling bits of plot just when needed.
The horrors unveiled in the final scenes are chilling and mind twisting. Max Von Syndow does a great job here establishing himself as a true master of the craft.
My tastes tend to run contrary to the popular views.
