2023 - TSBK filmdagbok

Kun få plasser, men som oftest god plass i benkeradene. Klassikere jeg ikke har sett, eller kanskje har sett en gang for lenge siden, men glemt, prioriteres.

Atter et år er omme og det er tid for ettertanke og årsoppgjør. For Torsnes Stasjonære Bygdekinos del har det vært kvantitativt vært et rikt år, men hva med kvaliteten?
Jeg kommer tilbake til det, men først fasit. Samlet tid brukt på film og serier i 2023 er lik 28569 minutter, eller omsatt til timer, 476 timer og 9 minutter. Til sammenligning var årets timebruk 361 timer og 56 minutter i 2022. Det betyr rundt regnet, 115 flere timer i fjor, og dermed den høyeste tidsbruken etter at jeg begynte å føre timeregnskap i 2020. I 2022 var det imidlertid VM i fotball og det påvirket tidsbruken i og med at tid brukt på fotball eller annen sport på skjermen naturlig nok ikke føres i dette regnskapet. I 2023 har jeg også vært gjennom perioder med begrenset mobilitet og slikt bidrar selvsagt også.
Vi begynner med noen av de nye filmene som har gjort sterkest inntrykk på meg i året som gikk. 2023 startet knallsterkt på kinofronten med den belgiske Close (2022), regissert av Lukas Dhont. Filmen skildrer overgangen mellom barndom og ungdom på hjerteskjærende vis, men samtidig varmt og gjenkjennbart også for en som meg uten de store barndomstraumene å bære på. Blant andre sterke inntrykk gjorde Darren Arronofskys The Whale (2022), Wes Andersons Asteroid City (2023), og på tampen av året Sam Esmails Leave the World Behind (2023). Sistnevnte er mannen bak serien Mr. Robot (2015-19) og han tegner også her et dystert bilde av en verden som tiden er i ferd med å renne ut for. Om Gutten og hegren (2023) er siste film fra den japanske giganten Hayao Miyazakis hånd, våger jeg ikke å si. Det er lov å håpe på mer fordi han fortsatt er i stand til å skape nye fantastiske verdener og karakterer. En ekstra bonus var at jeg fikk se den på kino i Tromsø med en virkelig Miyazaki-elsker, datteren min Irma. Vi fikk også med oss en annen stor kinoopplevelse på Verdensteateret i Tromsø, først og fremst på grunn av kinoen, selv om et gjensyn med filmen It´s a Wonderful Life (1946) også passet perfekt i førjulstiden. Verdensteateret har vært i drift siden 1916 og jeg håper at det vanligvis ikke er så god plass i benkeradene som da vi var der. Dette er et smykke av en kino som Tromsøværingene virkelig må ta vare på. Et annet gjensyn var Chantal Akermans Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975) som Fredrikstad filmklubb satt opp i forbindelse med at den rykket opp til førsteplass på Sight and Sounds topp 100.
En annen veteran som fortsatt holder koken er Martin Scorsese. Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) skuffet ikke, men fikk meg til å føle et savn etter flere fortellinger fra den amerikanske urbefolkningens perspektiv og synsvinkel - les mer om Killers of the Flower Moon her - https://rbwkreutz.wixsite.com/kinofil/post/storfilm-fra-scorsese-med-forbehold
Det var noen av kinoopplevelsene.
Jeg fikk også sett filmer som lenge har vært på må-se-listen hjemme i TSBK (også her med god plass i benkeradene):
Apu-trilogien i regi av Satyajit Ray, Pather Panchali (Sangen om veien, 1955), Aparajito (Den ubeseirede, 1956) og Apu sansar (Apus verden, 1959). I likhet med italienske Vittorio De Sica og andre representanter for neorealismen, maktet Ray å skildre mennesker og livene deres med fin pensel og poetisk varsomhet. Det skjer noe magisk når vanlige, ukjente mennesker slipper til på film. Det stiller selvsagt desto større krav til regissøren, men de beste klarer det og her går det en linje fra Ray og De Sica til Dhont.
Apropos må-se-lister. Fortsatt mangler det noen titler på oversikten til Sight and Sounds topp 100 (2022). Målet for 2023 er å få sett flest mulig av følgende titler; den senegalesiske Touki Bouki (1973) regissert av Djibril Diop Mambéty, Agnès Vardas Samlerne og jeg (2000), Douglas Sirks Imitation of Life (1959), Edward Yangs A Brighter Summer Day (1991) og Yi yi: Familiedrømmer (2020), Jacques Rivettes Céline og Julie (1974), Victor Erices Bikubens ånd (1973), Jean-Luc Godards Min venn, Pierrot (1965) og Histoire(s) du cinéma (1989-1999), Fruens hemmelige timer (1953) av Max Ophüls, Robert Bressons En dødsdømt er rømt (1956) og Ousmane Sembanes Black Girl (1966) også den fra Senegal.
En film som ikke er på Sight and Sounds topp 100 er Elim Klimovs Gå og se! (1985) som etter min mening troner høyt blant de beste krigsfilmene som er laget. I et år som ble skjemmet av stadig nye brutale kriger som skånselsløst rammet sivile minner filmen oss om at sivilisasjon og utvikling ikke beskytter mot menneskelig ondskap. Årets vondeste.
Når vi først er inne på kåringer. Årest rareste film må være Werner Herzogs Også dverger begynte i det små (1970), med Dogtooth (2009) regissert av Yorgos Lanthimos på en god annenplass.
Beste hund? Ttina i Trøffeljegerne fra Piemonte (2020).
Blant dokumentarer gjorde skildringen av Sinéad O'Connor i Nothing Compares (2022) sterkt inntrykk. Jeg må innrømme at jeg hadde glemt hvilken posisjon hun hadde og hvor mye mer hun hadde å by på enn monsterhiten som filmen låner tittelen fra. Det virker som mange følte det slik, og det er trist at hun ikke fikk oppleve mer anerkjennelse mens hun fortsatt var i live. Et annet portrett av en betydelig person som jeg har vært påvirket av i mer enn 30 år er Umberto Eco: La biblioteca del mondo (2022). Regissøren Davide Ferrario presenterte selv filmen på visning i Georg Sverdrups hus på Blindern.
Apropos tankevekkere: Ecos bibliotek befinner seg i Milano, tett på palasset hvor jeg en gang for en ti års tid siden var på tur. Jeg hadde benket meg med en liten skisseblokk og satt og drodlet, totalt uvitende om at selveste professore Eco kunne stå i vinduet på sin gedigjne leilighet og skue ned på meg. Det skulle jeg bare ha visst.
Mål for 2024? Forsøke å tette igjen de siste hullene i Sight and Sounds 100 beste (før det kommer en ny kåring). I skrivende stund har jeg allerede rukket å se Touki Bouki (1973), men det er noen av titlene som har vist seg vanskelig å få tak i. Et annet mål er å bli mer kresen på seriekonsum - skal jeg nå mine andre nyttårsforsetter om å 1) bli bedre i sjakk og 2) bli bedre i italiensk, så kan jeg ikke se ferdig Walking Dead (nok er nok).

#24 Sight and Sound. Filmens dramatiske høydepunkt fikk meg til å tenke på hvordan Spike Lees film speiler drapet på George Floyd 30 år senere. I kortfilmen "3 Brothers" kopler han selv filmen og drapet på Floyd sammen. Slik beskrives det i LA Times:
“3 Brothers,” a new short film from the director, connects the killing of Radio Raheem in “Do the Right Thing” to videos of police killing George Floyd and Eric Garner. “Will history stop repeating itself?” a title card reads ahead of the clips of Floyd in 2020, Garner in 2014 and Radio Raheem, a fictional character whom police choke to death in “Do the Right Thing.
