After Daniel Craig’s departure from the role in No Time to Die, the James Bond franchise has been in search of Craig’s successor in the role. An announcement has yet to be made officially, but as you probably know, many names have been put forward over the years, including but not limited to Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland(???), a female star.
Not that long ago, we reported that Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been offered the role and that the deal was as good as done. Since then, no official statements have been made and while we are still waiting for an official confirmation, the fans have become a bit quieter than before. Until recently.

There exists an alternate cinematic realm wherein Pierce Brosnan, having concluded his run on the briefly successful NBC action-drama "Remington Steele," inherited the role of James Bond from Roger Moore and likely guided the franchise through a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape. It's possible he could've failed, but that would've been the fault of the production team led by Albert "Cubby" Broccoli. Because Brosnan was born to play Bond. Broccoli even said as much when he met the actor on the set of 1981's "For Your Eyes Only." Though I'm a huge Timothy Dalton supporter, I think versions of "The Living Daylights" and "License to Kill" tailored to Brosnan's more debonair persona would've been much bigger hits, and brought a quick resolution to the legal wrangling that hastened Dalton's departure.
Pierce Brosnan was the platonic ideal of a big-screen James Bond.
Alas, NBC boneheadedly misread the ratings uptick the due-to-be-cancelled...

The other week, author George R.R. Martin did something surprising: writing on his Not a Blog, he publicly criticized HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon, which is based on his book Fire & Blood. He dinged the show for changing things from the source material in a way that weakened the story, and warned that there were bigger, "more toxic" changes being contemplated for future seasons of the show.
Martin never did anything like this during the nine years that Game of Thrones (which is based on his book series A Song of Ice and Fire) was running on HBO, so the changes that House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal made from his book obviously upset him. We the fans had inklings that something was bothering Martin before he went public, but I certainly wasn't expecting him to be so up front about it.

Jujutsu Kaisen fans have come to learn with time that Gege Akutami is by no means a perfect writer. Flaws bask almost every corner of the series that make it just as much hated as it is loved by the fans. Throughout social media, there has been constant disarray regarding why the mangaka is good at what they do and why not at the same time.

Personal biases may make it seem that there is a lot going on within the series that is yet to be uncovered. However, upon the announcement of the series’ end, it became unfortunately clear that theorizing was more so hearsay, keeping hope afloat when there wasn’t much of it. The canonical and the popular are two very different angles of literature. That which is popular isn’t always canonical.

Steven Spielberg once revealed that he was rejected twice from helming a James Bond film. He shared that it was right after the success of his blockbuster film, Jaws. When he approached producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, he shared that Spielberg didn’t have enough experience to direct a big-budget film like James Bond.

However, Spielberg had the last laugh since he became one of the pioneer filmmakers in the industry. He has far outgrown the spy thriller franchise, which is looking to reboot the character for a modern audience after Daniel Craig retired from the role.

Don’t expect to see Jenna Ortega in Her Majesty’s Secret Service any time soon.
The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actress says that she wants to see women get their own purpose-built action roles, rather than taking over parts previously meant for men. Case in point: James Bond.
“I love that there’s a lot more female leads nowadays,” Ortega told MTV. “I think that’s so special, but we should have our own,” she said. “I don’t like it when it’s like a spinoff — I don’t want to see like ‘Jamie Bond.’ You know? I want to see another badass.”
Gregory Ratoff, who originally purchased and developed the rights to Bond in 1955, once considered a woman for the role, according to Nicholas Shakespeare’s new biography of Bond author Ian Fleming. Ratoff flirted with the idea of casting soon to be Oscar-winner Susan Hayward as Bond. That is,...

Wait, did he really just say that?
He did, and Luca Guadagnino doesn’t care. The director got candid in front of a jam-packed room of journalists Tuesday afternoon — who were lapping up every word — at the press conference of his new film Queer.
The racy movie gets its world premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival early Tuesday evening, with its stars Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville and Omar Apollo joining the Italian filmmaker to usher in his latest romp.
An American ex-pat in his mid-50s, William is isolated in Mexico City. Addicted to opiates and alcohol, and with a passion for younger men, Starkey’s Eugene Allerton sends William into a tailspin. As Craig’s character gets increasingly infatuated, Eugene agrees to go on a trip with him. It is steamy, of course — it’s Luca Guadagnino after all — and includes a couple of fairly graphic sex scenes.

Earlier this year, A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R. Martin wrote a blog post where he discussed the difficult process of adapting a book for the screen. He did not mince words in complaining about how often the stories tend to degrade in the transition. "Everywhere you look, there are more screenwriters and producers eager to take great stories and 'make them their own,'" he wrote. "It does not seem to matter whether the source material was written by Stan Lee, Charles Dickens, Ian Fleming, Roald Dahl, Ursula K. Le Guin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain, Raymond Chandler, Jane Austen, or… well, anyone. No matter how major a writer it is, no matter how great the book, there always seems to be someone on hand who thinks he can do better, eager to take the story and 'improve' on it. 'The book is the book, the film is the film,...

Ian Fleming, author of the Bond books, initially rejected Sean Connery's candidacy, doubting that the Scot could transform into an English gentleman. The author softened a bit after meeting the actor in person over lunch.
It was only after the triumphant premiere of Dr. No that the author finally abandoned his skepticism and was so impressed by Connery that he gave his character Scottish origins.
After that, the actor went on to play the iconic secret agent six more times.
1. Dr. No, 1962
The first film is called the best for a reason: it is the perfect introduction to the character, the charming spy James Bond, who has not yet become a superhero, for whom saving the world is an ordinary Tuesday. In Dr. No, Bond has no gadgets, so when he sits down at the same table with the villain, he uses only his best qualities – a developed intellect and a sharp tongue.

John McLusky’s comic strips for the Express in the 50s and 60s came to define the character, as his son explains
“You only live twice, or so it seems” – at least, that is, if you are the work of the late illustrator John McLusky, creator of the popular James Bond newspaper cartoon strips. His dynamic, almost-forgotten drawings brought a reliable touch of glamorous machismo into the lives of readers of the Daily Express between 1958 and 1966, and are now to stir again.
The Los Angeles archives devoted to the glittering history of the Oscars will display McLusky’s influential images alongside other mementoes of the film franchise, which was based on the spy novels of Ian Fleming a former British intelligence officer.

Growing up, I loved the children’s novel “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” So when the Hollywood film version came along, you’d better believe I was primed. Like the book, the movie was about a family with a father who builds a magical flying car. But any similarity ended there. The book’s tone was cool and dry and deadpan irreverent — the author, after all, was Ian Fleming of James Bond fame — but the movie was a wacked piece of ersatz-Disney musical kitsch. Fleming’s debonair absurdist saga of gangsters and hair’s-breadth escapes was replaced by a broad fairy tale featuring a kidnapper called the Child Catcher. Watching the movie, I kept wondering when the real story — the one I’d loved — would start; somehow, it never did. What happened to it? By the time the movie was over, I had suffered the 9-year-old’s once-upon-a-time equivalent of Ptsd.

House of the Dragon‘s world gets even bigger in season 2. With the Dance of the Dragons Targaryen civil war now in motion, the “Blacks” (Queen Rhaenyra I’s supporters) and the “Greens” (King Aegon II’s supporters) must enlist the other Great Houses of Westeros to their cause.
This means that many of the characters we’ve gotten to know thus far, Prince Jacaerys (Harry Collett), Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), Ser Criston (Fabian Frankel), and more, will hit the road to recruit nobles like college football coaches in need of a star quarterback.
“People have to curry favor with the other lords and figure out who’s on what team,” House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal told Den of Geek. “It’s nice because instead of just introducing 18 new characters, we follow characters who we already know going to these new places and meeting new people.”
Condal is exaggerating a bit.

Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare had a short run in theaters in the United States. It only grossed about $26 million, and never played theaters outside of the U.S. In fact, the film, which is now on 4K Blu-ray in the States never got any kind of release at all internationally. What gives?
It all has to do with how the film was financed, with Prime Video having a deal for international rights across Europe, Latin America, Anz, Canada, South Africa, India, and pan-Asian PayTV. The film is now finally set for a Prime Video release, with it premiering on July 25th, more than three months after the movie played U.S theaters. Prime Video Canada and its international subsidiaries made the unheralded announcement on Twitter (X).

Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British Sas and modern Black Ops warfare.

Birthed from the creative genius of Ian Fleming, James Bond was quick to win over the hearts of movie fanatics for 62 years, with Sean Connery first portraying the iconic British spy. However, the franchise has come a long way with 6 different actors helming the charismatic role. Out of all the stars, Daniel Craig has received immense praise for bringing something new to the table.

Craig has reprised the character for 15 years, doing 5 films, until he decided it was time to say goodbye to the franchise. Now, the franchise is looking for a new actor to don the role, where names like Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Aaron Taylor Johnson, constantly revolving around the role.
However, it looks like Leo Woodall has already beaten them to it as he showcases his acting prowess in a successful spy series by the Russo brothers.

We often see James Bond gambling in casinos in the James Bond books and movies. In the very first James Bond novel Casino Royale, published in 1953, the author Ian Fleming wrote about Bond playing baccarat against the villain Le Chiffre.
However, when the Casino Royale movie was made in 2006, the game was changed to poker instead of baccarat. They played Texas Hold’em, one of the most popular poker games in the world. So does James Bond use any special poker strategies when he plays? Let’s find out!
The First Poker Scene
In one early scene in the Casino Royale movie, we see Bond playing a small poker game in the Bahamas. By watching this scene carefully, we can see that Bond uses some basic but smart poker strategies.
For example, at one point Bond checks when he has a very strong hand, to trick the other player into betting more.

Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is heading straight to Prime Video in the UK with a July date now confirmed.
Well, it’s official. Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare won’t be heading to UK cinemas and will premiere on Prime Video at the tail end of July.
We already had a sneaking suspicion this might happen after the film premiered in US cinemas all the way back in April, with no UK release date in sight, but it’s still a tad disappointing. You can watch the film on a smaller screen from 25th July when it’ll be available on Prime Video.

Since taking over the reins of the IP from their father Albert R. Broccoli in ’95, half-siblings Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have been responsible for some of the best entries in the franchise. From sticking with Daniel Craig as 007, despite the initial backlash, to reforming the franchise’s female characters, they have been successful in translating Ian Fleming’s work into the modern day.
While the search for the next James Bond is yet to end, for their work on the IP over the past three decades, the Bond Producers are now set to be honored with the Honorary Oscars.

Secret agents going rogue is such a common trope that sometimes we wish that people like Ethan Hunt or Jason Bourne would just follow their orders for change. When Daniel Craig started playing James Bond in 2006, it seemed like Bond went rogue on nearly every single mission, including most of Quantum of Solace, at least half of Skyfall, and basically, the first two-thirds of No Time To Die. Pierce Brosnan’s Bond went rogue in Die Another Day, too, with a full beard and no shirt, declaring “I’m checking out” from a hospital. And of course, Connery’s Bond was on an unsanctioned revenge mission at the start of Diamonds Are Forever.
But the most compelling Bond-goes-rogue movie of them all to this day remains Licence to Kill, which in 1989, would become the unintended swan song from Timothy Dalton’s fierce take on the character.

James Bond: a franchise known for its complex web of deceit, high-stakes power struggles, and bitter rivalries. In a world where alliances are easily forged and broken, the players are always looking for an angle to gain the upper hand. A realm where secrets are currency and the truth is only revealed to those who hold power. A landscape marked by twists and turns, where loyalties are tested, and betrayals are commonplace.

The James Bond franchise has come a long way, with 6 different actors portraying the iconic character til now, and Daniel Craig being the latest actor to portray the role of Special Agent 007. However, many fans of the age-old spy franchise believe that Pierce Brosnan is the greatest actor ever to don the role. The Irish actor became synonymous with the role and he attracted immense love and following from the fans of the franchise.

James Bond has remained a fan-favorite franchise through the decades, surviving not only the Cold War era by preying on the ideas of Russian espionage and imminent nuclear war but also adapting to the modern world by reflecting the ways of the 21st-century spycraft through Daniel Craig’s 007. However, the IP always seemed to get one thing wrong regarding its ambitious plots – the necessity of finding relevance in the story.

But without a change in trajectory, Bond would have fallen victim to the age-old disease of mass disinterest incurred due to the repetition of a formulaic plot.
One writer, however, had an idea for a script that could have introduced a Bond film unlike any ever done before.

While Henry Cavill awaits his destiny as Agent 007 in the James Bond films, the producers are reportedly looking at changing up a different aspect of the legendary spy franchise. According to a source, producer Barbara Broccoli is looking at artists such as Bruno Mars and The Weeknd to produce the theme song of the next Bond film.
The James Bond films have always featured an original song for their grand opening credits sequences. Three of these songs have won Oscars in the past, including Adele’s ‘Skyfall’, Sam Smith’s ‘Writing’s on the Wall’, and Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s ‘No Time To Die’. The new Bond film might have a change in style due to the artists the production is eyeing.

The James Bond franchise has long been blossoming in the action genre and remains among the fan-favorite franchises. It is rich in many elements, from thrilling action sequences to innovative gadgets, that captivated audiences for decades. It is all thanks to Ian Fleming, the creator behind the iconic 007 spy, who laid the foundation of the vast saga.

Daniel Craig gained international prominence after playing the latest version of James Bond in a series of five films. His reimagination of Ian Fleming’s renowned spy was critically and commercially acclaimed by everyone. Despite achieving widespread praise for his portrayal, Craig has a major regret with his rendition of 007.

For over a decade, Roger Moore had the task of living up to everything that Sean Connery had put in place as 007. And while some will defend Moore forever, we can’t forget the clown costumes, slide whistles, gondola chases, and so much more that pushed James Bond into an uncharted level of ridiculousness. Perhaps all of this could have been prevented had Timothy Dalton not been so green, turning down On Her Majesty’s Secret Service because he was in his mid-20s. That’s all hypothetical, of course, but Timothy Dalton would go on to reinvent James Bond in a way that may not have sat with contemporary audiences but marked a true challenge for what it meant to carry the torch. Dalton played 007 just twice; and with that, we’d challenge you to name just as many worthwhile post-Bond movies from the underappreciated actor (who we’re...

George R.R. Martin, whose “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels were very successfully turned into HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” does not like how nearly all literary adaptations come out on screen.
Hollywood has “gotten worse” when it comes to honoring source material, Martin said.
“Everywhere you look, there are more screenwriters and producers eager to take great stories and ‘make them their own,'” Martin wrote in a blog post. “It does not seem to matter whether the source material was written by Stan Lee, Charles Dickens, Ian Fleming, Roald Dahl, Ursula K. Le Guin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain, Raymond Chandler, Jane Austen, or… well, anyone. No matter how major a writer it is, no matter how great the book, there always seems to be someone on hand who thinks he can do better, eager to take the story and ‘improve’ on it.”

After the catastrophe of Die Another Day, the James Bond franchise desperately needed a fresh start. What made the failure of the Pierce Brosnan film so fascinating was how by the book it was. It followed every single thing that worked in the franchise and created a compilation film. Since this approach did not work, the creators had to get quite creative when they were making Casino Royale.

The film was a masterpiece in every way, and the biggest reason for this was its ability to take risks. The popular Game of Thrones franchise is one of the best-known and most popular adaptations in history. But it is just a drop of water in a vast ocean of adaptations that have been present since the earliest days of cinema. Now, for years, people have been debating whether adaptations are good or not, whether they can properly present a work or not, or whether they can elevate it. While most people will agree that an adaptation cannot be as good as the original, there are examples where an adaptation elevated the original work, like in the case of Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs, where the movie remains far superior to the novel.
Author George R.R. Martin, the author of Game of Thrones, has recently provided his own opinion on the matter and has aligned himself with those who think that adaptations don’t really do much for the works in question.

George R.R. Martin has been very critical of unfaithful adaptations of literature over the years, and in a recent blog post, the revered author once again vented his frustrations towards this practice. The Fire & Blood author slammed screenwriters and producers for being eager to make the stories their own by straying away from the original without improving upon them.
But despite his reasonable pushback towards this industry practice, Martin once again found himself in the crosshairs of fan outrage following the delay in his The Winds of Winter.

George R.R. Martin is calling out film and TV adaptations of books that don’t live up to their source material.
In a new blog post, the author recalls a panel with Neil Gaiman, the creator of the comic book series Sandman, which Netflix adapted into a series. The big-screen adaptations of Ian Fleming’s James Bond have never really been known for being faithful to their source material. Apart from some initial releases, such as On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Thunderball, most films haven’t gone past the title of the books when it comes to borrowing material for the silver screen.
As a result, after rumors emerged claiming that Christopher Nolan was in talks to make a faithful adaptation of Fleming’s work, fans were elated. But as the story goes, these claims turned out to be false. However, had Quentin Tarantino got the ball running for his version of Casino Royale, fans would’ve witnessed a pretty truthful adaptation of the author’s first Bond novel.

The role of James Bond has played an instrumental part in Pierce Brosnan’s career. Although different people will have different picks, when it comes to picking their favorite James Bond, at least we can agree that all the 007 actors over the years have been ridiculously handsome. But initially, in Daniel Craig’s case, he wasn’t seen as attractive enough for the part of James Bond.
While this statement might appear ridiculous at first glance, as Craig isn’t only handsome but also the best Bond since Sean Connery, Martin Campbell had some genuine reason behind his hesitancy. Even though the director had no problem with the actor and was always his first choice, for a moment, he was worried because Craig didn’t fit the mold for a traditional-looking Bond.

James Bond is arguably one of the most popular characters across fictional media, especially due to his reverence among cinema lovers. The Bond franchise started in earnest with Sean Connery’s first film as the British super spy, Dr. No, which was released in 1962.
Sean Connery became the face of the James Bond character during the 60s and 70s.
The film established several facets of the character and staples of the franchise that remain popular even today. Therefore, it is hard to imagine the character being approached differently. However, in an interview, author Ian Fleming, who created the character, revealed his initial approach to James Bond, which would have changed Sean Connery’s classic movie and the franchise as a whole.

Guy Ritchie has directed everything from low-budget hits like the crime caper "Snatch" to the $1 billion monster hit that was 2019's live-action "Aladdin" remake. But the director has also been behind some pretty big misfires, most notably 2017's "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword." Ritchie has been on a tear lately though, releasing three movies in theaters over the last 13 months. Unfortunately for the filmmaker and all involved, every single one of those movies has disappointed -- if not outright flopped -- at the box office.

In Jay Roach's 1997 James Bond spoof "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," the film's villain, Dr. Evil (Mike Myers), aims to murder off his arch-nemesis by dropping him into a tank full of man-eating sharks. In a supervillainous twist, the sharks will be equipped with laser beams affixed to their heads. Dr. Evil says he likes his pets to have a well-cooked meal before eating. He then cackles maniacally. A lieutenant of his, however, informs Dr. Evil that buying sharks equipped with lasers is immensely difficult and that the tank is, instead, filled with flesh-eating sea bass. Dr. Evil isn't thrilled. "You know, I have one simple request," Dr. Evil says, "and that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!"
One cannot say if there's a direct connection to the above scene and a James Bond movie that Sean Connery once wrote, but there are a few uncanny similarities.

Ungentlemanly Warfare, the first of González’s three Guy Ritchie movies to hit theaters, is loosely based on the recently declassified Operation Postmaster, chronicling Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (Soe) and their covert mission to neutralize Nazi Germany’s U-boats during World War II. The efforts of these unauthorized commandos and spies helped change the course of the war, allowing the United States to then join the European Theater of Operations in 1942.
In the action-thriller, González plays Marjorie Stewart, a talented soldier-spy who’s equally gifted as a performer. Together with Babs Olusanmokun’s Heron, Stewart set up shop at the Nazi-frequented island of Fernando Po, where they communicated the Nazis’ latest comings and goings to their fellow Soe personnel, including a group of commandos that...

Henry Cavill is one of the most beloved Hollywood stars around at present. The Man of Steel actor has managed to win hearts with his acting chops just as much as he has with his charming personality. Moreover, he has become an idol of sorts to young boys, not just with his choice of roles, but with his actions too.
Cavill is a gentleman through and through, something that has been quite apparent since he broke out in the industry. He had a slip-up during the #MeToo movement, but other than that one instance, the British actor has been very respectful of everyone. Moreover, Guy Ritchie just confirmed what many have always felt about him: Cavill is chivalrous.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare."
With the sole exception of Zack Snyder, there might not be a director currently working who is more fascinated by telling stories about tough guys committing violent acts while barely breaking a sweat more than Guy Ritchie. From his earliest works like "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" all the way to "The Gentlemen", "The Covenant," and "Wrath of Man," the British filmmaker has been all too happy to stay in his lane and pump out his unique brand of action movie year in and year out. This week's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," however, might as well be the poster child for Ritchie's overriding obsession.
The World War II-set film is based on a real-life historical event, which lends an even greater novelty factor to his depiction of Major Gus March-Phillipps (Henry Cavill), Anders Lassen (Alan Ritchson...
