Man walks into a bar… It’s the stuff dreams are made of. An unknown musician was plucked from obscurity Friday night to perform in front of a huge crowd and ended up stealing the show.
At pop band Take That’s gig in Glasgow, Scotland on Friday night, their scheduled warm-up act was established chart-topper Olly Murs, but he got stuck in London after his flight was cancelled.
Meanwhile in Glasgow, singer and guitarist Daniel Rooney was performing in the bar of the hotel across the road fron the venue, where he was spotted by entertainment journalist Ross King. The Daily Mail reports that, when King heard of Murs’s absence, he was quick to recommend Rooney be enlisted as his replacement – with just 30 minutes’ notice.
@TheRossKing epic!!! Well done you and Daniel Rooney for stepping in. Certainly didn’t expect to see you singing to a @takethat crowd...

The Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar will star in Gurinder Chadha’s next film, Christmas Karma. It’s due out this December.
News has emerged about Gurinder Chadha’s next project, confirmed to be an adaptation of A Christmas Carol.
Titled Christmas Karma, the film will star Kunal Nayyar as Scrooge. He’ll be joined by an ensemble cast that includes Eva Longoria, Boy George, Billy Porter, Hugh Bonneville, Leo Suter, Charithra Chandran, Pixie Lott, Danny Dyer, Bilal Hasna, Allan Corduner, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Rufus Jones, Eve, and Nitin Ganatra.
We can’t say we expected to see Danny Dyer, Boy George and Billy Porter in the same film, but there we are. We also reported earlier this year that the film’s Scrooge would be an “Indian Tory who hates refugees”.
Christmas Karma will also be a Bollywood-style musical; Gary Barlow is in charge of music alongside Shaznay Lewis and Nitin Sawhney.

Apple Original Films announced today that Matthew Vaughn’s action comedy romance feature film Argylle will make its global streaming debut on Apple TV+ beginning Friday, April 12.
Released in theaters on February 2, 2024, the film was rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violence, action, and some strong language. The film grossed $95.3 million at the worldwide box office, with $45.2 million coming from North American theaters and $50.1 million from international markets.
In anticipation of Argylle‘s streaming debut, K-pop superstars The Boyz have reimagined “Electric Energy,” the Ariana DeBose-led hit from Argylle. The soundtrack and today’s single release of “Electric Energy (Reimagination)” by The Boyz are available on all music streaming platforms.
Originally written by Gary Barlow, Stuart Price, Matthew Vaughn, and Lorne Balfefor for Matthew Vaughn’s razor-witted, reality-bending spy thriller, the song undergoes a remarkable transformation as produced by Stuart Price in collaboration with Lorne Balfe for Platoon.

If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted spy adventure with plenty of twists and turns that will make your head spin, Argylle is set to make its streaming debut later this month. Although director Matthew Vaughn has plans for sequels, he stated that he wanted to wait and see how the first film fared. Unfortunately for Vaughn, it wouldn’t become a success at the box office, earning just $92 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million. After its low performance, the star-studded action comedy will hope to find a second life as it premieres on AppleTV+ on Friday, April 12.
The plot synopsis from Apple reads,
“Elly Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, is the reclusive cat loving author of a series of bestselling espionage novels about the impossibly glamorous secret agent Argylle (Henry Cavill) on a mission to unravel a nefarious spy syndicate. When Elly, with the help...

Ariana DeBose, Boy George and Nile Rodgers have teamed up for “Electric Energy,” the disco-infused bop featured in Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle.”
Rodgers, who produced the track which plays over the film’s end credits, says he got a call from Vaughn asking if he wanted to be involved. Speaking with Variety over Zoom, the musician said although Vaughn sent him a demo track he still asked to see the film. “I have to see the film and have real context because I didn’t want to play blindly.” After seeing the film, his response was, “I was so overly sold. It was fun. I’m totally down.”
DeBose shot the film during the pandemic. “Before the big change,” she says referring to her 2022 awards season sweep as best supporting actress for her role in “West Side Story.” “We made the movie, and I had a wonderful time, and then I won the Oscar.

Exclusive: Matthew Vaughn reveals that last year he received what he terms “flattering” offers to sell Marv Films, the production company behind productions that include the Kick-Ass and Kingsman franchises and the Apple Original Films romance spy-thriller Argylle. That film is having its world premiere today in London, ahead of its February 2 U.S. theatrical release through Universal.
Marv is owned and controlled by Vaughn and Claudia Schiffer, his wife of 23 years. At the time, he says, “everyone was buying everything, and it was all very flattering and tempting.”
Vaughn admits he that nearly entered into a deal to sell, but his biggest mentor — whom he won’t name — cautioned him, saying, ”There’s no money in the world which would make it worthwhile for you having a boss.”
Vaughn shot back, “What do you mean?” And his friend went, ”Trust me, it will be a f*cking disaster.”

Here we have a documentary, about four hours long and centered on one man, where we don’t see anyone other than the man himself as the narrator. The Robbie Williams docuseries on Netflix, titled after the very man, makes the creative choice of dissecting the man rather than telling the story in a straightforward manner. It is a unique approach, for sure, but does it really work? Let’s find out.
Lying on his bed in his sprawling LA mansion, Robbie Williams takes us down memory lane through thirty years of documented footage. The tool is a basic-looking laptop. He plays and pauses the video while candidly talking about all the highs and lows of his life. Williams describes himself as a loner who is always in bed when he is not performing on stage.

The former member of UK hit-makers Take That turned solo superstar will release his four-part documentary series on Netflix in a fortnight, examining his rollercoaster ride of fame and outstanding commercial success, punctuated by bouts of depression and other illnesses.

As the English summer settles into its brief annual pomp, so too arrives Greatest Days, the “official Take That musical”, adapted by Tim Frith from his own play and directed with a steady hand by Coky Giedroyc, and as wholesome, heady summer parties go you could do far worse. What could have been a jukebox retreade of some pop fluff here becomes a vibrant celebration of fandom’s sheer emotional transport. It’s very funny, very British, a little weird and extremely satisfying.
Aisling Bea is great as Rachel, a forty-something nurse who wins a golden ticket of sorts: a chance to see her teenage obsession, a nameless boyband, perform live in Athens. It sets in motion a reconnection with her old friends and themes, long since gone their separate ways since their time as screaming fans fantasising about life outside the seaside town of Clitheroe and living vicariously through some proper pop bangers.

Katy Perry, Take That, Andrea Bocelli, and Lionel Richie are the headline names announced as the first stars set to appear at King Charles III’s coronation concert, taking place the day after his installment.

Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings, and classical-soul composer-producer Alexis Ffrench will also be performing at the celebration.

Singer Robbie Williams said that he can see a lot of similarities between himself and Harry Styles when it comes to their careers as he opens up about the ‘lonely’ side of fame. Just like Styles, the singer, 48, found fame after joining a boy band before breaking off to launch his own solo career with his debut album ‘Life Thru A Lens’, reports mirror.co.uk.
Speaking to friend and presenter Scott Mills in celebration of the album, which features the hit ‘Angels’, Williams was told by Mills, 49, that he sees similarities between the two performers.
Williams replied: “Absolutely. I see a lot. This is inconsequential but the algorithm on my YouTube threw up a video of Harry Styles talking in between songs and what he was talking about was a bit of nonsense, like I talk about, just a bit of banter.”
“It was like, I see what he’s doing.

Robbie Williams has opened up about his decision to leave Take That, calling the situation at the time a “burning building” from which he had to escape.
The singer first made his name as one-fifth of the Nineties boyband, alongside Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange.
After joining the band at age 16 in 1990, Williams quickly became a fan favourite and provided lead vocals for some of Take That’s earliest hits, including “Could It Be Magic?” (1992).
He left the band in July 1995, a decision which sparked much media attention and fan upset. Take That disbanded in February 1996, before reuniting as a quartet, without Williams, in 2005. Williams, meanwhile, went on to become a successful solo artist.
A new programme for BBC Sounds, titled Robbie Williams: My Life Thru a Lens, sees the recording artist taking a retrospective look at his career on the 25th anniversary of his first solo album.

Lee Mack poked fun at Prince Edward during his opening monologue at the Royal Variety Performance.
The stand-up comic hosted the annual celebration at the Royal Albert Hall, which was broadcast on Tuesday (20 December) and attended by the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
In his opening speech, Mack welcomed the audience to the show, before addressing Edward, who is the youngest of Queen Elizabeth II’s children.
“I’ve got three kids,” he told the audience. “The youngest is the naughtiest. It’s always the youngest that’s the trickiest, isn’t it?
“No disrespect,” he added, while the camera cut to a laughing Edward and wife Sophie Windsor.
“There goes the knighthood,” Mack added. “Wouldn’t work for me, anyway. Sir Lee – just sounds like I’m in a bad mood.”
The 2022 Royal Variety Performance is the first to be held since the death of the Queen in September.

TV host Rylan has suggested he was mistreated behind the scenes on The X Factor.
The TV star appeared as a contestant on the ninth series of the ITV talent show in 2012, during which he defeated the odds to finish fifth.
He started out being considered that year’s “joke” contestant, but overcame jibes from judge Gary Barlow to finish fifth in the quarter-final. That year’s series was won by James Arthur.
In recent years, some ex-contestants on the series, which was oficially cancelled by ITV in 2021 after 17 years on air, have claimed they were mistreated by producers when the cameras weren’t rolling.
These allegations will be explored in a new documentary, which is set to be broadcast in 2023.
In a new interview with The Independent, Rylan alleges that “there was one massive incident” he went through during his time on the series.

The year had barely started when the tabloids came for Rylan. Back in January, a video of the presenter on a night out in Soho, filmed by an anonymous person, was posted online. In the clip, the unknown figure is seen laughing with Rylan who, with a megawatt grin on his face, declares with gleeful abandon: “Give me the gear!” As far as the tabloids were concerned, they’d got the goods. “Rylan Clark caught demanding drugs,” one headline read. Another called him “troubled”. But what they failed to understand was that the TV star was – shock horror! – making a joke.
“It was a drug dealer outside Freedom,” says the 33-year-old TV and radio host, with a hint of frustration in his voice. “He’s filming and comes and puts his arm around me, so I’ve joked, ‘Come on then, get the gear out.’ If I was doing a line off someone’s chest,...

Robbie Williams has opened up about the forthcoming biopic Better Man.
The former Take That singer will star as himself in the film, which is due to be released next year.
Directed by The Greatest Showman’s Michael Gracey, Better Man will also feature fictionalised depictions of his Take That bandmates Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Jason Orange.
According to Williams, a Take That reunion is very much on the cards, but it may depend on how his former bandmates react to the biopic.
Speaking to The Times, he said: “How [the band] receive it will have a lot to do with what happens next. If this film was my life from 2010 to 2022, it would be a love letter to Gary Barlow. But I speak in the film how I thought when I was 16, 17, 18.

Royal fans are remembering Queen Elizabeth II’s musical taste following her death at 96.
Tributes have been pouring in from around the world after Her Majesty passed away in Balmoral on Thursday.
The days after her death have seen well-wishers look at some of the things in life that brought her great joy - and music was among them.
The Queen was a big musical theatre fan and, perhaps surprisingly, she even enjoyed some Gary Barlow.
In 2016, the Queen’s cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson said that the monarch was “a fantastic dancer” with “great rhythm”.
Speaking on BBC Radio documentary Our Queen: 90 Musical Years, she explained: “The Queen loves the theatre and musicals like Showboat, Oklahoma! and Annie Get Your Gun.

Veteran producer and reality TV judge Simon Cowell suffered a bike accident last week and was hospitalized, claim multiple U.K. media reports that emerged on Tuesday night.
The “America’s Got Talent” judge had the accident near his London home last Thursday, was hospitalized and then released, the reports claim.
“Simon was on the e-bike with his electric motor on, when the bike slipped on a wet patch,” a source close to Cowell told U.K. tabloid The Mirror. “He went flying over the handlebars into the middle of the road and is lucky to be alive as he wasn’t wearing a helmet. There was blood pouring from his face but luckily he managed to get some help from passers-by. He was taken to hospital and X-rays showed he broke his arm. He has his arm in a yellow cast and is on the mend now but will need to rest.
