1. Into the Woods (2014)

PG | 125 min | Adventure, Comedy, Drama

69 Metascore

A witch tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree.

Director: Rob Marshall | Stars: Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt

Votes: 148,045 | Gross: $128.00M

Just when you think Meryl can't top herself, she does. I had no idea of her singing range, having only heard her in Mama Mia. She hit it out of the park on this one as did the entire cast. The film based on the hit play, runs much faster than the play which is rather long and slow. Who knew Chris Pine was hot and could sing. This will be a film I will buy on Blu Ray for home viewing where I can crank up the sound

2. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

PG-13 | 121 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

76 Metascore

A group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe.

Director: James Gunn | Stars: Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana

Votes: 1,273,516 | Gross: $333.18M

I had no expectations going into this, in fact I saw it by pure chance as the film we were intending on seeing was sold out. I'm glad we picked this one as a replacement. Very funny, good story and great soundtrack. One of the better sci fi action films to come out after a decade of Transformer crap.

3. Non-Stop (2014)

PG-13 | 106 min | Action, Mystery, Thriller

56 Metascore

An air marshal springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages demanding $150 million into an off-shore account, or someone will die every 20 minutes.

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra | Stars: Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery

Votes: 276,565 | Gross: $92.17M

Edge of your seat the entire running time. I loved this move, one of the best action thrillers I have seen in a long time. Whenever you can't predict the ending you have something and this film has it. It was great to see Downton Abby star Michelle Dockery in a major film and in such a different role than Lady Mary.

4. And So It Goes (2014)

PG-13 | 94 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

38 Metascore

A self-absorbed realtor enlists the help of his neighbor when he's suddenly left in charge of the granddaughter he never knew existed until his estranged son drops her off at his home.

Director: Rob Reiner | Stars: Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton, Sterling Jerins, Annie Parisse

Votes: 15,284 | Gross: $15.16M

This is cute little film, more of a indie type film that would be good to take your parents to. Keaton and Douglas have a good chemistry and there are some surprises in the film that I didnt expect. It's nice to see Douglas back in action after his cancer battle, Keaton looks great and does a bit of singing as well.

5. Interstellar (2014)

PG-13 | 169 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

74 Metascore

When Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, is tasked to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers, to find a new planet for humans.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Mackenzie Foy

Votes: 2,100,634 | Gross: $188.02M

Wow, where to start. I would put this film on the level of 2001. A very complicated film that you have to pay close attention to. This is a thinking movie more than an CGI fest like the horrible "Gravity". I guess I would say it is epic, but if you suffer from ADD you may have trouble keeping up with the plot.

6. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

PG-13 | 130 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

79 Metascore

The fragile peace between apes and humans is threatened as mistrust and betrayal threaten to plunge both tribes into a war for dominance over the Earth.

Director: Matt Reeves | Stars: Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Andy Serkis, Kodi Smit-McPhee

Votes: 469,236 | Gross: $208.55M

If you are an Apes fan then you will like this film. The special effects are incredible and the social and political subplots of the film are especially relevent in our current times. An even better film than the first in the new series.

7. The Other Woman (2014)

PG-13 | 109 min | Comedy, Romance

39 Metascore

After discovering that her boyfriend is married, Carly meets the wife he's been betraying; when yet another affair is discovered, all three women team up to plot revenge on the three-timing S.O.B.

Director: Nick Cassavetes | Stars: Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Votes: 150,102 | Gross: $83.91M

I laughed my butt off at this movie, great chemistry between the leads and a fun chick flick plot with plenty of good laughs and physical comedy.

8. Godzilla (2014)

PG-13 | 123 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

62 Metascore

The world is beset by the appearance of monstrous creatures, but one of them may be the only one who can save humanity.

Director: Gareth Edwards | Stars: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe

Votes: 440,948 | Gross: $200.68M

I loved this movie, it was a great start to a new reboot of the franchise. Good story and special effects, if your a Godzilla fan and have been waiting for an actual good Godzilla movie, this is it!

9. Jersey Boys (2014)

R | 134 min | Biography, Drama, Music

54 Metascore

The story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Seasons.

Director: Clint Eastwood | Stars: John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza

Votes: 36,568 | Gross: $47.03M

A great film version of the broadway musical. Fast paced, great editing and overall concept. The music was great and the performers top notch.
